My wife and I had dinner with friends at Guild on one of its first nights of service. We were extremely impressed. Some details: Cocktails: Absolutely delicious, vintage cocktails expertly prepared. The two drinks I tried were both perfectly balanced and vivid. Appetizers: We ordered clam chowder, shrimp salad x2, and the house crude. Everything was fantastic. We were eagerly passing bites back and forth the entire time. Main course: Aged ribeye, rare, x2, lobster x2. The steaks were phenomenal; perfectly seasoned and cooked, and incredibly high quality meat. The lobster was also delicious. Dessert: We split a chocolate cake which was delicious. Ambiance: Simultaneously elegant and relaxed, a really nice combination for Burlington. Location: A welcome addition to a part of town that has very few ambitious food options. Also, it's the only place of its kind in BTV that I can think of that has its own huge parking lot. Guild is the perfect place for a special dinner, and a great spot for travelers seeking a high-quality meal near the airport. Highly recommended. read more

I've been really excited to try this place for a while as I've heard tons of good things from friends. The atmosphere is nice and the service is very attentive, absolutely no complaints there. The time in between courses was very long but there's not much control a server has over a slow kitchen. Our poutine appetizer was okay. I order the crab cake sandwich and my partner had a burger. His was okay and mine was not good at all. It was processed and salty and had terrible fish stick like texture, not at all the lump crab meat noted in the description. My side of mashed potatoes was watery and bland and for $7, that was disappointing. The price point is extremely high for what you get; I expected much MUCH more. I can't imagine forking over $50 and up for the steaks given the quality of our sandwiches. The waitress was great and really wanted our feedback because we left a lot of food on our plates. We didn't complain though... I just don't think we'll be back for food. We might try half price cocktails on Wednesday, that special looks like it might be worthwhile and the atmosphere is nice enough that we might give it a second try for happy hour. read more

Top notch restaurant, very knowledgable staff. Gnocchi is done perfectly, slightly toasted finish and with a really great pesto sauce (I don't know if they want to secret ingredient posted but its something I've never had in a pesto before) There is also a great unique drink list - particularly the aperitif menu. Its hard to find a restaurant who can pull a dinner together this well from the bread, cocktails, appetizers, entrees, paired drinks/wine, dessert, and finally the aperitif. Excellent steakhouse cooked on real wood grill. We ordered the steak dinner for two, the salads were very good, fries were nicely seasoned, little disappointed on the vegetable sides. This restaurant is on the pricier side, but of good quality. I wish they had a better wine list, although the bar tenders were mixing a lot of specialty drinks. This is a great steakhouse! I ordered the Rabbit Terrine which was amazing as was the spinach dip. The bread, served warm , was perfectly bakes with a soft inner and crispy outside, and not so crispy it hurts. The service was ok, I'm not sure if it was the server or bartender, but there were a few delays. However the delays were caused, they acknowledged it and took extra care of us and sent out treats unexpected throughout the meal. I'd give them a 5 star, but I just don't think it has a 5 star capacity. Perhaps, but when I think of 5 star, I think of NYC, etc. The food beyond tasting good, you know is fresh, this is huge. Anyone can make food taste good, but knowing it's orgin makes a huge difference. Especially in the way the animals and produce are cared for. You know it's coming from the local farmer and could easily go visit the farm should you feel inclined. I was very impressed with the cocktail list and wine list. They took great care of us! I'll certainly be back next time I'm in town! A must try for anyone on the fence. Dress is what you make of it, as most VT restaurants are. You can go in jeans or a suit and not feel odd either way. Went here for dinner. We had a reservation and were seated in a corner booth. It was on the kitchen side and it was pretty noisy with a lot of banging going on back there. We started with oysters on the half shell and the steak tartare, which were both good. Service seemed a bit slow though. I had the bleu cheese burger and my husband had the BBQ beef brisket which were very good and nicely presented. We had the maple cheesecake for dessert which was nice with subtle flavor. Ambiance was nice, a little loud. Dress code was casual--we saw people in suits as well as cut off shorts with holes. Fine for date night, special occasion or dinner with kids. I've been meaning to try Guild Tavern since they opened and finally made it out there tonight. I really like the atmosphere. The cocktail menu is great and the drinks are presented well. The menu is varied, so there's something for everyone. I like that there wasn't just one or two things that appealed to me. I opted for the salmon entree tonight and it was really delicious. Good food in a nice environment. We came as part of a group of four with a reservation for 7 on a Thursday evening, but it probably wasn't necessary as the place was only about half full. We split an order of oysters, which was fairly fresh and tasty, as well as a side of poutine, which had decent fries but lacked in both sauce and cheese curds. For my entree, I had the bone-in ribeye, which was a delicious cut with lots of marbling. The bearnaise sauce that I chose with it was also delicious, but the meat itself was well-prepared and flavorful. We also split a bunch of sides, my favorite of which were the maple whipped butternut squash (so sweet and delicious) and the potato leek gratin, which had the right amount of cheese to go with the just-firm-enough potatoes. The service overall was very nice and helpful, and the restaurant has a nice, relaxed vibe, along with a bar area as you enter (but no TVs!). Would definitely recommend it as a place for a nice, slightly less casual meal in the area. read more

Random pick for dinner. Was in gym clothes and friend was in shorts. We walked in and people were dressed up (not like LA or NYC dressed up but still). Oppss. Blue cheese burger: five stars for taste. Came with half fries and half arugula salad; highly recommend getting a sunny side up egg added to the burger. Congratulations on receiving the honor of having the Best Steaks in Vermont (July 2016). While I didn't actually have the steak when I visited, I did however have the Steak Tartar which was absolutely amazing. I live the capers and the raw egg garnish as the tartar lay upon a bed of hash brown. The blackened chicken burger was also cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning, garnishes, and condiments. I look forward to revisiting the Guild Tavern once again. read more

5 stars for the food which was incredible!!! Hats off to the kitchen!! hate leaving mediocre reviews as I work in the industry myself and know how stressful it can be. We chose to sit at the bar, maybe we would have gotten better service at a table. The bar was not busy. Initial drinks were great and the food runners were on point with the timing on apps and entrees. After our entrees were dropped the bartender ignored us the rest of the night, never checked in to see how our meals were or asked if we wanted another drink as they sat there empty for the duration of the meal. He walked by us at least ten times with no eye contact. Very strange. Server 101 check in with your patrons to see how their meals are and if they need anything else! read more

I can't see why anyone would rate this place as high as they did. My husband and I have wanted to try this place for months. We got a gift card and were so excited to go. While we weren't terribly concerned with the prices due to the gift, we thought the prices for the steaks was unreasonable. My husband had a the blue cheese burger, and he said it was just okay, certainly not the best he has had. I ordered the BBQ pork shoulder. 70% of what I was served was pure fat. The sides were okay, but nothing special. The waitress was fine, but when I expressed my concerns about how unappetizing my meal was due to the gobs of fat, she said she was sorry and would tell the kitchen. I wasn't offered anything else. I left hungry after a $70 tab, wishing I had gone just about anywhere else. read more

Nice place. Went there for New Year's Eve so they were running behind on reservations. We sat right in front of the open kitchen which was really cool. Once settled in we ordered drinks. I got a Moscow mule, which didn't come in the traditional copper mug so that was disappointing. We got the poutine fries for appetizer, very good. We both got specials for entrees. This is an awesome steakhouse!! I have had their filet mignon a couple times and it has always been incredible. Since there are coupons around for Guild, it makes going there for an entree a bit more do-able. Although the prices are high, you get what you pay for: awesome food all-around (the crab cakes are awesome too!!). They have The Best steak tartare I've ever had. Wednesday is a good night to go because of the half price cocktail deals which makes it a good cocktail+apps place. (try the "Closing Argument" cocktail) The waitstaff have always been really friendly and accomodating. I have gone here for my birthday and they even brought me a complimentary dessert! read more

My overall impression is this place is all about the details and using the freshest products. The bar menu will satisfy all.. beer, wine and classic mixed drinkers. I went all out and ordered a perfect strip steak au Poive style with cheesy grits in a nifty mini cast iron dish and a wonderful house salad. Currently, if you like them on facebook, you'll see they have a whole slew of specials for each day of the week. The "Evening Out" nights are fantastic with imaginitive takes on cocktails and featured liquors or distillaries. Tuesday though is my favorite: Wings and beer. The wings are not your sloppy, saucy, greasy mess that you could get down at Buffalo Wild Wings...oh no. They are, like everything at Guild &Co, just a little different. They take local wings, smoke them, salt them and present them naked, and ohmygod are they good. I'm not sure if it's always they case but I think they also present this with 1/2 a particular draft. There are 4 whole wings included (so, really 8, as most places divide into the wing and drumette) and you won't be doing yourself any favors by not getting them. read more

Stopped in for a late dinner near the end of a long drive. I wasn't super hungry, so I just went for an app and a salad. I had the steak tartare, which was wonderful. I'd had the tartare at Farmhouse Tap in Burlington in the past, and this was even better. The Farmhouse one, when I had it, came with chips. An interesting alternative to toast points, but the chips overpowered the beef. The potato rösti, in this presentation, was much better, and complemented the beef beautifully. Also had the beet salad, which was typical of the beets with goat cheese/nuts you can find pretty much anywhere these days, but very well put together. The hazelnuts were a great improvement over the standard candied walnuts, and the pea shoots over the top were a very nice addition. I had a little extra room, so I tried the citrus panna cotta for dessert. It came without the berries that were listed, and instead had a very strong and bitter marmalade-type sauce, with a few citrus supremes. The panna cotta itself was great, but the other citrus on the plate and in the sauce completely overwhelmed it, to the point that I ended up trying to eat around it. Seemed like a partially failed experiment/work in progress. Service at the bar was very friendly and attentive, even though my visit was brief. Really liked this place. The ambiance is warm and cozy with fireplaces - perfect for a cold winter evening. We started our night with the butternut squash fritters. They were crispy on the outside, yet smooth and creamy on the inside. With the addition of the sauce, which added the perfect touch of sweetness, these were quickly gobbled up. My husband split the sirloin steak for two with my FIL. It was wheeled out on a cart and carved table side.My husband's face said it all with his first bite - delicious! Being pescatarian, I couldn't share the experience, but I took his word for it. My mother ordered the cast iron skillet salmon. This, I had a bite of, and wanted more. It was perfectly crisped with a celery root sauce. I may be ordering this on my next visit. I ordered the roasted mushroom and lentil burger. It was delicious and healthy. The outer edges were crispy and the yogurt sauce was perfect. Even the fries were superb! Usually, the fries are an afterthought, but not here. These were perfectly crunchy and seasoned. I come here following for a special dinner with my family and I was not disappointed with the food and drinks. The food was tasty and filling. The drinks were unique and delicious. The staff is attentive and friendly. And the atmosphere is fancy without being stuck-up. Only downside is that its a bit pricey and i've had better for the value. Rib-Eye - Fantastic marbling of the fat. Also the dry-aging adds a bit of musky to the meat. The beef flavor is more concentrated. The steak is a bit dryer because its been aged, so you might want to consider ordering the steak a bit less if you want the juices. I'm perfectly content without the juice because the flavor is great. Guild Fine Meats Summer Sausage - The sausage is fantastic. Warm, a bit spicy and sweet. I didn't think the cheese with particularly good and the dish was pretty pricey for what you get. Maple Whipped Butternut Squash - One of the best side dishes I've ever had with steak. Its creamy, earthly, sweet and hearty. Its basically everything i love in food. Brom Bones - A great cocktail as long as you're a fan of creamy drinks. The whiskey is apparent and pairs very interestingly with the pumpkin syrup. I loved it I'm a fan of Guild & Company and plan to come back in the future. read more

Really shameful service. From the moment we walked in the host gave off a very rude attitude, like we weren't welcome. The place was not busy at all, but she told us it was over an hour and 45 minute wait. There were at least 3 or 4 empty tables for 4. I gave the benefit of the doubt to the hostess that maybe they had a lot of reservations coming in. So we were told we could sit in the lounge area while we wait, and that it was also full service in case we want to eat there. We sat on 2 separate small sofas, and were looking over the menus. We were there waiting for several minutes without anyone coming over to us. Soon someone did come over to us, it was the super friendly and accommodating host from earlier. She barked at one of my party that they needed to sit on the same sofa as the whole group, and tried to make him move. There was no one waiting for these tables, and again the place was pretty empty! I would understand if they were slammed and needed more space, and if they handled it right, but it was dead! She simply went out of her way to be a jerk to us! That was the last straw, we walked out and told the host how rude and unwelcoming she was. She should not be in the hospitality industry, because she is not hospitable at all. You should not be antagonistic with your customers! Too bad used to really like some of the dishes there, but never again. read more

Oh my! This place is just the best! We sat at the bar for dinner and noticed right away that Denise and Emy know their stuff! They are the very friendly and knowledgeable bartenders! If you're celebrating anything special, call the manager and maybe it will get done. I made a reservation yesterday on their website and made a note that it was my daughter's 19th birthday and we were celebrating. Later I called the restaurant to make sure they saw the comment. The person answering the phone says "oh yes, Alex's 19th birthday! Yes, we have it". I said do you do anything for birthdays -- no, but if you order a dessert we'll put a candle and bring it to the table. Ok, so I order the apple pie and say I want the candle and I'll sing to her myself. Tonight arrive early - have a great meal and the service was great too. When I'm asked for a dessert menu, I clearly know she was not told of my daughter's birthday. My daughter would have been devastated if I said anything so we just ordered a dessert. Once I paid -- and not cheap at all -- $150 for two (and no alcohol!) before tip -- all I asked for was a freaking candle in a piece of pie that I had to pay for and they couldn't get that right. I sent my daughter to the car so I could gt it off my chest. The manager was very nice and apologetic, says it won't happen again....can't do anything for my experience, but hopefully when you have a celebration and want a surprise get the manager involved - hopefully that works. I personally won't be celebrating there anymore -- you have to learn how to create experiences for customers, make them want to return for the next celebration and they don't get that. read more

Went for a group "going away" dinner. Ordering drinks proved difficult as our server offered refills but then walked away without offering those of us who had just arrived and didn't have them yet. Once we ordered, things were fine but it was difficult to get drinks a second time. One half of the table was served while the other sat for a good ten minutes without food. The bussers and other support staff were a little too aggressive trying to clear plates. One person had to take their plate back twice from the busser because they weren't finished yet. Then something happened with the computer system and it took an extremely long time to be able to pay our bills. And to top it off, the food was only fine.
