Mixed grill platter with lamb, chicken, kofta.
    Lindsay F.

Go here and thank me later. The food was fresh and seasoned beautifully. We both got the mixed grill which came with delicious lamb, chicken, and kofta. The rice was fabulous and not just an afterthought like you get at most restaurants. The rice was moist and richly flavored and served as a great accompaniment to the meat. Fresh pita, garlic and spicy hummus, a lovely fresh salad with mint and herbs. The meal was excellent. We grabbed some pastries to go including the mamoun, birds nests, and baklava. Great service, even better food. We will absolutely be back and highly recommend it!

I work nearby and stumbled upon this hidden gem during my lunch break -- and wow, am I glad I did! This Mediterranean spot in Middletown is an absolute must-try. The beef kebab wrap is hands-down one of the best lunches I've ever had. The beef was perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy, wrapped up with fresh veggies and a sauce that ties it all together in the most satisfying way. You can tell everything is made in-house -- from the bread to the spreads -- and it makes all the difference in flavor. And don't even get me started on the desserts. I tried the baklava and a pistachio pastry, and both were out of this world -- flaky, rich, and clearly made with care. The staff is warm, the portions are generous, and the prices are more than fair for the quality you're getting. I'll definitely be back (probably more times than I should admit) -- this is officially my new go-to spot during the workweek.

We really enjoyed it. Food was very fresh the owners son was super friendly and helpful. And very proud of his mom's recipes. It's Mediterranean with (as he said) a Syrian bias. Some of the crispiest, tastiest falafel I've had. There's some many excellent eateries on Main Street, make sure you add Parsley.

I've been meaning to stop here since they opened and tonight I finally had the chance. I'm so glad I stopped in because everything I got is absolutely delicious. Staff were so helpful in making selections as it was my first time here and the recommendations that were made were fantastic. The portions are huge so I will get at least two meals out of the bowl that I got. I didn't eat in but loved the decor and color scheme. It was very welcoming and I cannot wait to go back! Finally a place in Middletown that isn't an Italian or Mexican restaurant!

    Do they offer gluten free?

There would be plenty of gluten free options. They have hummus, rice, tons of greens and veggies, meats. So many good options!

Huge portions, unfriendly service, and clean seating area…read more Ordered the falafel gyro with white and coriander sauces, as well as the pakora chips The portion size of the gyro was huge, and it was absolutely delicious. It was also very aesthetically appealing, and I was sorry I didn't snap a picture. The pakora chips were tasty, but reminded me of potato wedges more than South Asian style pakoras. If I were to go back, I would get the pakora chips, but they are definitely misleadingly labelled. Shah's appears to be more of a takeout spot than a dine-in restaurant, but the seating area and restroom were spotless. The establishment is also very conveniently located, and ample parking was available on a weekday evening, though I am unsure about weekends. The person who took our order and assembled the gyros was not very warm or welcoming, though they were efficient. At one point, I felt sorry for having intruded into the establishment. At a place where dine-in is an option, that should not be the case. Overall, I would get take-out from here if I'm in the city again (the food is reasonably priced) but do not plan to dine-in.

It was founded by Afghan immigrant Ibrahim Mashriqi and his two business partners Shafiq "Shah" Mashriqi and Rahimullah Mashriqi. The business began with a simple food cart that would set up each day at the corner of 121st Street and Liberty Avenue in the Richmond Hill section of Queens. All of the food was prepared at home, using a small kitchen and a garage. The core menu items became their signature chicken and rice platters, gyros, chicken sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, hot wings, and burgers. Pretty soon they couldn't keep up with the supply and demand, and more food carts started popping up around Queens. As their popularity continued to grow, the brand shifted from food carts to brick & mortar restaurants. By 2016, Ibrahim's son Khalid Mashriqi took over as CEO of the company and took over all business operations. The company is a family affair, with nearly 60% of the corporate staff made up of members of the Mashriqi family. As of 2025, there are more than 90 Shah's locations in the U.S. and more than 150 worldwide. My family and I visited Shah's Middletown location this past summer while we were in the area. This location, the fifth Shah's to open in Connecticut, opened in September 2023. Mashriqi family members Rafi Mashriqi and Mohammad Mashriqi own and operate all of the Connecticut locations. My family and l had previously ordered food from the New Haven location and loved it. For this lunch occasion, my wife and I ordered and shared the "Chicken" and "Falafel" Salad Platters while our two sons shared a "Chicken Sandwich", "Chicken Nuggets" and "French Fries". As with our previous experience in New Haven, the food at the Middletown location was delicious! I also made sure to order a couple containers of Shah's famous "White Sauce" to take home. We plan on visiting Shah's locations again and again!

My friend and I started with a glass of wine, and the service in the beginning was good. However things quickly went downhill. This library proves you can't judge a book by its cover. We ordered the calamari appetizer. When it arrived, I opened my silverware from the napkin and discovered that my fork was filthy-- a giant glob of white, crusty food, the size of a dime, was still stuck between the prongs. I waited for my waitress to check in (she didn't deliver the food) but she never came. We tried to get the attention of another waitress and were ignored. After 10 minutes, with my calamari growing cold, I eventually walked to the bar to get a replacement. The bartended exclaimed, "Gross!" -- my sentiments exactly-- when I showed him the fork. By the time I actually sat down to eat, the calamari was cold. It was also super tough and chewy. There were hardly any peppers. We didn't eat much of it. I love French food, and I ordered the duck for dinner. I ordered it medium. When it arrived, it was cooked well done- perhaps in an oven rather than seared. I say this because the skin was not crispy and the fat had not rendered, so the skin/fat remained thick, chewy and inedible. Usually the crispy skin is the best part of duck, so I was disappointed. I had to cut off the skin and thick layer of fat to make it edible. It tasted quite gamey and there was no pink center. It came sliced into thirds, so they knew it was overcooked when they served it to me. I only ate a small portion. The rest of my dish (which came out looking stunning by the way) was also a big disappointment. Although it looked beautiful at first glance, I discovered the delicata squash still had the rough, inedible skin attached. The cherry sauce was heavy-handed and drowned my brussel sprouts, sweet potato purée and carrots to the point that all I could taste was the sauce (a thick, sugary glaze). I did my best to eat around it, because my waitress didn't check on us until much later. In fact we were basically done by the time I saw her again. I had given up at that point and left most of my food behind. There was also an issue with where we were seated. We had a small table in front of a window, but completely blocking a much larger table in a narrow corner. There was a family there when we arrived, and each time they got up to use the bathroom, I had someone's body pressed against my chair to squeeze by. A woman's behind actually grazed the back of my head at one point. When the family left, I could feel them brushing my coat off the back of my chair, resulting in them stepping on it. I can't blame them- it was a tight spot and a very awkward place for a table. I was annoyed that the waitstaff (I'm assuming) took the other chairs at my table, making a 4 seat table into a 2 seater, so I had no choice in where to sit. I didn't understand why they did this, because there was a lovely fireplace nearby and I had my back to it all night. Clearly, they weren't thinking about the dining experience from the customer's point of view. Maybe I could have switched tables but finding my waitress was like trying to find Waldo all evening, so it wasn't worth the hassle. Safe to say I won't be back. If you decide to try it out, be sure to get there early as parking is a pain to find at peak dinner hours.

Great tap selection and their wine list is pretty extensive to cover all palates. While the appetizers list looked good, we were not starving so we went right for the mains. I went with the duck and was so satisfied! Most say breast and you don't get the whole thing. Here you do! All the sides were flavorful and highlighted the duck. Some finishing salt would have been welcomed. My wife had the scallops and was so happy with the root veggies as she does not do glutton or flour and most places put it over something she can't eat. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu

Vegan spots. Italian. Mexican. Coffee shops and pastry counters. On this particular day the sun was out, the sidewalks were busy, and people from all walks of life were strolling the street. It's the kind of place where you can just sit for a bit, soak it all in, and watch the world go by. Today we decided to stop into a new place: Middletown Halal Grill & Pizza. We tried two pies: a classic cheese and a Philly cheesesteak pizza. Both were excellent. Everything started with a really flavorful crust. Nice balance of crisp on the outside with just the right amount of chew inside. The sauce was well balanced too. Not overly sweet, not acidic, just a nicely seasoned tomato sauce that let the other flavors shine. The cheese pizza was simple and well executed. Cheese evenly distributed and melted perfectly, giving that smooth, creamy texture you want in a good slice. The Philly pizza used the same base and added shaved steak, peppers, and onions. Great combination. No single ingredient trying to steal the show. Everything worked together. They also offered a side of house-made tzatziki sauce for the Philly. Now I know what you're thinking... putting a cold white sauce on hot pizza can get you some funny looks. But trust me on this one. It worked. The tzatziki was made in-house, light, refreshing, and added a cool contrast to the rich steak and cheese. Bonus points: the dough is made fresh daily. The place itself is a cool little spot. Nothing fancy. Very unassuming. But sometimes those are the best places. A perfect stop to grab a pie, sit for a bit, people watch on Main Street, or catch up with friends over good food. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, which always makes the experience better. They offer a variety of other items too, wings, grinders, and more. Everything on the menu is Halal, meaning no pork. And honestly, that's fine by me. This time I stuck with the pizzas, but next time I'm definitely going to try some of their Halal meats. Solid pizza. Friendly people. Great Main Street vibe. I'll definitely be back
