We tried various other more "authentic" places, but they were packed out the door (we were in town for the Ale Festival). The beer selection here was quite good. I got an amber ale on nitro (which is a rarity) that was brewed by Hale's. Food was mainly generic pub fare (burgers, fish & chips, etc.) it was OK, not great. Leavenworth is a true gem! As such it's easy to see how arriving at 4pm on a sunny Saturday would leave you struggling to find a place to eat that wasn't at capacity already. But with some good fortune and a strong hunger, we walked until finding Gustav's. And I'm so happy we did! What got our attention from a distance was the mist coming off the misters up on the balcony. That's right... I said balcony. Gustav's has a balcony that offers views of all the surrounding mountains... it's fantastic. I sat directly in the path of a few of these ,inters and drank a delicious Hefeweizen while enjoying a "Gustav's burger" and fries. I can't say a bad word about the food, the establishment, or the views. Very friendly and attentive service. So attentive that our actual server was surprised to learn another of his counterparts had already settled our bill at the table between his many stops to see that we were doing ok. I will give a 2 because I formerly loved it and it is a hard breakup. The hostess was wonderful. Our waitress was less than friendly. We had a prime rib dip which costs $19.00, a la cart (it did come with a pickle). Our friend had the BLT and said it was good. She saw my pickle and asked for one. The waitress added .50 to the bill. Gustav's is now dead to me. If I come back to Leavenworth, I will find a new favorite. It appears the labor shortage has hit Leavenworth bad. read more

A nice local draft selection but that's where things end. Ordered a burger and received a frozen, pre-pressed patty. A sit down restaurant like this should be able to make a homemade burger but I guess not. Kid's fish and chips and wife's salad were also fair at best. Went to Gustav's for lunch with my daughter while we were visiting Leavenworth. We were seated immediately by a courteous waiter. We both had the strawberry spinach salad. It was excellent! All in all it was a very pleasant experience. Will definitely visit again! read more

The food was great. Had the fish and chips and pretzel sticks. However, the worst service I can remember having. 4 employees walked by before we were acknowledged and offered a table. After 15 minutes of waiting, we had to chase someone down to take our order. No one ever checked on us once we received our food. We needed to get up and find someone to help us refill our waters twice, while 5 employees hung out at the bar talking. I would understand if they were busy, but there were only 2 tables with people seated. Would give a much higher review if we didn't feel ignored. read more

The restaurant is cozy, I do like how it's decorated you get kind of a log cabin vibe. The service we had was great! Our waitress was very friendly. The food was not the best. I'm assuming it's because it's typical pub food? Even then I've had better tasting food for less. They didn't have anything healthy that was kid friendly. My son was about 11 months old when we went and the only thing I could give him was fries. I asked if they had steamed veggies, and they didn't have that! So the food came out very fast, which is a huge plus when you have a baby with you. I don't remember what my husband ordered, knowing him he probably got a burger. I got a reuben and it seemed like they have it premade in the back, because the meat was greyish and cold. I ate two bites, ate some fries then decided that I would grab a bite to eat somewhere else. Gutstov"s is a favorite when I stop in Leavenworth. It's unique corner building is unmistakable. The atmosphere is festive and it's usually very crowed in the weekends. Friends recommended Gustav's and we're so glad they did! It was our first time visiting Leavenworth and weren't familiar with places to eat. We were so pleased with our whole experience at Gustav's. The service was top notch...speedy, friendly, helpful. We were seated quickly. The food order was taken and less then 10 minutes later the food was ready. The food portions were generous and high quality and tasted great. The hamburger was juicy; the Ruben sandwich was huge and the corned beef was tender; the French fries were handmade and tasted great; bratwursts were delicious. They had yummy root beer on tap too! A friend recommended this place for my first trip to leavenworth. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical after reading their reviews but I trusted her judgement and gave them a shot, I'm so happy I did! The service was amazing and the food was on point! I had the fish and chips and definitely recommend it! Their beer selection is great. My husband and father-in-law actually spent hours in this place watching some games and probably tried every beer on tap! They had a blast hanging out here while the girls shopped! Giving this place only one star. Our first time dining here, and it was a huge disappointment. We both had halibut and fries. The fish was dry and tasteless (thank goodness for tartar), and the supposedly fresh cut fries were overly fries and also very dry. We also ordered fried pickles. The WORST we've ever had! Get someone who knows how to cook! Granted, this is Leavenworth, but $22 for 3 pcs of fish and fries??!!?? Kinda ridiculous!! The only positive was the ice water. For 2 people, after tax $66! We were hesitant because of the reviews but we stopped by for lunch due to the outdoor 2nd floor seating and misting hoses for the heat. For a party of 2 we had really great service. They were very welcoming and fun to talk too. The cod and chips were very good. Nice and crispy batter. Not soggy at all! They gave me a ton of fries! Will say you can share with another person. Their tarter sauce was amazing. Could tell it was homemade and not from a jar. Do not forget to have a jager bomb while you are there! 2 stars for the service being decent, and I can't speak to highly about the food. I had a burger on "Rye" bread which clearly looked like white bread that was "toasted" That burger was bland, the "grilled onions" tasted and looked like regular onions dipped in vinegar. I have been here 5 or 6 times throughout the years, and have said 4 or 5 times afterwards that I'll never go back. This last visit was a few days ago, and it wasn't my idea, but I didn't speak up so shame on me. I'd like to give it 2 1/2 stars because overall it isn't terrible, but that's not an option. The food is just plain bad. I think one time I had a burger that was ok. I'd give it one star if it was based on food alone. We had fish and chips, a chicken sandwich, and a burger. The side of onion rings was the only thing that we finished. I know you've read a bunch of other reviews that tell you fries are extra, but seriously, this is the most ridiculous thing I've seen at a restaurant. You'd think (they) after reading all the negative comments this would have been fixed years ago, but no, pay 4 or 5 (can't remember which) extra on top of your $12 burger. You shouldn't have to say, "but it's a big portion with plenty to share." Everyone should have their own dang fries with what they ordered! Why am I even giving this 2, or 2 1/2 stars like I wanted to, you ask? Well, it's cool inside. I love the building. The upstairs seating is nice, even if it's a bit noisy. The service was fine. In fact, it's always been fine to good. They do have a good beer selection, and the inside is always very clean. We use to love this place. We have now had 3 disappointing visits. Positive first, fries are the best hands down. They use to have the best cod and halibut. I am currently staying in Leavenworth for my dear friend's bachelorette party, and I must say that Gustav's immediately caught our eye. The beautiful, relieving mist cascading from the rooftop and the full and robust menu was the reason we entered, and we decided to stay because of the staff's glowing smiles. As a party of 7, we were generously seated right away on the refreshing rooftop patio, where we were met by a casual and fun ambiance filled with families, dogs, and a wonderful server. Our server Blake was fantastic. Not only was he attentive, he was so accommodating and made sure our party never even had a chance to look around and ask for things when we needed them; he was always there. Blake entertained our silly questions and made sure our service was absolutely top tier, and gave us great conversation, going way above and beyond any regular service. In a hurry, my friend who paid for our party accidentally marked that we were unhappy with our service in the toast machine and I want to make it extremely clear that it was an accident. Blake will be one of the most memorable parts of this trip because of his kind, caring, and fun demeanor. The food was delicious, the service was quick, and my entire party left smiling.
