Bread with regular butter and garlic butter
    Connie S.

My cousin and I stopped by Bären Haus on a Sunday while in Leavenworth, hoping to try another German restaurant in town. We were especially excited to order the Kohl Roulade (stuffed cabbage), since we had tried it at another nearby spot earlier on our trip and absolutely loved it. When we arrived, there was about a 15-minute wait for booths and tables, but we were seated right away at the high tops. We were already starving and had plans to catch the fireworks afterward, so that worked perfectly for us. Shortly after sitting down, we were served warm bread with both regular butter and garlic butter. The garlic butter paired with the warm, soft bread was to die for, honestly one of the highlights of the meal. We placed our order for the Kohl Roulade, and it came out in about 10 minutes. As soon as it arrived, I cut into the roll, made sure to smother it in the marinara sauce, and took my first bite...then my second...and my third. Overall, it was just okay. The meat wasn't quite as flavorful as what we had experienced elsewhere, which was a bit disappointing given how high our expectations were. The plate also came with red cabbage, sauerkraut, and fried potatoes. The red cabbage and potatoes were tasty, but the sauerkraut wasn't really for me though that's more of a personal preference since I'm not a big sauerkraut fan. We really wanted to love this dish, but it just didn't quite live up to what we were hoping for. That said, you can't win them all, right? The service was good and the staff were very friendly, which we appreciated. Would I come back? Maybe, but I'd definitely try a different dish next time.

The service was great, Courtney is the best waitress. She knows all the food and the area SO well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a quiet, comfortable restaurant- great portions and fresh food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The live music on weekends here is great- we went a couple years ago![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]One of the original building with high ceilings brick and wood.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Big portions and tasty. For a German American theme, it has a lot of vegetarian options. Ate twice in two days. It's the place on the corner with the bear.

We picked this place because it was the one restaurant on the main drag in Leavenworth that wasn't packed. That's not always a good sign, but we were too hungry to wait! But this place wasn't bad. I got the combo sausage platter and both sausages were tasty. It came with a ton of sauerkraut and red cabbage and potatoes. The bread was pretty dry but everything else was fine. The wait staff were all very friendly and helpful. Overall, no complaints!

We were there for a Friday night dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It wasn't super busy and the staff were very friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was good. The drinks were good.

This place is pretty good. They have a wide spread of food ranging from Pizza to Steak. The service was friendly and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the decor and layout was not overly crammed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The one thing i did not like is the fact that they charge for refills on all drinks (except water). Which the only reason for the 4 stars. I believe that is kinda a big deal when the prices for the rest of the menu is what is it. I am not saying they are overpriced, but simply that free refills is not completely unreasonable. Overall i still recommend this restaurant, just expect then to not tell you about the "hidden" fees.

Fun German restaurant in Leavenworth, right downtown. It can get crowded and doesn't take reservation so get here early. Friendly staff. Fun indoor venue. Lots of good German food options and beer. The schnitzel is tasty. Kids chicken tenders and fries was a large portion. Overall, if you are craving some tasty German food and beer, definitely check this place out!

One of the popular meat try places in Leavenworth for its German food scene. Grabbed dinner last week as I got couple of friends from the Bay area, got them to try my local spots. We got Bratwurst Platter, Schinitzel, Margherita and Pretzel. I love their Pretzels, so had to make my friends try it too. Food was great, the Beets with Entrees tasted so fresh.

The cabbage and the gravy are the stars of this dish!

I stopped in on a busy Sunday night, but was able to get a seat rather quickly because I was over 21 and able to sit in the bar. The Jägerschnitzel was great. The breading was tasty, but the meat was a little tough to cut through. However, after having tried four Jägerschnitzel dishes in town, Baren Haus wins the prize for the most delicious and flavorful mushroom gravy!

Myself and a friend went to Baren Haus during peak season on December 28th. We were unsurprised at a long waitlist to get a table for two around 2pm and ended up getting sat by about 315pm. Of note, the hostess was kind, calm, and courteous and our server was fantastic. She was friendly, prompt and managed her numerous tables with seemingly ease. Unfortunately, the food was not ideal. We started by ordering the German Pretzel with cheese sauce and were disappointed to find the cheese sauce was eerily similar to Cheez Whiz and definitely low quality. For lunch, I ordered the Sauerbraten and my friend ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. I was excited to try a new German dish and was hoping for a better experience than what I had with the pretzel, but was disappointed to find out the "sweet and tangy brown gravy" used was almost identical to a watered-down version of HP Sauce. Despite not being the most authentic or delicious meal, the portion was massive and I was unable to finish my plate. As for the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, my friend noted it was one of the best grilled chicken sandwiches she had ever had and also commented on the large portion size. Based on the food we had ordered, the best items were those that were not traditionally German, which seemed odd for a restaurant in the middle of a Bavarian village. I would likely not re-visit given the lower quality of the food. However, I would definitely re-visit to experience the high level of service from the staff, and positive atmosphere with the themed decor.

Let's begin with the food. Personally, I felt like it was a good amount of food. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium well), and the fries were good. I've got to say, the overall presentation is alright. It's not fancy, but it's also not the worse. I mean, most people here are tourists and you aren't really coming here for a fancy dinner or brunch. But, it could be better. I love the overall atmosphere of Leavenworth, and that same charming and festive ambiance translated into the restaurant. The service was good, very attentive and friendly from what I can recall.

I thought it started off great my group and I were helped right away, and the theme of the place was amazing! The host was wearing a dirndl costume and made it feel as if I was in Germany. Though, by the time we sat down it went downhill... after we ordered our food which I was ecstatic to try, and received mine I was disappointed. I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel which was not the best. I'm not sure how it's supposed to be but it tasted dry to me, and it wasn't my favorite. Most likely wouldn't try that place again.

Schnitzel! That are not shy about filling up a plate.

Outstanding schnitzel! Great server, great drinks, warm bread, very generous portions. I Loved everything about this place. I think I even liked it a little better than Andrea's Keller. The sauerkraut was dreamy.

Combination plate: 1 German sausage, 1 Brat, sauerkraut, red cabbage, baked potatoes.

Pretty good schnitzel, excellent cabbage. But the stand out is the bavarian pretzel appetizer. It came out hot and buttery and delicious.

The restaurant is tucked away in a basement with fun Bavarian décor, but my favorite place to sit is actually outside along the street during the summer. Grab a local beer, people-watch, and soak in the Leavenworth vibe. The service was friendly, and they had a solid selection of local beers on tap. I ordered the schnitzel, which was a bit smaller than the traditional German portions I've had elsewhere. It leaned a little dry, and the breading was just okay--not bad, but nothing that really stood out. That said, not every meal has to be perfect to be worth the stop. The atmosphere, beer selection, and overall experience make it a place I'd still recommend when you're visiting Leavenworth. Sometimes it's just about embracing the Bavarian charm, and this restaurant definitely helps deliver that.

Even though you are in Leavenworth and there is a theme throughout the town, this place just feels like you're in another place. From the walk down the stairs to the entrance, to the decor, there's not a whole lot that was missed here. Our seats were tucked back at the back of the restaurant in a little nook that had only one side to the table. It was optimum for people watching. The servers were slammed constantly, but they did a great job of consistently stopping by and filling our waters with a smile. My wife got what she came here for. The schnitzel and spatzel. Let it be known that after our first venture here we decided that we needed to learn how to make schnitzel and spatzel at home. In that time I'm pretty sure we perfected it. The schnitzel this time around was good, but not what we remembered. The breading consistently fell off the meat which was a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, it was still tasty. One of the gravy's that we ordered(we ordered both), came out more like an au jus. Very thin with little flavor. Spatzel hit the mark and accompanied the schnitzel very well. I ordered a sampler a knockwurst, the seasonal sausage(it was smoked, that was the only description I got). I don't remember the name of the other one. Both the nameless sausage and the seasonal smoked ones were good, but not memorable. The knockwurst was the one I remembered the most, but not in a good way. It came out looking like a hot dog on steroids and just did not have good flavor at all. The sampler came with a couple slices of pickles, onion and mustard. The mustard did help, but I feel that a side of sauerkraut should have been apart of the presentation and would have elevated the flavors of the plate very well. We did also order a pretzel that was accompanied by a cup of cheese which we utilized to the fullest. While not as satisfying as our first visit, I feel that we will probably give this spot another go next time and hope for the same results we had the first time we came here. There were many other plates that passed us by and I would be more than willing to explore the menu.

Hence our visit to the Sausage Garden. The seating was great and spacious, even had headers under the covered areas which was super nice. Now to the food.... Sadly a bit disappointed in that area. We had a large group of folks so a good variety of sausages were ordered. The kids ordered the curry wurst and seemed to like it for the most part. For those that ordered the bratwurst we had a tough time eating cause the shell seemed to be incredible thick and hard to bite. Taste overall was okay, a bit on the salty side but not horrible. Just really hard to physically chew is where I struggled with. Also ordered the soup which was very broth and simple. Since there was potatoes I was thinking it would be a bit thicker but it hit the spot nonetheless. Overall impression, not a bad place with a nice place to take a rest. There are tastier places near by but I do enjoy the thought of supporting something more local. Just with the food wasn't so tough to consume.
