Much needed addition to the Marin dining scene! I came with a group of girlfriends the other night and we sat at their one big table in the back. It was in a little niche and can be curtained off, so it was perhaps a little quieter. We shared the crab cakes, burrata and ahi tuna for appetizers. All were good. I had the salmon for my entree and my friends had the mahi mahi special and the burger. My salmon was perfectly cooked and SO flavorful. Nice wine by the glass selection and lovely cocktails. For dessert, we shared the chocolate cake and banana cake - both served with ice cream, both decent but nothing to write home about. Love that they have parking. It was packed when I arrive and packed when I left so make reservations - I hope this place thrives in the years to come! read more

We were in the area for work and hadn't been thrilled with the restaurants we'd visited. We took a chance on Guesthouse after seeing their review on YELP- MAGIC! We didn't have reservations so we sat at the community table and met the nicest people! The cocktails were incredible and everything we ordered to eat was delicious. People around us ordered food and we actually started to share with the others! Where does that happen? It just goes to show that in a restaurant where the standards are HIGH and the people appreciate the incredible food, people come together to celebrate the sharing of magical food and drink! Wow! I am so impressed with the take out quality of Guesthouse. It's been disappointing during this pandemic that many places fall short, especially the places I absolutely love. Guesthouse's food was warm, fresh, and not soggy because they thoughtfully separated all sauces. Their food is absolutely high quality and delish! The service was also on point, making my long work week end on a high note. I recommend the pumpkin bisque, Caesar salad, gnocchi, and strip steak. I highly recommend supporting them to ensure they survive post COVID. We need great places like Guesthouse in Marin. read more

We loved it! Sat at the bar during what we thought was happy hour from 4-5, but they are still working on it...no problem! All of the staff was super friendly. Presentation was gorgeous, food was delicious, and I loved my cocktails. We got the crab cakes, hamachi crudo, the pork chop and the bucatini, and would order them all again. We had a great experience at Guesthouse. Kentfield is so in need of a fine dining restaurant for a good date night or time with friends. Overall it was pretty good food the fried chicken for Sunday was very crispy and tender inside but the cioppino was lacking clams and I wasn't informed that they were out. The Aji tartare was amazing and the crab bisque was as well. The Toffee cake was surprisingly dry and not gooey as expected but she quickly removed it from the bill once notified. Fantastic after-work cocktail spot! Came here with a friend on Friday around 6pm. The place was packed but there was luckily some room at the bar. They had some really fun cocktails to pick from, and some delicious food to accompany the drinks. We loved the mushroom appetizer. The burrata was great (as it usually is). We got a nicely sized portion of the short rib pasta. I will be back for more cocktails here for sure. read more

Ambiance is pretty nice. But food is far over priced for quantity. And the service was painfully slow. Took over 25 minutes to get our drinks. (Two of which were glasses of wine). If you've got a fat wallet with a decent amount of money to blow. This is your spot. But if you're looking for a great quality meal, with great service, and for a great price. I'd called seeing online that the place was booked. Spent 10 minutes on the phone with Dustin one of the owners. Couldn't have been nicer, more informative and as accommodating as he could be. From the jump it's apparent why they're doing so well and for certain, will continue to. Had the requisite-get there early-Sunday fried chicken. Crackly skin with no overpowering spices, a hint of sweetness and luscious juicy chicken beneath. 3 large pieces accompanied by silky mash and green beans with a hit of bbq sauce. I ate the chicken with my hands. Kid you not. I've had lots prior-even Mr. Keller's; this is top three. Halibut with a nice char that still left the meat juicy and an appetizer of smokey roasted maitake mushrooms with a small smear of two perfect sauces. Moist spiced Banana cake with sliced bananas that have a creme brûlée crackling caramelization on top. Lava cake with ice cream. Dustin, the owner, was everywhere. Nice to see this kind of lovely. Wow , what a great addition to the Marin restaurant scene. We had a great meal last night! Everything was fabulous from the appetizers , salads , main course and the deserts which we tried three of them. The service was superb! Our waitress was on her game throughout our 2 hour 30 minute dinner. She was very helpful with us making our selections and seemed well versed with the entire menu. I highly recommend The Guesthouse. You won't be disappointed . The only negative is it gets very loud. They are aware of the problem and are making changes in the acoustics by adding acoustical panels in the ceiling read more

Six of us had dinner here Friday night. We were seated promptly at our reservation time, the restaurant was packed. The food was clean tasting and not over seasoned. Service was quick and attentive. Our appetizers were arancini, lobster roll, crab cakes, andwood grilled maitake mushroom. We had pastas, the filet,and ratatouille napoleon. We shared desserts which were chocolate cake, key lime tart, and spiced banana cake. The menu is varied and everything was great. This is another winner for Jared and his staff read more

Pros: tomato bisque is great , however the server said it did not have cream in it, and it very much did! (Not a complaint since I love a creamy bisque but as a server they should not mislead the customers) Caesar salad was good too. Cons: I got the New York strip 10 oz steak and ordered it medium rare. It was burnt, overcooked, and tough. They drenched the steak and potatoes in a sweet mayonnaise sauce- too saucey! My partner got the salmon dish, and same saucey situation. We worked hard to eat the food, really wanted to leave it on the plate. Tried the strawberry shortcake - was expecting the classic sponge /angel cake , but it's really a big old hard biscuit. Then they slather a strawberry SAUCE and whipped cream inbetween. Couldn't have more than a nibble. Really disappointed with the food, but adding 1 star for the entertainment!... The guests dining next to us got into a stare down tiff! A man and his wife were finishing their meal when the husband started sneezing. The blonde girl sitting across from them, who mentioned she eats there frequently, at least once a month, is going through a divorce, and has an asian friend that is also going through a custody case, made some nasty comments under her breath about the mans sneezes, when the wife addressed her and said " he has allergies! Don't worry!" to which the blondie replied sarcastically, "oh no, I have allergies too, but at least I know how to wear a mask! You know, above the nose! Because of covid? *shrugs to friend" the wife's jaw dropped and from that point on it was a nasty stare down for the next 30 minutes. The servers were oblivious to the tension we all felt it in that dining tent/parking lot. I guess what the restaurant can take away from this is to inform and enforce your covid dining guidelines prior to taking reservations. I can see why the blondie was scared since she was in the vapor spray zone of those sneezes. but man, so awkward, so rich, best moment of my night! read more

The restaurant has built a lot of outdoor dining that is protected from the wind. There may be more seats here than in the building that houses the restaurant. As a result of this we experienced extremely slow service when both the indoor and outdoor tables were filled. They have a number of appealing appetizers and desserts on the menu. However their specialty regarding meat entrees is to smoke them. I find their meat entrees to be overly smoked and not appealing. I would not recommend any of these. When combined with their slow service, over an hour between appetizers and entrées, we will not come back. It's a shame because we live a short walk away from the restaurant. read more

This was a fantastic meal! Starting with crab cakes, then splitting a caesar salad. I had the spaghetti cacio e pepe and my husband had the short ribs. Delicious. We were seated at a communal table, and the environment was both inviting and private somehow at the same time. We topped it off with key lime tart for dessert and this meal was such a treat. We will definitely be back. Our waiter, Thadeus, was a pleasure and wrapped the whole experience up perfectly. Highly recommend!! read more

Why don't I come up to Marin more often?! I loved Guesthouse from the moment I walked through the door. Nice vibe, comfortable and inviting. Perfect for a date night or to grab a drink with friends (or a few, there are so many great cocktails on their menu!). My partner and I visited for the first time last weekend. I had the Truffle Agnolotti and he had the Salmon with Succotash. They were both so good and the Salmon was cooked perfectly. We were fortunate enough to have Allan as our server. He was just the right amount of attentive, funny, and did a great job helping us pick out the perfect wine to go with our dinner. Totally worth the trip up from SF! read more

Just returned home from a lovely meal at Guesthouse in Kentfield, located in the former Ambrosia space next to Half Day Cafe. Ambrosia was a special place that could never be replaced but I am happy to see a new beginning in our neighborhood. The food and drinks were exceptional as well as the service. My favorite takeaway from the evening was the warm welcome we received when we walked through the front door. There was never the feeling you usually expect to experience from a newly open restaurant still trying to work out the kinks. We were lucky to get reservations last evening. The place was packed. Have to say, it's been a long time coming, but well worth the wait. Great neighborhood restaurant; fancy, but not too fancy; noisy, but not too noisy; excellent service, generous portions, beautifully and I mean BEAUTIFULLY plated and delicious. We had the quail and the swordfish. Both were excellent choices. For an appetizer, we had the ahi tar tar...excellent choice! We wish we would have had room for dessert! It's been a long time waiting for a trendy new dinner spot in Kentfield with DELICIOUS food. My friend and I showed up for an early dinner (5pm) so we didn't experience much of a noise issue that I've been reading about, but as 2 gals under 30 who dine in SF often, noise isn't a big deal. Cocktails were good, the food was GREAT. We shared the crab cakes, kale salad, shrimp bucatini and the flourless chocolate cake. The crab cakes were my favorite ...I can't wait to come back and try the lobster rolls & quail. Our server was super sweet and attentive even on a busy Saturday night, the hostess / manager maybe ? Could have been a little warmer to us when we got there and when we were leaving... that was the only thing that left a sour taste in my mouth.
