We are so disappointed! First, my credit card was charged twice upon arrival (which did eventually get straightened out by the front mgr, but was still unnerving). We set out to the beach today and paid our fee for the chairs and umbrella only to find no available sets on the beach because of the poor way they were distributed with no identification or markings and people just staking their claim without having paid. It was mayhem. Here we are on our second night and to our dismay there is no Tiki Bar, no entertainment and the Santiago's bar closed before 9. While I realize that illnesses and short-staffing happens at these times, we are paying an extra amount on the weekends for our stay with no extra perks. We were even kicked out of the unoccupied cabanas this evening where we weren't disturbing anyone, but enjoying the sounds of the FL beach. We have waited so long for a vacation and this being our 30th wedding anniversary and with all the research I did to pick a resort, We are SO disappointed! read more

Totally on me. I didn't consult the reviews. I live in Tampa near the St Pete BEAUTIFUL Guy Harvey. No comparison but expensive as well. Location great. So that's a plus. No housekeeping. That's fine but after staying three nights I had to HUNT down a towel and coffee pods. I asked for a small plate at the bar to reheat food and she (bartender) said I can't give you a plate to take to the room, here's a paper to go box. Ok thanks. I need to reheat two items. Dont let the Guy Harvey name fool you. Place isn't that great. Should be called Guy Harvey Hotel, not Resort. Check-in gives you wristbands for pool and tiki bar. Place has ZERO control over its property. Well, in the course of 2 hours, I saw people walk off the beach from their trucks, get drinks, locals park at hotel to use pool and access the beach. Signs all over stating use for hotel guests only. Even saw the towel hut guy walk a locals beach chairs to his car from the beach and return his key. The waterbowl on deck just outside beach access has green mold in the water. The restaurant hostess at the close breakfast chanted how she loved it when the kitchen cleans out the freezer as she had food in her hand. Tiki Bar didn't have all the beer advertised in the coolers. Rooms were very dated aside from a painting on the wall..... I won't stay here, very unimpressed with this hotel, not resort. read more

So we stayed here five days. Staff is outstanding. The property needs work. The toilets are about one foot off the floor which made it very uncomfortable. The hot water took at least five minutes to arrive to the fourth floor. For a place that cares so much for our environment, that is a ton of wasted water. Great beach and pool access. Renting beach chairs was very costly, so we purchased two at Publix and gave them to other guests when we were finished. If they put some real money in the place, it could be really nice. This is a tacky hotel calling itself a resort. Don't be fooled by the name. Our king suite was devoid of any furniture, except for the bed and a straight-back wicker chair that was too short for the desk. The vanity mirror for the bathroom was installed between the sink and the toilet. Useless for the customer unless you wanted a well-lit trash can. They allow dogs, but there is no sound proofing in those rooms, so we heard barking dogs late at night and way too early in the morning. They have signs posted that they have undergone renovations, and the architect and interior designer were laughing all the way to the bank. I'm sure there are better places along the beach where people can get their money's worth. This place was a total rip-off. Avoid staying here if you can. You will thank yourself later. read more

Extremely clean and excellent service. Ray goes over and beyond to help get your needs met. Food is good and Tru is excellent at the tiki bar. Accommodates handicap poolside and beach wheelchair! Okay. Thought it was pricey for what you got but it is on the water. Maid service was lacking. Room was clean except for the glove or at least I hope it was a rubber glove was in the corner. And they kick you out of the pool because of weather which was very questionable because the skies were blue on more than one occasion. Food was not good. read more

The location of the resort was awesome! This is a rehabbed old property and it jut isn't there yet... lobby was nice but my room on 5th floor was "tired". I did see a renovated room and it was very nice BUT i didn't get a discount because I had an old room! The elevators were excruciatingly slow! Front desk crew was awesome! DO NOT STAY HERE. DO NOT TRUST THEM. We were in St. Augustine for a wedding and decided to stay at this hotel based on the price and location. What a terrible idea. The entire "resort" is under construction. The rooms were okay, but definitely needed updating. Just walking down the halls you could get an idea that it was not a very nice hotel. The walls are paper thin so you could hear all of your neighbors. The one elevator did not work. On top of all of that, this hotel is a SCAM. I booked through hotels.com and paid for the hotel before we got there. During check-in, they asked for my credit card and email for "incidental charges". The check in took about 20 min longer than it needed to due to a "printer problem". Two weeks later my credit card company called me up in regards to suspicious charging on my card. There was over $2000 charged to my card from online websites. After investigating further, the first suspicious charge was for "Holiday Isle Oceanfront Resort". This was the old name of this resort and if you look at their reviews, you will see that they have scammed other people and the hotel has been under renovation for years. My credit card company is handling all of the charges that this hotel has made using my card but I encourage you to NOT STAY HERE. It is not worth it. read more

After a couple of days trying to find a nice, decent, hotel in Miami for my family and I to stay in, we decided to go back home (North Florida) and on the way home we noticed it was getting late so we randomly stopped at Guy Harvey's Resort. PROS: What a relief! My first impression of the place was great, beautiful lighting, attractively casual decor, pleasant staff and "nice people" light crowd. * Price was affordable. * Then we get to our room, also pleasant, clean and simple with modern furniture. I felt comfortable and didn't feel the need to wear flip flops to walk in the room or even shower, so that's great. * The room provided two nice size trash cans with the trash bag tied around them, very practical (not like other hotels that give you the tiniest trash can and when you throw something away, the bag inside the bin slides all the way in) * The best of all was the bed. I slept so comfortably, that before we left, I had to lift the fitted sheet so I could look at what kind of mattress that was. *Clean sheets and blankets (not like other hotels where sheets smell a little bit like bleach). * The manager also brought us a crib for our one year old baby and our baby slept in it comfortably throughout the night. * I also love the fact that the location is right next to the ocean. You can peek at the pool from your room's window and walk to the beach in less than a minute. * There's a restaurant in the hotel "Santiago's" local food and crafted bar" or something - we ordered dinner for our toddler there and the food was excellent! price was great and very convenient that is right in the hotel. CONS: * Internet did NOT work during our whole stay. * We found a dirty sock (I guess from the previous guest) on the floor next to one of the beds - please cleaning crew, do a dummy check before leaving the rooms :) * The entry door to the room did NOT have a weather/sound strip so when we turn lights and TV off to go to bed, we could see light around the door frame and hear all kinds of noises, people talking and other doors being slammed along the hallway. Please hotel management, add some weather/noise cushiness to those doors. * Bathroom didn't have a fan/vent so the paint in the ceiling was chipped in different areas. * In the morning, we wanted to have some coffee (since the room provided a pod coffee machine), but there were no cups for hot coffee, neither stirrers and I drink decaf and they didn't have it. We kindly asked front desk for some decaf coffee, and cups and they brought the decaf coffee and stirrers but forgot the cups. It's all good. This place is a joke. It's marketed as a "Guy Harvey" resort. The front building is new where you check in and where the restaurant is. It's nice and very welcoming. Then you walk out back to the other building and that's where the nice ends and the ugly begins. It's run down and doesn't reflect guy Harvey at all except some photo copied paintings with outdated nasty decorations, cracked caulking and an overall unclean feeling. Our pet friendly room came with dog dropping's already dried and smeared on the floor. It was obvious that the room had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. We didn't even want to walk barefoot in the room because it didn't feel clean enough to. Won't ever stay here again and will not recommend it to anyone. read more

The hotel is under renovation. I was never told. Left the hotel to visit the city at 7 am. I came back at 3 and housekeeping was never done. I called to let them know, however they never came. Called management to make a formal complaint and her answer was that if I wanted house keeping for the day i had to leave the room before 6 pm otherwise the team left and no one would be able to come. Super inconvenient and inconsiderate. The internet was awful. It was down for 75% of my stay. Did not receive signal on my cellphone. If you need your cellphone very often, look for another hotel. How a famous artist like Guy Harvey would give his name to this place is beyond me. Has anyone even had the heart to tell him. I'm sure he must have an agent. From being told at check in that my travel agent booked the wrong room even after me paying for oceanfront balcony, to going into room they gave us was a nightmare. The room had a moldy smell which wasn't good as we were told there would be no cleaning during our stay due to covid. Really??????? you'd think they would be making sure things were cleaned. Ice machine was so loud we could hear it from our room. Then when we went to get ice it was empty. Our 6am morning alarm of a large dog barking was not what we expected or the 2 yappy dogs barking every time someone walked past their room or closed a door 2 doors down. Nor was the fact of knowing every time our neighbor used the toilet. Hallways had a guy painting the walls with no signs to say wet paint. Pool area was nice as was the beach. I gave this 2 stars because the front desk was friendly and informative, the rooms and common areas were clean and the view is absolutely amazing. However, everything else was a let down. We have been traveling across a few cities so we have stayed in 3 hotels back to back. This one was the worse. The room was so small, and the beds are more like a full not queen. They are on a platform that takes up even more space unnecessarily. They have a huge desk, huge dresser and big cabinet for the refrigerator taking up even more space. There is also no microwave. They should look into changing the furniture to try and free up some space since the rooms are so small. They say there is free WiFi but it doesn't work AT ALL. It says no internet connection, and the card reader on the vending machines didn't work. Not only that but I got no cell service in the room either. I work from home currently so this was a major inconvenience. The pool area was immaculate and I saw them clean everything in the mornings. The beach entry was also very nice and convenient. If they corrected a few things this would be an amazing hotel. read more

Worst hotel stay and not worth the price. Would not let us early check in before 330 and anywhere else I have stayed it's never been a problem. Floors dirty No extra blankets Tiki bar couldn't even make a mojito because they didn't have mint leaves It's pet friendly which is not a problem but guest can leave their pets in their rooms apparently while they leave and a dog was howling late into the night. Check in woman was rude and Incompetent No extra towels . Walls are very thin and I could hear everything in the room next door. Another adult male guest ran in front on our room which was Oceanside and pulled his pants down and mooned my 8 year old . Management did absolutely nothing. I will never stay here again. If I could give zero stars I would. No cleaning service and no microwave. Could hear door slamming and people yelling all hours of the night. read more

This is the best pet-friendly resort we've stayed in! It has beach access and pets are actually allowed on the beach (as long as they're leashed), which is rarely the case with other resorts. The beach is so nice and clean. The resort itself was still under renovation when we visited but we loved our room and all the staff were so helpful and nice! We had the two queen, pet-friendly room and it was spacious and had newer furnishings with a bigger mini fridge. It's also just a 20 minute drive away from the historic district, which has a ton of pet-friendly restaurants. There's also a shuttle that stops by the resort to take you to the trolley tour stop. We'll definitely be coming back when we want a beach escape with our pup! read more

Reading the other reviews, ours will be more positive. A few points to share: - This is affordable for a beachfront place, so it is not the Marriott but a fraction of other places on the water. Deal with the shortcomings; - the guy works at the desk named Sean (Shawn) is awesome, he deserves a promotion if not at least a raise, excellent customer service; - The hallway floors are made out of tile with half inch grout gaps between them. This may look OK, but in the morning when lazy people are rolling their overstuffed rolling luggage over them it makes a ton of noise reverberating along the stucco hallway walls, it is freaking loud. it consistently woke us up each day as people started packing out around 630 or 7 AM each morning. I hope the hotel consider carpeting so folks can sleep in a little on their vacations. It's not fancy but solid for what it is. Aside from having a beautiful lobby and close access to the beach this hotel is a dump! There are much nicer hotels nearby don't spend a dime here. Many people write reviews saying they are in the process of renovating which is great but leaving the rooms in disrepair (ie) really slow bath drains, bathroom doors that only open half way and get stuck water damage from the ceiling. There were blood stains on the bathroom wall which were clearly visible but no one cleaned them. I brought these these concerns to the front desk they said someone would be over of course no one came. The carpets in the room are dirty and smelly housekeeping only provides towels and they make the beds like a 5 year old. The plus side is that they have water softeners so the water feels great, comfy pillows and a decent pool only when the chain smoking bar flys are not congregating. read more

Hotel seemed ok at first till we passed through pool area. They need to limit the drinking and seriously turn down those look intoxicated. I certainly wouldnt bring kids to the pool. Beds seemed comfortable however cleanliness is different issue. I have bed bug bites on my legs. Coffee maker is a Keurig and I noticed they left only decaf in my room. Asked the staff I saw on my floor to get normal coffee but never received it. The front staff seems to be all over the place. Cleaning staff walked in the room unannounced little after we checked in, they thought room was vacant. We booked a one night stay here, after no luck anywhere downtown. I was pleasantly surprised at how the hotel looked just like the photos. Very cool and clean. Great atmosphere in the lobby. The front desk staff was informative about suggestions local eats for us to try while we waited for our reservation to come through (I booked online through hotels.com while I was in the lobby because it was cheaper). Front desk said she would call when the reservation pulled through to their system.... never received a phone call. The main hotel is through an outdoor corridor to a separate building, elevator is very slow but we managed. Our room was nice, although very warm for awhile until we turned the air up. The next morning we woke at 6am to take showers before started our next 11 hour drive home, only to discover that we had no towels. No wash clothes. No hand towels. I called the front desk about 4 times in the course of 20 minutes and no answer each time. I walked down to the lobby and it was a ghost town. Not a soul. I waited a few minutes as I heard someone stirring down the hall. The girl came out and asked if I was checking out, I explained not at the moment but we have no towels to speak of in our room. She explained that she did not have the master key and that housekeeping does not arrive until 7am so I will have to wait. I explained I cannot wait, and this is very inconvenient. She said she would have to look in any vacant rooms for towels she can provide. After about 15 minutes there was a knock on the door at which she was able to gather 2 wash clothes, 2 hand towels and ONE towel..... for two adults and a child. I was very disappointed in the service this morning. read more

I thought reservations were meant for the customers to be expected at the hotel. Well, no. Is for them to tell you that they are not ready for you until you as a customer arrive and check the room and then let them know that something is wrong with the room and then they may send some stranger technician to your room. Then the technician will try to gaslight you by saying that nothing is wrong. When you get frustrated that your complain is not heard, then such a technician states that you have an attitude and that you should calm down!! At this point I don't even want the room. The technician also points out that they might have another refrigerator but has no idea of how long it is going to take. I come back to the front desk and request another room. The receptionist states that I'm early and for that reason, my room is not ready. If I wait until 4pm, my room would have been ready and everything would have been working. As if they knew that the refrigerator was ready. So, let's say I show up at four pm and the refrigerator still not working; then how are they going to blame me this time? What are reservations for? And how dare they say is my fault that the room is not ready? Sooo.... After resting in a room with a better cooling refrigerator and hallway, I woke up to see the sunrise about 5:50 am and in the rush for the sun coming out and me not missing it, I did not bring a phone or my key-card. Imagine this! After seeing that beautiful sunrise, I went back to try to get in my room and I could not, it's nice to see that is safe to be in this building. I went to the front desk to ask for help, the lady -is 6:30am mind you- after confirming that I was a guest, she walked with me to the building and opened the door for me. We stayed here Oct 13th for 3 nights. I have to say it isn't as nice as the pictures. Rooms are small. The view is amazing. The balcony is cramped and chairs uncomfortable. Inside the beds are comfortable and clean. The carpet was disgusting. You feel like you need your shoes on to walk on it. Overall I am disappointed as I was hoping for more since it has Guy Harvey's name on it. A big con was that you had to walk outside to get to the restaurant since the hotel and restaurant are in 2 different buildings! Personally I would not call it a resort. It's just a decent but not great beachside hotel. Tiki bar was great and had good music. Drinks were good but overpriced. Bar attendant was very nice. Ordered appetizers at the restaurant. It was tasty but overpriced. If we ever come to this area again we will choose a different hotel. St Augustine was amazing! read more

Check-in was phenomenal, awesome customer service and very friendly people up front. I liked that the hotel was very cool inside as well, being that it is extremely hot outside. This hotel definitely needs a facelift, tremendous amount of water damage in my bathroom ceiling that was kind of gross, a lot of rust on my balcony that made me feel a little unsafe. Check in was okay but the girl was sorta rude when I asked if the pool was heated (lolzzzz are any pools in Florida, oh you're not from here..) yeah duh I'm on vacation. EITHER WAY, the room we had was so incredibly sub par. Dingy, dinged up furniture, the blinds don't close all the way (?? Weird) dirty looking bathroom, pillows were super uncomfortable. This hotel is currently undergoing renovations. We had an ocean view room on the third floor with a balcony. The view was amazing, you look out over the pool and can watch the sun come up with a fresh cup of coffee from the provided kerig machine. The room was beautiful and clean. The bathroom was a bit small, but newly renovated with terrific water pressure. The sheets and pillows were very nice with a cloudlike comforter, perfect for snuggling and sleeping in late. While here be sure and stop in the restaurant, fresh squeezed orange juice and a remarkable breakfast await you. We also had dinner at the restaurant. The florida shrimp were cooked to perfection, not frozen or tough. We started with the smoked fish dip which included nice size pieces of fish, then we had the jerk chicken soup. This soup was better than any soup or chowder I've ever had. This was a chefs win for sure. The shrimp and grits were so flavorful as was the minorcan pilau shrimp, very spicy with a hint of the carribean. Be sure to stop in and say hi to Tim the manager, next time we pass through St. Augustine we will definitely be stopping here. I can't wait for it to be finished. The Grill and Grog restaurant is just an excellent place to have a quiet breakfast or lunch. The food is very good - try the omelet - oh my! I'm here after over a decade. Hoped for the pool bar we were promised on the ads (& that used to be open 24/7 under Holiday Inn). What a disappointment that the pool bar has been closed 4/5 days I was here! Many guests are upset & the inside bartender cannot handle the crowd (her words!). Pool bar was the main reason I booked here, but there were other issues. The restaurant/inside bar had a very nice young female serving & we watched her get treated like crap by other staff obv trying to take advantage. E.g., she gets drinks, welcomes, puts in food order and they try to intimidate her & get checks transferred. They need oversight & clear seating rules. On other guests, WOW, I saw a lady pee in the outside shower, had to listen to a group of loud "southern" folks all day (the 1 day the pool bar opened) and you can hear they the walls at night. My last notable issue was that the pool in icy cold in late June. Now, this can happen in FL, but somehow the pool was always nice & warm before this ownership. Did they stop paying a heating fee? Idk, but it's lame to have a really cold pool in FL during the summer. I used to love this place, but may never stay again. If mgmt could pull it together (I heard them have 1:1's with mgrs outside where the mgr blamed staff under her for underperforming- it starts at the top guys), maybe this place could be 1/2 of what it used to be. Very disappointing. We won't be back unless something changes. If Guy Harvey ownership hopes to be a hot location on St. Augustine Beach, they'll need to know a few simple things about their guests & hold their staff and guests accountable. This hotel is in need of a deep cleaning and some nice design elements. The hallways and stairwells are very dirty. We were there for 3 days and neither the carpets at the entrances nor the hallway floors were ever cleaned. The guest room key card system is very outdated and not reliable. For a beachside resort named for an artist and conservationist, it should inspire both creatively and ecologically. There are no signs of any environmental focuses or programs. The best thing this hotel has going for it is the location which is directly on the beach with access through the pool. But this is not a family/kid friendly hotel. This was our second visit to this resort. Its on the beach, pet friendly and has a good restaurant and bar. Our first visit was in June, remodeled room on 1st floor. although we had a few issues they took care of them and we went home and booked a second trip. 2nd stay: Checked in and were in a room that was not remodeled. Not a fan...asked to be switched and on second night we were back to a new room and in my (comfort zone) Thanks to George at the front desk!!!! I also have to give kudos to Jeanett, she and our daughter went above and beyond to have a surprise for my husbands birthday...Thanks so much! Although they are still in the renovation process and there are some issues, we couldn't beat the price, and location. we plan to come back and hope it just gets better and better. read more
