I heard a lot of good things about this place and it had an amazing story so I was hoping for an amazing meal. Unfortunately it didn't meet the hype. The lobster bisque had no lobster at all, it was pretty much a lobster flavor bisque. The bone in ribeye was ok it had a great char but not very flavorful even with the garlic butter they put on top. The service was good overall but even with reservations we still had to wait outside for 35 minutes before we could be seated and got lit up by the mosquitos. If you haven't been before give it a try for the experience but definitely not somewhere I'd visit again. read more

We had postponed celebrating our anniversary and decided to dine here at this long established restaurant and celebrate. This place has been around since 1962 so we felt great about choosing to dine here. We arrived and were seated in a private space. The decor is definitely old school steak house with dark woods etc. Our server Brandon introduced himself and provided some great service. I had previewed the menu and was a little torn between ordering a steak or the Beef Tenderloin Stroganoff. We ultimately decided to order the following items: Bowl of Ziggie's Lobster Bisque and a Wedge Salad - The lobster bisque was truly one of the best I had ever tasted. So creamy and full of flavor. Of course it could have used more lobster pieces. The wedge salad was also great with the bacon and house made dressing. Centercut Filet Mignon and the Beef Tenderloin Stroganoff - The steak was really solid and delicious. I added some bernaise sauce on the side which I really didn't need as the steak was so savory. The Beef Tenderloin Stroganoff was a huge disappointment. I had seen other reviews that did not speak highly of this dish and now I understand why. The dish itself was loaded with egg noodles, gravy and VERY little beef. I found myself thinking of the old Wendy's commercial "Where's the Beef? HA! HA! Needless to say, we were very disappointed with this dish. We each enjoyed a nice glass of Malbec as it paired well with our dinner. We were way too full to enjoy a dessert. I would return here and make a meal of the Lobster Bisque and the Wedge Salad, but pass on the Beef Tenderloin Stroganoff until the kitchen learns to make it the right way. read more

Ok so the rating is driven by not only the size of the servings but also the pricing as the value is stellar. We had a great meal at a nice table and the only photo no included is the fish dip as it was a special and not regularly on the menu. As a Keys resident, all my friends would rave about their meals here. I had the opportunity to try Ziggie's (it's quite the drive for me) recently. It was crowded but not crazy. I sat at the bar with Kevin, who was excellent at taking care of a full bar. I had the filet mignon which was really tender. It wasn't as flavorful as I had expected & wish I would have chosen the peppercorn sauce. The Old Fashioned was good, but not great. For $18, I had expected to be 'wowed.' I have heard only good things about Ziggie & Mad Dog's and my experience with them was great. I went early on a Sunday evening, sat at the bar and quickly joined by 10 other locals. They knew where to come. I ordered hog fish, onion rings, and a chopped salad. All were great. Service at the bar was enjoyable. The bartender was cute, and funny. We had an incredible dinner last night at Ziggies & Mad Dog's, and I can't believe it took us this long to try it! We come down to the Keys 2-3 times a year and this is officially added to our MUST visit list. First of all, our waitress, Ariana, was AMAZING (no, really, she was incredible). She went above and beyond the entire night. Super friendly, gave great recommendations, checked on us often, and just had such a good vibe. She made the whole experience even better. Now to the food... we started with the wahoo fish dip and the Yucca bites (part of their specials that night). The Wahoo dip was honestly one of the best I've ever had!!! it was super fresh, flavorful, and served with capers and purple onions, and some cracker options. So, so GOOD! && the yucca bites.... lightly fried with gooey mozzarella in the middle... to die for, YUM. For entrées, my boyfriend ordered the filet with a lobster tail special and couldn't stop raving about it. I had the cowboy bone-in ribeye, and it was perfection. Both steaks were cooked perfectly and every bite was melt in your mouth deliciousness. They serve them with garlic butter on top and oh my god... incredible. We also ordered the mushrooms and potatoes au gratin, and both were absolutely delicious. OH, I forgot to mention, before the meal, they bring out their bread with honey butter, and it ended up being some of the best bread I've ever had in my life. Dangerous because it's so good, but definitely worth it. Even though we were stuffed, Ariana surprised us with their homemade key lime pie... and this was easily one of the best I've ever tried. It has a coconut whipped cream on top, is made in-house, and was phenomenal. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere were all spectacular. ZERO complaints. This has officially become one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the Keys. We will 100% be coming back every trip. Highly, highly recommend! Well it did not disappoint again. Starting with the bread with their amazing honey butter and a Caesar salad divided for two anchovies on his none on mine. We sat bar side and the temperature in the room was nice and cool. Bill was our waiter. He was definitely cool. My hubby had the burger and I had the 12 ounce filet. Yum. We shared a baked potato with the toppings on the side. That bacon for the potato is delish. To finish the meal we had the strawberry cheesecake. Needless to say we are stuffed. Just spent my 62nd birthday here. We walked in 830pm with only a 15 min wait on a weeknight. Drinks were great and food was too. We ended up taking it to go as we were tired from the sun all day and food was fabulous day after also!! We come here every year and it never disappoints!! The food, the service and ambience are outstanding. If you are a wine and steak lover this place is for you.

I highly recommend making reservations, as this place gets quite busy. From the outside, it may not look like much, but the interior is surprisingly nice. The service is good, and the ambiance is inviting. They start you off with fresh bread, which is a nice touch. Since we were in Florida, we tried the gator bites--they were heavily breaded and fried, so the flavor of the meat didn't stand out, but they weren't bad. The steaks and fish were both well-prepared, with generous portions that are great for sharing. Just keep in mind that everything is served a la carte. read more

Service top to bottom 5 Andrew the manager is beyond his years experience for his age. It is as if he was born to manage this iconic place. We absolutely love him. He has the respect of his team like a U of M FOOTBALL COACH. Our server Clare is just plain graceful at her craft. She and all the servers are special. The bus service gents are incredible too. Had excellent dinner with family and friends when I was vacationing in the area. Great steakhouse with excellent service and food. When I called to make a reservation the only thing they had available was a table outside. It actually turned out to be a beautiful night out and wasn't too hot or windy. We started off our meal with and order of the phyllo encrusted escargot which was amazing. The phyllo crust gave it a nice crunch and there was plenty of butter to dip the complementary dinner bread in. For entrees, i ordered the delmonico ribeye Oscar style. I really enjoyed the steak itself and probably didn't need to make it Oscar style. Don't get me wrong the crab meat, bearnaise sauce and asparagus were all excellent, but the ribeye itself was the star of the show here. They cooked it perfectly to medium rare and left a nice crust on the steak. My friend got the filet mignon Oscar style and he really enjoyed his as well. My gf got the fresh local catch. She thought this was just okay and could use more flavor. For sides we had the Pistachio Creamed Spinach and the Mac and Cheese. Both were great. Service throughout the meal was very attentive without being over imposing. Multiple members of the team there stopped to check in on the table, remove any plates, etc. You can tell the team there are all dedicated to giving good service. We headed here after it was a little too cold to dine outdoors at our previous choice. Our waitress recommended this was the spot for steaks. We sat on the outside covered and mostly closed in patio and it was not too cold so that was really nice. When we first sat it was great. We got greeted right away and were able to order cocktails and a salad on the first go but from there we assume the inside got really busy because we were left alone.... Food wise: We got our wedge very quickly and it was nice and fresh. Our second app was the scallops and those were the highlight of our meal which is slightly ironic given how we were told this is a steak place and that's their bread and butter. But speaking of bread and butter that was delightful. Our steaks were good and large and cooked to our preferred specs but it wasn't anything to brag about. Overall I wouldn't go back. OMG! Absolutely amazing dinner! After two nights of disappointing dinners at other restaurants in the upper Keys, Ziggy and Mad Dog's reset our view of Key's cuisine. We had absolutely no idea what to expect except a friend on our dive trip mentioned he had a great steak there. We ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer, Wagu steak and crab cake, Filet medallions, asparagus, and potatoes au gratin. Everything was phenomenal and the service was exceptional! It is not cheap but you get what you pay for. This restaurant is a 5 star establishment and probably one of the best in the Key's. Highly recommended. read more

My wife and I made reservations for her birthday and were met by a totally unprofessional trio of young ladies at the door. One showed us to our table which was in a corner with no lighting near a wine cooler. The waiter sounded like he had memorized a script in talking to us. Zero personality. I mentioned that we might need a flashlight to order BECAUSE OF THE DARKNESS OF OUR CORNER TABLE. He just stared at me. The waiter, in a monotone, voiced the specials, especially the Hogfish which my wife and I had never had. He never mentioned prices as most high-class restaurants would while going through the lineup of specials, and in retrospect we should have asked. We ordered the Hogfish with a side of Potatoes Au gratin for two. The Hogfish arrived overly immersed in panko and covered with some kind of cheese sauce and the potatoes showed up as a watery mixture in a bowl. Whatever was on the Hogfish totally blocked any natural taste of the fish. We did order three jumbo shrimp topping the Hogfish and that waw all we ate (after we figured what the shrimp were, remember we were at a dark table). The potatoes were a disaster. We literally could not see our meal at the dark table. My wife mentioned that this was probably a good thing. The waiter was obviously working to push us through so he could get some other customers (our reservation was for 5:30 pm which is when they open). We also ordered Lobster Bisque which was not warm but COLD. We realize you can't serve a bisque hot but it should at least be warm. Instead of asking us how the meal was the waiter tried to talk us into dessert. By this time we had had enough and just wanted to leave. Recommendations: There are enough other fine restaurants in the area. Find one. Food is extremely overpriced and we had the impression that there is a "Cook" in the kitchen, not a "Chef." Service was workable but lacking personal touch. In a class restaurant the server would have noted the dark table and my comment about "needing a flashlight to see the menu," and offered another table. We arrived as they opened and many tables were available. By not telling the customer the prices on specials, the server leaves the impression of a bait and switch. But like I mentioned, we should have asked. Patrons are not number one here. Making money is. We enjoyed Islamorada and after telling other locals about our experience, they told is some more Ziggy stories that say customers should pick another place to eat. I think quite possibly staff members might be loading up some of the reviews I read about this place. read more

This unassuming building just steps off the main road surprised up with excellent food! The saying. "Don't judge a book by its cover" really applies here. Chris was our server, and although proficient, he was apathetic. We had a very noisy table of 7 men directly behind us. He shrugged. I told him we were on our honeymoon. He seemed to not care. I told him again later - same non response. Disappointing. But, the food was excellent, albeit a bit pricey. We've been in the area 3 different times and never have tried Ziggie. They are know for steaks and that's what we had. I had the bone in ribeye and I could not eat it all. The steak was amazing and so was the service. My side was the macaroni and cheese and it was amazing. My wife had the bone in pork chop and that also was amazing. Most underwhelming and unnecessarily ultra thick rich sauces. Taste=0 Shrimp was so overcooked, It was inedible. Beef stroganoff was missing the beef. None. A place I've been wanting to try for five years and realized it is just bad. Friendly staff but bad preparation of food. Petty on the extra costs of making a bland steak taste better, asked for sauce was charged for it after the server forgot to add to the already overpriced bill. We went to Ziggies & Mad Dog's at the recommendation of our Captain. It was sophisticated and elegant. Our waiter Iverson was terrific. Attentive without hovering, did not make us feel rushed and very observant when our glasses needed refilling. Had pork belly skewers for an appetizer and it just melted in our mouth. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked and the stroganoff I had was so hot I had to blow on it. The sauce was perfectly creamy and nicely seasoned. A terrific experience all around. read more

If you want it chopped they charge you They were out of the beef medallions which seemed odd so early in the night and it's what I wanted specifically. Disappointed. My husband had the filet which was 12 oz. Why not offer to split the 12 oz? I had a stuffed potato for my dinner, dissatisfied. They did bring cheesecake on the house for our anniversary.
