Short summary: Called same-day & Anna was available; texted a text design (one script line + one monospaced line) that I drafted on my phone; was able to come in asap (our hotel was 10 mins away); Anna is super cool to talk to & the tattoo was not only affordable but came out perfect, healed very well, & I will definitively return next time I'm in Minneapolis bc I love this place so much. Story: Soooo I visited MN for a concert & knew I was going to hit up a tattoo parlour. I wrote the top line of my tattoo 5+ years ago, and the second line when I was an adolescent. I'm obsessed w getting tattoos in cities I visit as "souvenirs," but I didn't have the idea to combine these 2 lines into 1 piece until literally that morning. I searched on Yelp (obv) for tattoo places & rly liked the reviews for Guns N' Needles Tattoo. Called, sent my design (which wasn't perfectly centered), and Anna had it fixed + printed prior to my arrival. One of her size options was larger than I envisioned it, and I immediately LOVED it (location: left inner wrist). Anna is so cool to talk to; the time flew by & it honestly felt like I was only there for 3 mins (it was longer than that.) But still quick. An hr at most. I'm so ecstatic that she had printed out the larger version of it bc now the top line (which is in a cursive font I chose) spans my entire wrist & feels even more self-defining. I would come back here in a heartbeat. Verrrrrry clean, organized place. They played some Deftones songs. I kept saying, "Omg I love this song." I don't really know what more you can ask. We parked on the adjacent street. She was so sweet & I felt confident that I could voice any concerns if there were any, etc. Anna gave me printed aftercare instructions and her contact info; my tattoo healed perfectly. I had an appointment with these folks had canceled last minute .because they couldn't do the Tattoo that they initially said they could do a week ahead of time . I even sent a photo of what I wanted and the guy said yes we can do it even with a quote and all . It was a very big disappointment .Because they wasted my time, energy and were rude about it as well .They could've at least just called me the day before and say that the tattoo was too challenging or something. In the end, I got it done, but I got it done at a better shop. I just will never give this place to business because of their lack of professionalism in keeping appointments and not giving enough time if they can't do it they should've called ahead of time to cancel if they needed to. They aren't reliable , aren't friendly ,aren't willing to take on a design they aren't use to like lions as they say and always saying they can't do a tattoo its weird and they are rude .Let me remind you this is over text .they have not met me either.so idk what there deal is .other tattoo artists and tattoo places are far better and able to do what I was requesting to do .maybe not there expertise but they should say so and be professional and respectful. read more

I cannot sing the praises of Roger enough. I have wanted a tattoo since I was little, but I had a rule for myself that I had to want it for 6 months to a year before committing. I'm also a huge needle-phobe so that also kept me out of the chair. This year (2022) was a big year and the stars seemed to align just right to push me to get a tattoo. I had a design in mind and reached out to a few artists who caught my eye. What I liked about Roger's style wasn't just that he was great, but he seemed to specialize in more cartoon style tattoos. As guided by the hand of fate, his first tattoo I saw on his page was actually similar to the one I wanted. I knew I had found my artist. I reached out honestly not expecting to hear back. Everywhere I looked books were closed and no one was taking appointments. To my surprise Roger agreed to meet for a consult. Our consult went GREAT. I really appreciated that he took his time with me and answered all my tattoo newbie/fear based questions. He never made me feel stupid or weird for my questions. What I really appreciated too was that he took the time to craft the tattoo with me. My initial design he explained wouldn't really let his style pop. He would do it, but he thought he could make it better. So we spent about an hour together really looking through images and hammering out details. He really explained his thinking about size, color, placement, etc. In the end my tattoo is bigger than I had expected it to be (per his recommendation) and took a lot longer than I thought going into this I would be able to tolerate (I thought maybe 30-1hr, it took about 6+), but it is AMAZING. There are few times in life when you get the chance to watch a true master at work. This for me was one of those few chances. Roger said that he likes to paint with the ink. My tattoo seriously looks airbrushed on. The way he was able to blend colors and give it so much soul/depth is amazing. I am totally hooked now. We decided to go in late 8/17/19 for a walk in tattoo and Ashley "Bama" Halverson did mine. I was very impressed with the atmosphere of the shop and everyone was very nice and professional and worked with top notch quiet tattoo equipment. I've been to a few different shops, and these guys are by far the most friendly, professional, clean, affordable, and skilled. I have three rather large tattoos done by Brian. Every time, he has met and exceeded my expectations, both in execution and design. I have seen work done by the other artists as well, and they are equally impressive. What an amazing experience! Woke up 2 days before my birthday and decided to finally get my first tattoo of my family name in my mother tongue which is Malayalam. Called in and got a same day appointment with Ciel. Travis Bracht did my piece and it is healing beautifully. Came in as a walk in and they had me in the chair very quickly. My tattoo hasn't scabbed at all and his linework is ON POINT!! Probably the best tattoo experience I have ever had. I highly recommend this shop, they are very courteous and professional. My tattoo was sort of silly, one of Garfield with a boombox and they did not make me feel dumb over wanting a humorous piece. So respectful. Also very sanitary and they use Tatu Derm to cover fresh pieces and send you home with some to protect your new piece. Reasonable pricing as well and they are willing to work with you. I had a fabulous experience with Guns N Needles Tattoo. From consultation to aftercare, these guys did a great job. I came in on a Saturday afternoon asking about walk-in availability for a tattoo that was way too complicated for a walk-in, but still I was received graciously and the guys in the shop did their best to get me scheduled in asap (which ended up being, amazingly, the next day... so, a Sunday, which seems cool to me.) I worked with Travis, who was awesome. During the consultation, his expectations were straight-forward and he asked the right questions to help me clarify my vision for the tattoo. When I came in to get the tattoo the next day, he was even better. He was the most communicative artist I've ever worked with, consistently asking me questions to gage my comfort, and easily adjusting both to my varying pain threshold and my occasional efforts to distract from the pain with small talk. I also appreciated his openness with each part of the process. There were no short answers or condescension. The aftercare explanation was excellent--very clear, which was particularly important because the bandages they used were unlike ones I'd seen before. Re: aftercare -- the bandages they use are super cool, designed to protect your tattoo from oxygen and contaminants to make sure it heals fast (!!) and to minimize pain. Not sure why every shop is not required to use these. They're the best. The work was very reasonably priced, and I love the tattoo. I won't need another shop in the future. read more

I feel like I need to start this by saying... Travis is amaaaazingggggg. I was a walk in with a reasonable request at about 7pm on a Sunday night. (Less than reasonable on my part) He and Brian were extremely accommodating in getting me scheduled. Brian was busy but Travis was just finishing a piece so I was quoted around half an hour wait time. I hung out in the shop waiting for my turn, was given all of the refreshments I could ever want. Also given free range domination on a candy bowl. Pretty much amazing. The shop was SO extremely clean and sterile, I probably waited like forty minutes to get in the chair but really, I just watched Travis do his cleaning thing and it was really assuring me I had made the right choice. (I had stopped by another shop right before visiting GNN and one of the artists smelled like he just came from a room holding 1000 cigarette smokers, and his nails were dirty. I was like...byeeeeeee) While getting worked on we had some good conversations, and got to know each other better. I didn't get squirmy until the end and he was a really good sport about it. Reasonable price, amazing work, and they watched me walk to my car to make sure I made it okay. Can't wait to go back!! read more
