We had a great family lunch at Gustav's. The service was awesome and the food was good. The restaurant was clean and kid friendly.

After a three day trip in the Enchantments, our crew of 8 was hungry for some burgers and beers! We were looking for a place in Leavenworth that served both and ended up at Gustav's. This was my second time at Gustav's, the first being a few years back. I remembered the food being mediocre at best, but I was so starving I figured anything would satisfy. We arrived just before the dinner rush and had no problem getting a table on the roof outside. Yay for outdoor seating! Unfortunately, this is where the list of positives end. The food here is pricey. Burgers start at around $12 and don't include fries, which you can add for another $4-7! Crazy! I live in Seattle which is an overpriced metropolis and even thought it was expensive. A beer will be at least $6. This better be a damn good burger, we all thought. I was debating between the pepper jack burger and the fish and chips so I asked our server for her opinion. She immediately tried to upsell the prime rib sandwich which was the most expensive sandwich on the menu. I was pretty disappointed that she couldn't tell me anything about my original two considerations, and eventually decided on the burger with the help of my friends. Everyone's fries came out and the large size was barely bigger than the small. They were all literally unseasoned and we had to ask for every condiment in the book and pass the salt around nonstop. My meal was fine but not worth the money I paid. The burger bun was too soft for my liking. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it at all if I wasn't needing food so badly. I'd rather hit up a small roadside diner and get a better meal for a fraction of the price, next time. read more

We recently took a short trip to Leavenworth, Washington. For dinner at Gustav's my husband and I wanted more traditional American food (we had German faire the first night). We started by ordering fried pickles and they were pretty tasty. My husband ordered a Cheeseburger and I ordered the Cordon Bleu Chicken Sandwich. I had the option of fried or grilled chicken and I chose grilled. We shared a small basket of fries. The Cheeseburger was just okay. The Cordon Bleu Chicken Sandwich was very bland. The fries were disappointing. They left the peels on and they were not crispy. As a side note, the waitress was very friendly and the restaurant interior was very nice. I don't know what happened to Gustav's in the last 6-8 months but whatever happened has not been for the better. We go in there off and on when we come to Leavenworth. Not every trip but often enough. They have a great open beer garden in the summer. This time around the only seating open in the whole place was in the bar area which normally is good. Not this time though. Since it was the only seating open we were next to a large group with 4 adults and probably ten kids under age 8. Do you think those adults even tried to keep those kids in line? Uh no!! I'm not anti kid at all but when the young ones are allowed to run amok it gets old. When you go in to have a nice relaxing lunch and you get someone's youngster clad in a Spider-Man onesie and crocs screaming and running circles around the tables maybe it's time to back off on the orange Fanta. Not only were we extras in a Romper-room episode, the food was not up to par. My bockwurst sausage was cold in the center which made it very unappetizing. That has never happened there. Perhaps the kitchen was too busy serving up Mac and cheese and Dino-bites chicken nuggets to the kindergarten. Either way I'm done with Gustav's. There are plenty of other places to spend my money in Leavenworth. read more

Oh Gustav! A family favorite restaurant in Leavenworth for sure! I remember coming here as a kid and now as an adult, most recently we dined in with my inlaws. It was great then and it's still great now! The food is pretty straight forward American food with hamburgers, sandwiches, chips and beer available. They also have a great menu of wurst sausages. Our favs are the knockwurst and the bratwurst. So everyone's happy. Good stuff! Lots of beautiful Scandinavian wood throughout- Gustav's really has a nice style. Kind of like a European ski lodge. It's a beautiful restaurant inside and out! We get the bratwurst almost every time and it never disappointed. My only complaint is the wait. It seems like every time we come to Leavenworth we go. But this year that Gustav's is under construction or adding on. Make sure you walk across he street at some point and take a look back at Gustav's- it's quite beautiful at night too! read more

We ordered the pretzel sticks, onion rings, Caesar salad, pork cutlet burger and fries. Every single thing was absolutely delicious! I loved the pretzels. The fries were cooked perfectly, fluffy inside potato, crisp on the outside. My husband loved his burger and I loved the salad. Onion rings were yummy, heavily battered but still good. Service was quick and friendly! It was a little chilly even though we sat by the fireplace, but it was also -6 out haha so everywhere was cold. With their highway 2 location, they have the opportunity to serve a lot of people during the Festival of lights and Oktoberfest. I only wish the food was more than basic hamburgers, sandwiches and other american pub food! Noting the nice cozy interior but a very noisy atmosphere due to the many families and their screaming young children that are allowed to be running around all the tables in the dining area. While the service was friendly, fast & attentive, the food was disappointing when you consider we paid $15.00 for a prime dip sandwich and pickle spear. While the meat was tender & plentiful, both of our meals were extremely salty and the toasted bread was dry, overcooked & not very fresh. The onion rings were the frozen precooked institutional variety and had little or no flavor. If speed is more important than waiting a little longer and enjoying a good meal, Gustav's is your kind of place! Quite place to dine in at.. located off the Bavarian strip this place is know for their burgers/fries and onion rings. Priced a little over but yummy food. All burgers don't come with fries that would be an additional $4 small or $5 large size but the portions are big. We ordered the pepper jack burger which contain the standard lettuce, tomato, onions and a slap of what seemed to be paquillo red peppers. Burgers were yummy. Rita was our server she was friendly and helpful. She did forget to come back and check on my alcohol drink which I requested a menu for. Also she forgot my friends side of soup. It was all made up for she took a photo for us near the fireplace. This is a nice and comfy style dining experience. We would've have given them 5 stars, but we wanted to sit outside and they were closing the umbrellas. However, the food was amazing. Shortly after we ordered additional drinks our food came in like 10 minutes. Wait staff was awesome. It was a busy night so we understand but we've been to other restaurants on a very busy night and the experience was quite the opposite. My husband ordered a beer and it was forgotten. 11/29/23 Service was good, We ordered the schnitzel sandwich. Nothing on the sandwhich had any flavor. The schnitzel patty was dry like it had been warmed in a microwave. The rest of the sandwhich tasted like old oil, and was greasy. I was very disappointed paying 16.00 dollars for just a bad sandwhich with no sides. Debating between a 1star or 2stars, I give it a 2, only because the food came out faster than expected. A group of 15 of us came upon this restaurant after searching for a place to eat. To be honest, it was the shortest wait time among the other restaurants near by. Not giving much expectations, it was exactly that. Our server wasn't rude, but not at all friendly too. I understand being the holiday season, it gets overly crowded and busy. But, it does not mean you get to be lazy with your job. When ordering off the beer menu, he kept suggesting drinks that he didn't have to go downstairs to get. He basically said that he didnt want to go downstairs to get it, and that it would take a couple of minutes. If it was said with a smile, it wouldn't have been a big deal. But you can tell with his face expression, and with the tone of his voice, he really didnt want to go downstairs to get the beverages. My sausage was not pleasant, in-fact, I didn't even finish it. I personally love this place. It's got great food and great strong drinks. I went here with my husband and we were seated in the bar which was chill and pretty quiet actually. Gustav's has a comfortable, airy space with windows on both sides. The wait staff is attentive, helpful, and polite. Where it needs to improve is in the kitchen. The food was so so at best. The ingredients were unimaginative and plain without notable flavor. Improving the food would make this place a 4.5 to 5 star experience. read more

Server didn't offer other options when asked if there was any traditional German food - he just responded with "no." Also did not provide genuine advice on food when asked. Took two pictures of us that were both 50% blurry. Food Pros: Delicious. I ordered the salmon burger which was amazing. Tasted fresh and was filling. The pretzel bun was soft and perfect! Fries were unsalted (this is a pro for me) and the small size was more than needed for two hungry people. They have plenty of vegetarian options including probably one of the only veggie burgers in town. Cons: Fries don't come with the burger and cost $4.50 for the smallest size. Fries were also mostly floppy. My boyfriend didn't like his burger much and claimed that mine was much better, but I don't remember what kind he ordered. Stopped in here today for a quickie bite (hubby was craving a beer). The place was practically empty at noon. The upstairs was closed but the downstairs dining area was open and beckoning with a lodge-like, Bavarian vibe: lots and lots of wood, with exposed beams and high ceilings and lots of natural light from all the windows. The tables and chairs were of heavy wood. There was a decent bar on one wall that appeared well-stocked. One other family was present, eating, with young kids. I liked how this place, despite the bar, was family-friendly. Service was good. A kid came by regularly to fill up our water glasses (nice!). Our server was pleasant. I ordered some pretzels which came with cheese sauce (which I didn't eat). The pretzels were quite good. Hubby had a dark beer (the Quilted Irish Dead. Funny name!) which he said was one of the best beers he ever had. The only gripe I have about this place is how the placard on our table listed the price of my pretzels as $5.00 but they charged us $5.50 for the dish. Yes, they amended the price when we pointed out the discrepancy, but still, that makes me wonder if other such discrepancies are on others' bills. So check them carefully! We went to Gustav's the night we arrived in Leavenworth. I loved the themed decor. The place was really cute and helped get me in the mood for Little Bavaria. But then our server came to our table. She was rude and incredibly unhelpful. This bummed me out, but I tried to let it slide. Sure, she delivered our beer and food, but she was not even slightly personable. I was sorely disappointed by this. As for the menu, it was pretty lame as well. The only Bavarian options were the German sausages. Though Gustav's is cute and beckons you from its corner location, I don't plan to go back and would never suggest it to a friend. A fun casual restaurant experience. It's labeled as a German restaurant, but everybody but me was able to get burgers and such. My motto is when in Rome........ Service was great, atmosphere was very nice too. Food was OK....not fantastic, but not bad. It felt more like quick version of sausage and kraut rather than truly slow cooked home made German versions. Prices were pretty inexpensive, making it a good tradeoff between food quality and wallet reduction properties. The decor of the place was very festive. It would be a perfect place to visit during an Oktoberfest. :-D read more

This is a happy atmosphere, well lit, burger joint with beer on tap, good for families, dates, and so on. (Yup, run on sentence, I ran with it). We had one kid in a stroller, another with a talking iPad for communication, both with their own food and no one gave us crap for it. We were here on the 4th of July weekend which seemed less crowded then a typical summer weekend. Our waitress was accommodating regarding the table that would work best for us. The kids got crayons and a coloring sheet. There were two big steps outside of the restaurant that were a small challenge for the stroller. I don't know if they had disabled entrance, however; the place seemed roomy enough with staff willing to move chairs around to accommodate our wheels. The beer was great and refreshing, the restaurant was well lit (opposite of dinning in a cave), and the staff was pleasant. The only German sounding items that I saw was the fabulous Bratwurst burger and a Bratwurst dog. There is a Gluten Free menu that we did not try. If you are able to climb stairs then you can dine on the roof (well, outdoor patio). read more

The food here is nothing remarkable--just your standard pub fare featuring sandwiches, burgers, salads, etc. I basically only go here for the outdoor patio and the great views. A bit annoying that you have to order fries as a side, but it's a huge portion and it's easy to share with your tablesmates so no biggie. We enjoy coming here. They have really good Bloody Mary mix they make themselves.... We always get it in a shot glass and add it into a beer-It's delicious we come here just for that. We tried the salmon burger and the Rueben sandwich both were really good just wish they offered them as a basket instead of having to order fries etc. separately especially for $16 each. Best place in Leavenworth for an American MicroBrew. Now granted you shouldn't be coming to Leavenworth for American beers, this is a German town for god sake. But the interior is totally reminiscent of log cabin you'd find in a ski village at Lake Tahoe. Really cool interior and plenty of space either at the bar or restaurant upstairs. We went during the winter time and enjoyed sitting by the fireplace downstairs. The food was just OK, otherwise I'd give them 5 stars. Start off at the Munchen Haus down the street for a Bratwurst and a traditional German beer or two. When you've had your fill of German food and ambiance, come here for some great regional micro brews of the Pacific Northwest. They have some great German inspired American Micro brews. read more

The upstairs patio is nice in the summer, and the food is reliable burger/beer/brat type fare. The sandwiches don't come with a side, so you may want to order something to go with it - the 1/2 order of fries is plenty for two people. The prices are really fair for what you get. On my last visit I ordered a special - a burger with a patty made of bratwurst, on a pretzel bun, with sauerkraut. It was quite good. The staff was friendly and offered good service. We tried various other more "authentic" places, but they were packed out the door (we were in town for the Ale Festival). The beer selection here was quite good. I got an amber ale on nitro (which is a rarity) that was brewed by Hale's. Food was mainly generic pub fare (burgers, fish & chips, etc.) it was OK, not great. Our service was quite good and our food was brought out disturbingly fast. I'm just incredibly lukewarm on this place, the German food options are sparse. Beer is above average, though. read more
