Living in Moosup/Plainfield means there are very little options available to us for dining out locally. We decided to give Gus' Pizzarama of Plainfield a go a few months ago and I am just not finally on here to write up my review. It was a busy night there, but we were seated promptly. They seem to have a young man that acts as a "Drink Waiter" and then Real waiters that take your food order. By the time our Real Waiter came over, she asked if we ordered our drinks yet, we said no -- the young man heard that and come over as well - So while we were attempting to place our food order, he was also talking to us asking what we wanted to drink - AT THE SAME TIME As the other waitress. I finally had to speak up and be like "What is going on?! We have two people talking to us at the same time, can we not do this??" So, he waited for us to order. They had Prime Rib, and rave about it, and I LOVE Prime Rib -- Being so busy, and kind of late in the evening, I took the time to ask the waitress to go back and ask the Chef if he did in fact have a piece of extra Rare prime rib left, because I only like it Extra Rare. Otherwise I would order something else. She came back and said they do. So, having done my part, I ordered the prime rib. My husband got a calzone. When our food arrived, my prime rib was easily Medium - not medium rare, Medium. I asked the waitress about it and she brought it back to the kitchen and then another server came back with it and said that was the rarest they had. Um ok.... I asked BEFORE HAND if you had extra rare... and they said Yes. So they Lied. My Husbands Calzone was COLD on the inside. We have never had a calzone that wasn't STEAMING when you cut it open... I make them at home, and its Always way to hot to eat when its cooked properly. When we were done, and had paid - I asked the waitress to let the cooks know that they should not lie to customers about what they do and don't have when we ask in advance. She got defensive with me and said that it wasn't her fault. I told her that I understand that, that is why I requested she talked to the cook about it, because he is the one that LIED TO ME. I told her that this was our first and LAST visit to this restaurant - which is a shame because in a town with about a handful of restaurants, even mediocre restaurants would get frequent visits just because they are close by. But not this one. I say stay away, unless you like being Lied to, crappy food, and crappy service. read more

I read the other reviews and thought id give it a try. I sure wish I didnt. I thought I couldnt go wrong with a burger and fries. The burger was still frozen in places and the fries looked like the cook went to take a cigarette brake to long and forgot them. I could have done better going to the grocery store, skipped the frozen food isle, made it myself, sat in a way better atmosephere, and saved a lot of money. I think the other reviewers need to get out of plainfield more and go to a real restaurant. But the service was ok. read more

The best clam strips and seafood platter we have had anywhere! The fish was so fresh, light and flaky. We love the stuffed mushrooms, too, although they need to add a little more butter because they're a bit dry without it. We will definitely return! read more

For about 30 years I have been going to Gus Pub in Plainfield. I went there last Tuesday night and was reminded of why I like the place so much. His pizzas are wonderful. He never skimps on the ingredients. Always fresh and done perfectly. A pizza and a cold beer is just what was needed. Gus also serves a full menu of American and Greek specialties and has a great kids menu. A wonderful family restaurant that has a friendly atmosphere and an attentive wait staff. I grew up in Plainfield so I've had the food here more times than I can count. The pizza here has always been rather sub-par with greasy cheese and unsatisfying toppings. The saving grace, however, has always been the subs (or as the locals call them "grinders"), particularly the sausage variety. Which is something I very much wish I could get in other environs where the sub market tends to be dominated by chains. read more

Ambiance, service, etc, are all just okay. HOWEVER the sauce they use for their pasta and hot grinders is amazing and I can totally overlook how sub par everything else is on the menu because the sauce is great. Its obvious that its either home made or they at least doctor up premade stuff. In North Eastern CT its unheard of to find a red sauce that has flavor beyond "tomato" and of all places, I wouldn't expect to find it here. I can't really speak for much else because almost every time I come here I get a sausage grinder with sauce and cheese and am never disappointed. read more

Plainfield Pizzarama (same place as the Pub) is a Really Great Pizza Place. Let me tell you a little secret about the fries - don't just order fries, order "HOME FRIES" and instead of common frozen potatoes they'll start with a REAL potato. What you'll get are thick slabs fried golden brown. They used to be printed on the menu and they're not anymore but you can still get them if you know about them. If you order by phone and the waitress isn't sure or can't find it, you can tell her it's near the bottom of the choices in the computer. That can speed things up. Here's another secret: If you don't like the answer, the service, or the food you get, ask for Dino. He's nearly always there. Dino will take care of everything. Dino will even create something. For instance, suppose you need a vegan option, ask for Shepard's pie with just mashed potatoes and vegetables. Tell him what your dietary needs are, and don't be surprised if he thinks of something yummy. read more

My wife and I had lunch today and loved it.The place is very comfortable and clean.I wish I knew our waitresses name because she was awesome and deserves recognition.We had wings for starters and they were very good and flavorful.I had the baked scrod with mashed potatoes and was very happy with the quality and serving size. Very disappointed , I have gone to Gus's a few times over the years and the last time I went to pick up my order a grinder, they couldn't find it right away, then Dino found a Grinder that a customer had returned ( which was my order) you know they picked through it, anyways the waitress told him it was a return they didn't want it, he then told me he found my grinder hiding the fact it was a return, I had heard the waitress tell him it was a return but he didn't care ,he told me it was fine and not a return the waitress repeated her story to him, but he bagged it up and sold it to me under protest, needless to say I haven't been back , that not the only story about Gus'es Pub read more

Everything we got was delicious! We tried 2 orders of the appetizer clam cakes - cooked perfectly and seasoned and salted perfectly also. She got the clam chowder was thick and fresh. For the kids - the boy got the kids meal burger and it was TREMENDOUS. It would have filled me up and I am not a small guy. The girl got the chicken tenders and they were more like cutlets. There were four huge cutlets each the size you would see as a main chicken course at a restaurant. She had one that night and the other 3 we were able to use the next day, EACH for chicken sandwiches. Us - we both got the gyro sandwich. Risky at a place like this, huh? One of the absolute best gyros I have ever had. Each of our meals came with sides of french fries and to say each was a generous portion would be a HUGE understatement. Between the four of us, collectively, we must have had approx two of those frozen bags of french fries that you get in the grocery store. The kids got juice, my wife a beer, and I got a soda. The WHOLE meal (2 appetizers, 2 kids meals, 2 adult entrees/sandwiches, 3 drinks, and 1 beer) came to $35. This place is awesome. OH, and they are SUPER friendly there. read more

Just ate there and they had the best fried clams I have had in a very long time. My boyfriend had the BBQ spare ribs and the meat fell off the bone. The restaurant was small but the servings were large and the prices were perfect.. I would definitely recommend it. read more

First timer at Gus's Pub. My fiance and I were out running errands prior to work that day, we hadn't eaten all day, so he suggested to go here. We ordered the fries and a large California pizza. He ordered a coke and I a diet Snapple, which the waitress was super awesome about cause she named all the ones they had and did so in a speed that one could process the information. She put our fries in as an appetizer, so we could start munching. They came out hot, timely and delicious...she cleared our dishes away, set up new dishes, got him a second coke, and out came the pizza. Right away my fiance could smell it was burnt. We inspected it. The underside was burnt on half the pizza. Being that we were hungry, and had a time restraint, I told him not to return it, I would eat the burnt pieces, and he could eat the other half. The waitress came over to ask how the pizza was, and he politely whispered, it's burnt. He showed her, she did say she could smell it, so kindly asked if we would like to send it back, we told her no, we were hungry and had to get to work soon after. She apologized, and offered up a reason, maybe there was a hot spot in the oven, causing the one side to be burnt and not the other. She went off to her duties and assisted other patrons. So we started to split it up and plate or pieces. I ate my first piece and he was about half way threw, with his, and I noticed he had eaten the crust end first, leaving the skinny end on the plate. He was done, I thought he was full, so I was going to eat the rest of his piece so as not to waste. And cause, I'm a glutton, He said "don't eat that, the dough is not cooked, you can get sick from eating raw dough." So we had a large ( which was actually pretty small) pizza that was half burnt, and half doughy...the waitress came back apologized once again, and said she took off the charge of the drinks and the fries, which was nice, BUT- we enjoyed the drinks and fries, it was the pizza we were not happy about. To no fault of the waitress, we didn't bother to tell her the pizza was uncooked on the half that wasn't burnt, we packed up the rest of the pizza, paid the bill and left. Later at work my fiance asked me how I was feeling (as he always does, cause he is so attentive and caring) and I told him I had wicked bad heart burn, and his response, " so it's not just me, " the little bit of pizza that we did eat, was coming back to haunt us...a few tums, and all was well...except the experience, - that left a bad taste in our mouths- literally. We probably won't go back there, nor will we recommend it to others that we care for ,maybe suggest it to someone that we don't like. For now we will stick to what we like best and that is Classic Pizza in Danielson, CT. About 20 minutes up the road-the pizza there is ALWAYS delicious. read more
