I came in to buy some soba and dipping sauce. The parking lot is pretty small, but I was able to snag a spot immediately. This is a small grocery store with an area with ready-to-eat items like rice bowls and onigiri. I was able to find my items pretty quickly, but I ended up noticing that the pricing at Mitsuwa is higher than pricing at the nearby Yama. I also couldn't find wasabi anywhere? Overall, it's a great marketplace for Japanese foods, snacks, and drinks, and I would come back. read more

There was a lil line but when the second cashier opened up it moved rather quickly. The service was very personal, she helped me with all of my questions. It's a smaller location compared to some of the others, so the selection isn't as extensive, but you can still find a wide variety of products. The store is clean, and the staff is attentive, I did find the price to be higher in some products compare to other Mitsuwa locations. read more

This is a small Japanese market in San Gabriel. They have enough to supply you with the basic necessities to make a cuisine. They have a small section for alcohol, beauty, snacks, sauces, protein, drinks and desserts. The ladies at the register were nice and the market was quiet. Everything is good. Everything is fresh . All the employees are very nice and professional. But there is one male employee that is terrible. The Asian guy cashier that wears glasses. I came across this Mitsuwa on Thanskgiving Day because I wondered in here trying to kill time while waiting to eat at Newport Seafood across the street. There were so many visually stimulating items from hot foods, cold foods, cut meats & fishes, to drinks, to snacks galore. A lot of items brought nostalgic memories for me as it triggered childhood memories when I passed by certain assorted candies or a specific brand of ramen noodles. I only left with a bag of Hi-Chew candy, which are the most amazingly flavorful chewy Asian candy similar to Starburst but with more advanced flavors of sorts. I also couldn't resist getting my nephew a bag of their Naruto Konpeito Sugar Candy that looked like giant sized pop rock candies colored in blue with the Naruto character plastered over the front. It is always fun, nostalgic, and appetizing to come to Mistuwa because you know you are always leaving with great fresh Japanese foods or some sort of delectable treat. read more

My local Mitsuwa! I wish it was a bit closer to my home but love it regardless. It's a tiny little shop but they have almost everything you can think of. I love their cooked foods section and I know my family loves their produce. I wish they had more snacks but that's alright. Love that they're just down the street from Yama. The Mitsuwa parking lot is small but I've never had an issue with finding spots. There's also lots of free street parking all around. People here are pretty friendly - most of the workers speak Japanese. You can even find a good amount of Japanese beauty products and kitchen gadgets here. read more

All of which was good, but again, I was starving so everything tasted better. :) Atmosphere - Very small and old Japanese supermarket. Maybe I had too high expectations due to my daughter's recommendation. Either way, I would have been disappointed. Plenty of parking. Security at the door to watch and protect. Shopping in San Gabriel, California... My friend, Mikey, didn't know what arare (mochi crunch) was. Trying to describe it is too challenging. Why not just have him taste this savory Japanese rice cracker? Yes... I could have brought arare from home. We have Mitsuwa Marketplace in Honolulu. I just thought that arare is a common snack. I found out after I had left Hawaii that Mikey hadn't experienced mochi crunch! Anyway... I searched for Mitsuwa Marketplace in LA and found this location at the corner of Rosemont Boulevard and Las Tunas Drive. There's free parking behind the store. The interior is clean and neat! I found arare (and the regular fresh produce, frozen foods, refrigerated items, Asian cooking ingredients, noodles, tea, seaweed, etc.) easily! Service was efficient and pleasant. I was done in no time! I got a variety of arare, a Hello Kitty snack, and some munchies to eat later on! Hee hee! read more

Mitsuwa is a small Japanese market located on the west side of SGV. It is pretty small (almost like a convenient store), but it offers the basics. There is a small produce section as well, but prices tend to be higher than the typical Asian market nearby. There is a ready to eat section as well, a limited snack section and freezer section. Overall, it has the basics but not the a wide selection. I would come here only if I was limited on time. read more

I don't like giving bad reviews but this mitsuwa has raised their prices heavily and the quality looks significantly worse compared to other Japanese markets. I've been to the one in Costa Mesa and Irvine, both are clean and affordable with huge variety. This one isn't how I remember it as a kid, it's small and cluttered and unclean. I'm so disappointed with how the management has treated this place. It's no longer the nostalgic Japanese store I once remembered. We were excited to go here after finding it on Yelp because we were in town. The parking lot is limited and the time we arrived in the middle of the day on a weekend, we were lucky to find a spot. I was looking forward to pick-up some bento box meals or something quick to feed our family like the other Mitsuwa at a different location. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, almost all the meals were gone and there was very few selections to pick from. My family opted to go somewhere else to get something to eat on the go. The market appeared to have what I normally buy, but we weren't here for that, we wanted premade food to go. We just picked up a few drinks and checked out. The employee at the checkout was friendly. This is one of the smaller locations, but also the closest Japanese market in the area. Of course their options are on the pricey side, but compared to going out to eat Javanese food, it's really nothing. Whenever I want to stay home and still crave for some Japanese food, then I will come here and do a quick grab of either pre-prepped or pre-cooked items. Security doesn't even let you put your groceries on the counter when previous person is checking out. Kind of ridiculous. It would be faster if second in line can start putting things down. First time here... my first thought at first sight, what the h*ck? What happened to this Mitsuwa in San Gabriel? It's a tiny little thing compared to the other Mitsuwa in Torrance, Costa Mesa, and Irvine. There are no restaurants or shops within this marketplace. I was so looking forward to J.sweets that sells delicious mochi or a specialty ramen place like Hokkaido Ramen Santouka... NADA! So disappointed! They do have frozen mochi in the freezer and pre-packaged sushi in the back of store, but it's not the same as the real deal. Oh well, we just ended up getting some snacks. The store was clean and organized. Staff was okay. Selections of products were limited depending on what you're looking for. Prices are average. I guess this Mitsuwa in San Gabriel Valley area is better than nothing. Anyway, I'll have to drive further south to get my desired goods LOL. It's a good thing I like to drive. I've been to the Irvine, Costa Mesa, Torrance, and Los Angeles locations and they all have food courts and a huge selection of groceries/food to choose from. They also have other stores inside such as Daiso. This was my first time at the San Gabriel location and I was really surprised by how small it was. We wanted to buy fresh sashimi to make sushi at home but they didn't have much of a selection and there's no food court either. It's a super tiny market and looks a little bit run down. read more

Decided to check this location out since it had less traffic to get to and took about the same time to get to this one compared to other locations. They're all so far from us but we like to visit this market every now and then for their snacks and bento boxes. We drove out here and it was not what we expected. Location was fine but it is the tiniest Mitsuwa we have ever been to! They don't have a food court section, no Kinokuniya bookstore, no cafe/bakery, they still had the bentos luckily but it was just like a regular grocery store and super tiny! We still managed to get what we wanted out of this market but probably won't be going to this location again. It's too out of our way and just tiny for our liking. We like to shop but also grab food at the food court after and check out the bookstore. Lots more to do at the other locations but as for just a quick bento pick-me-up or regular grocery needs, this is fine. Was really happy to find/try the instant boba for the first time which is decent for emergency boba! The inari and tamago were also absolutely delicious. They have a system to get in line for check out so you can't just walk up to any register which is fine. It's organized that way and the cashiers really tell the customers to get in line if they try to sneak into the checkout. Definitely glad for that so we don't get people cutting! Came here 40 minutes before closing and they were pretty emptied out on the premade food, I pretty much took whatever was left. The good news though was they do come with a discount near closing, I think everything was a dollar off. This mitsuwa is certainly a smaller one compared to others.
