This small little gem is only slightly off the beaten track on Farmington Avenue. The food and service are superb! The three of us chose two appetizers and three entrees fully intending on leftovers, but, the food was so good it was hard to stop eating. We chose the burekas and a Jerusalem bagel with smoked labneh and eggplant for appetizers. Then, had a lamb kebab, Mediterranean not fried fries, and cheese ravioli with beetroot cream sauce for entrees. All were excellent and throughly enjoyed. I missed getting a photo of the Mediterranean fries, but, don't miss out trying them. Delicious with chicken shawarma.

We stopped into Gveenah this week and it was great! The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable about not just the food, but also allergens, which is a big plus. They also have tons of gluten free options. We ordered a cucumber lime fizz, a tahini shake (I was definitely questioning this one), some hummus, and a sabich flatbread. Cucumber and like always makes a good drink, in my opinion. My husband really wanted to try the tahini shake, and I was surprised that it was good. It was mixed with banana, so it tasted more nutty than a sharp tahini taste. The hummus was delicious and we really enjoyed the sabich flatbread. Definitely a place in West Hartford to visit! We'll be back!

Very tasty, pricy but cooked with passion Came here after checking some reviews and decided to make the trek. The space is small but cozy. It's very much a little cafe in design and feel. The owner was front of house, talked about the menu and specials. We opted for the chefs bread, the fresh catch crudo, and the lamb ravioli special. Menu lacks a lot of meat options. not a bad thing, but I noticed it. First to come out was the daily catch crudo. Presentation was very nice, fish was fresh and well seasoned. A very nice curated bite, with a presentation of a tasting menu in a fancy restaurant. Next was the chefs bread. Bread was literally baked to order, which was piping hot when we got it. It was a little hard to handle, but the dips were great. The smoked lamdeh was my favorite, while the missus really enjoyed the hummus and the tomato dips. Lastly we got the lamb ravioli, and those were unfortunately very tough. We thought they might've undercooked the pasta and it was just very toothy. We informed the owner who immediately went to the back of house with our dish with no communication to our party. After a 20 minute wait, he returned with a fresh plate stating that the dough was overworked and they had to make a new batch of dough. The attention to detail is impeccable and the new batch was much better in terms of quality. The sauce was tasty and the lamb was heavily seasoned but lamb needs that to get rid of the gaminess. Despite that hiccup, it's clear that they care about not only the quality of their product but the satisfaction of their guests. The food does take a while to come out, and they could be a little better in terms of communication. But this place does exemplify a diamond in the rough. The bites are tasty, the owner is great, and the quality is well worth the price.

This restaurant is small but the environment is welcoming! I had the chefs bread and the oxtail ravioli! There are so many items to choose from this menu I have to return to try more dishes. I recommend and I will return!

Moroccan Fish with tortellini, etc. in a "butter sauce"

Gveenah is a relatively new Mediterranean restaurant that opened in the former Black Bamboo space on Farmington Ave in West Hartford. I recently visited for a solo workday lunch. The food I tried was good and the people were nice and welcoming , but I don't think this is the right space for food of this quality and price. If you ever visited the old Black Bamboo (which re-opened a bit up the road), there is a small eating area as you walk in, and a large kitchen in the back. That worked for Black Bamboo because their food is ideal for takeout, and there were a few spots for people who wanted to eat there. Gveenah is offering elegant food such as Branzino, Moroccan Style Fish, ceviche, pastas, fish crudo, Shakshuka, etc. This is really food best experienced in person with other people and I think it loses something in takeout. They have other food that may work better for takeout. In any event, with the current configuration, they can't really sit more than a few very small groups of people at the same time. This level of food and service deserves a larger space. Since I was dining alone, this space worked fine for me. I ordered Moroccan Style Fish. The fish varies depending upon, I assume, the best option they can find that day. It was tile fish for me. Tile fish is a firm white fish. They served it in a "butter sauce", with tortellini, yogurt, chickpeas, leeks and some other vegetables. The fish was high quality. I would have preferred it a bit less done and a bit more seasoned, but it worked well as you broke it up and it combined it with more flavorful aspects of the dish. I'm not familiar with a Moroccan Butter Sauce. It presented more like a brothy soup than a sauce to me. In any event, it arrived steaming hot and elegantly presented. It was a healthy satisfying meal. If this experience occurred in a more appealing and roomy space, this would be a 4.5 Star review and I would round up to 5 Stars. But the space being what it is, this is a 4 Star review.

Basic interior, excellent pasta. Mediterranean I guess. My lunch was good, but I'm hard pressed to say much more.

I'm so, so impressed by Gveenah. Gveenah is brand new to West Hartford's Farmington Avenue, they are a Mediterranean fusion restaurant. The space is very, very small inside. The tables are very close together. You could see everyone's plates and hear everyone's orders. Chef Roi Graber arrived here from Israel, he has taken us on another level with his culinary skills. They don't serve alcohol at Gveenah, you're welcome to bring your own. They offer lemonade, coffee, tea, specialty lemonades and such. Now for the food, we got an assortment of dishes and shared everything. The Fish Crudo, this might have been raw tuna. This was so flavorful and acidic, with lemon juice and herbs. The presentation was beautiful, and there was enough bread for soaking up all the juices! We were impressed! We got the Beef Carpaccio, you could have fooled me and told me it was fish, this was super tasty! Of course their Ceviche was another winner! The Buche Salad was super fresh with peaches, pecans, radishes, buche cheese, and topped with the most delightful dressing. The Moroccan Style Fish was super, super tender, without a single bone. Surrounded by the creamiest sauce, with some of the juiciest tortellini. Wow! That was a lot of food! We concluded with their in-house made Dubai Chocolate Desert. This came in a little jar with pistachio cream on the bottom topped with hardened chocolate on top. This is the one thing that was just ok for me. This was far too tiny to fully enjoy especially shared. It was also difficult to dig in with the spoon, because it was essentially frozen. It was pretty tasty, but a better presentation would be appreciated. We were all so impressed by every single dish at Gveenah. The presentation, the FLAVOR, and the service, everything was superb! Even Chef Roi came out to see how everything was. I must also mention the prices are super reasonable. Our total bill was $112.00. I highly recommend you check out Gveenah. Their unique dishes will keep me a return customer.

Gveenah is a brand new place (former black bamboo space) that has decided to offer something different - Mediterranean fusion. There are aspects of all sorts of flavors and it differs a bunch from another place down Farmington Ave - Zohara. It's a small space with just a few tables (but table service which was nice) and very friendly servers. I wished I could've tried more but I got the pappardelle with fennel, peas and lemon cream sauce. The pasta was very fresh and cooked perfectly (just a tad Al dente as it should be). I'm normally a little skeptical of lemon sauces finding many to be too tart but this wasn't at all. It had a nice subtle flavor to it and just worked really well. The place is also kosher meaning that they don't serve meat and dairy -- rather they are firmly in the pescatarian world with dairy, fish and vegetables all in their wheelhouse. But don't be put off by the label if you don't keep kosher. (Though they are closed for dinner on Friday and all day Saturday). This is just good food at reasonable prices for the quality and quantity. Look forward to returning again soon.

Some of the best Mediterranean food my husband and I have had, and so affordable, too! I'm honestly so critical and harsh when it comes to kosher food, but this blew us away. Gveenah might rival Zohara. We went for lunch and got the cortado, the chef's appetizer special, the cucumber seltzer drink, the branzino, and the sea bass. The bread and dips in the chef's special we're clearly homemade and fresh. Oh how fresh the bread was! The fish dishes were perfect portions and the pasta was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The spices are so rich and flavorful. I really have no feedback other than I wish they were playing Israeli music on the speakers. Gveenah is a special little place and I hope WeHa shows them the love they deserve. Go check out their authentic dishes whenever you need a wholesome meal to enjoy. You'll be returning time and time again. I know we will!

Beef cheek with bulgar. This is the most tender beef you will ever eat.

This is a new favorite for me. The level of cooking is tremendous and different from what's been on offer from other restaurants. Had the Jerusalem bagel and if you love sesame this is for you. The accompaniments were also excellent. For mains we had the beef cheek with bulgar and lamb risotto. Both were delicious but the beef cheek really stood out and I think is can't miss. Service was very friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is comfortable if a bit spare but only serves to help emphasize the food. A unique new gem for the Hartford area and I'm already making plans to go back soon.

My husband and I stopped into Gveenah for dinner and were so impressed with our meal! So many interesting Mediterranean/italian fusion dishes that are unique for the area. Everything was incredibly fresh. The warm bread with dips, perfectly cooked sea bass, and homemade tortellini were stand outs. Chef Roi was so nice, and we really fell in love with his cooking. Dining in was cozy, and it's definitely a great takeout option. Wishing this new business the best of luck!

I also tried the Korean sticky bbq ribs, the chicken satay and the tuna tartare tacos. I was extremely happy with them all. Scott our bartender was phenomenal filling the drinks. I enjoyed a Spanish wine, the Secret Garden and the espresso martini. The dessert was even fabulous! A peach parfait made with local fresh peaches from Roger's Orchard. City Kebab is a Middle Eastern kebab restaurant that opened in Hartford, Connecticut in September…read more2023. It was founded by husband and wife Uzbek immigrants Timur Rakhimov and Aziza Djalmamedova. The couple immigrated to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010. After over a decade of education, training, and hard work, they decided to try their luck as restaurateurs. They found a space that used to be home to Hook & Ladder Restaurant (right next to Hartford Fire Department's historic South Green Station). The couple hired Turkish immigrant Hasan Korkmaz as their head chef. Together, they curated a menu full of traditional Turkish and Uzbek cuisine that is all prepared in accordance with halal dietary laws. Some of the menu items include kebabs, samsas, falafel, gyro, and mezzo platters. I recently dined at City Kebab while I was in Hartford to see a concert. I checked Yelp to see if there was anywhere good to grab dinner before the show, and Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine sounded fantastic to me. When I entered, I was greeted by the very friendly co-owner Timur, who said, "I work for my wife. She's the real boss." After being seated, I began to look over the menu. When Timur returned, he tried to recommend that I get gyro. I told him, "Oh no. I know exactly what I want. I'd like to order a variety of small plates to sample. I'm a local food blogger and I want an authentic experience." Timur was just ecstatic and quickly went to give my order to the kitchen staff. I started off first with a small "Mixed Cold Appetizer" (combo of hummus, babganush, haydari, soslu patlican, antep ezme, avocado ezme), the "Falafel" (mixture of chickpeas, parsley, onions, garlic, Middle Eastern spices, deep fried) and a small teapot of "Turkish Black Tea". Timur brought me some complimentary "Ramazan Pidesi" (Turkish Bread) as well as a glass of "Fresh Squeezed Lemonade". He said, "You need to try this!" So far, everything was excellent! For the main course, I had the "Mixed Grill" (mixture of chicken shish, beef shish, kofte, lamb adana, beef & lamb gyro, served w/ white rice, bulgur rice, Mediterranean salad). It was a symphony of Mediterranean flavors! Timur surprised me with a "Pumpkin Samsa" (pumpkin filling in crispy pastry, seasoned with spices, served w/ tomato sauce) and said, "You can't leave without trying this. It's an Uzbek specialty!" It was very tasty! Before the meal was over, he said, "Save some room. I have another surprise for you at the end." He brought me "Künefe with Dondurma" (Turkish ice cream). I had never tried this before. Stuffed with melted mozzarella and then topped with pistachio and almond crumbles, it was simply divine! I repeatedly thanked Timur for his hospitality and for sharing his culinary cultural traditions with me. I had enough leftovers for both my wife and I to have for dinner the following evening. I'll definitely be returning with my whole family. If you're looking for an authentic Middle Eastern culinary experience in Hartford, then look no further than City Kebab!
