About ten years ago, Mr. Hawley replaced the air conditioning system at our condo and did a fantastic job. This summer, the roughly 30-year-old system at our current house finally gave out. Despite it being the middle of summer, Mr. Hawley squeezed us into the schedule in less than a week and gave us a very good deal on a new Daikin heat pump system. He spent a great deal of time explaining the differences between a heat pump and a traditional HVAC system, answering my questions, and helping me understand why it made sense for our house. I really appreciated being educated rather than simply sold a piece of equipment. Hawley is also one of the companies in Bakersfield with the expertise to install and properly configure these kinds of heat pump systems. The team did a fantastic job completely retrofitting our system, and the difference inside the house is remarkable. The temperature is much more consistent and comfortable, the system is highly efficient, and ours also includes an ionizing air-cleaning system that helps remove particles from the air. It is rare to find a company that combines this level of technical expertise with genuine integrity and customer service. Our A/C went out on Saturday and had a leak at the evaporator and the condenser coil. We called Ted and he saved the day bringing 2 portable (Loaner) AC units with him as we figured out what we were going to do. We purchased an inverter AC system from him and it was slightly more expensive than a standard AC unit, but much more energy efficient and half the foot print. The new system was up and running two days later and it is freezing inside. Ted went above and beyond to keep us out of the heat and we appreciate that very much. In fact, I'm always afraid they are making a mistake when I get their invoice because it is so much less than I expected. A few months ago, we decided we needed to have our unit replaced after 18 years. We contacted a few places recommended on yelp, but felt like they were a good fit. We were given a quote and my husband told them to go ahead and start. They were here about 2 days and 2 more hours. They work clean and put down something on the carpet to not get anything on our hallway floor. Also, they arranged for a person to dispose of our old unit. They were professional, friendly,and best of all, don't try to oversell. We paid what we were quoted on and have had no issues with our new unit. First I just want to say how awesome Ted was!! A week prior to calling out Ted I made the mistake of calling another company out. My issue was the air conditioner would just run and run and not cool down my house. So I went to yelp for some help. The first person to respond to me was Rudy. So he came out and serviced my air conditioner by cleaning it and changing the air filter. He told us it was fixed. I came home to a hot house still. So I wrote him on yelp with pictures of my thermostat. He said he would come back out and check it out. A couple days pass and nothing. So I sent him another message and he said that day was to cold (it did rain that day) and he would come the next day. And nothing for a couple of days. So I gave up on him. Next I called Ted out. It was a Saturday so I didn't think he would make it but I thought I would try because it was hot. When I told him the issue he said it could be a couple of things and he could come check it out but he was booked for the day. By the end of the convo he said he would stop by within a hour and a half. He was here within a hour. He was quick to diagnose what the issue may be. He was very open and honest with us about our options. He was able to fix the problem and fill our refrigerant for $300 which I was more than happy to pay to have my air working again. I called on a Saturday when my heater wouldn't work. They came out same day within a couple of hours. Very nice and able to repair on the spot. Also very honest. Thought it needed a board replacement at first which would have cost more but then after going back up was able to replace a fuse and get it to work just fine. Fabulous! Called them after receiving a home inspection report (we are selling our home) which stated that one of our our AC condensers and one of our heating units were both "inoperable." Our house is only 6 years old and I just used the "inoperable" AC condenser less than two weeks ago. Two of the nicest gentlemen came out and did a very thorough inspection of all three condenser units as well as both heat exchangers. All check out just fine and I was present the entire time. They explained how the home inspector may have arrived at his "diagnosis," although I think he just didn't know enough about HVACs to make the determination he did. I wish I would have found this company years ago, because we've been through three AC companies in the past...none of which were very good. The Ac started blowing hot last night and my old lady had a meltdown, so after a sweaty evening I had a sweaty morning wondering how bad my unit was. Well I called ted at 7:15am I met him at the house after work @3:30p and the unit was blowing cold again by 4:15p. Ted replaced 3 electrical components and re-wired some shotty installation work. He had the parts on the truck so he's fast and efficient. The bill was $235. He was a pleasure to speak with and obviously an honest AC man. Ted Hawley has been my repair guy since I moved to Bakersfield in 2003. He has always been soft spoken and extremely honest to me in my dealings with him. My HVAC finally bit the dust in November. I had Ted come over and he finally admitted that yeah, my HVAC was caput. He advised me that if I could wait until January 1, 2023 then I will be eligible for large Federal Rebates that will be coming out as part of the new federal infrastructure programs, rebates that are generally much larger than prior programs from previous years. Anyway, we waited till January 1 and he installed a state of art Seer 19, 5 ton Bosch Heat Pump on my roof. Beautiful installation with no hitches. This heat pump seems to be saving me money because the heat pump does not use natural gas, so I pay nearly nothing for that side of the PG&E bill, and the electrical use has bumped up slightly, but is completely offset by the natural gas savings. Only time will tell the big story on how efficient this unit is, but so far my PG&E bill is showing moderately good savings. Also the heat pump unit operates very quietly which is a complete surprise because I can't hear it come on inside or outside the house. Hoping for huge savings this summer, as all heat pumps are more efficient in hotter weather. Thanks Ted! read more

I called to get a quote to replace both A/C units on my house that were 19 years old. The owner gave me a good quote and started the very next day due to a cancellation of a previously planned job. 11 hrs the first day, 13.5 hrs the second day and they were done. My mom's heater suddenly stopped working and was in need to have it repaired asap. I called three different companies for a quote and thanks to the yelp reviews, especially, the review by Jason M., it made my decision easy to go with Hawley AC & Heating. SIDE NOTE: I talked to the manager at One Hour Heating & Air to get clarification on their warranty. They could not give me a timeframe nor could they provide anything in writing but if anything were to go wrong, they will fix it. Having had negative experiences regarding warranty services, I did not feel comfortable having my mom go with a company that can not back up their warranty in writing. Ted picked up the call right away and was answered all my questions. It gave me peace of mind knowing that he offers 1 year warranty on parts and labor. Whereas the other companies only provide warranty on parts. He provided his earliest available appointment for the next day. I gave my mom his contact info to schedule the appointment. She called to give me an update of his services and total cost which. Unfortunately, the damage was worse than she anticipated but I'm sure Ted gave her a reasonable price. The repair cost was on the lower end of the spectrum of what it could have been charged! Called several other companies and all had about a $100+ diagnostics fee this place was half most other place had a lot of bad reviews of problems that where told to be and when others got a second look where not true. So a lot of problems can be made up in this industry I gather. I fully trust these guys and will be recommending them to any one I know that needs service.
