We are into our 8th year of home ownership, having undergone a full gut renovation of our home, new roof, siding, deck, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, home additions/ extensions etc, we've had at least a dozen contractors working on our home over the years-most were great- some ok, and a maybe one bad. Pete and the team at Gus Pools are hands down the best contractors we've ever worked with-- period. Honest, reliable, incredibly responsive and fairly priced. (In fact their prices are too reasonable and should be raised!) Just nice, decent folks you don't see much of these days. His recommendations were also fantastic- we used his mason, Eddie who was also amazing. And his architect Genarro Finelli. I saw some negative posts by a few haters about not being able to get Gus to service certain people's pools, because they weren't built by Gus. He was so personable, gave us all the information we needed about size and placement of the pool, as well as other things we would need to do regarding electric and plumbing. We felt his price was very reasonable after getting other estimates for pools that were not even in-ground, and there was no pressure for us to make a decision due to "time of year" or "their schedule filling up". He was always available to answer any questions we had and even invited us over to see his pool if we wanted. Ultimately, we decided a pool was not going to work for us as I have mobility issues and was looking for something to use year-round for exercise, so we went with a Swim Spa. I had my pool installed two years ago, this is a follow up review, I had some minor issues this season once opened, nothing that had to do with the service. I called them and Pete came by as fast as humanly possible ( he may have been wearing a cape, not too sure) and resolved and corrected everything. These guys are the absolute best. I live in modest house in Brooklyn with a modest backyard 30x40. I wanted a semi-inground pool for my kids to enjoy. We are not the waterfalls and waterside fire-pit kind of pool people (but Pete can do that if you want). Just a simple pool assembled and dug down into my dirt backyard guspools.com/gallery-3/s... . I started doing a ton of research and accidentally (Just Googling "Brooklyn semi-inground pools" is not easy to find Gus Pools, I guess because he's in Queens, near Nassau) and luckily came across Gus Pools and Pete (son of Gus). The short story is I was nervous being a lifelong Brooklynite and trusting anyone with that kind of job and money. From Bonnie in the office who communicated clearly, to Pete, the owner who oversaw the entire job on site and got his hands dirty with his seasoned crew when needed, they installed my pool with no issues in two days. No hidden costs and in fact surprised me with extras I totally didn't expect. Pool is great, really can't believe I own one now, and I totally feel like I paid a fair price. Highly recommend Gus Pools. The longer story is about how you really need to do your research if you want a pool and spend what I consider serious money. Gus Pools was the 5th place I called. Without directly naming the other four, let's just say The #1 pool seller in Brooklyn recommended a long time installer on Long Island who I called twice, a week apart, and left clear detailed messages and they never returned my calls. The popular guys on Staten Island said their excavator people would call me to discuss an estimate and never did. The popular Mill Basin people asked me to take pictures of my yard and send measurements which I took the time to do and they ignored me, kind of antsy for a pool, I followed up with them against my better judgement and they said, "yes we got the pictures, our contractor will get back to you with an estimate", they never did. A well reviewed Brooklyn installer has "downsized" and no longer installs pools, only does repairs, which led me to Gus Pools. Checked out their website and was excited because they had pics of modest pools exactly like I needed so I called. Bonnie (I guess it was her) answered the phone, I explained my situation, and she said, "okay I'll pass the information to Pete, but it may take a couple days for him to get back to you." Within a day Pete called back and said he'd come out to look at the property and discuss plans and give me an estimate. He showed up when he said he would. Communication was excellent, in English, none of that "don't worry my friend, I'll take care of you" nonsense, you know what I'm talking about. Price was fair, comparable to what I expected based on prior research. I called in May, late in the installation season, and he was honest and told me he couldn't do the job until August. Which I accepted and he installed my pool in August, to his word and to his estimated price. Mind you that price included everything, excavation, dumpster, pool, pool assembly, liner, pump, filter, ladder, some accessories and even some basic training on how to use all this new stuff! If you are looking for a pool and you're going to spend thousands, have some peace of mind, make one call and just call Gus Pools. Some bullet point tips. - Call early, like Sept through Feb, if you want to be ready for the NEXT summer season - You'll need a fence by law, surrounding your pool, so plan ahead, but you'll need to leave room for the excavator. - After the pool is installed, there will be muddy mound around your beautiful new pool, think ahead about what you're going to walk on to get to your pool, grass (too slow to grow), pavers, deck, rock, a piece of cardboard, etc - get lights for the pool if you can afford it. The temptation to night swim happens the first night after the pool is installed. - teach yourself how to use the pump, filter, chemicals, vacuum BEFORE the pool is finished so you're not a total noob on day one. Youtube is a great tool, but not gospel. Heed the installers advice. read more

We recently had Gus Pools install an inground pool and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. Pete and his team were excellent! We did a lot of research on who to use but after meeting with him, knew Gus Pools was the best choice. From consulting us in size, specs and even pavers, this was a great experience. It took less than a week for the pool to be framed out and the final install took place shortly afterward. I reached out via yelp to Gus Pools on May 17, 2018 inquiring about their availability within the next week or so for a pool opening. I quickly received a yelp message stating they were booked. I didn't trust the quick response so I decided to call today to see what I would be told via phone. A (not so friendly) woman answered the phone and yet again I inquired about a pool opening. The woman then asks "did we build the pool"? To which I responded I do not know because in my head I'm thinking what is the relevancy? She proceeds to ask the address then says they are only servicing pools that have been built by the company because of their lack of man power - she also mentioned that they have a number of employees who have quit. LOL! With that said, it's clear that they were NOT BOOKED as I had been told in the private message but rather experiencing inside issues.
