I hadn't eaten here in years so I thought I'd try it again. It's truly alternative with a trendy vibe, but it does better in warm weather, with the rooftop. I ordered the fish tacos which were salmon with mango and to die for. The only problem were that they come in three tacos, and I seriously only needed one! Well my side salad might be made out of the most wilted lettuce I've ever seen. Some cheap and gross shredded yellow cheese and three cherry tomatoes. Thanks. Also my waffle fries...served in a cereal bowl. Onto the crawfish boil; they claim this is 2lbs of food but there is no way. We had some bad crawfish on our plates, two corn cobs and like four potatoes. The two times I've been here I have not been impressed. They weren't that busy when we came in, so I was surprised that it took a while to get our food. Thankfully, the tequila sunfryz and Negroni that I ordered was good. The tequila queso and the cilantro crema over the waffle fries made the dish a total hit. The fries were crispy and the entire dish was so flavorful and delicious. The pulled pork wasn't dried and was pretty tasty. The portion is huge! I had it as leftover and had it for lunch the next day. Overall good waitstaff and I will likely to come back again, but will probably choose to sit out on the patio since it is dark and cramp inside. read more

If you know me, you have most likely have heard of me rave about the Tequila Sunfriez. Literally, every time I'm out late at night and my friends and I start getting hungry, the first thing I always suggest is going to Guyutes for the tequila sunfriez! Waffle fries smothered with a whole lot of goodness. It's definitely shareable, but you literally won't be able to stop eating it. Their kitchen is open until 1:30 am every night, and honestly, this is such an underrated aspect of Guyutes. It is extremely difficult to find a place still serving restaurant quality food past 11 pm. Sometimes, you don't want fast food and just want to sit down somewhere and eat good quality food. Plus, Guyutes has a great selection of drinks! My favorite entree to get here is Franklin's Tower, blackened chicken on a bed of mashed potatoes. This dish is to die for! I'm seriously drooling thinking about it right now. The only thing is I wish the portion size is bigger especially for the price that I'm paying for it. I have not had any of their other dishes, but all my friends that I've been here with have never been disappointed by our food! I apologize that there will be no food porn in this post, as we DOVE into our plates the second they hit our table. We started out with an order of the Tequila Sunfryz. That crispy pork, queso, fried egg, ALL OF IT was SO GOOD! My friend ordered the Disco Biscuit. I was fortunate enough to get a bite of that deliciousness. I was intrigued by The Good-Good Salad and The Pip, but ultimately decided on Peace In the Middle East. Every single thing about that wrap was amazing, too. I can't wait to take my husband back so I can try more of the menu. We sat on the patio, which is fantastic. Today, at 1:30pm was greeted by a hostess with a major attitude who became irritated we asked to sit somewhere other than where she wanted to seat us...then we learn part of the menu isn't even available- I get that for a Sunday brunch, but not Saturday. Maybe the hipster cool works for the beer drinking demographic, but don't sacrifice service and effort for that perception- lots of other great places I can go... Seriously, some of the best food I've ever had. Yes, it's a bar, but this isn't bar food. It's truly gourmet food, a la Ludivine. This is barely a three star review because of the service. We had to flag down our waiter each time we wanted something. At one point, another employee walked by, made eye contact, and ignored our waive. When our server delivered the check he said that we seemed like we were in a hurry and asked if we were going somewhere to watch the game. Yes. (And it would have been nice if you would have given us better service if that was immediately apparent to you) The side dishes were the stars. The grilled okra was perfect. I ate every piece. My boyfriend loved the waffle fries. Very crispy and delicious. The disco chicken biscuit wasn't as good as I thought it would be. If I come here again, I would order the honey butter sauce on the side. The biscuit soaked up all of the sauce and began to disintegrate. The chicken was good, but the sauce was over powering. Absolutely love the atmosphere and employees at Guyutes. My recent experience was really fun and relaxed. Definitely enjoyed our server! I went for brunch with my friend and we split the carafe of mimosas which were everything and more than we could want. We have been to this location several times in the past and have always had an enjoyable experience and the food is normally always amazing. Unfortunately I will say that my experience with food this time was not as good as I was hoping for. I ordered the Bisco and gravy along with the Little Caesars. The flavors of the biscuits and gravy were amazing, but the biscuits seemed to be extremely dry and overcooked and the eggs were not evenly cooked. One egg was undercooked while the other was half cooked. We also split the Okra-Homa which had some pieces that tasted good and others that were not eatable and overall it just seemed like the food was not what I was used to or expected. I love this restaurant and feel like maybe the cooking was just off my recent experience, but I would not let that deter me from going again in the future. This place is somewhat off the beating path, but well worth the trip. The staff is really attentive, the food is interesting and delicious, and the music and decor give this place a really cool vibe. We visited mid-day on a Saturday and sat inside, but there are tables outside if you want to soak up some rays while you eat. They have tons of great beers, and lots of unique cocktails. I ordered a coconut one that was to-die for, but can't recall the name (it was a little long). For food, we had the Traffic Light as our starter, and the Peace in the Middle East and Monte Carlos for our mains - all of which were delicious! I would definitely recommend this spot for dates, large groups, and anything in-between. If you can't tell by the metal T. rex right outside; this place is unique and funky. Definitely hipster central, but that's ok because the food is absolutely incredible. The menu is super diverse with tons of options for even the pickiest eaters. My husband and I went here for date night and were super happy with the service, food, and atmosphere. The pig lips appetizers is definitely a must. Can you really go wrong with anything that involves bacon!? I also got The Guyute which was a definite taste sensation. I loved the giant wall murals and rusty T-Rex statue, haha That said, I think it's more of a bar with fun, witty food menu. Their alcohol menu seems to be extensive. We don't drink, so I can't speak to that. I ordered a Diet Coke and was given a can (that cost $3, FYI) with a cup of ice. Just not what I'm used to for a casual dinner out. Our waters were never empty, though, that was nice!! The food was clean and fresh and creative, and delicious! Lots of unusual combinations and excellent ingredients (like arugula and sweet potatoes instead of plain lettuce and russets, plus so many tempting pizzas). LOVED the fried shrimp tacos (daily special when we visited)!! Appreciated that they were not greasy, but I was hungry enough to wish they had come with rice as the waiter had said. We got so lucky to visit on a day the weather was PERFECT for sitting upstairs on the sun deck. Just gorgeous. The colorful murals are so fun. Don't let their menu deter you. It took me awhile to realize why I kept telling people I didn't want to eat at Guyutes.. because it is my kind of environment, and walking distance from my house. then I realized it is because I don't like reading their menu. Everything is too much of a pun, so it really just comes off as trying to hard. When all together they have some great food! But I even at brunch here yesterday, probably the 10th time. And still hated picking something off that menu. BUT. Their $10 mimosa carafe, and an overall average of $10 plate for brunch... keeps me coming. Their rooftop patio is so much fun, and they keep it well shaded with umbrellas. It is the only rooftop you're going to find on 23rd street, so it isn't a perspective you get to see often. They blast music late at night to give it a more upbeat vibe, but in a good way. I haven't had food here that I didn't like. But if you're overwhelmed, I will always suggest the tequila sunfryz. Somehow their waffle fries and their queso are both TO DIE FOR. Add some shredded pork and it is an entire meal and a half. Also worth mentioning: The Return of The Mac (I have no shame, this thing is phenomenal, and worth every calorie) The disco biscuit was decent. The pork tasted like nothing, bland eggs, bland corn tortilla that broke after one bite. Not to mention the plate is a long rectangle that you can't even eat over so all of your bland taco filling spills on the table.
