I had only ever previously used Gundlach's for annual servicing. I knew they were more expensive than their competitors for this, but I was willing to pay the small amount extra because it wasn't that much, they had great customer service, and they were very fast. My experience with them changed completely when I needed actual work done. Long story short, my house needed a complete replacement of all the duct work and the estimate that Gundlach's gave me was was more than double what some other companies in town told me they would charge for the same job. MORE THAN DOUBLE! FOR THE SAME JOB! If you want to pay in excess of $10,000 more than multiple other companies in town are charging then you should definitely use Gundlach's. Special shoutout to their service technician Brent who, in the enclosed screenshot, is trying to guilt me into going with them by referencing my disabled wife's health and also admits, in writing, that if money is your main concern then Gundlach's isn't the company for you. That's not my words - that's directly from a Gundlach's employee. I've worked in customer service for almost 20 years and find these tactics to be... questionable at best. If you need to resort to guilt to close a sale then you've already lost. Also, that crosses a line and is highly inappropriate. You don't know our situation. Don't talk about something you know nothing about. I have no idea what he was trying to accomplish by confirming that if money is my main concern that his company won't work for me. We recently had to have a unit put on our hone after 16 yrs with the old one. We had found out the old unit was leaking carbon monoxide into our home. They had original came out to just service it and stopped immediately once they discovered the problem. Within 4 days we had a crew out here working on the ducts and getting ot ready for new unit. They tried to sell me an $8000 repair on a unit that is 12 years old and did not need repairs.

First of all, YELP, a 1-star rating is "terrible" or "wretched," not "not good." And Gundlach's is TERRIBLE. They have tried to "fix" problems with our AC unit repeatedly last Summer. They suggested another intake vent in my bedroom to increase our AC's productivity and strength. At that point, I was desperate. It cost $3,000. It. Did. NOTHING. When we called them back, they looked at the temperature gauge or console (not sure what it's called). It showed us that we could never get below 78 degrees), and he flipped it open and said, "oh, it was on low. It needs to be on high." He selected "high," and it worked like new. How about that $3,000 b.s. repair? Think I'll get a refund, a credit? Nope. I'm assuming that their owners needed fancy vacations, and our $$$ helped them in their endeavors. Fast-forward to 2 weeks ago: they do their basic 6-month inspection/ service. And shocker of SHOCKERS. Something else is "wrong." They wouldn't tell us; they kept wanting to see us, both my husband and me, at home in the middle of the day. When work kept me a bit late, they rescheduled. Then it happened again. Finally, I called them and complained to the manager who had no idea what was going on at his business because he had just gotten back from...you guessed it! His 10-day vacation. The conclusion? They wanted to do a few repairs that might make our AC work a bit better. They wanted to charge us a few more thousands to get the unit to work so that some percentage would go lower. Finally, they admitted that our unit, yes, is old and that these "repairs" weren't a necessity. Conclusion: almost every time they do their 6-month subscription service, something is "wrong." We have sunk THOUSANDS into this crooked business. Don't, PLEASE don't make the same mistakes I did. We were pleased with how quickly they were able to schedule our work. They came out on Monday to assess our old unit and our new heating and cooling system was installed on Wednesday. I appreciated the text message introduction to our technician Marty. Talk about efficiency! Our technicians were on time and on the job! We use Gundlach's for all of our plumbing and AC needs because they are the best. Last year, they replaced our AC, and this year we needed the ductwork done. From start to finish, it was a positive experience. Brent explained everything thoroughly and Marty, the project manager, was very responsive. when we were still having issues getting air to one of the back bedrooms (our house is older). They came back twice and Steve even added a new vent for us to to ensure that we have excellent airflow. Our house is incredibly cool in all of our rooms now, and with the sealing, we are losing less air, which will help us save on our bills. We all know how important that is with the Bakersfield heat. Gundlach's is professional, skilled, and above all, attentive to customer needs. We really appreciate their attention to detail and their friendly and courteous service. Negative experience with this company for the following reasons: Member of the Comfort Club since 2019 which offers a discount on services as well as maintenance checks of your A/C unit and tankless water heater ($34.95 a month); the contract will automatically renew for a full 12 month period so if you decide to cancel (as I have), you are required to pay out the remainder of the contract if you do not notify them 30 days prior to the end of the previous contact. (Paid an extra 200 dollars after becoming frustrated with the company to get out from the Comfort Club obligation). One year ago, I called to ask about plumbing running from our toilet to the sewer and if they could come assess our situation. Abrupt office member on the phone told me they didn't do plumbing jobs which was confusing to me as "Plumbing" is in their name but I needed it done quickly so chalked it up to a team member who didn't know what they were talking about and ended up hiring a different company despite paying monthly for Gundlach's Comfort Club service. Upon the latest Comfort Club maintenance check, I was informed that an AC pipe had burst and it would cost roughly 6500 to replace it. Requested their team come and offer an estimate to replace the entire unit as 6500 seemed too much to sink into a repair on an older unit. The price for full AC replacement from Gundlach struck me as high (roughly 16,500 dollars). Both team members who helped me with the initial quote of repair and then the member who quoted the AC replacement were both extremely professional and polite. However, the prices seemed inflated so I called for several other quotes. A serviceman from another company who checked the unit said he could find no evidence of a burst pipe or leak. He recommended replacing the unit as that it was 25 years old and R22 prices have skyrocketed as they are phased out but said our unit would last another summer before needing to be completed. (The AC unit continues to currently run fine). The quotes from other AC companies for replacing the unit came in at least 4000 less than Gundlach. Everyone I have interacted with recently at Gundlach has been very professional and polite, including both customer service reps I interacted with when I called to cancel my membership. However, in my experience, Gundlach is run with profit over customer satisfaction/value in mind. Companies clearly need profits to function, but Gundlach's system appears set up to gouge beyond what a reasonable profit seems to be. Do not recommend. read more

After the debacle that started on the 19th, They came back out and determined that the fill valve was going bad (coincidentally). They replaced it for free which is what I had expected. I realized that the plumber that came out was never contacted by their after hour emergency phone service center. The tech said he would have come back immediately if they had contacted him. While the work they did is a bit overpriced, they did do quality work after all, but do not count on the after hour emergency service phone answering service to provide in an actual emergency. read more

We purchased our home approximately two years ago and just had our first issue with the air conditioning unit. I called out to 2 separate AC companies and set up a request for help through yelp. I was able to set up two appointments through yelp, one the same day as I called, they squeezed us in and one for the following day. Gundlach was speedy honest and knowledgeable for this area. I reached out to Gundlach because they did some HVAC work for my parents and my parents said the work was not perfect but better than another company that they had gone with previously. I gave a second star because Henry who came out and looked everything over for me was incredibly polite, thorough, and informative. He explained everything to me and made sure I understood and provided me with a clear quote that itemized everything very well. That being said I can't help but be completely confused with the pricing of this company. I requested a quote for a new central AC unit and any other duct work that might be needed. After everything was checked out it was recommended I get the new unit, had new insulation done, add one more duct run to the other side of my living room, and repair the ducting in my kitchen and remove the non-functional swamp cooler from the roof. The total quote for a 1 day project came out to over $20,000...holy crap batman. I had another company come out and give me a quote for the exact same work minus the new duct run. They did all the exact same work for under $13,000 and didn't charge me a dime for the swam cooler removal (Gundlach wanted $900 for that.) I got a better unit than Gundlach offered me, the new one I got is a 2-speed, the 2-speed option from Gundlach was an additional $1,000 on top of the original quote. Henry is a great salesman and seems to be an honest guy but I cannot understand where Gundlach's prices come from and why they are so insanely high. Their financing also came in a 6% for the duration of the loan, I got 0% from the company I ended up going with. Just too expensive for what is being done in my opinion. read more

Used to be a good company, but no longer. AC that they installed a few years ago stopped working. I called them to set up appt. Despite paying for their service plan that gives priority (Supposedly) took 4 days. Yes two were the weekend. Scheduled for 3-5 pm. They changed it to 12-3. I had to use PTO to take off work to be there tech showed up at almost 4:45. Looked at it for 15 min and said it's thermostat. Quoted me $400+. I said no. I bought one and changed it. Have done it numerous times at work. Still doesn't work. Call back. They have a opening tomorrow for another $49 fee to just show up. Found out they are no longer a locally owned company. After my complaint with the California State Licensing Board (CSLB), Gundlach's is under Administrative Legal Review, both company's were fined and notified now awaiting legal court action. They set up high cost maintenance service plans, never seem to have right size filters (wouldn't that seem to be important for the service profile at some point?- the don't stock that size in my van gets old). Service guys are really nice, but office is a NIGHTMARE. Rude when you make any inquiry. They will keep billing you even when they haven't contacted you to schedule. So scammy. Wow! Came same day I called in 105 degree weather and AC was broken. Called another reputable company who had a 5 day wait which was unacceptable. I was prepared for the worst and would have believed just about anything they told me as I've had problems in the past. I also thought I would have an enormous cost, but the technician was as honest and fair as they come! Gundlach showed up and fixed the problem in less than 45 minutes and the charge was only 50$! Integrity and professionalism , this place gets my Highest recommendation!! The office staff is excellent and nice too! I used to use the Homeowners insurance which provided the absolute worst company's with weeks long wait and they knew nothing and charged thousands and had to keep coming back over and over for weeks on end! I even had one who tried to steal the replacement unit that the insurance had provided and they still didn't fix the problem!! Gundlach also has a monthly maintenance service where they change filters and clean unit in preparation for heating etc! I will definitely use this as Gundlach is the most honest HVAC service I've ever experienced!! They saved the day!!! Love this place it's a dream come true!!! We called and got set up on the service plan they have, trying to be good owners. Our AC unit had NO issues (it was inspected during our escrow). Upon the first AC service we were told nothing was wrong with our AC unit but we had wires that were burnt and would have caused our AC to catch on fire; so of course we paid the 130 to have it fixed because it's our home. Then he left, didn't go over anything. Fast forward 2 months to now. Our AC goes out. It's 106 and humid in Bakersfield, our house is quickly going from 72, to 89. They charge me a service fee (even though I pay for a plan) to come out and asses. The guy tells us we need a new AC unit which would be about 15k and weeks to order. Said we had holes in our coils, no refrigerant, our fan was broken, and the compressor is blown, said there was nothing he could do but get us in contact with sales or get us a pricey quote to fix it but it would be better to get a new unit. We have two young kids at home along with dogs and needed this fixed ASAP. We started calling around. After having someone come out, it was a simple fix of a new fan motor. He said the fan had been unplugged by someone (it isn't a part that just comes unplugged easily), and it caused the motor to burn up. Stated our coils and compressors worked perfectly with no issues and that there was plenty of refrigerant in there. Stated he would need to order us new fan blades but we could have our AC up and working just fine until the new blades come in. It cost us 800 for the fix, and our house went from 90 degrees to 73 within 2 hours. I have called Gundlach's all morning for answers / refunds for services, and no one has called back, or had any answers for me other than they'll take my number down. We had a snake jammed in the shower along with dirt & grass debris & I pictured jackhammers & breaking thru concrete..which none of that happened. However, when he presented me with a six hundred and eighty some dollars invoice, I asked him to double check his itemized statement. I figured he made s mistake and added cost of material. I supplied the garbage disposal and the Sink faucet, Henry only provided the labor. He was at my house for 1 hour and 50 minutes total, including personal blablabla conversation and he took his jolly time working. Not to mention they add $48 to your bill just to show up, but it's not part of the labor performed. It's just for them to show up. I own five restaurants and I deal with plumbing companies almost daily and in five different cities, and the most I have ever paid for plumbing services (as weekend overtime) was 140$/labor hour. Jerry not only rescued my house from being flooded with his rapid response time on a Saturday night but also did a great job installing a new kitchen faucet fixture and a new shower head assembly which he recommended. A tech went out August 2022 to check a 2.5 ton AC unit. They have specials of $49.00 for a diagnostic but they will also charge you for $49.00 for a trip charge which I didn't know you. It's deceitful. The tech informed me that the freon charge will be close to $1000.00. That is crazy price for a freon. Then the tech told me to replace the 2.5 ton unit will cost $20,000. I called Gundlach and according to her, the tech spent 1 hour just to check the freon line in and out. The tech never spent an hour. It only took 15 minutes plus our conversation in total . The should be at least be considerate. This just made it impossible for me to do anything with it. There might be a freon leak so it's useless just to pump in. Be careful with Gundlach and look somewhere else before calling this Company. I will never ever use them again. read more

Unfortunately, my elderly parents purchased an HVAC Unit from Gundlach's. Although the purchase was made now over a couple of years ago, I found out from my elderly parent's recently after the fact, that they were NOT apprised of all the rebates they were entitled to of @ least $4000 or more so they paid FULL price of $10,000. When I purchased my own AC Unit a year before from a very reputable AC company, I ended up paying $3,800 for a 16 SEER (excellent) Unit after all my rebates, which the AC company had graciously apprised me of and even filled out all of the rebate paper work for me too. My parents were also sold things they did not need. I know they (Gundlach's) had to know obviously, that the rebates from the State of CA and PG&E etc., were not "activated" by my parents, and I wonder if the huge rebates were "redeemed" by anyone there at Gundlach's instead. Hopefully, you all (Gundlach's) there did not cash them in for yourselves. BEWARE of this shady place! I will tell everyone that I can not to do business there. I feel you took advantage of an elderly couple, but "lucky" for the Gundlach's company, now too much time has probably gone by for me to get an attorney on behalf of my parents. Again, it is very disturbing that this level of dishonesty towards an elderly couple was committed. People, make sure you check for and get your rebates from the State of CA and PG&E which, they are still paying out to consumers to this day. Also check the BBB for another complaint on Gundlach's regarding someone's energy rebate, in which they also screwed that up too. I had a service from Gundlach's about more than ten years ago. I made payments to them and paid them off within two months. I understand that is payment on services rendered but had a unfortunate emergency. I tried to call them for service four years ago,but was denied service because I was blacklisted. I even offered to put a credit card on file as well as apologized for the past. But I was refused service. I tried to speak to the manager who refused to speak to me. I have since found another local professional company. I'm just surprised about the hypocrisy of this company, they advertise on a Christian radio, as well as their management drives in their red trucks with a scripture on the back. Way overpriced. My grandparents are in their 80s and had a service agreement with Gunlach's and thought they should use them to fix a simple leak with their toilet. $403 dollars later, they had their leak repaired...I understand that the company needs to make a profit, but the amount they charged was outrageous for such a simple fix. What angers me is that the technician sounded as if he was pushy, making my grandmother worry & said they really needed fix another leak and he'd "only" charge them another $500+ to do it while he was out there but more if he had to come back out. Luckily my grandmother said she'd talk to my father about the other leak first before having them do anything with it. My dad said he could have fixed their original leak for $30 in parts & fortunately my father-in-law is a plumber and came to fix this other $500+ valve replacement for $120 (with no discount and including labor). We told my grandparents to definitely cancel their service agreement and use a reasonable plumber. I realize they had a choice when using Gunlach's for their service, but it felt like they were taking advantage of my elderly grandparents and pressuring them to spend hundreds of dollars for simple issues when they are on a fixed income. ***Gunlach's was called in reference to the over-priced bill, but nothing was resolved. read more

We had our AC unit replaced and got signed up for annual service. When the inspector came out to look at are unit, I ask him "That seemed fast". He said "Some companies do great work like Gundlach's and other he will have to spend a lot more time checking and documenting problems". He implied we picked the best company in town to use for our AC replacement. I would agree. We called the other day about a noise that was bothering me. I had read the noise was typical because of the newer California requirements but wanted to make sure. The lady who answered, and Malia both were very friendly and very professional. They sent out a technician the next morning and he spent about an hour going thru our unit. He came down and explained everything to me. He left and I was confident everything was Good to Go. We have had no problems with our until and the house stays at a very consistent temperature. I will recommend Gundlach's to everyone I know or run into that need AC service or replacement. read more

First time out it was 286 dollars to replace rusted bolts and seal for toilet. Home just built in 2013. This was in July of 16 I believe. (Dispatcher told me that and also that I still had warranty till July 2018) I was at work when plumber contacted me and informed me that builder used less quality materials. (In 2016) It's in the kids hallway restroom so I Authorized the repair. Got home from work and was satisfied. Two weeks ago (2018)I call them back out to inspect the bolts because they are rusted again. I used to work there so I am familiar with the two year warranty. Plumber showed up at my door with no tool bag and just a phone in his hand. Walked straight to the hallway restroom. Took pictures and walks out with not one word. Comes back and tells me it will be 286 dollars to complete the repairs. Astonished, I do my best to maintain my composure while I do my best to explain the whole scenario. Plumber doesn't want to hear it. So I ask to speak to a manager. "George". I hear him say what's he want to speak to me for it's not under warranty. So I attempt to explain to him that his plumber is trying to charge me for the exact same repair that was made their last visit. His says oh let me look into it. I'll have my guy take some pictures. So the plumber back in my home taking pictures again. Even though he just took them. Plumber walks out to his van. Sits there for a while, comes back and tells me yeah it's not covered under warranty. In disbelief at what is transpiring right in front of me (the unprofessionalism-my words can not express the reality of how all this was taking place) I attempt to call the office and speak with one person then she hands me over to Jessica. As I am explaining the situation to Jessica the plumber comes up to me and says hey they want me to leave I just gotta go. I'm leaving. I ask him for something in writing which he does not give me? Jessica informs me that she will look into it. I ask her to please contact my wife with the outcome because I just couldn't believe the unprofessionalism I was just met with. She says okay. My wife gets home and I asked her the outcome. She says the plumber says we need a 900 dollar repair. (How did the cost of repair now change from 286 to 900?) At that point I was at a lost for words. Keep in mind I used to work for this company, so I text the owner and inform him that - I now know how his customers feel at the end of the day. His response to me was if I want it done right it is going to cost 900 dollars. But he does not understand at this point everything that transpired. It's not his fault. If I were still his technician I would hope that he would defend me the same way so I get it. But this time Sir, you are and were wrong to dismiss your customer, especially when your plumber represented your establishment so poorly. Honestly I don't know what I expected when they came out. All I know is I spoke with the office and they told me it would be under warranty-when I initially called in to inquire about the whole scenario. They could have a plumber out that same day. The dispatcher said. So I agreed to the appointment. Honestly, my wife just wanted it repaired so I thought might as well see if it's still under warranty, if not it's not no big deal. It was just so odd that the cost he wanted to charge me was the exact same number I had paid. The plumber kept telling me we don't warranty bolts, which I get but if that is the only reason I called them out for in 2016 then what did I pay them for. The seal the plumber probably didn't even change it in 2016 because he told me he needed to pretty much charge me for that repair to get the bolts in-my house at the time was not even 3 years old. He said the builder just used cheap material. It made total sense. Who is their that hasn't purchased a new home to find the builder tools short cut somewhere. This was the only reason we called them in 2016. Just the bolts were rusted. It was weird. No they are rusted again. But per the plumber they don't warranty bolts - ITheir motto is good old fashioned integrity with today's technology. Unfortunately that was not the case this day. So as a consumer you decide if you would like to be the next one writing this post. We needed to have our main sewer line unclogged. Was told someone would be at our home between 3:00 -600 pm. Fernando was at our home by 3:00. My husband was told there would be a service call fee of 49.00 dollars and a flat rate fee. Beware Fernando was at our home for only 45 minutes Max and we were charged $266.00. If I could give no stars I would. I fell like I have been ripped off. First they send out a guy who is rude, and he left his trash in my yard. They charged me over $500 to clean a drain. They had to come back out a second time to finish the job. There was one clean out for both drains and the first guy didn't want to take the time to complete the job. In my opinion, They overcharge and will charge you for unnecessary work. It's funny how Rachael always replies to the complaints on Gundlach's behalf with total B.S. I called the manager to resolve the issue and he generously said he would credit me $300 on future work. What's interesting is that they said they needed to cut into my walls and plumbing to clear the shower drain. That was total crap because I was able to clear that drain by myself with drain cleaner and a plunger! This company Will try to take advantage of you!!!! Run as fast as you can!!! And Rachael W. with Gundlachs---I don't want to hear about your superior service, parts, employees, or whatever other crap you have to say in response. My AC wasn't cooling my house. Gundlach's was professional, efficient and repaired the issue quickly! I will definitely use them again.

AC went out, first guy came took out my delay, disconnected the kickstart from its own capacitor, never questioned why kickstart has it's own capacitor, just went ahead did it anyway, got it running for a week, down again, new tech came, says it's the kickstart, Replaced a $40 part for $260, which only took 15 minutes to replace, horrible.. this was a mistake on my part, a week later, AC down again. Another tech came, ohhh it's a bad capacitor!!! We'll why didn't they figure that out in the first place. I think all these guys do is replace parts, I don't think they do any real solid technical diagnosis of the system, I fear that I will see them again next week. They're good at replacing parts which I can do but I'm looking for real professionals who can do solid AC work, find causes and understanding different types of systems. Gundlach techs are nothing but cookie cutter parts replacer company. read more

They are a good company, very expensive!!! they came out twice and never really fixed the problem. The 2nd guy was very good but within a few days the lines were backed up again.. they never really looked into what was causing the back up.. We finally went with another company and they took care of the problem.. Maybe more trouble shooting in the future instead of price gouging customers.. We had all new pipes put in so you lost out on that business.. read more
