Spices and seasonings stall for Colonel De.
    Rick B.

Neat little spice and seasonings shop in the Findlay Market. It was our first time at the market so we walked the entire length and Colonel De is at the end...glad we found it. It is very much like the Penzey's that we have in the Chicago area and in some ways even better. Prices were very reasonable and the number of seasoning blends was large. We picked up some Buckeye Sugar Blend, Sam Adams Summer Ale Rub, Okie Dokie Seasoning, and a grilling assortment of 12 rubs and spices. Besides having a creative mind for naming their blends, they had a nice layout of the merchandise and numerous gift packages for purchase. Nice service from the laid back employees. We will return here on our next trip to Cincinnati...a great find in the Findlay Market.

All of our spices to take home!

You guys! Colonel De offers cooking demonstration classes at their Ft Thomas (KY) location. I just took one and it was great. This class was using cheese powders (more sophisticated than it sounds). We watched Chef Jeff make 4 different dishes with them and everyone got to try everything. We also were sent home with "swag bags" full of the spices we used, and recipe cards. A great value and a fun way to spend a couple of hours. A lot of staff were there and were happy to answer all of the spice/cooking/etc questions we had. They said they post info for future classes on their FB page- check them out! Then of course, stay after the class browse the delicious spices.

They say 'variety is the spice of life'- well, nowhere is that more true, quite literally, as at Colonels Gourmet. If you need it or want it, they've got it-heck, they've got all sorts of things you didn't even know you needed! No matter what I say here, the only real way to experience it is to visit yourself!.

Love this place. They sell an ounce of spice for $3 which is reasonable. They'll recommend what to put stuff on.

I think everything we bought today had sugar as it's largest ingredient! The traffic related to my pic of the Rowdy Roddy Piper soda is a little crazy...so I updated with a pic intended to address post-World Cup concerns. Do you want specialty hot sauce? They have it here! But if you just wanna go grocery shopping for just regular food, maybe go someplace closer and less crowded. Now if you're looking for something Special that is Hard to Find.. again head to Jungle Jim's! As for the prices, they are seriously on par with the Giant Eagle in my area so I wasn't overly impressed with their prices. Now a couple of their closeout items were very well priced! So it would be worth going there for certain closeout items. We specifically went for the International aisles, looking for certain flours made in Europe. We found them and they were a good price. If you live in the area and you want to give your visitors a kick, take them to jungle Jim's! I mean, if you need a map to get through a grocery store, you know it's gonna be something pretty impressive! They have lots of stuff to keep the kids happy and entertained. So I say that this place is definitely worth a visit- it's a cool experience and you're definitely gonna find things that you would not find anywhere else Just don't go there thinking you're gonna get fabulous prices on everything

You have to check out The Cozy Cottage in Bellevue. It's a perfect fit in the historic up and coming area. I believe The Cozy Cottage has been there a long time. This was my second visit. Super friendly clerk. Interesting when we arrived to get our Savory Cracker mix no one was in the store. Not a real concern since it is located in Bellevue which is one of the towns left today where they could pr leave your doors unlocked and keys in your car without worry. In comes the clerk with a warm cup of local coffee from the coffee shop across the street. This place will bring you back to simpler times. We chatted for around 15 minutes and bought a few more dip mixes. I can't say enough about The Cozy Cottage. I will pass the word along and definitely be back again. No doubt.

You're not going to find olive oil of this quality at the grocery store, and you'll enjoy the huge variety of flavors of both oils and vinegars. Once you start tasting (an idea that might seem strange at first, but will grow on you), you'll want to try them all, and Bel and his employees will let you do that if you want. They will suggest pairings, and give you recipes with which to impress your family and friends. Sometimes they even have foods to sample. I like to put just vinegar (apple, black cherry, or blackberry/ginger) on a salad as a fat-free dressing. For Thanksgiving, I sauté the onion and celery for my dressing/stuffing in their sage and mushroom olive oil for added flavor. One visit and you'll never get your oil or vinegar anywhere else.

The ladies mixed some of the balsamic and olive oils together to show how well some of them pair together. So I purchased the rosemary olive oil and lemon white balsamic to mix together for fish and chicken. Amazing pair! Then I also bought their premium balsamic because it was perfect and exactly what I've been searching for. Very happy with this place and hope it gets more recognition on yelp!
