A great place off the beaten path for homey bbq and fried fish. We had the ribs ( pretty good) and the brisket (awesome). Excellent bbq sauce! The Brunswick Stew tasted good but had a different consistency than usual, more puréed, which we did enjoy as much. Next time we will have to try the fish and the chicken. Tea was good. Catfish, what they're known for, was also good. Fries tasty. However, my tilapia was a little tough (perhaps not fried fresh?) and my butterfly shrimp were cold. We were not given white bread which I believe is the norm. Gumlog BBQ is really awesome. I highly recommend the rack of BBQ Ribs, but I can't say the same for their stew which is nasty and should be avoided. We asked for a refund and were told "Sorry, not our policy". This made us scratch our heads. This policy is the only reason for the 4 stars because everything else was good. read more

Checked out Gumlog on the recommendation of a local friend while camping nearby at Tugaloo State Park. The food we got was not great although my ribs, while nothing to write home about, were fine. Portions and prices overall are ok. The Brunswick stew looked like a puréed cat food and only tasted slightly better. My friend's order of pulled pork was super dry and only just edible. Most of our orders came with white bread that looked like they had randomly packaged the wonder bread straight from the supermarket in little plastic baggies. Another friend had the friend catfish and said it wasn't bad and another said the same about their brisket sandwich. No one really enjoyed their food. My sides of fries and hush puppies were both disappointing and again, only just edible because I was hungry. Dining in would have been a better option as I think part of the appeal is the local ambience. The server was friendly and food came out in about 20 min. read more

First time at Gumlog BBQ and Fish-camp. Many of our neighbors had told us about Gumlog telling us the catfish was amazing. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and immediately seated. Our waitress arrived within moments and was a very sweet and caring young lady. She continually checked on us and kept our sweet tea full throughout our dinner. We ordered the catfish and fried shrimp platter as well as the ribeye steak platter. When the catfish arrived instead of the boneless fillet we ordered we were served the full catfish with bones. Our waitress immediately recognized the mistake, apologized profusely, and sent it back to the kitchen. Within minutes we were served a fresh order of the boneless catfish fillets. The shrimp, hush puppies and catfish fillet's were prepared exceptionally. The hush puppies were some of the best we have ever had and their homemade tartar sauce is delicious. The hush puppies and catfish both had a cornmeal breading which was light and not greasy at all. We also ordered a ribeye which was good. It was perfectly cooked to order and was a decent cut. We were somewhat disappointed in the lack of seasoning on the steak but a little additional salt and pepper and the steak was very good. All in all we had an excellent experience; we loved our waitress and the food was so so enjoyable. Some neighbors as well as the waitress also recommended the brisket saying it was the best around. We will definitely be back and the brisket will be one of our next choices. read more

Love eating here in Lavonia, GA. Always busy so go early if you don't want to wait forever. Open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I think I saw where they are open these days on Thursday as well, but please check before going. Everything here is nicely prepared and service is very good. These people have it down about how to get great food out to a bunch of hungry people. Very impressive menu with lots of choices. Try the fried catfish for sure. Word is a former moonshiner opened this place in this Gumlog area and if he was half as good at making moonshine as he is at frying catfish, that's saying something! read more

I rarely give poor reviews but considering how far off the beaten path this place was and how our food was I'm not sure I could do more than two stars. Not wanting to eat at the cluster of fast food places off the interstate my daughter consulted Yelp and saw this place had almost 5 stars. We were hoping to dine in but the place was packed. Some booths were closed but all the tables on the floor were not socially distanced and jammed with people. The servers and staff wore masks but we didn't see anyone else with masks in even when they were not eating. We decided to place a to go order. The young man taking our order and escorting the maskless patrons inside was very nice although he was only wearing a gaiter not a real mask. After we ordered another man came and sat behind the table but began coughing so violently he had to leave and walked around the side of the building. The younger man, perhaps he noticed our alarm, asked us if we wanted to wait in our car. After 20 minutes they called and we went to get our food. They neglected to include any set ups or napkins. My daughter ordered a small BBQ pork plate. Small meant about 1/2 cup chopped pork in a tomato based sauce that she described as having an odd texture. It came with "Brunswick stew" but it was hard to recognize it as such because it was so puréed. My daughter compared it to vomit . In its defense, it didn't taste that bad but definitely not what I expected. I got butterflied shrimp and flounder. The shrimp was the minced and formed kind that Mrs. Paul catches and you can get in the freezer case at IGA. The flounder was chewy. On the good side my mom liked her bone-in catfish fillets. The cold slaw was mediocre and the hush puppies were strangely coated with corn meal. The fries were okay but frozen too. I can't comment on the staff but my daughter insisted I make it clear that the young man at the door was friendly and polite and deserves recognition. For all the rave reviews we just expected so much more. read more

We were staying at the nearby State Park and called The Establishment to find out what the wait time was. We were quoted 5 to 10 minutes. We arrived 10 minutes later, and there were easily 20 people ahead of us with a 40 minute wait time. It gets better. We left, called them back five minutes later, and we're told there was no wait time. In my opinion, it seems like they quote you a short wait time to get you into the restaurant hoping once you get there you will stay regardless of the true wait time. Once I would call an accident. Pork barbecue was tasteless and cold. Stew was pureed and just plopped on a divided plate. Fries and onion rings were hot and tasty.
