My wife and I had friends over from Finland and we decided to visit Leavenworth and stumbled upon Gustav's. The ambience was great, the place was authentic, and the food was even better. If you go, you try the pickle fries and onion rings; excellent! After arriving back to our house in Seattle, our friend realized he left his $250 Oakley sunglasses at the restaurant. I figured it was a longshot, but I called to see if anyone turned them in. I was amazed when they told me our server found the glasses, put them in locked storage, and they shipped the glasses to my house no charge. Kudos!!! read more

Thought I ordered $7 small salad but brought out and charged for $17 full dinner salad. Too late. Ate what we could and take out box for salad. Here is my tip for eating in Leavenworth: Go where there is a wait and wait for a good meal. The restaurants on the strip without a line, such as Gustav's, are not worth the convenience. Seriously - run while you can! I ordered the Wild Salmon on Greens (see photo). How is it you can run a restaurant in Washington, home of the best salmon on earth, and serve a piece of fish that looks like this? Dried out, burnt, absolutely disgusting. I was literally speechless when they dropped it off at our table. I did approach the waiter - to make sure he could see what was delivered. I asked him if this is what the meal should look like, thinking he would surly snap it up and bring out a meal that had been cooked correctly. Nope - he only confirmed that that was normal and said "sorry". Friends - it tasted just a bad as it looked! As for the others at the table - my teenager at about 1/4 of his burger. He can eat 3 or 4 burgers for one meal and he was starving - if that gives you an idea of how terrible it was. How on earth do you make a burger taste bad to a teen? The others at our table were less than happy but at least their dishes were edible. It is such a shame to have such a beautiful restaurant in such an ideal location offer such horrible food and terrible service (they acknowledge and could care less than their food is disgusting). My wife had Fish and Chips, we were going to go to have German food but our favorite restaurant (The Keller) was closed for remodeling) and she ended up not liking anything on the menu so she tried the F&C. The fish was oily as were the fries so pretty much inedible. She scraped the coating off and ate the fish. Hungry our first night in town and this was one of the only places open at 7:30 pm, the town shuts down pretty early. When we walked in there was a sign saying wait to be seated, so we stood there for over five minutes and no one had come over. The only worker that I saw there was a bartender and she had a few guests at the bar And a table of people in the center of the room. Finally one of the guests looked over and motion for her to look over toward the front where we were standing she came over and we were seated and asked if we wanted anything to drink and then she went and got a couple of menus. We ordered fairly quickly, I got a side house salad and a schnitzel burger. Everything on the menu comes à la cart so if you want to fries or salad with anything it was all separate. Salad came out first and it was very nice mix of greens and some veggies on top. Schnitzel burger was all right, there was not a lot of seasoning on the breaded pork and it was a little plain. I wouldn't say it was a total letdown but I certainly would not go back and order that again. I never did see any other employees out front, which was a little weird because the restaurant is pretty darn big and it seemed that the only tables that were being seated were right next to the bar for the one waitress. Sunday afternoon I called for Take-out, Cod and chips. she said 8 minutes, I was there in about that and it was ready. Good-Very good cod, battered, cooked nicely. Fresh cut fries; Yum! I enjoyed it so much I went back for lunch the following day; same F&C but I had one of the signature beers, a porter, with it. This place is "fine" for a quick bite to eat in Leavenworth. We didn't have to wait even though we came during Oktoberfest, so that was nice. But that probably should have been a sign that this wasn't the best choice of restaurants. The brat I had was not great but it wasn't terrible. The potato salad was pretty tasty though! And the pretzels with cheese sauce were the best thing we ordered. Our service wasn't great and our waitress seemed like she'd rather be elsewhere. When I asked what the daily soup was, she didn't even know they had soup on their menu and tried to tell me they didn't serve soup. It was around 7pm when we walked in. We were told that they weren't doing dine in any longer but we could place a take out order (totally understandable because they said kitchen would be closing soon), so that's what we did. When we eventually got our order, the fries for the fish and chips were burnt, cold, and soggy. Like...how?! We spent over $60 on our food! And on top of that, what was frustrating was that while we were waiting for our take out, they allowed 2 other parties (who walked in...no reservations because they don't take reservations) to dine in. I think that bothered me the most because I had my kiddo with me, but this restaurant allowed a party of 8 to be seated. Food, service, and ambiance was wonderful. This was my first visit back to Gustav's in about 10 plus years. On June 25, 2023, my wife and I dined for lunch and drinks on the rooftop. There were several umbrellas for shade and those lovely views of the Cascade Mountain on all sides. We ordered the pretzel, fries, salad and two adult beverages. I asked for a skinny margarita made a specific way, which was well accommodated. The waitress was polite, prompt, and skilled. The food was hot and delicious. Gustav's hasn't changed from my previous visit and still "has it." We will be back! read more

What a beautiful setting in a perfect little town. The restaurant is right in the mix of things. Has an awesome rooftop patio sitting under the mountains. We were there on a PERFECT day! The weather was awesome and the sun was shining. The patio is clean, seating is a little cramped but you get over that pretty quickly. The service was ok; our waitress was awesome but the hostess stand was a hot mess. When we walked in, there were 4 couples waiting to be seated. No hostess in sight. Look to the right at the bar - two patrons sitting there, but no bartender. We waited about 4 minutes then I walked over towards the bar. After a couple minutes searching, a young guy came out and told us we could be seated, just not up top (where we wanted to sit!) because they were waiting to seat a table of 27 that had not arrived. Walked back to the hostess station and the hostess (who had passed me talking to the guy) grabbed menus and walked us upstairs to the patio. ‍‍‍ They were still saying they had a big party coming in, but whatever. Our food was good! The halibut sandwich was THIN but tasty. My boyfriend's burger was good. My sister's fish and chips was the best! The handcut fries were so amazing. Neither burger nor sandwiches comes with fries - or anything, for that matter - but there were enough of my sister's to share. Been to Leavenworth many times and never had Gustavs. Our family went there for dinner last night to try it out. We had to wait but that wasn't the problem. The problem was our lackluster of service and food. Our waiter had no personality and was very monotone when speaking with us. Then there was the food.....a couple of us ordered the fish and chips and it was just gross. The batter was so greasy that it made the cod taste like it had been sitting in a grease trap all day. The fries could have been cooked longer and were under done as well. Everyone else said their food was alright so I can't give as bad of a review. But I will not be back myself. read more
