The ambiance to start, is great. This is a phenomenal spot in Hinesburg to stop in for a meal. You can park in the area shared by Foam Brewing's adjunct and some other businesses. Been here before a while back and it was strained. This time the atmosphere and ambiance were much improved. It's a pub-casual environment and feels relaxed and casual. The service was good, and prompt. No complaints. The primary issue on this review was that I ordered the Buffalo Schnitzel. I had thought it was going to be with some buffalo sauce, but balanced, as the menu simply describes it as "tenderized pork loin, panko fried, buffalo sauce, Caeser salad, bacon, blue cheese" But unfortunately it came out with at least a 1/4 cup of Frank's Red Hot drenching the top of the meat. It so overwhelmed everything, and was not brushed on or anything. Will return to try other options but this visit was a miss. read more

There's a lot to like about this place. The menu is small but I got the fish and chips with salad instead of fries and it was delicious -- crispy fish, amazing side salad, and they kindly gave me malt vinegar as well. Service was quick and efficient. We went on a Monday night and all the outside tables were full. I appreciate that they have overflow with picnic table seating and activities outside for kids. We were staying near Hinesburg and this seemed the best choice for dining. We initially thought it was closed when we drove by, turns out, they just keep it really dark in there. Menu was slightly upscale pub food mostly. Of the options I was considering, the server recommended the fried chicken sandwich, and it was super tasty. We preferred it to the spicy chickpea sandwich, which seemed to suffer from a confluence of flavors. Service was friendly. Cocktails mediocre. Awfully dead on the Monday night we were there but it's one of the few places around that are open on Mondays, so we were grateful for that. read more

We have been here many times since it opened and have enjoyed it. Tonight we went and were very disappointed. My husband ordered the steak special and the steak was very tough, plus the potato with it was undercooked. Our appetizer arrived before our cocktails. My brother in law ordered soup and a burger which all arrived at the same time. My salad was ok but the grilled chicken in it was lukewarm, don't know what temperature it was supposed to be, cold or hot? It took forever to get the check. Selena was a great server! Very nice and checked on us appropriately. The poutine appetizer was quite good. The burger was awesome but I wish they had their own combos of toppings on the menu. Atmosphere was lovely, we went on a quiet night. I loved how many Vermont spirits were on the cocktail list, but I was less than enthused by the triple sec in a $14 cocktail and similar. They also use chambord and metcalfes has an awesome raspberry liqueur that's cheaper and just as good. They could definitely refine their cocktails some more. Nothing terrible though! read more

Overpriced and underwhelming. A lot of glitz and glamour for poor old Hinesburg. Definitely yuppy/hipsterish, catering to the more well-to-do self-righteous Vermonters. A lot went into this place, and it's really large (which made it very lonely at 5pm as it was empty...the "crowds" started coming in closer to 7pm). Didn't get our orders exactly correct, but the service was good, prompt and friendly. There's no close handicap parking, so if you have difficulty walking don't bother, as you have to walk up a long paved and curvy sidewalk, which, for even in a chair, would pose difficulty due to the incline. There's a lot of delicious-sounding things on the menu, but we weren't up for spending Ice House/Cafe Shelburne prices on a meal in Hinesburg. They have lamb and mussels and all that, but for well over $20 for an entree. Went in for dinner about 5:30 with my aunt. I got the half-priced "Hinesburger" which was $7 plus $1 for cheese, and my aunt ordered a white fish sandwich for $13. We both chose the twice baked potato as our side. Our plates looked lonely, even with the top bun presented off to the side. The twice baked potato, described as such with green onions and bacon, was actually a potato skin loaded with cheese. It wasn't even the equivalent of half a baked potato, and had I known it came doused in cheese and butter I wouldn't have ordered it as I thought it would be a healthier more substantial side choice. My aunt's white fish actually was salmon, but no complaints there I guess since she likes salmon and it's usually a more expensive fish. There's WiFi but you have to ask someone there for the passwords. Dunno if I'm supposed to advertise that. Sigh. At least it's more attractive than the original cheese factory. We met friends at the public house last night..super busy and our server was terrible...the host was incredibly kind and very attentive...so I will give the place that.. I had to remind our server three times that we ordered apps ..after she was gone for a while she came back and asked what we ordered... really??! The food was pretty good..love the Brussels! I would come back maybe when it is not so busy..I used to live on Hinesburg so I'm glad that this town has a good local place to go for food...very cozy and intimate inside... My advice is train your servers to be more attentive and maybe tell them to introduce there name and that they will be taking care of you this evening..the whole thing felt rushed and she seemed annoyed that I asked where our apps were after waiting for about 45 minutes for them... read more

The menu is diverse enough that you can eat here a few times while on vacation and not be locked down to any one thing on the menu. Everything we had was good and the wings and grilled squash stood out for me the most. The service was good if not a little tired and perhaps weren't fans of their jobs as some of them just seemed down right exasperated. They were always super friendly and did their best to accommodate. I would say overall this place is better than some of the other restaurants in the surrounding area and if we make it back this way again would love to stop in and get some wings! read more

The fried chicken strips appetizer is surprisingly amazing, which you wouldn't expect since you would think "how special can chicken strips really be?" We are regulars here for drinks with friends but this was the first and probably last time our family has gone for dinner. It was an unusually long wait to be greeted once we were seated. I ordered the Pork Tenderloin which I thought was very good. My wife ordered the Jerk Chicken Kabob which wasn't her favorite but she really enjoyed the Roasted Brussel Sprouts that she ordered with it. My 14 year old daughter ordered the Noodle Bowl. She barely touched it and I pointed out to our server that it was too spicy for her liking. There was no offer to take it off the bill, discount it, or compensate in any other way. I go to the Public House a lot, I've gone to the Public House so much my family calls it the usual. The usual is probably one of my favorites though. Lets start off with the looks. From the outside it looks like a good restaurant. With the lights and the deck. From the inside I think the public house looks like a regular restaurant, although It is very cozy and defines a Vermont restaurant. The food is amazing, right now it is winter so I am eating some Alfredo pasta, or the ny strip steak. In the summer I will switch to more seafood. The food never gets old and Is just amazing. By far the finest establishment between Burlington and Boston. And I should know because I travel all the time. Whether I go for an early dinner with family on a Tuesday evening, as last night was, or at the height of the busiest pre-holiday Saturday night, service is always exemplary, food outstanding, and the beer selection rotating in a good way. The only tiny little gripe I have, and it's difficult to control, is that the openness of the room promotes the high noise level, despite the tastefully-placed rugs that are by the ceiling. It's far from being enough to keep me away, however once there's only about half a dozen parties seated, things start to get loud. Many components of the dishes prepared here have local roots, which is awesome. Laplatte River Farm beef is always a treat!! I was pleasantly surprised to find a filet mignon on the menu (see my photo) which myself and one of my companions had for dinner. Needless to say, the plate was a knockout! The filet itself was out of this world and heated perfectly as requested (a true rare, which is difficult to achieve for any chef). Escalloped potatoes, usually a ho-hum and dull side, were incredible and paired with the perfect amount of cheddar to pack a smooth punch for the taste buds. Veggie of the day was broccoli and was steamed just enough to have the right amount of crunch and body. My other companions both got the burger that was on special, and I wish I took note of it but I don't recall the name. It included fried egg as a topping. They were both impressed and everything was cooked as ordered. Service by all of the hard-working staff was superb as always, from the moment we walked in the door. Fish tacos ("pub fare") were perfect in doneness, toppings, and temperature; two soft tacos with choice of greens or fries. Husband had house salad which involved chevre, so I could not sample; he added chicken from a choice of proteins to make it a meal, and it was ample. Nice beer list with half pours available (yay). I very much enjoyed the food, but the service leaves much to be desired. I came in a party of 3 on a Friday night and it was packed! I was surprised since it's in the middle of nowhere and was told to wait a few minutes. We were seated after not waiting too long, which was great. This is when the service turned from good to bad. We weren't even given menus by our hostess! I then tried to order some water, which I had to remind the waiter and took more time than it should've. The amount of time we had to wait for our food was also really long. I know they were busy, but it just seemed sloppy. I've gotten complementary dessert or drinks on better service than this. If not for the service, this place would get 4 stars. Next, the atmosphere. Really enjoyed it. This place was hopping both at the bar and in the rest of the restaurant. It's spacious and not too loud. Finally....the FOOD! Delicious! #Farro risotto special with goat cheese, fennel, and cranberries - very good, but was a little too heavy for it. Can't really taste the goat cheese, which I was kind of disappointed in. It also had too many cranberries for me and made it a little too tart for me. #Lamb burger - what my friend ordered and I should've gotten. I'm usually not a lamb fan due to the very pungent/potent taste (you know what I mean if you love/hate lamb!). This burger, however, was cooked perfectly, mild in the pungent/potent taste of lamb, and delicious. I was absolutely shocked at how much I loved it after just tasting a little. Will get this next time for sure. Other than the service, I did really enjoy this place. However, I just can't ignore how bad it was. I spent way more time than I should've there (~2 hours) and only ordered 1 dish! That's pretty crazy considering I've done 3 courses in the same amount of time. The good: The food. Everything we ordered was prepared perfectly and tasted great! A+ kitchen (and the kitchen is the only reason this is a two-star review and not 1.) The bad: The hostess was terrible. We had a 7:00 reservation and when we asked at 7:15 what was going on, we got a gruff response to the effect of "we had a big party before you and didn't have the capacity until 7:15, but lucky for you its 7:15." No apology or anything. After that, we waited about 15-20 minutes for someone to take our order, which took another 50 minutes to show up. We had to get a waitress' attention in order to get anything during that time, including water. We were checked on twice through the whole visit, once by the owner who apologized, noting the large party that came before us, and went on his way. Guess what? A large party before us IS NOT OUR PROBLEM. Yet everyone was rushed and unpleasant in dealing with us and we were there for more than 2 hours. The food was good, but I doubt I'll ever go back. That kind of service can't be saved by any kitchen, no matter how talented. I feel bad for the kitchen staff, who did such a great job only to have the experience ruined by an impolite and poorly managed wait staff. read more

They do have a decent beer list, so I had a nice ipa while my lady ordered a water for the time being, until she could decide. Let me start by saying that the staff was great. They were able to fit us in last minute and the service was fantastic. My boyfriend and I started with the mussels, which were amazing. But then things got bad. As our entrees arrived, we began to get disappointed. I had ordered the fish tacos. As I bit into them I noticed that the mayonnaise like sauce completely drowned the taco to the point that I had to scrape that as well as the slaw off of the taco. In addition, the beans that it came with were were tasteless and the rice was very dry. My boyfriend had ordered the lobster ravioli, which he was very excited for until he realized that all he was receiving were five soggy ravioli. To finish off the night, we decided to try to forget our not so great entrees and order a whoopie pie to go. All I can say is that it was so dry that most of it ended up in the garbage. They lose track of people waiting to be served, and then tell you well the other party is in the computer before you which was complete bull. No way to treat your customers but obviously this place won't own up to their errors because they obviously aren't good business people. Will never be back there are much better restaurants in the area and this is just a loud noisy bar. Perhaps you should have trained your hostess better oh but wait the hostess is always right. We don't get to Hinesburg often and after tonight I see no reason to visit more often. The restaurant was fairly busy, but the service was very slow. From reading other reviews there seems to be a theme here. After placing our orders it took forever for them to come. When they did, I didn't receive what I ordered. The waitress explained they had run out of part of what I ordered. She told the chef to just substitute, that it would be fine. Wouldn't you at least ask the customer? A loaded baked potato for fries? Seems like a fairly large difference. Thought perhaps the bill would be adjusted or a desert offered to make up for the substitution, wrong again. Took us asking to get a couple bucks off. The food was okay. For what we paid, I'd expect better and better service. read more

Wanted to love it... only liked it. The exterior design is certainly attention-grabbing in these rural, old-timey surroundings, but the inside is kind of non-descript. The patio area looks great for the right combination of temperature and non-bugginess. The food is good, but not spectacular. The standout for this flexi-pesca-tarian was the poutine which was delicious. I haven't had an authentic rendition of the dish, but whether or not this version approximated the original, I was a happy camper. Being a Vermonter I hate to rate local businesses low but I have given this place many tries over the years because it is so close. I will try anything so I'm not a good snob but I hate to pay good money for something I am disappointed in. Service: occasionally it's really good. If you are lucky you get certain people. Otherwise it's just ok. Occasionally new young people that don't know what they are doing. Staff seems to change a lot. Food: I'm vegetarian and any veg option I've tried beyond a salad was horrible. I wish they would get the impossible burger or add more veg options that are better. I feel the Impossible burger would fit with their menu and if they learn to cook it well it could be a hit for the veg crowd. Veg pasta options are always really bad. Even my husband had to agree. My husband eats meat and if you are like him and just get a burger and a beer you will be satisfied. Ambience: it's set up nice but there are some awkward two person tables in the middle of the room that aren't too comfortable. Otherwise it looks nice and decor is great. We visited last Sunday literally minutes after they opened. We were greeted by three hostesses and made our way to the empty bar. It's a beautiful space with a lovely dining room and adjoining deck seating. The bar was comfortable too and they featured an all-Vermont draft list. We happily ordered two "Rarefied Airs", Fiddlehead's newest home run, off of the rotating 13th tap and talked amicably with the bartender about Hinesburg and the Vermont beer scene. We didn't try the food but it looked, really, really expensive. Like shockingly expensive for a pub. I'm talking entrees in the mid to high twenties. In my mind that's special occasion pricing, not neighborhood pub pricing. The other thing was, even though it was empty when we arrived, we felt a little under served by the staff. One of the waitresses and the owner? were talking with the bartender which is fine, but not when there are empty glasses in front of the patrons for a number of minutes.... the guests should always be the first priority. We were greeted and brought to our table. The chairs and tables didn't feel very sturdy but we had a nice location in the place. The service was very slow to begin and then throughout the meal. Our entrees were nice but needed more seasoning. I think we were the most disappointed with the desserts. Whoops pie was super dry and not tasty at all and the lemon cake wasn't worth it, the icing was nice.
