First time at Mitsuwa, I ended up coming out of here spending about $170!!! Don't bring your kids lol. They have a variety of options including cute accessories. I have seen post here of their sushi but I came to late in the day to be able to barely got a decent roll. Not sure how long it had been sitting there for the day. The roll was good, nothing extravagant. I bought few extra toppings to give it a bit of crunch and flavor. I really enjoyed the matcha cake. It included jello in the center which was probably my favorite thing! I will probably visit again early in the day to try out their sushi again! There was one employee in the front. The store was a bit awkwardly quiet inside. Cashier didn't really make eye contact but I smiled anyway and said thank you

How thoughtful that they had ice available to help keep their customers' frozen purchases chilled for the ride home! I found out later that this was a norm (a smart norm!) in the Asian markets in LA.

I was on a mission to learn how to make miso soup. So I stopped in to pick up all the ingredients. I also picked up some udon noodles that were on sale. There was a lil line but when the second cashier opened up it moved rather quickly. The service was very personal, she helped me with all of my questions. This is my second visit in two weeks.

This was my first time visiting the San Gabriel Mitsuwa. It's a smaller location compared to some of the others, so the selection isn't as extensive, but you can still find a wide variety of products. The store is clean, and the staff is attentive, I did find the price to be higher in some products compare to other Mitsuwa locations.

People work here are amazing! Place is little bit small compare to other locations but they have amazing selection of shochu!

I love the store. It offers so many unique food, and snack options! Whenever I don't know what to make for lunch, I go grab a spicy tuna Mayo ball and some jasmin green tea. They recently renovated and upgraded some aesthetics of the place so it seems a lot nicer too. This place is always busy but they always have plenty of cashiers so wait is not long.

This may look like a regular ethnic supermarket on the outside, but on the inside, it's a gold mine for some of my favorite snacks. If you love Japanese style lunch items like onigiri, prepackaged sushi, and Japanese style egg sandwiches, then you are going to love this place. Today I personally went for the $6.99 eel and rice plate, which was delicious and tasted reasonably fresh . Also, everyone there is incredibly polite.

My daughter raved about this place! Unfortunately, she meant the other one on the other side of town... Quality/Quantity - Limited selection, maybe we came too early...? We did just fly 15 hours back into the country and needed some "comfort" food. Got a sushi plate; onigiri and a teriyaki chicken bowl for the rice. All of which was good, but again, I was starving so everything tasted better. :) Atmosphere - Very small and old Japanese supermarket. Maybe I had too high expectations due to my daughter's recommendation. Either way, I would have been disappointed. Plenty of parking. Security at the door to watch and protect. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 8pm. Service - Good. See my noodles warning picture, is this a new thing? Should I be worried? Price - $27ish. Above average for cold/refrigerated supermarket food. But way more convenient than buying "takeaway" (Australian term), I mean "to-go" from a restaurant. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1998 and your 11 locations. We are still loyal customers at your San Jose, CA location. We also like visiting your location in HI when we are in town.

Shopping in San Gabriel, California... My friend, Mikey, didn't know what arare (mochi crunch) was. Trying to describe it is too challenging. Why not just have him taste this savory Japanese rice cracker? Yes... I could have brought arare from home. We have Mitsuwa Marketplace in Honolulu. I just thought that arare is a common snack. I found out after I had left Hawaii that Mikey hadn't experienced mochi crunch! Anyway... I searched for Mitsuwa Marketplace in LA and found this location at the corner of Rosemont Boulevard and Las Tunas Drive. There's free parking behind the store. The interior is clean and neat! I found arare (and the regular fresh produce, frozen foods, refrigerated items, Asian cooking ingredients, noodles, tea, seaweed, etc.) easily! Service was efficient and pleasant. I was done in no time! I got a variety of arare, a Hello Kitty snack, and some munchies to eat later on! Hee hee!

My friend and I shared the following dishes: -Carlos Jewel Box: My favorite dish here. I just loved the variety. Sashimi and fried seafood on a bed of fluffy and seasoned rice. Also a nice umami kick from the ikura. The sashimi was tasty and standard, but I really enjoyed the fried seafood bites. The tempura batter was great and the seafood was nice and plump. -Tendon Combo with Cold Udon: Same notes for the tempura here, the batter was great and the tempura here is on another level. I also liked the half boiled egg and breaking the yolk into the rice, so delicious! The cold udon dipping noodles were also tasty and refreshing. Great for hot weather. I enjoyed the texture of the noodles. The value of each set was pretty good for what it was and the food was good quality. This restaurant is located in a cute alleyway with good outdoor ambiance. They didn't have enough room for our party inside so we did have to sit outside which wasn't great in the warm weather. I'm glad I got to try it, as I've been waiting for months for the opportunity- as I also consider myself a lover of tempura and deep fried foods- but this didn't wow me as much as hoped a tempura place would. Maybe their batter isn't something I'm 100% into, and maybe hype played into it, but I'm not 100 % on the Carlos train yet. The beef tongue was thick and flavorful, and I especially liked the scallion kosho because it balanced out some of the richness. The ribeye, short rib, and chuck were beautifully marbled, and the fresh wasabi was a nice touch that complemented the meat well instead of overpowering it. We also ordered the bone marrow rice on the side and I'm glad we did. It was rich, packed with flavor, and had chunks of meat mixed throughout. First off, the takoyaki octopus balls were full of flavor. I feel that this place does them really well. You don't feel overwhelmed by any seafood tastes and instead, you get well balanced flavor throughout every bite with the combination of the ball itself, the sauces and the flakes on top. Next is the omurice. The egg is cooked to perfection and tastes absolutely amazing. The curry, however, which was recommended by the waiter over the Demi glaze, tasted exactly like the Vermont curry cube you get in the grocery store, so I'm not sure why he recommended that over the Demi glaze. The fried rice within the omurice was alright too. Originally, I wanted to get the tonkatsu omurice but got it on the side as the choice wasn't available for the lunch menu. I would suggest doing without the tonkatsu because it was dry and there's a million and one places that can do tonkatsu better than this place. Honestly, I wish I had the opportunity to cut the omurice myself and choose how much curry I put on it, but the staff did that instead, which I guess made for a good video, but took away from my innate desires to cut the egg on my own haha. Next, the ramen tasted pretty basic like what you could get at any ramen shop. For the chicken wings, I've never had chicken wings in this flavor. They were really really good and I would definitely recommend the wings. For the desserts, I enjoyed both the matcha and the snow globe. I'm not sure what I enjoyed more, however. The snow globe is a gelatin and it doesn't really have too much flavor until you get to the parts with the flower. Plus the little clear balls have a nice flavor and texture. For the matcha, it has an interesting texture and then an interestingly light, yet deep matcha flavor. Oh the drinks. The Thai tea tastes exactly like how it does everywhere else. The amazing lemonade is a lemonade with a few slight modifications, like with cucumber and maybe some other things as well. For the service, it's pretty good here. Everyone is pretty attentive. There are three things at the table, such as cayenne pepper and two other bowls you can add to your dishes to add flavor. I forgot the name of the one I liked but it looked kind of like pork floss or loose tea, and that one had a lot of flavor. I think what's most appealing about this place is the ambiance because you can like sit in a honeycomb, there's fancy designs everywhere and you feel like you're in a different place. I think it's a good restaurant but it's kind of weird how some things here are amazing and some are just okay.
