I love...love....love Reno's Music. It is an extremely unique guitar store. It is not like all the big box stores where all the merchandise is displayed and can be played by anyone who walks in. They keep a huge inventory of Martin guitars, from standards to incredible custom shop offerings. The first time I went in there I was looking for a CEO-7, which I bought, but I also ended up with a custom OM and put a custom shop dreadnaught on lay away. What is unique about Reno's is that they keep almost all their inventory in the original shipping boxes in their warehouse. That may sound odd, but it keeps the guitars in their best possible condition, so when you buy a guitar you are getting a truly NEW guitar and not a floor demo that 100 other people have banged on. I thought it was odd when I first went there, but a dozen or so guitars later...I appreciate the way they run the business. Whenever I wanted to demo a guitar, they get it out and make sure I don't have belt buckles and buttons that are going to scratch the guitar. Some might consider that overbearing, but it assures that the guitars stay in pristine condition. I have been going in there so long..I just prep ahead of time. Mark Rohrer and his dad "Reno" are super great to do business with. Their pricing is the best you are going to find and they value trades fairly...keep in mind they run a business and they need to make some money too. It's funny, I have read some of the negative reviews and they seem to dwell on two things. Firs the size of the place...well not having to pay for a billion square foot facility allows them to inventory more and far better gear than you will find at your big box stores. Good luck finding the variety of amazing custom Martins that Reno's keeps everyday. The other complaint I read is that the staff is aloof.,,,could not be any less true. My first visit was kind of odd to me. I also was used to the traditional music store where you walk in and it is loud and bright and flashy. I could tell that Mark was cautious with his inventory and watched me, but that is because they really do care about the quality and condition of the guitars they sell. These are not $200 imports that you get at GC. In the two years I have been going to this store..almost weekly, I have developed a true friendship with Mark and been invited into a community of other people who are passionate about acoustic instruments and music. We gather almost every Saturday and nerd out for four to five hours, sometimes going out for lunch afterwards. I would say most of those days they don't even sell a guitar, but they open up the shop so those of us with a love of Martin and music can hang and do some show and tell. Anyone says that the owners and especially Mark are not good people are way off base and just haven't taken the time to get to know him and Reno. This is Indy's best place to buy Martin, Boucher (new outlet), Hozen and Eastman guitars period, paragraph!!! I would tell you to totally ignore anyone who says differently...they just had a different perception of what a good music store is. Thank you Mark and Reno for giving us such a cool place in Indy!! I've been shopping at Reno's for about 5 years. I've bought, traded, consigned, and tested dozens of instruments here, and this is, hands down, the best music store you will find anywhere. In an industry filled with used car salesmen and worse, Mark and Reno are solid, honest, cool people. They are fair and honest in everything they do. I walked into the shop in 2020, a total newbie, and Mark walked me through my options on both Martin guitars and Eastman mandolins, let me try whatever I wanted, and gave me honest opinions on the right things to buy for my skill level. If I want something, the deals are fair. If I consign something, it sells quickly. Plus, I'm a better musician because of Mark. What higher compliment can you make about a music shop? I moved out of Indy a few years ago. I still do most of my business with Reno's because almost every other shop I've tried pales in comparison. Let me put the whiny reviews in context: Yeah, it's not a flashy space with a bunch of Squiers and Epiphones on the wall; it's a dealer to top end acoustic instruments, and they know their instruments. If you want to look at 1,000 bright red electric guitars on the wall, go somewhere else. And yeah, they are careful with just letting any rando walk in and bang around on $5,000 instruments. Here's a hint - if you are going to drop thousands of dollars on an instrument, wouldn't you want that level of care? Mark doesn't pander to you and he won't pressure you to buy something. I purchased a HD28 Martin from Reno's. I was searching for a high end Martin and Guitar Center didn't have a good selection. They recommended I try Reno's. At first I thought I was in the wrong place. The building was pretty plain and unlike most music stores. But man do they have an extensive inventory. Mark greeted me as soon as I entered I felt immediately welcomed. He asked what I was looking for and brought out a few guitars to try out. Had a great conversation with him. It was an excellent experience. If you expect to have a Guitar Center experience, you're going to be disappointed. Mark is very experienced and wants you to get exactly what you are looking for. He didn't pressure me or follow me around trying to earn a commission. He took time to learn a little about me and made excellent recommendations. I highly recommended Reno's Music. I love this place. Mark is such a solid dude. This was my first high end guitar purchase and I was very nervous. There wasn't a bad question for him and he let me try several guitars in my price range and ended up giving me a great deal! I started to look into another purchase recently and figured why not check out the big names in Nashville like Carters and Gruhn. Pretty inventory to look at but I could quickly tell I was nobody to them unless I had 5-10k to spend. When it comes time, I'll stay in my backyard and go to Mark. I ended up buying one of his lesser priced D-28's, but he made me feel comfortable and created an environment that showed me there is only one place for me to go from now on. Reno's! read more

Reno's is my favorite guitar shop in Indiana. Discovered the shop about 5 years ago and have since purchased 6 high end acoustics. Their inventory is always incredible and they are constantly getting in new and used guitars. Mark is great to work with. He treats you right. He is friendly, knowledgeable, and about as low pressure of a salesman as I have ever met. The shop is different from many other guitar stores, because the majority of the guitars are not kept on the showroom floor. Instead, you tell them what inventory you want to check out and they pull it straight out of the cases in the back for you to try. I am lucky enough to live in Indy and I have been going to Reno's Music for years. They have a ton of high end guitars, including dozens of high end Martins. I saw another review said that they kept all their guitars boxed up in the back. Yes they do. I assume that is to keep them fresh and safe in their cases, in their humidity controlled environment. Unlike guitar center where all of their Martins are cracked with fret sprout. I recently traded in/traded up to a custom shop HD-28. I always leave feeling like I got such a good deal. Mark is very friendly and knowledgeable and he genuinely what's you to leave with a great deal and a great guitar. I won't purchase an acoustic guitar anywhere else. read more

Reno's is a high end guitar store with the best selection of Martin guitars among other brands in Indiana. Some reviewers apparently think they should be allowed to walk into the store and pull any of the expensive guitars off the wall and just have at it. I for one appreciate that this cannot be done because nobody wants to buy a guitar scratched by some lookey-loo. All you need do is call Mark and he will set you up to play any guitar you are interested in buying. To the one star reviewers I say it's your attitude that is the problem and not Reno's. I took guitar lessons at Reno's several years ago for quite some time. Every employee from the instructors (which I'm assuming were independent) to Mark (who was usually behind the counter, but greeted me with a warm welcome every week when it was time for my lesson) were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful when it came to guitars or any instrument Reno's carried. I've been around the entire Indianapolis metro area, and there's not one guitar shop that compares to Reno's. Mark is kind, knowledgeable, and won't push you to make a purchase. The selection of high end Martins is unparalleled in the area, and Mark often travels to the Martin factory in PA just to choose select pieces of wood.
