Tereible service. I was never greeted when I arrived. Told the technician, who appeared to be on a personal call, that I needed a smog check. He conducted the entire inspection and transaction while on the phone call loudly arguing with someone. Did not even put the phone down while processing the payment for the service. I've taken all my smogs there for about 6 or 7 years now. They have always shot straight with me and told me as early as they could if they were aware something something was an issue before that needed to be addressed. Many shops know full-well that I'll fail but take my money then tell me afterward, which is BS. I have sent family and friends there for smog and repairs. They are not just parts changers, they'll evaluate the problem first. Recently, I sent my ex wife there (I know, we're cool). She had a pipe broken by her muffler. Other shops quoted her to replace the exhaust from the head to the tailpipe for $3,200, more than the pos was worth. These guys advised us to get the pipe welded and they were stoked and fixed for under $1k. read more

From the moment I walk in the first I had an amazing experience with this shop. I always do my smog here. The customer service is outstanding. They took the time to listen to my concerns, and provide expert advice on the necessary repairs. I drive a Toyota car and a month ago had my engine light come out, so I went to Toyota to have it diagnose and the estimate ended up being like $8000. When I went to see Guys smog to get a second opinion after they diagnose my engine light they told me that the only think I need it was a new fuel tank cap and that should fix the engine light and it did. New to Martinez and based upon my Yelp Community Reviews I was inclined to support Local Business. They have a coupon advertised on Yelp for $31.75 plus an $8.25 certificate fee for most 2000 or newer vehicles. They have a few ancillary charges if your vehicle is 1995 or older vehicles are $20.00 extra. Trucks, Vans, and SUV's are an additional $10.00. 1996 to 1999 vehicles an extra $10.00 and if Diesel and Out of State an additional $10.00 They had 1 older Toyota Truck in front of me that took extra time to complete which justifies the extra charges. I'm sure some other vehicles by design could have additional charges not listed depending on how labor intensive it can be. My 2020 Prius was very simple and I was out fast. Unfortunately, I just moved from Illinois and got the extra $10.00 charge bringing my total to $50.00 It's a fair charge. I know dealerships charge substantially more. The tech was their usual mechanic persona. Guess, some people could be taken back by it but you don't pay them to be personable. read more

Had to Smog my car last week and it reminded about going here 2 yrs ago. Live in Richmond, work in Martinez. Mistakenly sent in my check to pay registration before smogging the car so to make sure no issues that DMV didn't reject me rushed to this location closest to my work location to make sure smog pass was in place first. Honestly i feel dude was trying to fail me. Honda accord that has had catalytic converter stolen (Bay Area surprised?), i had replaced with CA compliant unit and nobody but nobody has ever questioned it. This placed lifted my car up, told me he had to check part #'s etc.... 45+ mins later very reluctantly (IMO) passed me. Overall place gave me a locals and 'good' fellas vibe only. He is friendly, focused and very helpful. I've never had to wait for more than 30 minutes to get in and out. He once informed me that I had a gas cap issue and that the next time I had to smog my truck it should be replaced. He is proactive in making things work, he will help when he can make a difference and I appreciate his service over the many years he as taken care of me and my vehicles. This place is a rip off. Took my 1987 4Runner over there and before it's even written up the one guy insinuates it's not gonna pass. 20 minutes later I'm told it failed. They said the timing was off by 25...!!! And that it could be the TPS. Also failed due to high NOX. Told it could be the EGR or CAT. Asked me if I plan to do the work myself? Not. Took it to my brother-in-law over at Toyota Marin. Valve adjustment and reset timing which was retarded by 3. 25....??? Waste of time and $80. Never again. Came here at 8am on a weekday with no appointment and they had my car done in 10 min! Great location in downtown mtz. All you need to do is mention their online coupon and they will give you that price! My 2007 Honda civic was $40 out the door with certificate! Best price around!!!! The guy who helped me was very sweet and helpful. Knocking a star because when i came back to get my car he left it on their corner with the windows rolled down! I bought a used car off Craigslist in Martinez, and the seller recommended this place. I assumed it would pass, so I didn't care where I went, so I took his advice since this was the closest place to go. Bad idea. Before the car was even tested, the owner (I guess), who is the father of at least one of the other workers, gave me incorrect information saying that the seller by law has to smog it before selling, and how if it doesn't pass that's bad news for me. Really? I had no idea (sarcasm). This was inappropriate to begin with. It's none of his business. Then he proceeded to ask how much I paid for the car and told me he thinks I paid too much. Thanks! He also showed me something under the hood which he called suspicious and said how someone was trying to bypass something and this or that. So, it ended up not passing, but they didn't tell me anything about why. I called them later after freaking out on the seller, who sold it as a business so was NOT obligated by law to smog it, and they said they charge $90 to diagnose a problem, and that they do not subtract that charge from the cost of the repair if the repair is done there, which in my experience most shops usually do! I ended up getting a simple $40 welding job done at a muffler shop to fix a leak in the exhaust pipe. Then, I called this place back to ask if they offer a free retest, and they said no. Retests are half price. So, I went somewhere else closer to the muffler shop in Pittsburg I was at, and luckily it passed. Needless to say, I would not recommend this place, especially to women. There are much better and cheaper places you can go instead of this place. I most definitely will never return there again. read more

Really liked this place. Took a truck we recently purchased for smog and it was in and out fast. The staff/owner(s) were nice and professional. Plan to take any vehicles that need a Smog cert here in the future. Prices are competitive and fair. I used to use coupons and such and frequently travelled town to nearby town(s), but after adding up travel time, gas prices, the wait time, the "hidden" fee's imposed at drop off, etc. etc., I finally did the math & figured it all added up to basically the same end-cost(s), if I just went "local" to nearby in-town place!
