For some reason my vision has been getting a little "questionable." I can see well during the day but at night it's a different story. After DPS decided to place a restriction on my license for corrective lenses I thought I might as well go get my vision checked. I found a living social deal for this place so I bought it and made my appointment. Everyone there was very nice and my appointment went very smoothly. I was in and out probably in 20-25 minutes. The eye doctor was very sweet and even told me about her trip to my country some time before. It turns out that my prescription changed so I needed new glasses, which I expected. I wasn't thrilled with their selection but I found some frames that weren't horrible. I ended up paying $198 over the $50 Living Social Voucher I had purchased. Overall my experience wasn't too bad. I really liked this place. The optometrist is really nice and takes the time to explain to you everything. Staff is also very nice. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because this place is only good if you have insurance or money. I brought my mom, who doesn't have insurance, and the price for the eye exam and the glasses came out to be very high. They did try to work with us and lower the price but at the end it was still high. But as for me since I have insurance, I had no issue paying because the insurance covered a lot. read more

On 4/26/2023, the merchant told me they were going to be issuing me a rebate; however, the one they tried to give me had expired on 12/22. When I pointed this out, they had already charged my card and promised to call and email me the unexpired rebate the next day and that I should be receiving my contacts by the end of the week at the latest (4/28). I called them on 4/27 to inquire about the rebate, and they told me they are still trying to get ahold of the manufacturer to provide me with their rebate. Then 4/28 comes and passes and I still have not gotten my contacts. I give it some time and finally call on 5/10 to inquire about where they are and if I can get some shipping information to know when to expect them to arrive. They told me they will have to call the manufacturer to get the shipping information and will call me back in 10 minutes to provide me with that information. I wait a whole hour before calling again on the same day 5/10. I get the same exact run around about how they have to call the manufacturer and they will have to call me back. At this point, I am irritated and tell them they told me that last time and never called me back, but they assure me they will call me back. There is no more I can do, so I let them call the manufacturer. They never called me back, and I waited until mid-day on 5/11 to call them again. They tell me AGAIN that they will have to call the manufacturer, and this time instead of hanging up, they put me on a 25-minute hold before I have a chance to protest until they finally hang up on me. Once I've been hung up on, I call them 4 times again before someone finally picks up, and I tell them I am tired of the runaround and just want a refund so I can buy my contacts elsewhere because I just want to be able to see at this point, and they refuse. read more

Got a really horrible exp. with this vision center. I came there last month for an eye exam and ordered a new pair of glasses as my eyes were not good anymore. The receptionist guy told me my glasses should be done in 5 - 7 business days, so I came home and wait. 15 business days later (about 3 weeks), I got a call from them saying the glasses were ready to pick up. A bit late, but thats okay, they might have got a lot of customers. Came there on a Tuesday evening. Ugh, they are closed. Their "new schedule" on the windows saying they were open Tuesdays, so I called them, and yes they were closed Tuesdays but still, why didn't they replace that opening hour sheet? My bad. Stopped by the next day (Wednesday.) The same receptionist guy greeted me, and when I told him that I came for my glasses, he went in and got out with nothing at hands blaming somebody might have taken my glasses back to the lab in Houston, and he got to call them to check. Once again, he told me that my glasses would be there to pick up the day after AND he would (again!) give me a call when they are ready. I waited over the weekend until the following week wondering why it took so long to get my glasses done. After a week, on Wednesday, the guy working at Gulf Vision called me telling me my eye glasses were "finally ready," so I came there again for the third time to pick em up. I arrived and waited for 30 minutes, and that receptionist guy told me one of the lenses just popped out, so he had to fix it really quick. I asked him how long, he told me I could get back there in 2 hours. =.= Hm.... Thats really something. I didnt think that I ordered a frame and lenses. I ordered a pair of glasses people! But well, I already started this negative review on Yelp, so I said okay. He called me later telling my glasses were "all sturdy and good now to pick up." Soooo I came there again hoping everything could be okay. And there I was, waiting for another 15 mins for that guy to pop in those lenses. They fell out before I got em. He apologized and told me if I would like he could brought back my glasses to that freaking lab in Houston so they could fix them. ... I just said thank you, that's almost a month for a pair of glasses, oh no, I mean for a set of lenses and a frame, and now you want me to waste more time on these glasses? I brought them home and fixed them myself (I'm studying engineering so fixing these glasses is not that big of a deal!). They are fine now but hey, am I supposed to resemble my frame and lenses every time I buy new glasses? Ugh. No. Never again will I trust this Gulf Vision. Never. Sorry, but your service SUCKS. I usually dont give bad reviews but this Gulf Vision really deserve this. read more

I don't have vision insurance so I purchased a groupon eye exam for $53 with a $150 credit towards my purchase. I bought new frames with scratch and glare resistance.. The representative in the front I think his name was David helped me find the right frames that complimented my face and was very nice. The Doctor was very knowledgeable and very nice to me as well. They both explained to me in depth the procedure of the eye exam and what they were screening/testing for. They answered all questions . the turn around time for my order was 4 business days. I was a new patient going in and needed my vision checked asap. Staff was able to work with my schedule to make that happen. Staff explained some discounts they offer which is always a plus. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Let me be clear. When I say staff I mean everyone but the doctor. The doctor here was rude, got annoyed with me when I couldn't see clearly out of her dirty, blurry, prescription equipment and also told me which ones I should see clearer out of instead of listening to what I was saying. It also took nearly 4 hours to finish my appointment. With there being, from what I could tell, only one doctor, it took forever to be seen. My appointment was set for 12pm and I was not seen until 1pm. The only reason this place is not getting 1 star is because the rest of the staff, as I said previously, were very kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Will not be making Gulfgate Vision my go to vision place. read more

So, im a reviews & star type of person so that's why i chose to come to Gulfgate Vision after searching. I gave them a call & scheduled my appointment with no issues. Another staff member called me about 20 minutes later to "confirm" my appointment after i had just booked. Fast forward to appointment day...i spent almost 4 hours in the office even after i scheduled an appointment. I noticed that they were a bit unorganized & slightly not that welcoming. Also the office had a small stinch. My eye sight is pretty shot but when i took my exam the doctor kept saying that my eyesight wasn't that bad which is a lie. After my exam, i chose about 4 pair of frames & fell in love with one. They have red & green dot discounted frames but they tell you how much the discount is...shady. Super expensive. I found frames that were marked $99 along with two of the same styles but different colors & one of the staff members said "oh that must be a mistake" so $99 turned into $249???? Yes, i am insured. They also kept trying to sell me contacts which i am not a fan. They were covered with my insurance so they gave me a trial pack & had me put them on before i left the office. I could not see a thing out of my contacts after one of the staff members told me he had to get the doc to run test on me to be fitted with the right contacts..but she never did...i guess she just played it by ear. Side note for people who actually care about where they use their insurance for great eyesight..don't be fooled by the good ratings they give you an "extra discount" if you review them!!! The people here were friendly, but I was told the cost would be $30 with my copay. It turned out to be over $80 (for the appointment) because I was fitted for contacts with astigmatism. I'm tired of deliberately asking on the phone for confirmation regarding the cost, and then having the bill go up substantially with hidden fees. Why are patients with astigmatism being charged more for a contact fitting anyway? I applied the contacts, the Dr. examined them with a light, and that was it. The procedure seems to be identical to what a patient without astigmatism would experience. ETA: I also had to go elsewhere to get glasses/contacts because at the time of this review, the office is only open on Tuesdays. No one on staff made me aware of this. read more

This place is so packed because they are extremely slow. The forms that you need to complete are laminated so they keep reusing them. They are all nasty full of germs. Not to mention they small waiting area not enough seats. So I noticed a lot of good reviews. Of course since they want you to do this promo on Facebook before being seen to get a discount. We we waited over 1hr and half. The staff is not very friendly but the Doctor is the worst she looks like she is going to stab you in the back. You are better of going somewhere else. read more

I received an offer from Amazon Local for a $50 eye exam for Gulfgate Vision and i needed an exam badly. Like most wise people I decided to read their reviews. They weren't great, but I figured they were from last year (things change) and it was near me, so I took a chance. BIG, HUGE, GIGANTIC mistake. Business is very slow and it should've been a sign. They're staff is not only unknowledgable, but unprofessional and rude. I waited for what seemed like 2 hours just for my exam, only to find the $50 deal is just a scam to get you there. I was hit with $179 extra just for the exam. I had no other option since I had already wasted my time and purchased my glasses. Well here it is a month later and no glasses, no answers, no follow up on my many requests for any response. You get what you pay for I guess. read more

I've used this place on a couple different occasions and every time, I've been treated amazing by not only the doctor but also the people at the front desk. I went in today because I broke my frames and I had warranty on them, 25 bucks to replace my pretty expensive frames is awesome. On top of that, I mentioned I wanted to order contact lenses since my prescription is still valid but told him I was fresh out. He told me I was able to get a trial pair if I ordered from there. I told him that would be amazing but I had found them 15 less a box online. Their price was 45 a box, I found them for 29.66. He ended up price matching the website, on top of not having to pay shipping, and he also got me the pair of trial contacts, a case, and some solution. Walked out being able to see and in a few short days, il have a years worth of contacts and my frames fixed! read more
