When I came home from a few days away my air conditioner wasn't working. It wouldn't turn on at all! I contacted my home warranty company and they sent service request to Grogan. They got back to me within a few hours. Lili (not sure if I got her name correctly) answered my callback with courtesy & professionalism. My husband, our pups, and I are SO grateful for Grogan!!! Our AC went out on July 12th, and unfortunately, Fidelity initially dispatched another local company that had no idea what they were doing and ended up making things worse. Grogan had been out to our home earlier this year for a tune-up and capacitor issue, so I pushed to have our service request switched to them. After many battles with Fidelity and almost eight weeks without AC during the hottest part of summer, they finally agreed to let Grogan take over and our system was replaced. It's now been running perfectly for two weeks! I cannot say enough good things about the entire team. Lily was always so kind and patient when helping me schedule, and they consistently managed to fit me in same- or next-day, which was such a relief during this ordeal. Monique went above and beyond -- always willing to answer my many questions and more than thorough in explaining what was happening behind the scenes. Darrin, the owner, quickly accepted the work when contacted by Fidelity, and his sense of urgency to get this completed for us was night and day compared to the initial company. And the techs who came out (Cole, Trent, Esteban, Chris, and Robert) were all fantastic, punctual, and professional! I will never call another company to service our HVAC. And for anyone else using a home warranty: know that you can request your preferred company! As long as they're contracted with your warranty provider, they should be dispatched. This company was sent through my home warranty, the technician refilled my coolant on my ac, but also told me the the unit had a leak. They never sent anyone back to fix the leak and my ac stopped cooling again. I called the company to ask if they were coming back to fix the ac but they had no record of the conversation I had with the technician. I had to pay a different company to come fix it. I had previously written a negative review and decided to delete it because they came back out to work on my AC again. Gave them the benefit of the doubt. Regret it wholeheartedly. 7 appointments since June and 3 "repairs" done with no resolution. All the technicians that come out are inexperienced and stay on the phone with someone else telling them what to do. Nothing that they stated was wrong with my AC was true. They changed major components and charged my warranty company monies for nothing. Ac still not working after 2 months of this company working on it. Stay away from this company. And, to top it all off the required a Title 24 Certification failed to be scheduled by Grogran as part of the agreement with the warranty company, which I find out about months later. Diagnosis: shot transformer. Before Brandon replaced it, he gave me the total price. After the repair, he checked the temp to make sure it was cold. My HVAC would be leaking on the bottom when it's on for a while. I went through my home warranty and they contacted Grogan Mechanical. They gave me a window between 8am-12pm and I received a text message on when Emmanuel will be coming. He came a little after 8am. I showed him what my concerns were. My HVAC was leaking slightly at the pipe. There was also a little water coming out from the pipe that's connected to attic to the outside. He brought his ladder to go into my attic to check my furnace. Emmanuel also inspected the wires and checked the temperate to both the furnace and HVAC. He saw that they were both functioning normally and the leaks were mainly just condensation. He cleaned my HVAC before he left. Overall, I had a good experience with Emmanuel and the person who scheduled my appointment on the phone. Wish they were open on the weekend though so I didn't have to take a day off of work. read more

First and Foremost Monique the receptionist/dispatcher is disrespectful. She needs to work on her customer service skills. She sounds annoyed every time I call when she answers and does not relay messages or does not care to call the customer back. I used Grogan for A/C mini splits and came across a couple issues, so I called them back to hold them accountable and Monique does not pass information to her supervisor and keeps the customer on the back burner. I would not rely on this business to get A/C up and running on time and if they do you may have to call them back. They don't warranty or guarantee their work. read more

Darrin Grogan responding to an elderly person in the hospital for heat stroke: I'm in a 70 degree AC house right now and I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight. On 8/7/20, our home warranty commissioned Grogan Mechanical to fix our broken AC during 110 degree weather. According to the home warranty company, the ordered AC part was available for pick up on 8/11/20. When I called to notify Darrin Grogan, owner, on 8/13/20 that the part was available and this should be prioritized because my elderly parent had to be hospitalized due to a heat stroke, his response was absolutely unprofessional. Though I was upset, Grogan was speaking on the phone with curse words, said that the delay was due to the home warranty, and the part cannot be expedited installed because of his workers' scheduling issues. When I reminded him that my elderly parent's safety was at stake and already had to seek medical care, he responded, verbatim, "Why didn't you take care of your parent? I'm in a 70 degree AC house right now and I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight." Essentially, Grogan and his employees had no empathy for our situation and did absolutely nothing except curse and scold us as the customers. The part remained in their office as they ignored any calls and pleas to expedite the install. Today, 8/14/20, we still have a 90 year old elderly person in the house during 110 degree weather. Install date is still delayed until 8/17/20 with on-going attempts to expedite secondary to extenuating circumstances. Grogan's response to this was "Don't ***** me off or else I'll cancel the job and you'll have to f****** start all over with this process with [home warranty]." Very unprofessional and unbelievably heartbreaking. The lack of humanity and empathy from Grogan and his company is absolutely disheartening. Please avoid all business and heart ache with this inconsiderate company. Furthermore, as I'm reading through other bad reviews, I see that Grogan responds with zero accountability, high defensiveness, and a lot of blame on the client with bad experiences. I anticipate this will have a similar response. However the fact remains, Grogan and his team have been inconsiderate and insulting throughout this entire process. read more

I used Emanuel Banos from GROGAN MECHANICAL for AC service and this was some honest service. I Highly Recommend this company to service your home AC. Long story short, we called GROGAN MECHANICAL for 2nd opinion from our 1st estimate for AC repair. 1st AC company we used I will leave their name out of this due to not hurting their business... estimate was $5800 to repair condenser, coil, and pan. I was in shock so we wanted 2nd option and called Grogan Mechanical... when Emanuel called me after reviewing the work needed my bill was $115 dollars for service. Cleaned the secondary line, coil, and pan. He told me the coil and condenser was fine and didn't need to be replaced and after service the AC was blowing nice cool air. Just needed some servicing. So be careful out there. I know nothing about AC unit and could have been taken for $5800 from the unnamed AC company... My AC unit froze up and was not functioning at all. It would turn on but wouldn't blow out any air. I called my home warranty company and they put me in contact with Grogan Mechanical Inc. Grogan's response time was pleasantly quick and I was put on their schedule two day wait. The day after I was put on the schedule Grogan called and had an opening that day and I took it. Not only did they bump up my appointment but they showed up when they said they would. The service technician Chris Paredes was friendly and explained how he was going to diagnose what was going on with my AC unit. This guy was good with his process of elimination and communication with me he figured out I had a brown out kinda like a black out and that could have messed up the two units of the outside unit communicating with the inside unit. And i said I had the power go out the morning my AC stopped working. I was impressed with the knowledge and the time Chris took to diagnose. After Chris reset the AC unit we has cold air again Chris stuck around testing the refrigerants and the air flow out of my vents. He did not get it running and take off. They came out twice per our Home Owners insurance claim. We continued to have issues with our AC unit up until recently it just gave out. Filed another claim with our homeowners insurance paid another $75 out of our pocket and had a new contracted AC Tech come out inspected outside and inside and asked if the unit was recently worked on which it was. Then he proceeded to tell us that the unit was just patched up to make it run and not worked correctly and professionally. He told us that the board had many heat/wear marks in which he showed us and the blower motor was shot and also said he will service the entire unit thoroughly in which he will do of his own accord. Each summer for the past several years I had issues with my air conditioner operating inconsistently when the thermostat was set. My warranty company would assign a merchant to inspect and make the necessary repairs. Each year inspectors were not able to find any issues. This year the problem continued and the assigned AC company again assured me the AC was fine suggesting I needed an electrician to check the circuit box. The electrician determined the problem was not the circuit box, but the AC putting out too many amps. Great potential for a fire! A second company, Grogan, was assigned to reinspect the AC and agreed there were issues that needed immediate attention. Darrin from Grogan worked that afternoon in 106 degree weather to get the necessary work done. When people are dealing with customers on a regular basis, there should be some amount of customer service. I understand it gets hot and busy, but we, the customer, deserve a level of professionalism and respect. That said, the technician representing Grogan, James (I didn't get last name), was unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful. At the start when James arrived, till the very end, James was rude and short with us. We explained our AC situation, but he quickly shut us down as if he did not want to hear our perspective of what we were experiencing with our AC. At the end of it, James demanded payment. I explained that I will pay online through my Home Warrenty, which contracted Grogan out. He was not pleased with that and said quite coarsely that I needed to pay immediately before they come back, and that they take cash or card, and began to stare me down to intimidate me. I said "okay, I'll pay online", to reiterate what I said. "Do you understand??", James said as I started back at him in awe of the rude question. I said, yes I understand. He proceeded to stare me down and ask the question again. Maybe he assumed I wouldn't pay the service call out fee, for whatever reason. I did not give him a reason to act this way or be rude. One can assess and question why, but regardless, unprofessionalism, rudeness, intimidation tactics are the fruit of whatever James and Grogan Mechanical has produced. I have contacted my Home Warranty so they may send another HVAC company for a second opinion. I do not trust what James prognosis was. read more

Well the first day this amazing crew stayed in to the evening to get me up and running as it was 105 in July to make sure I would have AC that night. They completed the rest the following day. Fantastic service! We have owned our home for 30+ years. This home was originally built in 1960 and we just completed a 1000 sf addition. Grogan Mechanical installed a new Rheem system for the addition, updated all the venting in the original part of home and made additional suggestions on insulation....our monthly electric is much lower and our larger home is so much cooler. In the past our AC ran non-stop during hot Summer months and the house never felt comfortable - some rooms would be cool and others would remain too hot. The lady who called was professional and understanding of our situation. The window of arrival was 2-4 and the tech arrived right before 2. I received a text that the tech was on his way. If you are reading this, please take note that when it comes to any residential work over $499, a licensed contractor is required by law. You can file a complaint with California State License Board (CLSB) and have a contractors license suspended or terminated depending on their violation. I did! And Grogan Mechanical's contractor's license is being suspended due to 2 violations. You can do more than just a negative review on YELP! Grogan Mechanical, James the technician, and Darrin the owner, are crooks and are impossible to work with. I'll spare you the rude conversations, but when I told Darrin I would file a complaint with CSLB, he said "Go ahead, I don't care." I bet he cares now! Here's a summary. A rooftop fuse blew after Jame's repair. Darrin refused to have James return for 2 weeks (said they were busy) and fix an exposed electrical problem that James created during the repair. When James arrived he came thru my gate, got on my roof and never even knocked on the door. When I asked him why didn't he knock on door, he said, "I don't have to". I told him yes you do. He called his boss Darrin and left without replacing the fuse or fixing or dianosing the unit. Austin HAC to the rescue! (Fidelity Home Warranty (I recommend them) dispatched another company, Austin Heating and AC (I recommend then also), even though my contract was up and it had been 2 months since the initial repair. Austin HAC (Rob) cam out and diagnosed the unit and found the compressor was pulling locked rotor amps (LRA) and was failing. Rob said he would report back to Fidelity and Fidelity would replace the rooftop package unit. He was right. I now have a new unit thanks to Austin HAC and Fidelity. The installer (Mike) was very professional. If you need AC service I recommend you try Austin HAC. 661 587-4702 Continuing: So I went to CSLB web site to file a complaint about 1) the exposed wiring and 2) I was not given a written contract/estimate to sign before work was started during the first nor second visit. And I noticed that Grogan Mechanical had filed an EXEMPT statement about Workers Comp Insurance. Here's what I saw. This license is exempt from having workers compensation insurance; they certified that they have no employees at this time. Effective Date: 12/10/2015 Expire Date: None So Grogan Mechanical was obviously violated contractors law by not having workers comp insurance and having an employee. I filed a complaint about that as well. Rhonda at CSLB has since called me to inform me that she has investigated my complaints and that Grogan Mechanical's contractor's license is in the process of being suspended. You can check it's status at https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/onlineservices/CheckLicenseII/LicenseDetail.aspx?LicNum=830328 So homeowners remember, the California State License Board is there to protect homeowners. So never use unlicensed vendors because they are operating illegally and you have no recourse expect to sue them. And they obviously will have shallow pockets. (Per CSLB, the only work which may be done at a California residence by an unlicensed vendor is handyman work totalling $499 or less including parts and labor. Vendor must include and charge for the parts instead of asking homeowner to purchase them.) US Navy Veteran. They were dispatched out to our house to fix our pool pump over a year ago at the time they started cleaning our pool with the company Splash Pools. They would never show up to clean our pool or they would show up and say the gate was locked even though they had a key. They would also say our dogs were in the backyard even though when we hired them we told them we had dogs and they met our dogs and had zero issues. They kept trying to bill us even though they would never clean our pool. My wife talked with Darren the owner and he said he would talk to the pool cleaner. Then his pool guy as well as himself would call my wife and just say the meanest things. He says we didn't pay him for 6 months of service which is a lie. Fast forward to today our A/C went out and we called our home warranty. They dispatch out Grogan Mechanical yet when I call Darren he says no we don't have any work order. He then says that my name sounds familiar but he can't place it. I call the Home warranty back to ask for another call out. Then Darren calls me back and I tell him that the Home Warranty already sent someone else. He then says that he found our old account that we never paid and that we are a bunch of F***Kers, he then hangs up on me so I call him back and says yea you Fing heard me you guys are a bunch of POS's who are probably on Welfare F you this and F you that. He then tells me that he is going to kick my A@#. I have since called the Home Warranty to let them know that this is who is representing them and I have all called the BBB. Wow! Unprofessional and unacceptable. Think twice about using Grogan Mechanical in Bakersfield. My child answered the door when the repairman arrived, because I was in the backyard waiting at the AC unit. The repairman was asked to go around to the back, however he insisted he enter the home, and (without asking) walked directly inside past my child and proceeded upstairs without any adult accompaniment or supervision! My son ran outside and told me the repairman entered the house. When I arrived he was coming back downstairs and stated he needed to turn the unit on before proceeding with the repair. Furthermore, he tracked dirt into a house in which shoes are never worn. After questioning why he would think it was ok to enter a home alone with a child, he said because I, an adult, was on the "premises" it was allowed based on company policy. I justifiably wasn't happy and told him what I thought about that. He said he was going to call his boss and proceeded to sit in his car for a few minutes and then left without any A/C repairs or apology. I called the number on the side of the van, and the "boss" said regarding the child in a home without an adult, as long as I was on the "premises" it gave his employee the right to enter the home. He said "you don't trust us enough to let us do our job?" HA! No, I don't trust anyone I don't know! I proceeded to tell him how I always accompany vendors in my home. Always. He stated he's been doing this for 18 years, and "go ahead, leave me a negative review, I don't care." Well, here it is. A direct reflection of my experience. I hope this review assists others. Additionally, this vendor was used because it was assigned to me through Fidelity National Home Warranty.
