Amazing service, and even more amazing food. Would absolutely recommend this place. Zeus Platter is my favorite

Let me start with the negative, and it is a big one. My wife and I wanted to come here maybe a year ago and we didn't get around to it until today. Huge mistake. This place is freakin' delicious. So, we had a great meal from the food truck once. And Gussy's catered a wine pairing dinner at Peak of the Vine in Apex which was spectacular. We decided then we had to visit the brick and mortar location, but one thing after another delayed us until today. We went with our (adult) kids and everyone loved every bite. I had a new pork gyro and their amazing lemon rice (do not sleep on the lemon rice, it is a stealth amazing side), my wife had the fried shrimp platter and the shrimp was great. Somehow more shrimpy than most fried shrimp. I don't know what that means, but there you go. My daughter got the chicken gyro with fries and declared the fries her new favorite fries. The veggies were so crisp and fresh in the gyro that even though she finished all the chicken, she brought the last few bites of pita and veggies home because she didn't want to waste them. My son is a limited-taste eater, but was relieved to see some Italian classics on the menu. He went with his favorite sandwich, a chicken parmesan hero. He didn't have super high hopes for an amazing experience, because outside of a pizzeria chicken parm is usually just good, never great. But he was shocked, "This is better than most pizzerias. I'd have to get one here and one at Mezza Luna and have them side by side to judge them, it's that good." So yeah, Gussy's. Don't wait around like we did. If you find yourself close to RTP, plan lunch at Gusssy's. Or make the trip special during the week. You won't regret it. read more

This place is a bit unassuming, located in an older strip mall next to a Sheetz off Miami Blvd in Durham. There are a lot of great little shops in this plaza that deserve recognition--I never would have found them without a Yelp search. I walked in to get a quick takeout order because I had to be back for a meeting in 30 minutes. I almost left because there were about eight people ahead of me waiting to order. I also just started a keto diet, so I was hoping they had something I could actually eat. The menu looked incredible. If I weren't on this diet, I totally would have gotten the gyro and fries that I saw delivered to a nearby table; I was literally drooling. I settled for a Caesar salad to go. I forgot to ask for no croutons, but that is on me! It came with fresh pita and tzatziki, which looked and felt awesome. I tasted the tzatziki before giving them both away, and it was delicious--probably the best tzatziki I have tasted in a long time. For my salad protein, I chose the chicken skewers (you get two). The salad was dressed, and I had to sprint to my meeting. I opened it and took a bite at the office, and let's just say I kept my camera off and my microphone on mute for most of the call! The chicken had such good flavor, and the salad had a generous amount of shaved parmesan with a nice dressing. They also did what I always do with a Caesar: added lemon. There were two big wedges of lemon in the container, which provided that perfect extra hit of acid I always look for. While I didn't get to interact with everyone, the woman running the front of the house (and probably the back, too) was incredibly nice. I wish I experienced that kind of service everywhere I went; the world would be a much friendior place. I think I'll be a regular here. read more

I remember trying Gussy's when they were a food truck and had been meaning to visit their restaurant once it opened a while ago. The menu offers plenty of options, and I liked that the food was made to order. I had the Gyro Pita with Greek fries and feta, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meals too. The only downside was the price--although the portions were generous, it felt a little expensive for lunch. OMG, where do I start?! I called around 1:30 today to check on their food truck hours and the lady over the phone was sooooo sooo soooo nice! She told me the schedule and unfortunately the truck wasn't open today, however, that their storefront is open if I still wanted to stop in. They close at 2 and I told her I didn't want to place an order when they were about to close. She insisted it was ok and took my order. Got there in 10 min and it was ready. How had I never heard of Gussys before? Probably because Sheets blocks the view of what's in the shopping center. A friend took me here and I was just floored how good it was and how long it's been there. Passing by this place thousands of times but not once noticing it, makes you wonder if you ever paid attention to anything. Food was great, fries were generous and staff were helpful. We ordered gyros and fries but next time want to try the plates. This place also advertised a Greek Festival, which I'm curious what type of involvement they have. Do they sponsor it, did they create it, are they selling their food? At any rate, just love how decorated the place is and how it ties back to Greek culture. If you're traveling on TW Alexander, you must stop by! But, be warned that they are only open during small windows of the day. read more

Walked in to pick up a grubhub order and had to wait for it. When it was ready I said thank you to the guy behind the counter with short brown hair and have a nice day. I asked if there was a reason he wouldn't look or talk to me. Maybe it was because I interrupted him looking at his cell phone behind the register? He didn't greet me when I walked in and when I asked for a manager he said he was and I could leave. I asked for the owner and he said it again. I've been going to Gussy's Greek Place in Durham for the last 8 years and they've never let me down. The food is always fresh, packed with flavor, and made just right every single time. I always order the gyro Greek style with a side of Greek fries topped with feta cheese. That combo hits every time. The gyro is juicy and full of flavor, and the fries are perfectly seasoned with the feta giving them a nice salty finish that pulls everything together. The employees have always been great too. Gussy's is really good. I'm vegetarian and the falafel pita is a gem-- the pita is so soft, the tzatziki is yummy, and the veggies are fresh. Their fries are really good. However if you get a sandwich and fries, it is a bit pricey. I think the food often needs hot sauce, which they provide near the drink area. For how busy it is, the service is fast and good and the employees are nice. So happy to have this place as a lunch option ! read more

I LOVE IT HERE! The food is very well seasoned and yummy and the service is great. The French fries and always cooked to perfection and the chicken kabobs are flavorful and not dry at all (which happens with chicken breast sometimes). I wish that they were open longer so that I could eat here for dinner too, but it's a very solid lunch spot! read more

It was my second time eating here and this time I had to review them! I ordered the fried fish and substituted the sides for a spinach/orange/pecan salad. The fish was made perfectly! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. My husband eats lunch here often since it's located close to his work and he usually gets the Gyro sandwich, which he got this time as well. After sitting there for a few minutes, the owner approached me and said I was charged too much for my order and offered me my money back or some baklava (I chose the latter of course, which was a great decision). Service is fast, food is delicious, and always hot! I've been coming here for lunch and I'm very pleased with my experience. I haven't had anything that I didn't like so far. I've tried the fries(DELICIOUS), gyro pita, chicken pita, pita bread with tzatziki, and the Zeus platter. All were a 10/10 for me. They have a seating area inside that is pretty spacious with some cute Greek-themed decor. The only thing I will say is that on their menu they only advertise FULL portion sides for $6. You have to ask for a HALF portion side that is $3. The $6 side comes with soooo much food like an entire container's worth. You definitely only need the $3 side unless you're starving or sharing it. I wish they advertised the $3 side too because it's cheaper and comes with plenty. Plus, you can get fries and a salad for $6 instead of fries and a salad for $12. Anyway give them a try ;) read more

Chicken parm out of this world! Before I took a bite I knew it would be. The best part of this place though is the cashier... Miriam. She is like a ray of light. So friendly and just exudes joy. I have been obsessed with greek fiesta for the longest. (yes i know. boo me. whatever) but I now live too far away from greek fiesta to go there as frequently I want. I started looking for more mediterranean restaurants in my area and stumbled across Gussy's. From the pictures I could already tell the food was gonna be BOMB! The young man at the register was very kind and attentive. He helped me find the platter that I wanted because I didn't see it on the menu, which was much appreciated! My food was absolutely DELICIOUS. I'm not gonna lie, most times at greek fiesta I don't eat all my food. Gussy's on the other hand...I literally demolished my food. It was so good that I kept eating even when I was full. The salad was fresh, the dressing was perfect, my chicken skewers were cooked and seasoned perfectly, fries were on point, and the taziki sauce was the cherry on top! Sorry for such a long review. First time customer and I was so happy I decided to try it out. I called in an order and the lady on the phone was so sweet and kind. I arrived in 5 minutes to pick up my food and it was on the counter ready to go. The lady at the register (I'm sure it was the same one who took my phone order) was so kind and made small conversation. I ordered the gyro pita with a side of Greek fries. This place was delicious. The service was friendly and the staff seemed to know all the customers! Super warm and welcoming. Wouldn't expect the interior from looking at the outside. I had the lamb gyro and substituted the lettuce with fries. The fries alone were amazing and well seasoned with oregano and sea salt. There was ample amount of meat and the tzatziki sauce on top was a great compliment. It costed me 8.60 including tax with no drink. This food is fantastic! Our first time here, but it will NOT be our last. We had a chicken type soup with a strong cream base. The flavor was a delicious. Rich. Creamy. Hint of lemon. My wife had the classic gyro sandwich and loved it. I got a pork steak meal with a lemon rice. The pork was tender, flavorful, and huge. The rice carried a lemon hint, and was perfect. I did not specifically ask, but everything tasted like it was scratch made. We think the pita bread may have been, as well. Soft, warm, and tasted awesome. We ordered two orders of the Greek fries. Yes, yes and yes again. I've been searching for some good Greek food in this area and up until today I've been disappointed. Finally checked out this spot which is located in a strip mall, of sorts, on 70. Fingers crossed I went in and was surprised to see so many patrons hanging out and still eating so close to the place's closing time of 2pm. As soon I got halfway through the restaurant, I immediately greeted by the very friendly woman behind the counter. I figured I'd start with something I expect to be good, a gyro, on my first visit. So I ordered it "Greek style" which replaces the romaine lettuce with a handful of Greek fries. While waiting, the nice lady and I started talking about travel plans and the next thing I knew, my order was ready. I got home and after one bite, I knew I'd be back. It was SO good! The meat was tender and the flavors from the fries, tzatziki and other toppings blended perfectly. I'm glad she gave a me loyalty punch card because I'll definitely soon be on my way to free meal. Can't wait to try more. The ONLY thing I wish was different is the hours. They're only open from 11am - 2pm M-F. Wish it was longer. read more

It's super close to work and I finally went over for a quick lunch. I noticed that they had a good number of vegetarian items on their menu. I went with the Falafel Pita Sandwich. The service was great and the lady (I think was the owner) was super sweet and friendly. The price of the single wrap seemed a little bit steep to me but since it was my first time I wanted to give it a shot. It was around $11. The food was prepared pretty quick and I was given a buzz on the pager. The sandwich looked great. I was a little underwhelmed by the falafel pieces as they were pretty dry. I think I would have enjoyed the vegetarian pita a little bit better. The veggies in the falafel pita were fresh and delicious. I added a bit of the hot sauce and it was good. I would like to try some other items there that seemed to be much larger in quantity for a better price (based off what I saw at the other tables.) I've had falafel sandwiches at a few other places in the area and they've been better and maybe a little cheaper as well. I'll be back though to try others and will update the review when I do. read more

We've seen their food truck at previous events and finally made it to their brick-and-mortar location for lunch. Looks like they do a lot of business with nearby RTP companies so they are not open for dinner. It's a fast casual restaurant with a set menu and some specials. The staff is friendly and from what I heard in line, they try to accommodate dietary and food requests. We placed our orders at the counter and took a number. We were soon served our hummus appetizer, and our salad and entree followed soon after. Must be their food truck background that helps speed up orders. My souvlaki platter was very good and plentiful (i took some of it home). My wife enjoyed her Greek salad and was also full. Keep up the good work, Gussy's. PS, I think our cashier said the drinks were complimentary when she handed us two plastic cups. Maybe someone else can confirm if drinks are complimentary with your orders. read more
