The staff here is amazing, we came in for a late lunch and sat wherever we wanted. We ordered the coconut shrimp skewers, market salad, crab cakes, and local burger with their fries. The food was phenomenal! My husband and I went and got the chef burger, and their creation was absolutely delicious. The foods felt like high quality, and our waitress was on top of it. I don't live in Billings, but I did for most of my life. If there's anything Billings has generally lacked, it's opportunities to find GREAT food in a nice place. Graded on a curve, the Local is knocking it out of the park. Interesting menu, with great options. Everyone at our table left full and happy. I didn't show up properly hungry, and split a burger with another person. Not only did they split it for us, they gave us each an egg, a decent stack of fries, AND didn't add a charge on the check. Didn't expect any of that, and was very impressed. Beer options were decent, too. Only knock is the tiny size of the place, but that probably adds to the charm. I'll be back. read more

For appetizers, we ordered the Brussel Sprouts. These were served in a delicious coconut curry sauce. We joked about taking the leftover sauce home and serving with rice for lunch the next day. We saw an order of the coconut shrimp appetizers come out of the kitchen and had to have those as well. You can't go wrong with either of these! For our mains, we had the leg of lamb, the Tuscan shrimp, and the game hen. All three were perfectly cooked and the sides served with the lamb and hen were just as scrumptious as the meat. The shrimp was on a bed of pasta with a lemony cream sauce with Cherry tomatoes, spinach and basil. The best pasta I've had in a long time. We finished with the warm chocolate cake! All 3 of us commented on this being the best meal with the best service. CJ was extremely personable and checked in with us often to see if we needed anything or if there was anything he could do. Food is locally sourced, and varies. Please go to their website to find out what they have, or not. Why? Because you cannot go wrong here. A salad of the day, with a delightful mix of greens, cucumber, tomato, radish and onion is taken up (more than a couple of notches) by bacon (God's nearly perfect seasoning), pistachios (probably locally supplied, unlikely to be grown in Billings, maybe California), and ,a you'll only get it here, carrot ginger dressing. (Hubby ate it, I tried it. He stopped short of licking the plate). I ordered the roasted corn chowder, they have to cook some elements and add per order, because the potatoes aren't gruel, and the onions were crunchy which was perfect. This was so delicious. Entrees-he ordered the braised Buffalo short ribs, I had the Sushi Poke Bowl (yes Montana is landlocked, but we have airports). My new favorite bowl is wonton, and I can't say anything about the bowl but fresh and yummy! Wait, one thing....a ton of ahi tuna, like a ton, very filling-unless you share (I did not share, I offered once, he said not yet, too late-gone. About the ribs-The bones slipped away from the meat, and there was some heat in them (which was perfect). Let's talk dietary constraints...since they make everything, and describe it in detail, I think this would be an optimum choice for a group...especially one that is....picky. I do recommend reservations, because it's not a huge place...and they aren't rushy-you can relax and eat. We were on the porch that was adequately heated, spotlessly clean. I have been eating here at least once a month for the last two years and I had guests come in from 1300 miles away we order the buffalo short ribs which were so tough we couldn't even cut in to take a bite , It was like rubber honest to God very disappointing and the waitress kept apologizing and we kept saying it's not your fault then the chef came to the table these people really have gone from a 10 to a negativeone they should've never charges for this as we did not eat anything and we will never go back there again that's too bad cause it was some of the best food I ever had before read more

I came here with a group of friends on June 16th. I understand that restaurants are having a hard time finding enough staff - I don't understand why the server we had thought it was okay to be rude to us because he was having a hard time. We had to ask numerous times for coffee and to-go boxes, he messed up three checks and got mad when it was pointed out to him and requested that he fix it. He overcharged my mom by more than $20; his ultimate solution was to say "here, take my tip!" and throw a $20 bill in her direction before he stalked off. The food looked pretty good and everyone was satisfied - except me. I ordered the game hen. It was overcooked and really dry inside. The mushroom bread pudding almost made up for it though. I'd probably go back - as long as I don't get the same server. The food wasn't good enough to put up with that again. read more

The waitress disappeared, rude and couldn't be bothered to answer menu questions. Never asked to refill drinks, never checked back. I can understand I they were busy but it wasn't She dumped the bill and disappeared, we had to take it up to the counter to pay. Ordered take away Friday at 5:30. When picked up there was no one in this restaurant who was wearing a mask. Cooks not masked, waitresses not masked and cashier not masked. No customers were masked, there was no distancing of their tables. While I understand masks are no longer required in Montana, the CDC still recommends them. It is clear the management does not value their patrons health. I was very disappointed in their attitide and will no longer frequent Local Kitchen and Bar. read more
