We were super hungry so my standards were low. I was ready to eat literally anything at that point. Got ceviche, guac and grilled fish tacos. This is BY FAR the worst ceviche I've ever had. It's offensive to ceviche to call whatever that was "ceviche". Really guys, just scrap that menu item, remake it in the simplest way possible and reintroduce it. Go watch some YouTube videos on how to make ceviche or something, good God. Right now it's a salad with some weird grapefruit juice marinated fish. It is actually terrible. The guac is also pretty bad. 2 day old Publix guac is better. Don't even try to hide the taste with the parmesan crumbles. Come on. Make it good. It's guacamole, you're in Florida - there are no excuses. The fish tacos were pretty good. Those were your only saving grace from getting one starred. Work on the tortillas. By the time I got to the third one, the filling was falling through the soaked tortilla. read more

Absolutely loved this place. The location itself is beautiful and actually has a big,nice,spacious, private beach. We weren't staying here but as long as you drink,eat,or both at the bar your allowed pool access. We did get to actually walk on the beach and actually hang out there enjoying the full moon and noone bothered us. The property itself is big. The sign in the front is so vintage but I feel suits the property. There's a main building upon driving in but once passed that you come up to the beach,pool, and rooms area on one side and then they have a history and discovery building that looks like a museum. There was even a private event outside there that looked beautiful in the evening with all the white lights. The bar/pool guest have their own parking but be careful because it's very dark at night. Back to the bar now. I was in a tropical mood so I had a mango drink at first and then a banana but decided to stick with the mango,both were good but the mango just did it for me. There was such a nice breeze and you have perfect ocean views,it was truly a relaxing day. We ordered conch fritters which were great but they came in a marinara sauce,never had it with that before but it was good. We had the ceviche but I swear every bite I took was missing fish but the flavor was still good,just felt like it was more of a tropical salad but it had abeautiful presentation complete in a martini glass and multi colored chips. I had an applewood fried green tomato sandwich which I thought was real tasty. Hubby had there blackened mahi sandwich which he forgot to let me try so that means he loved it. We even caught the Dolphin game as they have flatscreens right above the bar. Although we had a great time just hanging at the bar I would prefer next time to actually stay over night so you can really get to enjoy all the amenities they have to offer. Guys beach side Tiki Bar is your typical Hotel tiki bar restaurant although they do have quite a variety of dishes and many of them do not have to have fish involved. They do have some wonderful fried pickles , as well as a great variety of salads the soup is also fresh and good a conch chowder served with Sherry is a great conch chowder it is the red variety and very good not very spicy but tastes well they also have a fish sandwich for lunch which is very good served with fries, they do have quite an extensive menu although I would not consider it Gourmet it is very very acceptable for a hotel tiki bar. read more

We are currently staying in the Islander resort and the pool with this bar is right behind out villa. The staff who took my order was very pleasant and tried to gauge what I would like to drink and suggested I have a mango margarita. I loved it, it was better than the other mango margaritas I have had in other places within the Keys. When I told him I wanted to nibble some thing which is not fried, he suggested I go for the Key Cypresse salad. This was very refreshing and well balanced. Mike was our server he took great care of us. Susie and I had the marinated Portobello mushroom with goat cheese and a wilted spinach salad, so good! Bill had the Cuban and it was a true Cuban and very good as well. If you find yourself any where near this little beach side bar and grill you should stop in and give it a try. The pool is right there next to your table and if it gets too hot you can take a dip. I must say again that the food was excellent. read more

Please note this review is based solely on the food as I find that the most important part of a restaurant review. Came here with a friend for a few drinks and a quick bite while enjoying the scenery. Decided to go with the braised short rib flat bread and my friend went with the Caesar salad with blackened Mahi. Was so disappointed with the flat bread I had to send it back. The definition of flat bread is right in its name, FLAT. Unleavened yeast should be used to make a flat bread, and it should be crisp. This was the exact opposite. So thick and doughy it shouldn't even pass for pizza dough unless it's from dominos. The flavors on the flatbread were fine but could not get past that thick flavorless "crust". The threes stars is for the well cooked mahi on my friends salad. So I'm sure they are capable of cooking decent food but stay away from the flatbreads if you are used to real ones. read more

I came here with my husband and a group of friends on a Sunday. We were told over the phone that if we ordered food and drinks from this location we could use their pool. To start off I ordered conch chowder, and it was not good; I had a little bit and gave it to my husband, which not surprisingly he didn't like. Then we ordered corvina ceviche and mango shrimp tacos; the ceviche was ok, nothing special about it, it was missing flavor, it was too bland. The best thing we had here were the mango shrimp tacos, they were good (but not great). Besides the food not meeting our expectations, the waitress mixed up the bills. From the beginning we told her we were paying separate, who was with whom and then ordered. When we asked her for the check, she came back with the 3 checks and told us to write a number next to what we ordered to separate the bills... that's why we told her from the beginning we were getting separate bills; i don't know why she didn't do it. Then, we gave her back the bills with the numbers like she wanted and when she came back with our credit cards, she had charged them wrong, so we all ended up paying more/less than what we were supposed to. To make things worse; we ordered drinks while we were at the pool, and they lost one of our friend's credit card! I've never seen that before, how can you lose a credit card, that killed our vibe and we all left. read more

No surprises here. Went for lunch and the service was on the slower side, the "live music" of the bbq was actually a dj playing way too loud (it was even overbearing down by the water), and the food was below average. Throw in a chain smoker at the pool and two stars are kind. Biggest negative: the bbq was serving frozen burgers dumped in a warming tray after being grilled. Positive: drinks were pretty good and the sides of the all you can eat (beans potato salad and corn on the cob) were spot on. read more

Overall, I enjoyed the food I ordered here. One night for dinner our group of 5 ordered: Caesar salad with fried Mahi Mahi, truffle lobster mac & cheese, shrimp tacos, lump crab meat on toast, and Cuban sandwich. The salad could have been a bit better. The fish portion was very small and the dressing on the salad was not Caesar, but olive oil and vinegar. The Mac & cheese was good, but not a flavorful as I thought it would be. The shrimp tacos were good but the shrimps were boiled and not grilled. The Cuban sandwich was the best by far. The next day for lunch I ordered the food and had it delivered to the room. I ordered 3 cheese burgers and 3 Cuban sandwiches. Couldn't go wrong! The fries that accompanied the meals were very good. When ordering from this place, keep it to simple foods like burgers. I saw some people eating their grilled cheese and it looked good. Good for fast American cuisine, but this place is on the pricey side and I'm not sure if it's worth the money. It's convenient if you're staying in the Guy Harvey resort or a visitor at the pool. read more

This place is amazing! Went for the fried pickles and wasn't disappointed, it was seriously the biggest portion I've ever had and for only $9!!!. The BLT flatbread was amazing as well. The stars are for the view and the pool usage as we dined here and drank. The bathrooms were clean too. Pool was perfect! Beach had coral in it that was just to the left of a pier (ummm perfect for preying sharks) i wouldn't let my boyfriend in. There was an interview near us with a woman being filmed about sharks being here as she scuba dived. No thank you! Pool was the best choice. The waitress that came over must have just been hot and bothered. She wasn't very helpful at all and a little rude. Guess i can't blame her. Lots if non tipping going on, low season and it was HOT. I requested a list of beer or if she knew what they carried and she did not and referred me to a menu that didn't have it on it. Going to the bar was the ideal solution. THEN we got hungry. The food attractively described on the menu enticed us but because we came here for a drink or two we didn't look up the ratings. Ugh! Inedible. Unless of course ur hungry and although u ate two hours before, the drinking, swimming and Sun got ur belly growling. So we blindly ordered. It was a lobster taco with corn that was pretty gross and it was in my worst judgement to finish it or try at last. Sorry, I don't usually describe food like this but this place has no business serving cuisine this way. It's offensive! The service at the bar was ok. Mixed drinks were slush. When we ate we sat at a table and the server tried his best to guide us but I guess they only know this kind of food or we just ordered two of the most vile choices. My bf chose a burger. He describes it on par to McDonald's. If u like that flavor it's for u. Go for it. So for pool and for drinks u go to the bar to get, this place would get a 3. But I ate and we paid for, with no complaints, that gross experience that upset our stomachs. It was just so bad, we assumed that it was clearly a lack of care, interest or integrity, complaining wouldn't change that. Keep it simpler and good quality and I'd respect that more. read more

When we first approached the poolside restaurant, we both got the sense that it was going to be a fairly typical conch chowder, burger place. My, were we pleasantly surprised. While we we've been enjoying all varieties of fish offered on the Keys, we discovered an opportunity for a change of pace: Cornish Game Hen on wild rice. It looked so tempting, we both ordered the dish. We both have travelled extensively, and have children and step children who have won contests on national chef shows. The game hen offerings were just excellent. Beautifully prepared and savory with sage. Charlie, our server, was very helpful In his recommendations for appetizers and wine selection. Food was great but staff could use some motivation. We were a party of seven on a very slow night at the resort and if your in the service industry a tab like that is valuable during slow seasons . The food was good but the server gave no recommendations and tried to force the dinner entrees down our throats which were way too pricey and didn't even seem that great. He neglected to tell us about the sandwich menu until the picky eater in our group asked for a burger. We've stayed at this resort three times. As much as we love the resort, we've given up on trying to get anything to eat here. The food is nothing more than ok, the drinks overpriced, and the service can best be described as "reluctant." There are so many other great dining options in the area, that we'll continue to come to the resort but avoid getting anything from Guy's Beachside. read more

We have stayed at the Islander Resort because of a lifetime of access to spectacular sunsets, the surrounding Islamorada area and the best conch chowder in the Keys (and believe me I have searched every nook and cranny for great chowder). Even though we would still give the resort a 4 star, Guy's Beachside Bar and Grill gets 2 stars, for not even coming close to the resort's historic conch chowder (prior to becoming Guy's about a year ago), and for having below average food compared to surrounding options. However, if you're in for drinks and a sunset, you can't beat Guy's unless you're in Key West. read more
