Sitting outside gave us a gorgeous view of the waterfront, and the round tables with deck chairs were comfortable and perfect for letting everyone in our party talk to each other. I shared the lobster roll and fish and chips, and both were prepared well and came with a generous amount of french fries. The lobster roll was marked as market price ($34 when we went) and was about 3oz of lobster meat. It wasn't the largest restaurant markup I've seen, but it also wasn't a great deal. The fish and chips was a fish filet covered in bread crumbs instead of the usual thick batter. It felt similar to fish sticks was a good balance of tender on the inside and seasoned on the outside. I would come again for the lovely views and to try their other menu items. A few members of our party got tacos which looked good.

I would have eaten like 12 of the clams if they let me but they alas only give you 6. My favorite was grilled Romano beans, slightly crunchy, fresh, and light, with burrata and fried green tomatoes. The breading on the tomatoes was perfectly light and crunchy. The burrata was delicious, and I would have preferred to have it over the barchetta, fresh ravioli like pastas that came with fennel and arugula. The barchetta was missing that creamy element. The served our pork schnitzel as a "splitzel" served cut in half on two plates. Again, it was perfectly crunchy and light. We ordered pomme puree (mashed potatoes) as a side too, creamy and delicious. They had a decent wine and beer selection. Each menu is date-stamped, which I'm obsessed with--it's a great reminder of how fresh everything is. Vermont generally has a great local food scene, and I really appreciate the thoughtfulness behind the ingredients, presentation, and overall quality. Frankie's is a restaurant I'd highly recommend for groups, family dinners, date nights, or even corporate dinners. I'd love to come back and explore more of their wine selection. It was a nice bar, with a very pretty stained glass table lamp on the counter and a very cool-looking bartender adding flair to the otherwise conservatively-attired staff. The menu is extensive and very Turkish. Even the wine list: every wine that I checked was Turkish. I know nothing about Turkish wine but the one I did try (many available by the glass) was enjoyable. I tried a cocktail too; a Turkish Cosmo, made with a Turkish pomegranate syrup. This was good too, tangy and not too sweet. For beers they offer ones from Turkey, Vermont, Mexico, and Connecticut. I was happy not to see any major American brands offered. I don't usually comment on prices, but they seemed slightly on the low side here, for everything: drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. I am not complaining! I started with the Cold Meze Platter appetizer, recommended for 2. (Too much for 1 so I took some home.) Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Turkish Salsa, Hadari, and Stuffed Grape Leaves. Everything was very good, and the fresh-baked still-warm hadari bread it was served with was perfect with it. The Baba Ganoush was exceptional, chunky in texture and smoky in flavor. From the very extensive entree section I chose the Surf and Turf: skewers of swordfish and lamb, the latter cooked to order (it came out a perfect medium-rare as requested). The skewers, which also had green pepper and onions, was served with rice, bulghur, grilled tomato, a lemon wedge, and a salad of cabbage and pickled onions. Both the swordfish and lamb were marinated and had lots of flavor. The sides were good too. The portion size was generous and I didn't quite finish it, taking the rest of it home along with some of the appetizer. After finishing my entree and my wine, and taking in the ambience of this relaxing, blue-walled space, it was time for dessert. Among the 8 choices (a refreshingly large number) were 3 kinds of baklava. I went with the Fistikli Çikolata (chocolate, pistachio, and hazelnut) If, like me your experience with baklava has mostly been the junk found on the counter of numerous pizza houses (stale, dry, and overly sweet) this is nothing like that and will change your opinion. The three pieces made a fairly large portion but it was so good there was no question of leaving any behind. This was also offered with Turkish ice cream but I didn't get it that way. Many more things to try here. I hope to return soon.

I'm usually one to read reviews instead of writing them myself but some of the garbage I'm seeing on here from people complaining inspired me to jot down a few of my own comments this time to shed some "light" on the actual experience here, get it... Anyway, I'm pretty picky but I've been to the previous T-B*n*s and let's start by acknowledging that the new Lighthouse has really changed form here. I'm talking about an elegant dining room, a nice pub style bar area with several TVs and an oversize outside deck to enjoy the weather over a cocktail or the regular fare. I've been several times now since they've opened and am very impressed. On three different occasions I've attended large party functions which they seem to happily accommodate and other times I've been just to relax out on the deck. Each time our entrees are cooked to perfection and are always memorable. I've been to all the restaurants in town and am willing to suggest that the steak, sea food, chicken & lamb are as good if not better then the best around. The menu was designed to fill your appetite for everyone who enjoys a good size meal. The entrees come with salad bar and even though the plates are small, I can fit more then enough on my plate by stacking up and mixing the toppings together, something that naturally goes along with knowing how to make the most of what you're given which for any common sense individual really isn't an issue. Regardless on the plate size, it's difficult to finish your main dish no matter what amount of salad you consume which says a lot cause I can really eat. My advice, don't overdo the rabbit food to begin with, enjoy it as an appetizer as it was intended to be. Let me tell you about the beer selection from someone who knows and loves beer. Lets see, Fiddlehead & Switchback, need I say more. If you like VT beer, you need to be familiar with those two or you shouldn't say you're from Vermont. Many others to choose from but those would be my favorite. Just stop by the Lighthouse, enjoy fine dining in a comfortable environment where if you want to find something to complain about, I can assure you it wont be the quality of your food, not much else to say. If you don't happen to have a pleasurable experience like the ones you read about in the journal of skymall, ask to speak to someone about it. Otherwise, how could you possibly expect a reasonable resolution. Enjoy! read more

My husband took me here for our Anniversary. We were on a long weekend getaway from NY and decided to stay in the Colchester/ Burlington area. We read the reviews and decided to go. The atmosphere was perfect, and we were seated in the upper part of the dining area. Our waitress Brenda was the best waitress we have ever had. She recommended the Maple Manhatten for my husband and I had a great Margiartia. The salad bar was amazing, with fresh everything and more choices than I have seen in long time. Brenda helped with deciding our main course and we couldn't have been more delighted with her choices! I had the Queen prime rib which was cooked to perfection, med. rare and my husband had the Short Rib special which he said was amazing! Our dessert was the maple creme burle, also recommended by Brenda and she wasn't wrong again!! Service was perfect, we didn't feel rushed and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. I was shocked at the price of the bill, was excepting a much higher amount!!! Well worth the price and we will make sure we come back to the Lighthouse in the near future! I have dined at the new Lighthouse Restaurant four times since its opening in January. Each time proved better than the last, and each experience was exquisite. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing; the staff was attentive and genuinely seemed to care that we were enjoying ourselves. The food--amazing! I had the chateau bistro steak on three of the occasions and each time it was cooked to perfection; crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness on the inside. On our fourth visit I ordered the BBQ Meatloaf and was thoroughly impressed. And, there are not many restaurants around that offer such mouth-watering comfort foods. I will definitely be going back for more! And lucky for me, I overindulged on the salad bar with all its options (especially the beets and baby corn) and the yummy Cheddar Ale soup prior to my entrée that I had plenty of leftovers for the next day. The prices are very reasonable and the portions on the large size. I will be frequenting this establishment for what I hope are years to come. read more

I would say that this is one of the worst restaurants in the area. First of all the waiter looked like he was on drugs and was very spacey. The salad bar was okay but the dressings were gross. I figured it would be safe ordering a filet with Bearnaise and some other red wine reduction sauce with a "lobster tail". First of all the bearnaise was okay but the red wine sauce was not reduced enough and was horrible. The steak was sitting in it so there was no salvaging it. The "lobster tail" looked like the size of a shrimp and was so overcooked it was like rubber. I ordered a house martini with cheddar stuffed olives and despite the olives looking like they had sars I tried one. Of course the cheese was bad inside thank you for that! So if you are looking for bad drinks and worse food this place is your spot. This goes to show that places aren't well managed. Have some respect for your customers and serve fresh products or we will say something to others to warn about you. You will go out just like tbones did. read more

So, had a "Deal Chicken" certificate for $25 for soup and salad bar which usually costs $10 per person at lunch. Since my friend and I are water drinkers, we didn't order drinks. To use up the rest of the $5 from the certificate, we tried adding chicken to our salad ($4) as suggested on the menu but were told it couldn't be included. Asked about adding dessert and that wasn't possible either, only soft drinks/coffee/tea. Our waitress, who was very nice said since we didn't order soft drinks, the salad bar was billed at $12.50 each. INTERESTING business practice....... On the flip side, the salad bar was fine, bread was fine and soups were delicious though barely warm. We have been to the Lighthouse a few times since it was taken over, which is why I bought the Deal Chicken. Based upon the little bit of good will that could have been given to us, it will probably be the last time. As always, BUYER BEWARE!!!! read more

The Best Food EVER! Portions are unreal. The atmosphere on Fridays and Saturdays with piano player is heartwarming! I have been several time...have had several different staff member and they have all been great. I have brought several friends there and they all agree....Big bang for the Buck!!! We have enjoyed the Prime Rib, Lobster Risotto, Meatloaf, Pork Chop, Tuna (awesome) and several of the other Fish Specials. They had Maple Spare Ribs as a special that was to Die for!!! Tried this place because it was nextdoor to our hotel. Bad choice! They apparently had a large party of 50 and did not plan ahead. They were out of prime rib, potatoes and bread. I had to ask another waitress to bring me my soup because our waitress never did and finally after being there for almost 2 hours I asked for our dinners to go. We recieved our dinners and walked back to the hotel that is in the same parking lot, approximately 2 minutes, and the food was cold. Now when I say cold I don't mean a little chilly I mean like it came out of the refrigerator cold! $70 for bad service and food that was inedible. Save your money and go anywhere else! read more

I went here for dinner one night after stopping into a furniture store and Costco and was not impressed. They did have a big menu but food was definitely not fresh. Having that big of menu there is always issues with keeping things fresh. I went to culinary school so I believe my opinion is valid. I know when things aren't cooked right and when things aren't fresh which this place has the problem of both. the salad bar which I feel like they are trying to copy the Windjammer is not even close. Regardless of all the negative comments posted we chose to make a reservation and take all 16 of our friends for dinner.We arrived a half hour earlier than our reservation, the dining room was packed the bar was full and several of the tables on the patio were filled with people socializing. We ordered drinks, stepped out onto the patio and were seated within 15 minutes of our reservation. The Staff is great. I wanted something simple so I ordered Soup, Mac and Cheese and string beans. The food was just what the doctor ordered. I was on my own and I never had the feeling of being rushed to turn over the table for a larger party like I get a lot when eating alone. I ordered the 8 0z filet with the salad bar the steak looked like it was 4 0z was not happy with it. Asked server for another one and responds you ate half of it. Next time we go out Roadhouse it is. Also the salad bar I did not eat because I saw a few bugs near the plates, they looked like a form of cockroach and there was romaine out at salad bar even after recall. Because this was lunch I didn't try any of their numerous seafood entrees. The fish was haddock. A single, thick piece of a generous size that fit the bun well. The fish was very fresh, flaked nicely, and the batter was crunchy, just the right thickness, and adhered to the fish without coming off. The brioche bun, butter-brushed and shiny on top, was fresh and slightly sweet. It's served open-faced with the lettuce (good greens, not iceberg) and tomato (a thick slab, pretty good for a restaurant tomato) on one side and the fish on the other. So the greens stay crisp and you can season to your liking and then assemble it. It was served with generously-sized lemon wedges and tartar sauce on the side, and the waitress brought a bottle of Tabasco on my request. This comes with choice of one side. I chose french fries. I feel that it should come with two sides. A small portion of cole slaw would have been nice but I wasn't going to order a large portion a la carte. But the fries were excellent: standard cut, with skins, double fried but not greasy, and generously salted. Perhaps a little more fries than I needed. Half fries and half slaw would be better. It was the middle of the day so I didn't try any of their interesting sounding specialty cocktails, many of which included maple syrup this being Vermont. And the sangrias sounded interesting (2 kinds; the red included amaretto and the white, peach schnapps and Sprite, both made with fresh fruit). Instead, I got a Citizen's Cider, refreshing and bubbly, filling the pilsner glass to the brim, and just slightly sweet. Perfect. My waitress, and service overall, was good. There was a bit of a delay after ordering my drink, and I was very thirsty, but she eventually returned, with apologies for the delay, and also brought water at that time without asking. No other issues with service. She even noticed a mistake on the bill and corrected it before I even noticed: charged me for the wrong dessert, saving me a whole dollar! For dessert I got the "Citrus Tarte". From the description it sounded like a Key Lime Pie so I asked and she said that's basically what it is. I imagine the only difference is they use a generic lime juice or other citrus rather than key lime. It was ok but not spectacular. The filling wasn't really tangy enough and lacked that special key lime flavor. The crust, loosely pressed graham cracker, was very good, with more than the usual amount of salt. However, it was served with an excessive amount of whipped topping out of a spray can, and it was definitely not real cream. Moreover it was starting to melt so it was not attractive. I didn't use it. Either use real whipped cream - even if it's from a spray can - or leave it off completely please. The dessert was HUGE though. I wasn't planning to eat the whole thing but in the end I did. The place was clean but a bit run down. The floor was covered by outdated wall-to-wall carpeting and was stained (but not dirty). Wood paneling was chipped and in need of refinishing. Curtains on the windows have seen better days. Overall though, it's an attractive, comfortable place to eat. The bar was especially attractive with its dark wood and mirrors, and quirks like an antique grandfather clock (not woking) gave it a a homey feel. Bonus: I saw no television anywhere! Restroom was also clean. I don't know that I'd get an expensive seafood dinner here. But maybe I would. They do have quite a large selection, not all standards. I'm a bit bothered by their vagueness about sourcing, saying only "We strive to ... support local farms and other local vendors as much as possible." Without listing the names of those farms and vendors as is customary. And "as much as possible" really means nothing at all as far as I'm concerned. Ok, so first impression, based on a limited lunch experience, is 4 stars. This could go down or stay the same on a return visit and I'll update if that happens. It was good enough that I'd certainly consider a return visit someday.

All of the food was full of flavor and fair portion size. Restaurant poco does not take reservations in advance. It's easier to get a seat in spring summer or fall when they open up their outdoor seating and so can host more guests. You have to go to put your name on the wait list regardless of the season and even in summertime with more seating it can be a 20-40min wait. They play good funky music which can sometimes be overwhelmingly loud inside (I.e. a jock jam will be playing at club volume level), that's one of my few complaints. You can be at a two person table and only a few feet away from your dinner date but not always hear them. This happens mostly just during the winter. Outdoor seating is nice with outdoor lights and easy to see and hear whomever you're dining with. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone as they always have great tasting food and good drinks. A little on the pricier side, but worth it.

The food wasn't just the standard pub fare; everything we tried that day was excellent. I had fish tacos and French onion soup. Two flour tortillas, packed with fried haddock, coleslaw, and a spicy remoulade, served with lime wedges. The tortillas were toasted for extra flavor and held together well, easily holding the generous fish portions and wet coleslaw. The fish was fresh and the batter was light and crispy. Portion size was reasonable. The onion soup was outstanding. The broth was full-bodied and rich and seemed homemade, not from canned stock - though I can't say for sure. It was a bit salty like most, but the seasonings (I noted thyme and pepper) balanced it. The cheese on top (Swiss I think) was nicely browned, the onions sweet and caramelized, and there were plenty of toasted croutons made from a French baguette. Scallions on top added color, some crunch, and completed the dish. When I got the bill I was pleased to see the soup was only $3 not $8 as listed on the menu, because they treated it as a substitute for the fries normally served with the tacos. Which was fine as I didn't really need fries - and I had some of the wife's anyway, which were very good. The wife had The Clothier: a sandwich with marinated fried chicken, pepper jack cheese, candied jalapenos, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and house-made spicy ranch. Excellent. For a drink I had a Citizen's Cider on tap, one of my favorites. Beers on tap - of which there were many - and the cider are offered in 16 and 22 ounce sizes. The menu had lots of options. The expected pub standards and also some unusual items liked fried green beans, tomato artichoke bisque, and an extensive baked mac & cheese selection. The desserts included "Our Famous Twiggie", a cookie (choose from 3) topped with ice cream, two kinds of syrup, and whipped cream. The cookie is baked to order and takes 15 minutes! The interior looked really nice, but the day was so pleasant we sat outside on the street-front patio, across from the St. Albans city park. It was so pretty with the bountiful floral arrangements in the park and on the sidewalks. I know it's not the restaurant's doing, but it really contributed to the ambience. Some other points to mention: The inside walls are covered with a rotating selection of local art, with the featured artist changing periodically. I don't know if the art is for sale or for display only. And the events calendar listed "Wine Wednesday" throughout August and September: 1/2 price bottles of wine. That's an event I would support!
