Thanks to Yelp for pointing me to this place I never would have found otherwise! This isn't a standard restaurant. It's a cute, well-stocked grocery store, and you place your order at the check-in counter just inside the door. Just a few options - which makes it easy! The staff were very nice, the prices were very reasonable, and my tacos were delicious! Authentic, so flavorful, and packed with toppings (no tiny sprinkle of cheese on top like you get at many places). Delicious tacos - the chicken was melt-in-your-mouth tender and seasoned perfectly, with just the right proportion of chicken/onion/cilantro. I was a little skeptical when I saw the cabbage, but it was a great addition - it added just al the right crunch. The beef torta and chicken tamale were also very good. There are only a couple of picnic tables out front, and we were the only people who stayed to eat -- most orders here are to-go. The grocery store owner was extremely kind and patient with us, as we did not speak Spanish, and he has limited English. $9.99 for three hearty tacos That have fresh cilantro and fresh cabbage is a steal. In the back of the store there's a guy making authentic and delicious burritos and quesadillas. They are 10/10, fantastic! I would highly recommend anyone who is a fan of Mexican food to go here. Gutierrez is a hidden gem in Covington. I am new to the Seminary Square neighborhood and decided to give this a try based on a recommendation from a friend. The space is very small but you can probably find any Mexican product/ingredient you would need in there. Additionally, they have a counter to order fresh made Mexican eats to-go. Tacos, burritos, or quesadilla. Chicken or beef. Simple yet delicious. They also sell containers of their home-made salsas and corn tortilla chips. I highly recommend everything! So I went back on a Friday to try out the tamales. I didn't care for the cheese texture of the jalapeño and cheese but it had a good flavor. I really loved the mole tamale as well as the fresh salsa served with it. I actually ended up going back in to purchase a pint of the fresh salsa/sauce. The tacos come on a soft corn tortilla. Both are quite tasty, but be prepared for the tortilla to collapse under the weight of the interior. I highly recommend both. The owner, without hesitation, recommended that we get the chicken quesadilla. Now, the tacos are great. I loved them. But the chicken quesadilla is the ultimate. Then every once in a while, you drive by a place and see people quietly milling around picnic tables, and you wonder..."hmmm, now THAT looks interesting." Gutierrez is a little Mexican Deli on the corner of Lee and 12th street in Covington. It is this little, cramped, unassuming Deli where you stand right there while they cook your food. Nothing pretentious or high end about it. Then, you take your bag outside and sit with people you don't know at a picnic table...and dig in! How much damn closer can you get to "street food" than that? Take a look at the pics in all these reviews. That is just what you get. Killer sloppy, gloopy chicken fajitas dripping hot sauce that make your eyes water. Each one comes with diced cabbage and cilantro and that killer sauce. You get a can of soda with it, and it is barely enough to contain the heat. They are talking about opening a Mexican place up the street on a corner by next summer. I stopped in to try some tacos, but the Yelp reviews led me to try the chicken quesadilla. Oh my gawd were the reviews right! Not only was this thing a monster that easily made two meals for me, (that I couldn't even finish) but it was absolutely delicious! The combination of seasoned shredded chicken, cabbage, spicy verde salsa, cilantro, and I'm not sure what else was pure heaven. The rest of it was still really good cold, hours later. Paired with a lime Jarritos it was a hefty, cheap, excellent meal. The young man who helped me and made my food was also very nice and friendly. FACT: Gutierrez Deli is still the best burrito in the city. I hadn't planned to write another review of it so soon, but I just went there last week and couldn't resist the opportunity to give them some love. I tried to visit Olla (owned by the son of the owner of Gutierrez Deli) just a couple blocks away but it was too busy! I really want to be able to make rice the way Gutierrez Deli makes rice. When you take a bite of the burrito and your teeth sinks through the rice, cheese, and the perfect amount of cilantro (no matter the protein you've chosen), you'll know what I mean when I call this the best burrito in the city (both sides of the river, SHOT FIRED). I rarely proclaim any one business to be the best at something, but this is the best burrito. We drove our burritos up to Devou park for a picnic and it was the best decision I made all week! Definitely TOP 2 taco place in the area. The place is a grocery store/ Mexican market, so there is no place for you to sit down inside. Right down the road from where I work, this place was great. Polite and fast service. The burrito I ordered was awesome. Unlike a burrito chain, the middle was HOT, not warm, HOT. Had my choice of salsas, asked the girl at the counter, she recommended the red (spicier). Took the suggestion, not terribly spicy, but FULL of flavor. The rice, the freaking RICE had good flavor. Hispanic store but with a great burrito. I just saw someone in front of me enthusiastically asking if they did the lunch special still and going back and forth between a beef and chicken burrito. He got the beef burrito and so did I. While I waited the owners father who took our order was chatting about his village in Mexico and how they visit once a year. We had a really unique, great experience here on a Friday evening. This is a cute little hole in the wall deli that offers a small menu of delicious take out. They always have tacos and quesadillas, but on Fridays they often offer tamales. I am a huge tamale fan so that was a must try for me. It came in a different style than I was used to as it was wrapped in banana leaf, and the chicken inside was on the bone. The portion was generous and the flavor great, although I wasn't fond of the bone in. I split the chicken tacos with my friend and they were very good although I wish they included some sort of cheese. I also tried the horchata which was ok. The 4 of us sat outside to dine at one of their picnic tables as it was a nice evening. The owner had come outside and was asking how our meals were. We had a wonderful, genuine conversation with him about how they make the food and some experiences from his hometown. What a unique locally owned business. This place is the real deal! Never been to the physical location, but ordered lunch on Uber Eats twice. So far I've tried the veggie burrito and the veggie quesadilla, and both have been phenomenal! I've also tried both the green and red salsa, which have been good, but the food is so good I don't even need salsa. The first time I tried it, I told my fiancé how great it was and today we ordered it for lunch together. He got a steak quesadilla and was just as impressed as I was! Definitely some of the most authentic Mexican food I've ever had. Their portions are huge too! Even the quesadilla is massive, it's honestly just like a burrito in quesadilla form - it has so much filling, including their rice!
