This experience really is not worth commenting on, but here it goes. I ordered the tenderloin sandwich. It arrived as a small tenderloin, two pieces of toast cut in half, fries and nothing else. I sat there for over half an hour. I thought, "Hell, maybe she will bring fixins and I will have two small sandwiches. She finally come back, I asked about the sandwich, and she told me it was an open face sandwich. I said ma'am this is a small steak and fries and she began to lecture me about not asking about the meal when I ordered it. I asked why would I ask when it clearly stated tenderloin sandwich. She also told me it had been that way 40 years. Well, it has been wrong for 40 years. I would have forged ahead and ate it if it was edible. It was absolutely terrible. It had the consistency of liver and was fried hard on the outside and completely flavorless. I said let me pay and get out of here. She stomped off to talk to the owner whom was the guy I had observed drinking a lot of wine at the end of the bar. He told her I had to pay for it because I ate the meal and if I still had a problem, to speak to him. I did not eat it. Heck, I even tried to pay for the garbage before she stomped off. Since I did not eat it, I asked to speak to him. He would not come to the table and instead showed his pride and customer service and motioned to me to walk across the place to speak to him at the bar while he continued to suck down wine. He said again, you ate it, you'll pay for it. Again, I told him I did not eat it. Once sippy mcsipperson realized I did not eat it, he said I had to pay for it because I ordered it. Moving the goal posts! Dude was drunk! Lol I told him the waitress was extremely rude and argumentative. He told me he was going to beat her for it. Then he proceeded to tell me I was full of it because his tenderloin was his most famous and desired steak and everyone loved it. He said Montana was known for beef and asked where I was from. Montana might raise beef but this not so fine establishment could not cook beef to save its life. Even after I paid the bill the waitress continued to bother me about it as I was trying to leave. If you want to waste your money, you can play the machines or but a meal at Gusick's. Good luck and godspeed. read more

Love this place. A true local gem. Most people flock to Texas road house down the street, for a steak, NOT ME. This place is where the Cowboys eat ;) t-bones, chicken fried, breaded veal, fried chicken ,cube steak, halibut...it's all here (and better than the "big chains") Word of advice when a rodeo is in town, this place is packed. With all the good surrounding restaurants this place is just average. I had a tuna sandwich. Nothing notable. The beef barley soup was pretty good. No atmosphere at all. Meats were wonderful! Soup was VERY flavorful! Mashed potatoes literally had no flavor. But I would go back. Service was okay, but we had a very dingy waitress, she forgot things, got orders mixed up AND thought it was okay to share her opinion on politics " Joe Biden? I don't even know what he looks like!' ( this just told me she wasn't the brightest on the block which her skills already displayed). Her comment was completely out of the blue when we were speaking of our son's major which is Political Science. It was a complete turn off for me to have such a waitress. Save yourself the headache and belly ache and eat anywhere but here. Rude staff, even the owner was unable to be polite due to his level of intoxication. The food was awful, and apparently sandwiches listed on the menu are not actually sandwiches, when asking for clarification was confronted by wait staff who said " you should have asked the question before ordering " really never in my 45 years have I been unable to read the description on a menu and not understand the word sandwich. The plate arrived with meat and a single slice of toast on the side..I was told I could make it a sandwich if I wanted to, umm no sandwiches have two pieces of bread not the one I was provided with. My husband & I have been coming to this restaurant for many years and still enjoy their food & the employees. The owners are there working every day along with the employees which we see as a positive. The daily specials are delicious and the evening dining is what we look forward to when we are in town. This restaurant was. TERRIBLE. My family and I will never come here again. I have a service dog and they were extremely rude to me; asking about her papers and purpose. We had to make it known that it is illegal to ask a service animals job. The only thing they may ask is if she is a service dog (if she's covered or fully unidentified). Out of the 6 members, each with a different meal, 3 of us got astoundingly sick. After calling to inform the restaurant that their burger meat might be defective, we were run off the phone. After a long car ride, we stopped at Gussick's for dinner. The area was jammed with chain restaurants, but we always opt for local places. We ordered halibut, burgers, and steaks. The burgers were average, the halibut was bland (and EXPENSIVE), the strip steak was great. If you plan in going out for steaks, Gussick's gets 4 stars. The ambiance drags down the ratings. The decor and vibe of the restaurant is akin to a Denny's. if I'm going to spend $25 on a steak, I want a tablecloth and low lighting. The adjacent bar was full if blinking casino machines. Good quality food and good quality folks. The owners work here every day and are out talking to the patrons. The servers are friendly, the bathrooms clean, and the food good. It's not cheap (there's a steak sandwich on the lunch menu for $18!!!). It used to be a tremendous value but prices have risen as they should have when you have people lined out the door to get in. How do you control demand? Raise the price! A couple of pork chop sammiches for us with drinks and tip was almost $30. That's a little spendy for lunch at a place with cafeteria-style tables and chairs. But man oh man those battered pork chops are a little slice of heaven! Served piping hot where it takes your breath away, these juicy treasures are so dang delicious they should be against the law. To save $5, just order tap water. Great food!! read more

Seriously one of the best chicken wings in town! My husband orders the wings almost wherever we go, this is one of his top favorites. They are crispy kind, not the saucy kind, if that makes sense. This is a good place to stop in while on shopping trip to Billings, (super easy access to the interstate ) or you want to get your beef fix. They have excellent steaks and hamburgers. One of the ways to tell this is a great beef joint is to notice all the ranchers who eat here. That speaks volumes. The portions are good sized, so go hungry. Chicken is my preferred choice and they do a good job with that as well. Another reason we like to patronize this restaurant is that this is a Montana restaurant. In Billings, you will find any number of "chains" but if you are looking for local food, try this instead. They are closed on Sundays to honor their employees, another great reason to like them. read more

A running narrative of my dining experience...I was told upon entering that they do not serve dinner at the bar...when asked why, no one really had an answer...there were a number of tables open, but the hostess brings me to the table at the entrance to the kitchen...I normally don't think about those things, yet I will now...upon each waitress passing behind me they yell "COMING IN" apparently warning any servers in their blind spot of their coming in...it also, by the end of the meal, installed a ptsd response in me. The food was not much better...the Navy bean soup of the day was perhaps the saltiest liquid I've ever consumed...and I love diners. The turkey tasted like turkey loaf...whether it not it was, I cannot say for certain...overall this entire visit was a mess...there are a lot of other dining options in the area...I would encourage people to explore those. read more

Out of a party of 5 adults & 3 kids we had a mixed experience. Prime rib was a 4 - not as large as the waitress said but tasted good. Horseradish was excellent. Cheeseburger deluxe was a disappointment - really nothing special. We rate it a 1 for lack of anything deluxe. Finger steaks were great - definitely a 5. Hot turkey and French dip sandwiches were 4s. Nothing great but good taste with good size for cost. Gravy was superb on potatoes as well as turkey sandwich. Not kid friendly but roomy and quick service. read more

I was unimpressed with the friendliness of the staff. The meal was fine, New York steak was cooked fine but little flavor. The decor and ambience was very out dated, late 70's. I think the basic rule of dining is: Eat locally raised food in restaurants where locals eat. When in Maine, have the lobster. In Montana, it's beef all the way! Don't be seduced by chains with their billboards and neon signs visible from the Highway; that isn't true Montana. Instead, drive around and look for a restaurant with a parking lot so full, it can't be bothered to update its flat, decades-old facade. Gusick's parking lot is an enormous patch with room to turn a pickup and loaded horse trailer and that is exactly what is parked there. Where you see good old "utility" vehicles with out of County plates, you'll find the best beef (the one exception is Suds Hut which barely has room to maneuver a Volkswagen). Gusick's does beef, and does it perfectly. This is where you go to "cure" a vegetarian! My family jokes that everything else on the table is just garnish and you aren't expected to eat it. It's true. They are masters of meat and all side dishes are crap, but who cares? You're here for the meat! Good choice. read more

I eat here every week. I have for years. I don't care about decor, especially after getting a huge slab of steak on my plate. It's always hot and cooked properly. I recommend the bacon wrapped ground sirloin for lunch and any steak for dinner. Make sure you enter hungry, you will leave full. Oh, their chef's salad is excellent too. read more

Whoa !!!! Before you enter this restaurant.... if you're looking for a tasty steak...don't go "here"!! We thought we were coming to a great local steakhouse, have been savoring the idea of finally tasting Montana's superb steaks that we've heard others rave about. When we cut into the steak served, and took the first bite there was absolutely no taste. It was the most bland bite of steak I've ever tasted. We tried another bite after adding salt to no avail. The tenderloin part of the T-bone steak was over cooked while the other part of the steak was cooked to order, medium rare. We told the server. The Friendly demeanor that we saw when we first came in and ordered, quickly changed to offensive. As we waited for more than 15 minutes for her to return to our table she finally did and rudely informed us she was waiting for the manager to make a decision on the bill. Finally after waiting a bit longer we got up and went up to the desk where the manager was to inquire. The managers mother was extremely hostile toward us, pacing the lobby area, fists clenched, steaming mad, as if we had personally insulted her! Amoung her many outbursts she rudely stated we should return to Washington to eat our stakes! The manager told her twice at least that he would handle the situation and as she left she said "You won't be working here anymore!!" it was her son that was The manager. UnFortunately I can't say anything positive about my experience with Mark the manager either. He told us we had to pay the entire bill even though we took barely a few bites of the steak. We offered to pay for the part of the meal that we actually ate. He refused to make any kind of adjustment to the bill and called the police. He said we were on "his turf", "he" made the decisions! So we waited. In the meantime while we waited, the manager said he has had hundreds of situations like this happen and that we would be forced to pay the bill in full. Interesting ..... really? Hundreds of dissatisfied customers....?!? The policeman finally came. We explained the situation to the policeman and then he went over and talked with the manager, and inspected the steak in question, and noting too that is was bearly touched. The situation was resolved with the policeman's help and we paid for only what we ate...as we had offered to do at the onset. read more
