There's the salesman there named Don. He's been with the company since they opened here in Indianapolis. This review is about him. Today, 3/2/2026, I went there to place an order for an item. Don was on the phone helping a customer and at the same time helping a customer physically there in front of him. And politely told me that he'll be with me shortly. What I noticed is, while on the phone, he was explaining to a customer something about the fretboard on his guitar. He spoke calmly with specific instructions to the customer and calmly gave the customer reassurance about how to handle his situation. When he finished with the customer on the phone and finished up with the customer that was in front of me, he was not angry or bothered and greeted me with a smile. In less than 10 minutes, my order was taken and I was on my way. This is called "attention to detail". If GC had 5 more employees like Don, it would be a much better place to shop. I have given this location so many chances. I miss IRC where I shopped for yrs, the customer service was exceptional, you were treated and it wasn't a cold experience. I came in spent $600 and was interested in some other gear. I was rushed , not even thanked or told my purchase was on floor , I saw my name on the box . The sales guy was so busy talking to a guy who wasn't buying a thing, I waited and waited and thought to heck with it. I drove far out of my way but ended up spending $2,800 at a competitors store because your guy was too busy ignoring me and talking to the other guy, I saw four other customers walk out over the same thing. Plus quite frankly I've dealt with him before and he is beyond rude and condescending. I won't be back. Everytime I walk out irritated and buying elsewhere. read more

The store seems to be understaffed. I went in to the store on a random weekday - non peak times specifically looking to talk to someone about getting a guitar and find out what I would need as a new player, braced to spend quite a bit of money. I was never greeted, and no one asked me if I needed help. I'm generally pretty patient and understanding if a retail place is busy, however after about 30-40 minutes of no contact, and no chance of contact, I gave up and left. The associates were on the phone talking to customers the entire time I was in the store, with absolutely no chance to engage or even check out even if I had known exactly what I wanted. Furthermore, the line to get to speak to someone never diminished, and only increased over time. I was behind 2 other people in line when I got there, and the line didn't move at all. By the time I left there were like 9 folks waiting in line and/or meandering around the front counter waiting for the staff to be able to assist them with checking out. I dunno what I should be expecting in this industry, but this felt like a massive waste of time to me. read more

New manager had every excuse in the book about my terrible experience with lessons department for DJing. I was made to wait an hour for lessons and my card was over charged $120 without my consent. Be very, very careful because the $1000 I spent on a controller with warranty showed up missing buttons and buttons. I miss Sam Ash. It's an amazing store just horribly managed. Purchased two items November 29th, 2024. Guitar was supposed to be 48 months same as cash, other item less expensive supposed to be 6 months. They were reversed and a nightmare to switch if I wanted to wait for someone to respond for days. Guitar was supposed to ship to my address, did not, had to drive to the store to pickup or have shipped to my house from the store, more handling! On the day of purchase one item was not even charged but was good enough to bring back in and have it rung up. I love my guitars. I'm a daily player, and while I'm a non-performing, intermediate player, I consider any purchase related to the hobby to be important. I've purchased my current acoustic and electric lineup from Guitar Center (GC), mostly for pricing, inventory, and convenience; I have absolutely no loyalty to the chain. During the 2020 pandemic lockdowns, I bought a lovely Seagull acoustic guitar from GC. Prior to the purchase, I spoke to a sales associate from the Castleton store via telephone. He provided friendly and useful information. While I ordered online, the sales experience was great. I'd love to brag about how much I love the instrument, but my love comes from Seagull's quality Canadian craftsmanship - not GC. Recently, I decided it was time to upgrade my electric guitar, so I headed to the Castleton store for a look. Upon entering the store, I wasn't greeted by anyone, and it took 10 minutes of browsing before a salesperson began helping me. As I planned for a fairly expensive purchase, I would have expected better. The following day, I decided to buy the Les Paul I'd seen the previous afternoon. When I returned, staff members were running pell-mell around the store; there was nothing that resembled organization or order. When I decided to ask questions regarding an amplifier, I wasn't treated very well. In fact, the staff member acted like he was doing me a favor by talking to me. I was very happy when the sales experience was completed. GC in Castleton needs improvement. Customers, by and large, are making expensive purchases at this store. It matters. read more

I have walked out of there spending $0 because the employees lied to me about equipment, didn't know how to demo equipment, and didn't know their return Policy. At this guitar center 8 times out of ten I'm usually more knowledgeable than the employees. I literally once "made the sale" to another costumer looking for a good acoustic to learn on. In contrast though the last purchase I made was an mpc one and the sales person in that department was very knowledgeable and willing to discuss other production ideas and methods. He was a younger person and I produce in an older way. Him talking and listening to me and taking the time to SHOW me the mpc one and live was the determining factor on my decision to purchase that day. My main advice about guitar center though is check your purchase because several times they have sold me open box items as if they were new and didn't tell me. read more

I was really disappointed with my experience at this location today. My coworker and I dropped in midweek, early afternoon when there were maybe 4-5 other customers in the store. We came in prepared to place a large instrument order today on behalf of our employer, but we wanted to test some midi controllers that were on display first. When an associate asked if we had any questions, and we responded with.. with questions, he replied "well I don't have time to teach you but if you want to play something I can try to set it up for you, but I don't really have much time because I have to check on other customers too." ....alright, guy. So you just can't really be bothered right now. You're busy, I get it. Maybe you're the only guy covering this section of the store today. Maybe it's just a bad day for you, whatever -- but I didn't ask you for a music lesson, I asked you to plug in a keyboard for us to test out before we buy it (and several other instruments). That's fine though, we went across the street to Music Go Round where an associate was friendly and happy to have our business, and we found great deals on a midi controller, keyboards, drums, and several guitars. If you're planning a trip to Guitar Center, I would recommend skipping that trip and hopping on over to Music Go Round instead. read more

Guitar Center as a company has gotten a lot of my money. I enjoy shopping here. Lots of cool guitars and other musical gear to look at. However, I was extremely disappointed when I picked up my guitar today after a setup. The D-Tuna was sticky, and I had asked them to take a look at it when I had dropped it off, and they hadn't even touched it. Also, the bridge was just as filthy as it was when I dropped it off. I basically paid them $60 to change the strings and clean the fretboard. I could have done that myself. I do give them credit for addressing the above issues when I brought them to their attention. Still, I feel they were sloppy and negligent. It's a cool place to shop, but I will go elsewhere the next time I need my guitar serviced. read more

I've recently decided to learn how to play the guitar and so I went shopping for my first guitar here (7/8). There was a decent selection of acoustic guitars suited for a beginner for decent prices. The staff was friendly and really helpful with any questions that I had! I was eyeing a guitar that was on display and was on sale. I really wanted it but the action was quite high for me so I was reluctant to get it because my boyfriend would've had to sand down and decrease the action himself which he wasn't comfortable doing. I didn't want to pay $50 extra for the whole set-up, I just wanted the action lowered. However, an employee checked in the back to see if they had more of the guitar I wanted and they did have a brand new one, still in the box. The action was much better and since it wasn't on display, it wasn't banged up. I appreciate the employee for looking for something I was satisfied with. I couldn't catch his name but he had glasses and long hair. In the end, I came home with my first guitar that I was happy with that was 50% off it's original price. read more

Guitar Center is considered the primary chain of Guitar Stores in the U.S.A. When I visited Guitar Center I have to admit I excepted more there, but they still had a large selection of guitars and other musical equipment. The acoustic room is very grand and they have a large selection of acoustic guitars in there as well as acoustic amplifiers. The used section was bare with very few guitars inhabiting the area. But the worst thing of all was that almost every guitar was locked up! I could not stand having to ask to play every guitar there. And when I went to try out the Jimmy Page dragon Telecaster, it was not even setup. It had super high action and a dry fretboard. I bought some picks and the main checkout are was packed so one of the employees nicely brought us to check out in the drums department. Overall Guitar center was underwhelming but the employees were friendly. read more

My three year old son loves drums and guitars so we decided to stop into guitar center for a mini-shed session. He was able to mount different drum kits and play to his heart was content. The staff was so kind and answered questions regarding pricing within moments. The store itself was very well-kept, persons are able to navigate the floor with ease - including those who may have wheelchairs. The quick trip was like a wonderland for my now three y/o & now that I know they sell beautiful djembe drums at such a reasonable price, I'm looking forward to going back so that I may add to his collection. read more

This used to be my go to place for selection and price. Not anymore. I went in there yesterday when they first opened. There was one customer in pro audio renting some equipment. We stood there for 5 minutes and the sales rep never even acknowledged our existence. No "hello" I'll be right with you." Nothing. So I went into he speaker room to compare some subs and tops I wanted to purchase. But there we no prices on the 5 different speakers I looked at! So I could do absolutely NOTHING until I had a rep to help me. I walked back into the other room only to find myself now 5th in line. And of course the first guy in line bought the last audio interface they had that I wanted. Finally another guy showed up and it was my turn. I asked to see an alternate item but it had been opened and every bag in the box was opened. I asked if they had a new one and he said he had to go in the back to look and disappeared. There was a new one sitting there on the shelf where he grabbed the first one. We told the other guy working and he paged the other guy and let him know. But he never came back. So now there's a room full of people waiting to be helped. I've got a huge list of stuff I need to see and price. I went there fully intending to buy: 2 QSC 12.2 2000 watt speakers 2 EV 1200 watt subs 1 Behringer S16 digital stage snake 1 Focusrite 2 channel audio interface 1 SKB 8 space rolling rack 1 61 key midi controller (undecided on brand) Easily a $4000 sale. And that's no BS! I ordered all of it from AMS and it will be here TOMORROW. (Except for the s16. I'm hoping somebody locally has it.) Guitar Center, your service and selection have now put you completely out of consideration for future purchases. After nearly 20 years of shopping your store and tens of thousands of dollars in studio and stage equipment purchased, you have gotten every penny out of me you will ever get. read more

Oh my god, get me out of here! My ole man and I stopped in here because he needed a few things for a drum kit he's putting together. The staff didn't seem terribly helpful. They were very friendly, though- And pretty nonchalant. I felt sorry for the guy in the drum room. I started to have a mini panic attack from all the ruckus. He was pretty honest with another customer that he wouldn't get much of anything for a ride that he was wanting to sell to GC. He told him he'd have better luck on Ebay. It was nice that he was honest with this guy. Upon leaving, we were talking about how we wouldn't be able to handle that job. The guy at the door talked to us about it for a bit. He was pretty friendly. The staff was friendly enough, and they seemed to get along well, and that makes for a good work environment, but damn... This must be the worst guitar center in the USA! I just walked out (just now May 7th and 4:45 pm) after waiting 10 minutes to get assistance to PURCHASE a wireless headset. Yep they just lost a sale because of the unwillingness to even acknowledge me; let alone ask me if I needed something. But typically if someone is standing at a counter for close to 10 minutes they might want to buy something. The salesman was looking directly at me while carrying on a conversation with another customer that was clearly not buying anything. The conversation was about how he "the salesman" goes online to buy things cheaper than here as well. Wow! Really?! If I was the manager I would fire him on the spot! The other clerk that was working the microphone desk ignored me to the point where he had to walk around me, almost into me because I was looking at the mics and it was blocking his way out behind the counter. He didn't acknowledge me or say he would be right with me, or even say excuse me...after walking past me two times. Again I was waiting for almost 10 minutes. Unbelievably unprofessional and RUDE. I spend thousand on sound equipment with my business each year and am producing a 7 month live entertainment gig here in Indianapolis. Let's just say i will go to Radio Shack before I come back here! Or maybe I'll just do what the salesman said and go on eBay or Amazon and find it cheaper. Who needs a big store with expensive rent and employees that don't know how to help customers anyway. Worst experience "trying" to trade a$1500.00 guitar for one of lesser value due to the style of music I play. First off, they immediately explained that I would be receiving 40% of the value ( a value that they were determining ) and they would receive 60% of the value. The manager pawned me off on a young employee, because he was busy. As soon as I opened the HSC and he glanced at the guitar, he immediately butted in and started nit picking the guitar. I had looked this guitar on the usual sites, reverb, eBay and blue book of guitar values and was prepared to take 25% to 30% less as I know GC is in the business to make a profit. The guy I assumed was the manager started telling me the pickups were not original, the trem was changed out blah blah blah.... BS. This guitar is original and perfect condition other then binging had a small lose binding where the headstock and neck intersect on the neck, nothing some glue couldn't easily fix. Doesn't GC also have a repair department??? This guy was acting like a backlot sleazy used car salesman. When he finally gave me a price ($300.00) in trade value I laughed, closed the case and walked out never to return. I have over 50 guitars guitars in my collection. Some $3000.00 customs and some $300.00 beaters, so I've been around guitars all my life. This idiot shouldn't be dealing with customers. GC used to be a decent place to view and buy equipment, but look at the Indy store reviews and it doesn't take long to see it's hit the skids. Moral of the story. I went 2 blocks over to the Sam Ash store and was treated extremely well. I was offered $650.00 in trade, I didn't make a trade but I did buy $300.00 in accessories and parts. That's the difference between customer service at Sam Ash and the low brow, low handed tactics of Guitar Center. read more

I saw they listed a used 21" sub online in excellent condition so I called them and told them to hook it up for me so I can test it when I get there since it's a 1 hour drive. I got there 2 hours later and he didn't have them hooked up and they were beat to hell with a list price $200 more than new on GuitarCenter.com and $500 more than anywhere else. I said there's no way I'm paying $500 more than what I can get it for new so he talked to the manager and they said they would go down to new price.. REALLY!? Guitar Center is required to price match new speakers but you can't even price match a used speaker to the amount I can get it for new somewhere else!? After about an hour waiting for him to hook it up he refuses to go past half volume. If I'm going to pay $1500 for an overpriced piece of junk you better be maxxing it out. He said they didn't do the research when buying them and paid too much but couldn't lose any money on them.. Um tough luck. You made a mistake that's not my problem. I asked to see other new speakers and he said there was none even though there was a full room with hundreds across the store and I stood there waiting for almost 2 more hours and left because nobody would help me and test them so I went to Ash Music down the road and spent a couple grand there because they hooked all of them up and switched from one to another. Jack doesn't know JACK and should be fired along with a Manager step down. Worthless store full of uneducated employees *Update* Guitar Center reps contacted me saying they would make things right and would get back to me the next day after talking to management of the store. 2 weeks later and NOTHING. Getting the equipment I need in a short amount of time is absolutely crucial and all they did was ruin future events that cost me money by making false promises! AVOID! read more

An associate, I think his name was Andrew, was without a doubt the creepiest dude I've ever dealt with at a music shop. He just made me extremely uncomfortable the entire time I was there. I won't ever go back if he is still working there. There is was this tall guy with long hair and glasses who was kind of a jerk. I asked a simple question which he refused to answer because he had "other customers to attend to" then that Andrew guy came over and just really made me uncomfortable and creeped me out completely. My wife was with me and he just kept staring at her and his voice kept cracking every time he spoke. It was totally bizzare. There was some skinny blonde girl there too and she basically just ignored me completely. This place has really started to go downhill lately. They should be more attentive when hiring associates. read more
