I'm not normally a steakhouse kind of gal, but we wanted to see what the hype was all about, and Guild definitely lives up to the hype. We finally had a chance to try the World's Best Beer from Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro, and my first sip was so evocative and complex, it was almost psychedelic. Wow. We started by sharing the rabbit terrine, delicate and delicious, and complimented by perfectly grilled bread, pungent coarse mustard and lip-puckering cornichons. For dinner we shared the bone-in ribeye for two, which came perfectly cooked and carved tableside with two excellent sides: rich creamed kale & spinach and a lovely potato leek gratin, some grilled onion on the side and Cyrus Pringle sourdough. Lovely new location. Very open and spacious. The Dangerous Summer cider cocktail was delicious, comparable to anything I've had in NYC. The Caesar salad was very tasty--the dressing was quite tasty and not too heavy or creamy/overwhelming. I shared the dry aged rib eye for two. OMG. Probably one of the best steaks I've ever had, and I've been to some of the nicest steakhouses in NY and Argentina. The beef here is so fresh and flavorful, and the char on the meat was absolutely perfect. The whipped potatoes and onions rings were a little plain, but still good. The chocolate mousse cake was very rich and delicious--a little light on the mousse, but I ADORE mousse. Our server was also fantastic. Very friendly and attentive. Great spot for dinner. It was a simple appetizer meal we shared of poutine (nothing special), steak tartare (small serving on a disc of a warm hash-brown-like rosti--ruined the good tartare on top), and roasted vegetables (just barely past the borderline of undercooked). We sat at the bar and the women bartenders were unengaging (other than the younger guy behind the bar who asked us how we enjoyed the meal). Really yummy spot. The onion rings were crispy but didn't have much flavor, had to add some salt. The horseradish cream was okay, again not very flavorful. Rustic atmosphere. I was expecting more of a fancy crowd but some families and very casual wear. I went at 4:30 on a Friday, if that helps. Ordered the shrimp and steak. Was very well cooked, tasty, and a decent portion ($29). Topped of with the daily selection of salted caramel ice cream which was divine. All in all, yummy. Happy eating! read more

I've been to this restaurant several times and for the most part, my experience has been satisfactory (3 stars). However, last night, I was served with a side of BS with my meal. I always say that one of the best measures of a steakhouse is how they serve a well done steak. So that's exactly what I decided to test last night. I even informed the server that I don't want the steak cut/butterflied as that promotes poor and lazy technique on the chef's part and promotes dryness of the steak. When I got my steak, it was already sliced in 3 pieces. It was also burnt on one side. I actually had to slice off a layer to get it off. When I asked the server why the steak was sliced, she told me that they do this now because they get a lot of complaints about the meat being tough. When I commented that well done does not mean burnt, she stated that this was because of the type of wood fired grill that they use. These types if explanations might fly with a regular diner but for me, I was just in utter disbelief with the server's explanation that I remained speechless! I paid full price for my improperly served steak. I'll do this again one more time and see if the experience is different. read more

Went to Guild & Co. for a private event, and they would not stop impressing me! The food (heavy hors d'oeuvres) was flavorful, perfectly executed, and fresh out of the pan/oven/ocean. The oyster bar was fresh and indulgent (locally harvested from MA), the crab cakes were crisp on the outside and luscious crabbiness on the inside, the fondue spread was lovely, and the house drink specials were exciting and well-balanced. There were several other hors d'oeuvres, but it became a blissful blur of "what could possibly be next?!" And the desserts? Wow. I may or may not have had a huge pile of tiny desserts on my plate... But most of all, I was delighted with how smooth the service was. The waitstaff was clearly well trained and managed. I will definitely be back for a "regular" dinner service, and possibly host a private event with them in the future. Well done. read more

The ability that Catamount Hospitality has to transform the mundane to the spectacular never ceases to amaze me. Farmhouse, definite favorite of mine. El Cortijo, favorite restaurant in Burlington, and now Guild, spectacular! The building was transformed from a Ground Round to one of the cozier and classiest dining rooms in the area. It feels like home the moment you walk in. The food is amazing, as I expected it would be. We had spinach & artichoke dip that was gone within seconds. We had a fantastic family-style salad, and for an entree I tried the mushroom tagliatelle which easily matched or beat any of the top Italian restaurants in VT. The rest of our table of 6 also overwhelmingly agreed that their entrees were superb. The restaurant gave our entire group free desserts as well, because they thought that our wait for a table was too long; we didn't think the same but didn't turn away the desserts! They were also fantastic. The chocolate cake was a hit. Finished the night with a French press coffee from my friends coffee company, Black River Roasters. All in all, an amazing way to spend 3 hours with good friends; I'll certainly be back at least monthly. read more

We were a party of 10 just a few weeks ago, celebrating my daughter's graduation from the University of Vermont. I made the reservation back in January based on reviews from my daughter and her friends. I did not know what to expect. I have to say from start to finish everything was excellent! The atmosphere was perfect, the service was very good and the food was delicious! From appetizers to dessert, fabulous! We live in NY and are New York City foodies! Based on some of the recent reviews I was worried. I noticed that many of the complaints were based around price. Again, coming from New York, prices seemed fair. Guild is so dialed. We've eaten here several times and the experience is better every time. They've got service, decor, and, most importantly the food is on lock. Another farm-to-table winner in the Burlington area. Every time I eat here it is good, but quite costly. The ribeye for two is always a winner and the sides are very sizeable. The atmosphere is quite cozy and Vermont dressy, which is casual anywhere else. Great concept having local farm raised beef that is aged. I hope it sticks around. Had the filet. It was more of a $25 dollar filet than $45. Guy sitting next to me had a burger. Looked much better than my filet. Wished I had that. I wasn't sure about this place because I've heard mixed reviews and the prices are comparatively high, but I enjoyed a wonderful meal with exceptional bread, wine, and other accompaniments. Service was outstanding, attentive without being obtrusive, as good as I've experienced in cosmopolitan restaurants around the world. And I have to make a special mention of Emrys for his part in upholding the standard of excellent service. The server was very attentive and took great care to ensure that the ingredients in each dish did not include any dairy due to a food allergy. Guild Tavern is a beautiful Resturant with a rustic farmhouse look. Old coffee grinders are on the beams above your head . The kitchen is a open air you see the chickens roasting and all the food being prepared. Our service was excellent the waitress was very attentive. I loved how everyone was dressed in black and waitresses had their hair pulled back . Appetizers were excellent . The steak tartare was amazing! We could have had a second order. The salads were nice size and tasty. I had the apple, pumpkin seeds and blue cheese salad. The oysters were fresh and opened properly. I would have had more than 6 but at $3 a oyster It can get pricey. All our main dishes were really good but portion size is ridiculous for the price! I had the salmon, vegetables and beets. The salad was two fork full bites and the beets were puréed then a wipe on the dish. The salmon was 3 oz the smallest piece I've ever had! Had they given roasted beets it would have not been so bad. The $7 dollar burger is a kids size burger nothing special. If it was grass feed it didn't taste like it. The shrimp and steak were delish in taste but also a very small portion. The food overall is excellent they just need to increase portion size for entree's. I hope to return to this Resturant and see they changed the portions . read more

I had some guests in from Germany, and we chose Guild Tavern for our final evening together. It was delicious, all of it. For starters, we had sweet potato fritters, poutine, a sampler cheese board, and steak tartare. For six of us, two of which were children, it was the perfect amount of appetizers to share and sample prior to our entrees. For entrees, there were two orders of the New York strip, a roasted mushroom quinoa salad, and the special steak entree for the night. The children ordered chicken tenders and burgers from the Kids Menu. It was all cooked to such perfection, and it was just the right amount of such high-quality food. For dessert, we did a platter of each dessert to share and ice cream for the kids, which would have been licked from the plate if possible. Our guests were really impressed and happy to have had a quality Vermont meal and delicious local steak. I'm so happy with the service of the staff and their attentiveness to our table. With two children at such a fine establishment, we felt comfortable and accommodated with the utmost of care. I went here a couple of years ago for dinner with my family and we had the worst experience ever in a restaurant. The food was very expensive, but it taste very burnt, dry, and felt inedible. We stopped in here on a Saturday evening after seeing an advertisement in the airport, and we were blown away! I loved the beets and fennel starter, and then I "settled" for a burger when they were out of one of the specials. That burger turned out to be the best of my LIFE and the standard by which I will judge all burgers in the future - cooked perfectly, topped with delicious white cheddar and sautéed onions, on a nicely toasted bun.
