Who knew a little gem hidden in the corner of a Gunbarrel shopping center would contain the best Indian food I've ever had (or at least top two - there's this other place in Broomfield that's pretty amazing too). Nonetheless, this place rocks. I've been there twice now and fell hard for their Korma. First time was veggie korma. So damn good. Second time, the chicken korma. Even better. The taste is delicious, but more. There's something to it that you can't quite put a finger on, a complexity that I'm under the impression comes with hard work and a lot of authentic spices. I've only gone for lunch, and their lunch deal rocks. It's under $10 for a cute metal tray loaded with rice, the main course, a fried onion crunchy, little delicious potato cakes and some great sauces. Definitely a great amount to fill a hungry human, but no too much to disable. The chef, Manni (and owner I believe) came out each time with friendly smile and was genuinely interested in making sure we were enjoying our meal. He even offered the mega spice option. I told him not to hold back and make it as spicy as possible. To my pleasant surprise he followed through and made a killer spicy korma (most places hold back because of my pasty complexion). To his surprise I was able to scarf it down, albeit with some sweat dripping from my face. Very glad to come here and look forward to my next visit. A friend introduced me to Gurkhas this week, and it was a wonderful luncheon experience. The restaurant features authentic Nepali and Indian cuisine, and the lunch combinations offered are really great. The spicy dishes are rated one to five, and I like four which is more than medium spicy which I enjoy. The prices are most reasonable, and you'll find dishes you may not have tried yet. We have ordered here many times before. Normally it's pretty good. I ordered the chicken thukpa it was not very good basically was like a spaghetti with some chicken in it with a not flavorful broth. We also ordered eggplant masala and the portions are tiny and flavor was ok! I was tempted to call for a refund. They seem pretty proud of there prices for what we paid for. read more

I ordered takeout... I only got two little containers of chutney with my two entrees and three servings of naan. The chilli momo was alright, but the korma (my absolute FAVORITE Indian dish) had no flavor and tasted almost like bland Mac and cheese. After the sauce was done doing whatever that was in my mouth, I tasted the meat. It did not taste seasoned either. I was probably the most dissatisfied with this Indian takeout than I have ever been in my life. These guys are willing to make most dishes vegan. Their place is clean and friendly. I've been there 4 times and the food is fresh and the service is consistently good. I don't tolerate spicy real well and found their medium heat to be way to hot, to the point of overpowering the natural flavor of the food. Mild is perfect to enjoy all the flavors fused together. Ordered delivery and it came at a reasonable time. I tried the goat curry with rice which was decent. The mango milkshake was extremely sweet... even for me who has a sweet tooth. I went to eat here on a Saturday night, with my 4 year old. I had the vegetable momo (I am vegan) and it was very tasty. Just wish it had a bit more sauce. My son is not vegan and he had a meal from the children's menu, sweet and sour chicken, and mango lassi. We both ate every bite and the server was very attentive. I wish I knew the names of the things I ate at Gurkhas because I think that would really improve my review. But, I don't and so we'll have to go with descriptions and hopefully some of you out there will understand me. First of all the restaurant itself is casually nice - really clean with lots of table of varying size so that when we entered with a group of 8 there was already a table set that was big enough for us. The staff, too, are a nice group. They were available without being overly obnoxiously attentive, which is sometimes a hard mix to find. I had the buffet which carried quite a few options - plenty for vegetarians and omnivores alike. Some of my favorites were the cauliflower in some sort of sauce, these little potato pancake things that were a bit spicy, a chickpea dish, and the Daal. (Hey! Look at that! I did know the name of one thing.) But, everything I ate was enjoyable. The one strange thing to me was that we got our silverware at the buffet, but they never gave us full sized napkins. So, we all used cocktail napkins that the server provided. I mean, I know they gave us the cocktail napkins, but those don't really cover my lap and I tend to be a messy eater so I need protection for my dresses. And that protection usually means regular sized napkins. read more

Finding flavorful and delicious Indian food had been a huge challenge for me when I moved to the Boulder area from Cincinnati 3 years ago (I know, I know: Cincinnati seems an unlikely city for amazing Indian cuisine, but trust me - soooo many fantastic restaurants) -- that is, until we stumbled upon Gurkhas. We tried them all, too! Tandoori Grill, Himalayas, Taj, Dushanbe Tea House, Royal Peacock (now India Clay Oven), Sherpa's, Maharaja... there were probably more! We were constantly left unsatisfied due to the lack of spice and flavor in our dishes. I know I'll return to a restaurant if they have delicious matar paneer and garlic naan. Probably not the best way to judge a restaurant; certainly not the most fair and well-rounded criteria, but there you go. Matar paneer is one of the loves of my life. Thankfully, Gurkhas passed the test. I was hooked from the first bite (still not as delicious as my favorite places in Cincinnati, but close!) I typically order takeout from Gurkhas, which on average takes them about 30 minutes to get to the front counter. I consider myself a regular, placing orders nearly once a week. The staff are quite friendly. They know what I'm going to order as soon as I tell them who is calling and I am always greeted with friendly smiles and polite, interesting conversation. My only complaint is that they have taken matar paneer off their menu! Can you believe that?! I couldn't! Saddest day of my life. Ever! Thank goodness they still let me order it off-menu, but the price was raised a few bucks. :( A bummer for someone who frequents their business. Sigh. Oh well... could be worse, I suppose! read more

This is my favorite Indian place in Boulder and even beats Kathmandu on a few items. It is tucked back in the corner of the office park so I hope more people find out about this place. I was walking by and nothing was open, I stumbled upon this place and I'm glad I did. It truly surprised by the quality and the service. Every dish I had was immaculately prepared and the taste was second to none. Definitely a diamond in the rough. My husband and I recently moved to the Gunbarrel area and have eaten here twice so far. I was hesitant because of some of the reviews, but since it is next to the gym we decided to give it a try. Our first time we ate in the restaurant and I'd give it 4.5 stars for our experience. The food was very good and we were both very happy. Service was a bit slow considering how few people were there, but it was fine as we were not in a hurry. The second time around, we got our food to go. We both got the tika saag with chicken since it was so amazingly good the first time we came in. Our food was ready on time and that was fine. But, the food didn't taste quite as good as it had before and my chicken was a little dry. It was still good, just not what we were expecting based on our first experience. Nice casual place to check out when you want a simple but good Indian lunch buffet. Located in a shopping center near Gunbarrel, Gurkhas offers a spacious and well it ambience during your meal. The food was great and a lot of the dishes were vegan except for the chicken dishes. They had the common ones, Lentil Dal, Curry vegetables, Samosas, and Penkora (probably misspelled) were all delicious. They also had rice and lo mein type noodles. Unfortunately the dessert, salad, and condiment section were not labelled at all- not sure why. They had a carrot dessert, Khir, and Gulab Jamen. They also had different chutneys, and some basic salad. Staff was good about taking our plates and re-filling water. They also bring each table a bowl full of naan.
