Ube, pandan, mango donuts. To die for!! (6.29.25)
Carroll N.

6.29.25 I got together with my two besties for a potluck lunch at one of their houses. One of my friends bought donuts (ube, pandan, and mangos). They are to die for my two favorite flavors were the ube and pandan. They were not overly sweet and the donuts would've been delicious on its own without any filling. These donuts were easily in my top five favorites of all times. Highly recommend.

Hot Ube Latte coffee, ube bun, and a good book from a local author!

2026 - still one of my fave places to enjoy Filipino treats! Friendly service always and beautiful spot.

These were amazing

I just had the most captivating person make the best matcha latte I have ever had! This person was very knowledgeable because the other person (who was also super friendly btw) kept asking her questions. The filled donuts were also a star here! But that matcha is worth the drive from DC just to have that person make me another one! Great hiring at this shop!

Ube and pistachio doughnut

I have been wanting to try Gwenie's and finally made it last week. They have a few tables. A cute little establishment. The staff was helpful with explaining the different items. We ended up with ube doughnut, pistachio doughnut, and biko. All were delicious. I will definitely be back (but maybe the Rockville location.)

Went to At Home in Frederick and I realized Gwenies is close to there! When I googled the distance and found out it was walkable I went straight there. It was about 20mins to close and I was not able to see the bakery at its full potential because a lot of the items were gone. I love Hopia and i wanted to get their ube hopia because I have bought it in the past and it's so good! But I got the Ube pie and that was chefs kiss! The Sapin Sapin was good too! Prices are kind of high but honestly I'm use to it when it comes to Filipino bakeries. It's worth it to me haha. I can make Ube cake at home so I usually go for the items that I can't make or I know takes a long time to make. I can't wait to come back here. Their Siapao is ok too. The filling is not a lot but it's not bad. Customer service was good here too!

Soooo good! If you like Ube, this is like Ube heaven. Great decore, friendly greeting. Best halo halo in the area. I highly recommend.

Solid 4.5 I love everything about this cute little bakery called Gwenie's. I've been there twice now and have had excellent service. The nice ladies running the counter gave me their recommendations too I've tried the iced matcha latte and got a tiramisu latte today and both were outstanding. No more expensive than Starbucks too. YOU HAVE TO TRY THE NUTELLA DOUGHNUT. Soft pillowy goodness with the decadent nutella. A brioche doughnut is truly a treat. We also tried the pandan doughnut which was good but not my fav. The ube bun however was a real treat. You really can't go wrong with their selection. I appreciate the variety of flavors and options they have. Can't wait to go back and try more . My new fav place!

Heard some hype about this place on social media, so had to give it a try. I've been here about 3 times now, and I can say that it's a really cute, nice and clean spot. The food and drinks are great. I LOVE the BLT and the Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwiches. The store made bread is soooooo tasty. I also really enjoy the iced pandan latte. I knocked off 2 stars because I feel that they still haven't worked out kinks to provide fast and efficient service. Each time I've been, I've had to wait soooo long for my order. And this is even on non busy times, it literally just takes them so long to pump out the food and drinks. Lucky for me, I work from home, so I'm usually not in a rush to get in and out, but I for someone who's looking to grab something and quickly head to work, this place is probably gonna hold you up a bit. I also noticed that they still have quite a few menu items in "coming soon" status and that's pretty disappointing, as it's been a while. But I guess they're probably working on productivity with the current menu items, before adding more stuff, so that's understandable. All and all, I feel like I'll be giving this place more tries because those sandwiches and that pandan latte is just unmatched, but I do hope to see some improvement.

Great place to stop for a different kind of quick snack or breakfast. We tried the sweet and cheese breads and the savory pastries stuffed with pork and chicken, and Cappuccino. My favorites were the sweet ones. The staff was attentive. The space is nicely decorated and inviting with plenty of free parking. I liked how the food is displayed. Everything looked appetizing.

We have been wanting to try UBE desserts for a while now and found Gwenie's in Frederick. When you first walk in, you are greeted with the wonderful smell of all things sweet! When I tell you that you are missing out if you haven't gone there, please believe it! The donuts were fresh, delicious, and full of flavor. We got an UBE and a Nutella donut and they were both fantastic! The service is fast, friendly, and patient. We will frequent this place more often! It is highly recommended to give it a try!!

Ube Cream Matcha

A cute cafe spot with asian dessert flavors! The ambiance is chill and cozy, with limited seating but it's a great spot to study or work from (has wifi). Service is great nothing to complain about. Only got the ube cream matcha which is so good, good quality matcha just look at the color. On the sweeter side for me though but that's a personal preference thing. I'd def come back and try the pastries.

Ube iced latte with oat milk 10/10

Ligaya's is a sleeper spot for tasty Filipino food in Wheaton. I think it is underrated and…read moredifficult to see from the street. I came here with a friend whose parents are from the Philippines to sample the halo-halo. The employee was helpful and gave me an overview of all the dishes they had on offer that day. We started out with some pork lumpia, which were crispy and delightful. I had never tried dinuguan, but was pleased to discover this pork delicacy with tender meat and a rich sauce. The pancit was another highlight. We took home a box of buko pandan for dessert. Yum! The atmosphere is comfortably casual with tables and chairs near a counter with trays of ready to eat food. There are packaged imported goods for sale at the edge of the dining area.

Ligaya offers a special of 2 entrees and a side for about $13. I'll say that the amount of food that they give probably is enough for two meals. If you are starving, Ligaya's is the place to be. The restaurant has plenty of varieties of dishes that you can try out. To be perfectly honest, it was hard for me to settle on my two entrees, but I went with the Chicken Adobo and some pork thingy (apologies for not remembering the name). While it's about a 7 minute wait, I appreciate that they freshly fry the lumpia for each order rather than frying a batch and leaving it out for hours. Tip: If you know that you are going to be in a rush, you should pre order your food. While most folks tend to do take out orders, Ligaya's does have a few small tables if you would like to dine in. Since this is the only Filipino spot that I've visited in this area, I thought the prices were pretty good compared to other local lunch take-out places. The only downside (which is not Ligaya's fault, IMO): Ligaya's is in a busy shopping center so parking can be a bit limiting...like most places in this area.

I will say prepare a budget cause there's a lot to get, I ended up spending around $40 for everything I got. Let's start with the beef lumpia. It was crispy and tasted pretty good. I'm a sucker for spice so I would've loved it to be a little spicier or maybe offer some chili oil on the side. Next is the star of the show, the lechon kawaii bowl. The pork is so tender and perfectly crispy! I added garlic rice instead of the usual which was a great addition. I asked to try their vinegar sauce which comes with garlic and jalapeño in it which I found to be amazing. Lastly, the taro milk tea is heavenly, I'm still thinking about it!!! The service was friendly and because it was my first time they even offered me a coupon for the next time I come back and I will definitely be back! BEST CHICKEN ADOBO EVER: If you're looking for authentic Filipino flavors that hit all the right…read morenotes--savory, tangy, and perfectly balanced--this is the place to go. The chicken adobo here is tender, fall-off-the-bone perfection, but the real star is the sauce. It's the most flavorful adobo sauce I've ever had--rich, garlicky, with just the right balance of soy sauce and vinegar, plus a slight sweetness that I absolutely loved. You'll be craving it long after your meal, and trust me, it will bring you back for more. But that's not all! We also tried their Shrimp Kalabasa, and it was just as incredible. The shrimp were plump and juicy, the kalabasa (pumpkin) was soft and naturally sweet, and the green beans added the perfect crunch. The sauce tied everything together beautifully, making every bite comforting and satisfying. Despite the humble appearance of this restaurant in the Food Court, the chef here is top-rate--every dish is packed with bold, authentic flavors that stand out. Service was warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. Next time, I'm definitely trying their sisig--if it's anything like the dishes I had, I already know it's going to be amazing!
