I'm surprised I haven't rated Gullivers on Yelp yet because I've been there several times over the years. Gullivers is one of those great places that has been around as long as you can remember but the high quality of service and the excellent food always stay the same. I have been here with a family event as well as here twice for work events at Christmas time. Most recently we were here on a Sunday afternoon for patio dining at all though it was the first time I've ever had a meal outside here, rather than in the much more traditional dining room, everything with us is good as always and this is definitely the best place to go for prime rib in OC. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. I loved every aspect to it including the scenery and the atmosphere of this restaurant. This place has a very romantic vibe completed with a romantic candlelight. On the inside it looks like an old English pub and it will transport you to England. I ordered the prime rib at the restaurant and it was amazing. It was very juicy and the sides that comes with it which is the spinach and the cream corn was just perfect. Although, this place is a little bit pricey, it is worth it. I had not been at this restaurant for over 20 years but was invited by a friend last night to dine at the place. I love the old fashioned elegant decor which has been vanishing fast in the eatery scene. Our waitress was pleasant and menu selection was good at a reasonable price in today's standard. I ordered a standard prime rib at medium rare but got one at medium well instead. I didn't return it since it was still edible albeit chewy for a prime rib. The dish was otherwise tasty. It was strange that mashed instead of baked potato bead offered. Even without having been overcooked, the meat quality was sub prime in my view. I would like to see a few traditional places to stay in business but unfortunately the quality of food has declined significantly in nearly all of the restaurants since COVID. read more

Started dinner with utensils having food already embedded onto them, I definitely like a free appetizer just not when it comes pre-packed on the utensils ! The quality of the cream corn has tanked- they are definitely using much lower quality ingredients when making it! The corn used to be our favorite but not it's a solid disappointment! When server arrived you could hear them arguing that the rare and medium rare where the exact same and the head waitress said just serve it to them anyway. Had to beg for water every time and even had to send one water back as it had something black floating in it ? All around a very poor experience for a higher end restaurant and don't think I would recommend any family going back! It's beginning to be rundown and dirty with the owners seemingly not caring to invest or clean properly, even the restroom had the smell of a gas station restroom and debris all over the floor. Very dark and outdated. We got there about 10 till 5, with a 5 o'clock reservation. The person who "greeted" us said, "You'll be sat at exactly 5 not a minute sooner." Which I found rather odd especially since the restaurant was far from busy. Be careful sitting down the chairs are not only old and tattered but very unsteady!! They had no children's menus available, someone apparently forgot to get them printed. We were told the only kid choices were chicken strips, kids prime rib, or grilled cheese sandwich, and ordered accordingly, though later found out there were other things available. My prime rib was not warm, cream spinach was not creamy, forget the fact we weren't even asked if we wanted appetizers, salad, or soup, let alone dessert. Came back here recently and finally decided to dine in after only ordering take out due to the pandemic. Was skeptical at first seeing that most establishments are understaffed and have degrading quality in service and food; however, not Gulliver's! Upon entry, we were greeted by the hostess who was personable and friendly! She sat us down immediately and the staffs immediately brought out water and bread for us. Our server was Tony and he was just as friendly and professional as all the other servers I've encountered at Gulliver's! Tony took care of all my requests, including getting me some additional Cream Corn, Au Jus, and the real horseradish. He also made us felt really comfortable and offered us some parenting experience, seeing that my wife was pregnant with our first child. All the staff members here were also diligent and friendly. Including the bartender (owner?), who walked around the dining area and made sure we were all taken care of. I've always ordered the Brob. because it's the largest cut and I'll always have leftovers for some steak and egg for next day breakfast. The prime rib was cooked to perfection, perfect medium rare with no blood. After dousing it with the savory au jus paired with the real horseradish (spicier with a kick, not the creamed one), each bite becomes absolutely heavenly. Gulliver's has always been my go-to for my prime rib cravings. Everything has remained 5 stars - 5 star service, 5 star prime rib quality. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. read more

My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try this place out for a while and we are so happy we did! We were helped out by Dennis--who was so funny, knowledgeable, and kind. From the moment we walked in I was awed by the fall decor. And Dennis said they are still adding a lot more, so I can't wait to see it closer to Halloween. The food was also delicious. We had the crab cakes to start (ate them too fast, so not pictured). I had the salmon and my boyfriend had the prime rib. We also had Brussel sprouts and creamed corn as sides. Our family loves Gulliver's! The food Is always amazing, with my personal favorite being their filet and cream corn! The service is wonderful too and they are always very attentive. It's especially fun to come to Gulliver's during the holidays too because they go all out with decorating the restaurant!! We were just there with some friends towards the end of October and it is amazing with all of fun Halloween/fall decor throughout the restaurant! Then at Christmas time, it's just beautiful with so much detail to take in again!! It really puts you in the spirit for the holidays. I really can't believe how bad the food was, I expected better quality from this place. We had 4 dinners and only one was eatable. The dinners actually tasted like leftovers, we should of known something was up when our food was delivered within about 5 minutes ! We had 3 appetizers that had to be sent back cause they were cold. I think the last time we came to Gulliver's was 35+ years ago. I remember the best meat and loved the creamed spinach..... well, there you go.... The only good part of the meal tonight was the prime rib and the filet mignon, which ended up being $190+. The creamed corn, creamed spinach and Yorkshire Pudding had massive amounts to be desired. Almost mid evil times kind of food. My husband dislikes spinach, and now I dislike it as well...... The place was pretty empty which should have been our first clue. They still had all of their Christmas decor up and the semi conscious Santa in the phone booth could have been seriously disturbing. Best ever and HIGHLY recommend! Celebrated our 9 year wedding anniversary this evening and couldn't be happier to have included Gulliver's in the occasion! I see some spicy reviews here regarding the outdated decor and older crowd- pish posh! This restaurant is so unique and OWNS its authenticity. I'm embarrassed that I had never heard of it until recently (when I Googled "Best old school restaurants in OC"). For context, we have traditionally celebrated at Sir Winston's on The Queen Mary which is not currently open and we wanted a similar vibe closer to home here in Orange County. So happy Gulliver's popped up! :) We were greeted so kindly by (I believe) the manager- friendly and even wished us a happy anniversary upon arrival! He seated us at the perfect table and we were promptly greeted by our server Tony. Tony was fabulous! Super nice and offered genuine congrats on our anniversary- like, he was a really nice guy. The busboy (??? ... he deserves a title more like Mr. Awesome) was quick with water refills and dish pick ups. Ugh- wish I got his name too so I could give kudos! Regardless, all dishes were perfectly timed and delivered with smiles! The foooooood.... Best steak (filet mignon) I've ever had! Ordered medium rare and cooked to perfection with the best Béarnaise sauce in all the land. Creamed corn was worth the hype, lobster was delicious, sides were amazing... and then they treated us with a complimentary trifle and even lit candles! Come on, y'all! Old school is an understatement when it comes to Gulliver's. The restaurant is without a doubt decades older than I am. The aged and outdated interior itself is proof and from the looks of it, even the servers seem to have been around since they opened. No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The novelty is in fact quite charming. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the service that made me feel like I was in some cheap buffet in Vegas. The food, too was almost inedible. One bite of the SAUTEED SCALLOPS ($15.25) and I knew it was under cooked and not fresh. The CRAB STUFFED MUSHROOMS ($14.95) were terrible to say the least. Thankfully, the warm sour dough bread which was on the house made up for the starters. Ordering the SEAFOOD LINGUINE ($26.95) was a mistake with its mushy strands of pasta, chunks of seafood we barely touched for fear of food poisoning, and an overall unpleasant flavor profile. I should've known better considering PRIME RIB ($37.95) is their specialty here. That said, the medium cooked slab of meat was pedestrian at best. Don't get me started with the YORKSHIRE PUDDING which was foul tasting. I could care less for the CREAMED SPINACH though the CREAMED CORN on the other hand was everyone's favorite here. Overpriced and very underwhelming... it was my first time here. The gentleman at the front was very nice and the decorations were lovely but there was no music, service was subpar and the overall vibe was an unwarranted stuffy and unwelcoming. The servers were working as a "team" but it was not received as such from our perspective. There was no communication between them, providing conflicting guidance on the menu. We had to order a few items several times because they weren't bringing it and then we were charged multiple times for it. They brought us an appetizer that we didn't order and then charged us for it. In addition, they got my entree order wrong after several exchanges for clarification. Ultimately the food was fine but so overpriced and nothing I would rush back for. I was really looking forward to a relaxing and festive night but we left feeling upset. Had an awful lunch experience here. Visited with colleagues, but the place was cramped, and there was a shortage of staff. Requested a seat change due to an uncomfortable spot near the kitchen; however, the waiter who assisted us complained loudly while rearranging the table. It took the server more than 10 minutes to show up. Despite addressing the issue with the manager, the service improved only after a delay in lunch. As we were ready to pay, the previously irate server suddenly tried to be kind, even speaking Mandarin-like words, despite our non-Chinese background. Despite clarifying our nationality, the recurring behavior felt like racial discrimination. The $300 spent on this lunch was the most regrettable, and I have no plans to return or recommend it. Had our work holiday party here earlier this week and it was a great time! They accommodated our group of 15 people no problem. The holiday decor is so well-done inside, it's very festive and worth coming for dinner during December. Food was very good, big portion sizes. The pear martinis were delicious, but don't waste your time on the old fashioned...it's not good. Disclaimer: I came here for my company's holiday party, so my experience may be different from the average person's sit down dine in experience. First let's get the bad out of the way - the parking situation is pretty awful. Not sure if it's because it shares its lot with another restaurant, or if it just gets packed during lunch time, but the parking lot was absolutely full when we went around 12pm on a Friday. We had to resort to parking on the street & at the IHOP lot across the street. Onto the restaurant itself - the theme & atmosphere closely resembles a old-timey German style pub, with the waitresses dressed in outfits you would see at an Oktoberfest. Service was fine for the most part with the waitresses being friendly & checking in often. The dining room we were seated in was separate from the main restaurant & also had a group of bell players playing Christmas carols which was pretty cool. Food itself was good but nothing special. Now since it was a company party, everyone was served a three-course meal consisting of baby mesclun greens (salad), beef prime rib, & English trifle for dessert. Salad was alright, a little too vinegary for my taste. Prime rib was the best, cooked medium rare & really juicy, although some small parts of it were a little dry. The English trifle was disappointing, texture was too dry for my liking but I'm assuming that's just how sponge cake is. If you're looking for an interesting experience in a unique atmosphere you might want to check this place out. My wife and I had our Thanksgiving dinner with two of our friends. The four of us decided to go with the 28-day aged Prime Rib since that is the specialty of the restaurant and we traditionally go out on Thanksgiving to have prime rib instead of turkey. Our server was Mario. He was very attentive and we were very happy with his service. The prime rib, though, was a bit disappointing. It came out looking perfectly the way medium rare should be and the serving was generous. However, it was not as tender as I expected a 28-day aged prime rib should be. It also had some chewy parts with a lot of tendon that was a bit challenging to chew on. I did not say anything thinking it was just the part that I happened to get. But then one of our friends said the same thing. This was our first time at Gulliver's. I am surprised that we had a disappointing experience considering that the Prime Rib is their specialty.
