We have been to this steakhouse a number of times over the years before COVID. Prior visits were always a 5 star rating, and often a highlight of our trips, but, boy oh boy they have gone downhill. We have ordered the ribeye which used to be a huge tomahawk on the bone, cooked for two, and it was always terrific, excellent flavors, perfectly cooked, presented whole after cooking, then sliced and returned to the table, just fantastic. Last night we ordered the ($48) ribeye to share, and it came to the table on one dinner plate, the steak was thin, about 1/2 inch thick, no bone (!!), and was full of fat!!!! Lying on top of a small serving of potatoes. Wow, it was super disappointing. Your basic Hannaford's Supermarket ribeye is multiple levels above the steak that they served. We asked the server about the bone-in ribeye and she said they don't serve it with a bone anymore, and they won't slice it because of COVID (but, slicing steak seemingly has nothing to do with COVID safety). Another server brought us an extra plate and walked away, not great service either, although our regular server was trying. Had to use the bread plate for our second plate. I know COVID hammered the restaurant industry, but the servers seemed rather clueless about steaks, not what you typically expect in a steakhouse, where training waitstaff is important, as much as attention to details. I rarely leave reviews but our meal at the Guild Tavern was too exceptional not to. My group of 3 split the poutine, which was PHENOMENAL. I've had my share of poutine but this was the best I've ever tasted. The fries were crispy down to the last gravy soaked bite. We each ordered the filet with different accoutrements and sides. I chose the bearnaise sauce and whipped potatoes. I can't really put into words how amazing my steak was. The meat was cooked perfectly and the sear... my god the sear. There was literally an audible moan from everyone at my table after every single bite. Even the fresh baked bread and butter was outstanding. We were stuffed so we ordered dessert to go. My family members got the maple cheesecake. I opted for the chocolate torte with bourbon caramel sauce. Again, exceptional. Our waitress was wonderful. I think her name was Lilly. She was so pleasant and went out of her way to make our dining experience just as great as the food. We don't live locally but I honestly would consider making the 2.5 hour trek just to go to the Guild again. It was definitely expensive and probably not a regular dining experience for most people/budgets but as a special treat, this is the place to be. We will definitely be back. read more

Dinner was *exceptional*. I enjoyed my new 'best meal I've ever had' from start to finish. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere was perfection, seriously there was nothing about our experience at Guild & Co. that wasn't outstanding. My menu for the evening: steak tartare of which I sadly did not get a picture because it looked so amazing we had to dive right in and it was SO good it made me giggle with the first bite, fresh, warm and crusty bread with fresh-made whipped butter, a properly made Caesar salad for two, a 30 oz. in-house aged, locally raised, table-side carved rib-eye for two served with a side of potato and leek gratin, a proper cup of espresso and finally and toe clenching good carrot cake made by the in-house pastry chef. For a special anniversary dinner, we ordered the sirloin steak for two, a hefty price of $80. The steak was tough, and hard to chew. It came cooked to our liking however. The menu indicated an all inclusive, 2 salads, 2 sides, and 2 sauces. We were charged inadvertently for the salads, at 8.95 apiece. The server was very attentive and the restaurant provided champagne, not because of the steak or the error, but because it was our anniversary, a nice touch. All in all, we thought it was overpriced and we most likely will not go again. read more

We had a wonderful dining experience here after a long run in a marathon. My burger was perfectly seasoned and juicy. I loved the onion rings were crisp and juicy. Feeling disappointed with the Guild last few visits To include last night - Our first visit a few years ago the meal service was excellent- However I feel the quality of the meat has gone down, our steak last night we're okay, paying 45.00 for a steak and Cesar salad (very nice Cesar) it better be fantastic. Sorry folks, I am more than happy to pay the price of a great meal and service- The Guild is no longer worth of 100.00 plus per person. I will have to rethink going back any time soon. read more

Have been to Guild pre COVID and it was my go to great steakhouse for myself and family and friends that visited....that being said whatever they became post COVID is an overpriced shell of what it once was. First the steaks they use to be huge dry aged cuts of hand selected meat now they are thin fatty and taste like something you can buy at Hanaford. No more dry aged steaks wine list is about 10 bottles long and nothing extraordinary. Appetizers were ok but again nothing to write on. The staff was a huge change as their service use to be excellent our waiter didn't know how to properly open a bottle of wine dripped on the table after pouring, didn't know what a dry aged steak was and didn't know anything about the dishes or their origin. I just don't know what happened it's sad because it was so good. They should have just closed and reopened under a name other than Guild. I expect more from the Farmhouse group and this is absolutely a disappointment read more

The Service was good which is hard to find in Chittenden county, and often not the case at the Guild. In fact, in the past, I have had to suggest to the bar staff and waitstaff that they periodically make eye contact with me in the event I may need something. That just seems absurd to have to regularly suggest that to staff. Who trains these guys?? Bar staff at the Guild, (and other local restaurants )regularly don't greet you when you come in. They don't even look up when they are 2 feet away. I have had the same experience at the groups Mexican location, El Cortijos (?) Maybe it's "a thing." Michelle, a new bartender, is a refreshing addition to an otherwise seemingly disinterested team. Great new spring drinks menu, although a little weird- which is okay. Poutine rivals the best in the area. Steak Tartare is inspired. Great setting and atmosphere. The $17.00 burger was small, offered one slice of bacon, and made me wonder if the Farmhouse group was having trouble paying the bills. It was more of a slider on a big bun. The Steak Salad was good, but I think it cost $32.00. It was steak and lettuce, not a lot else. The Guild is great for Apres-work, ski, film, show, As for Dinner, If you want atmosphere, and aren't really hungry, and/or have a lot of excess money weighing you down, go to the Guild, If you want FAR less atmosphere, but delicious well priced food, try the Wooden Spoon about 1/2 mile away. read more

First review when I went to the Guild I gave them two stars, I think they were new and maybe still trying to figure things out. The manager contacted me and offered to make things right the next time we visited. Here is what happened the first time: We went for dinner this weekend and had a few issues with the service and with food, service was lacking A LOT(ordered items never received but put on bill, water poured in seltzer, never asked to get another glass of wine, list goes on) and my steak wasn't cooked well. We talked to the manager on the way out and he gave us his business card, told us to call him next time we go back and he will try and make sure we have a good time. Honestly, that isn't the best solution to getting people to come back after a bad experience. I almost feel like I went on a bad date and the guy said "call me to go out again and I will make it better next time" I have heard some good reviews from some and bad reviews from others...to bad it didn't work out for us. Not by choice I went back about a year later, I never told them about my past experience because I was worried they would do everything to make it right and I just wanted to see for myself if they had changed... the restaurant is much better now, better staff, more options on the menu, and for the most part great service. The decor is simple, but well done, and the smell of the wood burning in the grill smells really good aa you walk in the door. I dined the the Guild Tavern with some work colleagues, and hat s pretty good meal. We started our meal with a cheese plate, which of course you need to do when you're in Vermont. The cheese was very good, and along with some olives that we ordered, it almost filled me up. We had a blue cheese, a soft cheese which was probably a Brie, and a hard nutty cheese that tasted like a manchego, which I thought was the best one. We ate the cheese with wine, martinis, and beers. The had a great beverage list, so everyone can order what they want. The craft beer list was pretty good, and Burlington has a pretty good craft beer scene, and I tried s couple. For my entree, I had a sirloin which was one of the dinner specials and it was perfectly cooked at medium rare, and had a subtle smoke flavor from the wood grill. It also came with some roasted potatoes that had a nice crunchy exterior. It was a Tuesday night, so it was a little subdued, I think maybe the Guild could use a little more atmosphere. This is the first time that I have been compelled to write a review about a restaurant. I live here locally and have been here in BTV for about 12 years. I have been to Guild twice since they opened and I will not be returning. Principally, I think the cost is beyond logical explanation. When my wife and I went the first time, we decided to splurge and order the $80 steak for two (which I noticed has now risen in cost on their menu to $88). I guess all I can say is that I do not care how amazing the quality of any steak is, but I am not exaggerating here...each of our portions amounted to four slices of steak fanned out over a smear of mash potatoes. So, of course, before I took even one bite, I was already frustrated and had calculated in my head that each slice was $10! Sorry that's just the way my mind works. The quality of the steak was just ok. It was fine. Really nothing special. The sides were extremely small as well and less than memorable. The other thing I will mention is that this place prides itself on sourcing their meats locally and being a unique approach to the fairly well-played out concept of farm to table here in Vermont. When I heard this, I was expecting something totally new, new sources of local meat, something spectacular. Well, all of their beef comes from LaPlatte River Farm in Shelburne, which, yes, is local, but is also the same farm that dozens of local restos source their beef from. Nothing really unique, actually fairly common. So, I was really unimpressed with this. Add to these frustrations that the restaurant is located out near the airport, far from downtown, in a former Hooters location and in one of Burlington's only urban sprawl strips...well I really think two stars here are generous. This place had everything. From the fabulous waitress, to easy parking, to the absolutely delicious meal (locally sourced). The staff kindly catered to all my allergies. The food was fresh and served in a timely manner. The bathrooms and the place were extremely clean and they cook the food right in front of you. My husband had the special burger and poutine. I'm going to start by saying I'm not a big fan of steak. But this place could convert me into a steak lover. We ordered a believe what was called "a taste of the Guild" for two. The salad was also amazing. The sherry dressing had a great flavor and the salad also had a nice crunch from some roasted pumpkin seeds. They carved the steak table-side. It was delicious by itself but it was extra amazing with the bordelaise sauce. Two sides also came with the meal. We chose braised greens which were okay and the maple whipped squash which was really good. What we got also came with dessert. Now I was expecting one dessert to come out for us to share but no... we each got our own dessert. I think it was the mocha mousse cake but all I know is it was spectacular. I have to give it 2 stars. The food is good/great level, but the price is completely out of line. They use La Platte meat. Their 16 oz bone-in strip is $48. I've been buying the exact same meat in local stores for a couple years now. You can literally buy 3 or 4 boneless strips which have the same amount of meat compared to their bone-in strip for the same price. I know they say that their meat is dry aged in their own facility, but my experience buying the same meat is that The Guild's ageing didn't offer anything to the meat. To put this in context, I can cook most anything, do a lot of grilling, and have multiple styles of grills. I'm the type who almost never orders a steak out because it's something really easy to cook. We went to Guild just to check it out and see what the fuss was about. The consensus around the table was that none of us would go back. The $48 steak should have been $28. Other items we had were caesar and house salads. The caeser was just meh. The romaine was somewhat tough. Dressing the same caliber that you would find in a multitude of restaurants. House salad topped with beets which was a nice touch. The atmosphere is noisy, perhaps better if you had a booth. Parking easy. read more

I had been excited to try this place given the close proximity to my workplace and their association with The Farmhouse (a favorite of mine), American Flatbread, and El Cojito. I made it here last night for a belated birthday dinner with the in-laws. First off, the remodel is amazing, as would be expected when you see what they did with the McDonald's that now houses the Farmhouse. It was comfortable and warm (aesthetically AND temperature-wise) with a nice fireplace as you walked in. The owner (I assume) was seating tables - a really great touch, just wonderful to see. The food is fantastic - beautifully presented and just melts in your mouth. I had the pork special which was pork stuffed with sausage (I mean really - how can you NOT order it?!) and served with an au jus. It was wonderful. It came with a choice of sides, bread, and a salad (which was one of the best salads I think I have ever had). We then all opted for dessert, which again was delish! Now, here's where it falls a little short. While the food and service were top notch, I agree with Allison D's comment that it feels 'cafeteria-like' with so many people in there and the noise level. My father-in-law mentioned that it would be a great place to bring business clients of his but he was concerned about the noise level. Even the waiter was a little hard to hear and if he was talking to one of us, the others could barely hear the conversation. Also, my husband and I were talking after we got home and we both felt that it has a pretentious vibe that is lacking in it's sister restaurants. Maybe it's the rather high price point? We also noticed that the Farmhouse makes a friendly, casual mention of their use of local farms - it's written on chalkboards on the walls and appears on the menu. At the Guild, it feels like it's a more prominent theme - on the menu only (that I could see) and it's reflected big time in the price point. Now, I don't mind paying for great quality food but if your sides are salad, bread, and carrots, you know darn well that the $30 price tag is really mostly a reflection of the local meat. It is a steakhouse, that is their thing, I understand that. I just don't like when it is meat and sauce on a plate with sides separate on another dish. I like the simplicity of having everything on one plate and having the combination of flavors together. Plus I found myself a little annoyed with the quantity of dishes on the table. If something is cooked separately, like a potato gratin, I get that, but for something like carrots, it makes more sense just to have it on the same plate. The overuse of dinnerware also adds to the pretentious vibe, which feels off being that it is, again, rather loud and slightly cafeteria-like. All in all, the food and service are top notch but I'm a little let down that it is so pricey that I cannot see it becoming a regular non-chain after work place. There are so few in the Williston / South Burlington area! We will definitely go again but it's really a special occasion place and not necessarily when we want to have quiet dinner conversation. read more

Had a delicious steak dinner here. Cozy contemporary rustic atmosphere and warm staff enhanced the meal. In addition to the steak I tried the mushroom bacon goat cheese appetizer and it was a amazing. Good beer selection and pairings by our server. Six of us went here for the first time last night. The food was good but the experience was not. It took an hour and 55 minutes to get our entrees from when we sat down. The worst part of the experience was the noise. It was without a doubt the loudest restaurant I have ever experienced. It was very difficult to hear the conversations at our table and this really took away from the experience. The food was good. Everyone enjoyed their steaks (pretty expensive) and everyone thought the crab dip appetizer was excellent. If not for the noise and very slow service this would get a higher rating. read more

The food probably deserves a 4 or 5 star rating. However the noise and service bring it down. The Service was friendly and helpful but it took 1 hour from order to table and that was without any appetizers. I will give them benefit of doubt on that one as they have only been open about a week (10/17/2012). The food was over salted so order without any additional seasoning. The noise was just oppressive you could hear the conversation of tables across the room. They need to hire a sound engineer to come in and deaden that noise. The food however was very good and locally sourced where ever they could. I will be back in 4 to 6 weeks and give them another try and hope they have worked out the kinks. read more

I don't think there is anything I can say but thank you ! Guild is like going to Boston for a dining experience. I found service helpful and friendly and our food was fantastic. I booked online using link to opentable and requested a booth since we were dining with children. When we arrived they welcomed us, took coats and seated us at a booth . Perfect ! I had a filet , my husband had NY strip . Excellent ! They have a kids menu and kids had dessert ( carrot cake , perfect) . Can't say enough about the decor . Fine Vermont dining, not at all what I expected. I heard this steak house was the best of the best and could take weeks to get a reservation my boyfriend and I got in immediately on an incredible busy fall night, if you will we "got lucky". Our waitress was extremely nice and helpful with the menu. We started off with some wine and beer and then some shrimp cocktail for a small appetizer and bread of course. At this point nothing peaks my excitement at this restaurant no different to me than your average steak house. Being from NYC fine dining atmospheres are much different. We proceeded to order our meals both getting prime rib cuts medium well I got the blue cheese side sauce for mine which I might add was very tasty, my boyfriend got a bernaise sauce both with some garlic mashed potatoes. We waited the average amount of time for our food on a busy Saturday night. I've heard that farm to table food is the best of the best in my opinion in this instance there is nothing spectacular at all about it. By far the worst cut of beef I have ever had, I have had better at your average 30 dollar a plate, not 75 dollars a plate. Service was great food was so so, would never return to this place definitely not worth the prices. read more

The Guild was my go-to dinner stop after a day of skiing this past winter. For local meat dishes, plus everything else they serve, this place can't be beat. Of course it helps to have a reservation on the weekends around the peak dinner time hours. With that in hand we were always seated immediately and looked after well. I think the appetizers are the lesser known gems of this place. I always order the wings as an appetizer and I can never finish them. Will I learn? No. Their burgers are the same as their sister restaurant, the Farmhouse, so if the Farmhouse is packed (which it always is) the Guild is a good alternative for your burger fix. Their burger specials tend to be super good and worth the little extra. I try and do the steak from time to time as a treat to myself for not breaking my neck on the slopes. It is consistently wonderful, cooked exactly how I ask for it. In fact, the staff make suggestions based on what steak I'm getting that are better than how I originally asked for it done, and they have been correct every time. They have a large beer menu, but the cocktails are what really stick out, booze-wise. It is a little pricey, but you are probably paying what it actually costs, and the flavors are worth it. I really love this place. It is also little kid friendly, with a kid's menu. Hey students! If your parents are in town, get them to take you here. Hey Parents! I've lived here for almost three years now and in spite of how many amazing things I've heard about the place I am ashamed to say I haven't been to Guild until now. I always thought it was too pricy or too out of the way or too fancy. And it was on the pricier side, and yes maybe a bit out of the way, but cripes was it worth it! I had the petit filet minion and my partner had the chicken mixed grill, both delectible and flavorful. The cocktails were out of this world, I had the Brooklyn (my first time trying that one) and he had the best Old Fashioned we've ever had. Bonus - They have specials almost every night, like $10 burgers on Sundays or half price Oyesters on Thursdays. I will definitely be back and will be bringing friends. read more

Fav restaurant. Great staff, awesome drink selection (rotating hill farmstead taps , extensive cocktail list), great food. I never order meat at restaurants simply because I don't trust where most restaurants get it from and don't really eat me (vegetarian). By when I come out to dinner here, I have to get steak or a burger. It's a farm to table restaurant, there is a chalk board that lists where they source all their food (which is locally) and it's cooked on a wood fire grill. Can't get any better! I love the poutine, any of the burgers (I do order mine medium plus because they actually check every single meat by temperature and it is accurate, so medium is a little to rare for me here), any of the salads (house salad is great and seasonal), steak & shrimp, and steak for two. We just had dinner here...recommended by the B&B where we are staying after we described our preference as "fit for a foodie with local and organic food" and it was just okay. Service was fine, ambience was good (nice touches) but food was mediocre. We had the pulled chicken which, again, was fine, but not great. We asked if the brisket was fatty and was told that it had no fat...all lean meat...it was super fatty. Wine selection was just okay...if Applebee's or Lone Star is your cup of tea...this will do, but if you're looking for a unique and palate pleasing dining experience, I'd keep looking. read more

Went to Guild for the first time on my birthday with my wife and two friends of ours. I was happy to be getting treated to dinner because the prices are a bit extravagant. Price aside, this place showed me they could do steak! We had the bone-in ribeye for two. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, with a delicious char on the outside, well seasoned, and aged to perfection. The steak was presented table side, and carved in front of our eyes! Very cool! Every bite I found myself saying wow! The mussels we shared were plump, clean, and delicious. The salad was a bit bland and underwhelming, but the main event was great. The sides were plentiful and delicious and the food cooked perfectly. If this review was based only on food I would give Guild Five Stars, but oh my, how our service was lacking. Let me explain... When I go to a place of this caliber and price, I expect attentive, courteous, and knowledgeable servers, but I found our server to be unfriendly, unattentive, and apathetic. I'm willing to put up with a server who is a bit green, but I have no patience for someone who is unwelcoming or flip. After barely a hello our waiter (tall, blond, glasses) filled our water glasses with "too important to be here" body language and facial expression. He offered very little insight as to the menu and even less about the wine list. After ordering a beer, I waited several minutes and finally asked a passing manager to look into it for me. He brought it over promptly. Our server was again unfriendly and uninterested as he took our order, and when I asked for a wine suggestion to go with the ribeye, he did not even make eye contact with me and flippantly said, the Decoy Cabernet is what people usually order with steak. Dude! Really? (not to mention that it's a grocery store wine) not impressed! He did not even wait to see if that wine worked for me, he just brought it, and did not ask once if I was enjoying it. It was amazing! We loved it. Appetizer: Crab Dip with crostini. (Real crab meat and so yummy!) Main: House Steak with the House Steak Sauce with a side of garlic roasted broccoli (Amazing) Desert: cheesecake (Heavenly) It seemed like everything we got came with a little surprise! We got bread and butter to start. Then the appetizer. Then they brought around this fantastic salad with beats, greens, pumpkin seeds, and squash-I didn't know I liked beats until today. Then the main meal came and it was melt in your mouth good. I had the Vermont Ice Cider "Heirloom Blend". Then we got the cheesecake and it came with another surprise! a little donut thing with a crispy crust. It was SO good. The whole meal was fantastic. Our waiter was pleasant and really attentive! Had dinner with my parents this evening and was impressed with my experience. The food was great, as was the service and atmosphere. My dad wants ribeye, whiskey and a place to celebrate both. My mom wants crab, a Cosmo and a salad. I went with a gin fizz, squash fritters red meat too. We split oysters to start and washed it all down with espresso and single malt. Food was all good and everyone left happy. Meat was pricy though satisfying. The bill wasn't mine to cover so the Guild was a good place to splurge and enjoy. read more

One of the things I noticed when I moved to the Burlington area almost 16 years ago was the lack of high-quality steakhouses. Sure there was the Sirloin Saloon, but let's face it; that place really wasn't any better than a Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn Steakhouse (none of which are bad, but also not what I would consider exceptional steakhouses). I'm pleased to say that the Guild Tavern has amply filled that void. From the cozy atmosphere (complete with the open, wood-fired grill on which the meats are cooked) to the great cuts of aged beef, this place is what a quality steakhouse should be.
