I make it a point to come here every time I'm visiting home. Truly the best dive bar vibes and a view you can't beat

Beer is great, but if you are feeling fancy this Bloody Mary does not disappoint. Come relax with like-minded folk. ‍

Just what I wanted. A Bloody Mary and view of lake Kitaniity. Bring cash. Enjoy good people ‍

I'm a first timer here and stopped in on a whim as i was driving past. Initial impression was a total dive bar. Walked in right at 11am, the inside was clean and very rustic. Had nice AC though. Outside seating is plentiful and well kept. They have some very cool fire pits available. The lake views are absolutely incredible! Ordered a burger, fries and mushrooms. The burger was cooked perfectly to a medium (some pink on inside). Fries were exactly what i would expect, hot and crunchy. The mushrooms were amazing! Love the horseradish sauce they were served with. I actually added some to my burger I definitely recommend this place! Woman owned and operated too!

Came here on a Monday with three friends. On Saturday, we stopped at Log Tavern brewery heading to Lake Wallenpaupack to celebrate a milestone birthday of a friend of ours who actually sells forklifts for a living. Log Tavern was a good find too, and you should also go there. But anyhow we had a super cute dog with us and so a woman came over and told us how cute he was, and how smart Australian Shepherds are. It was clear she had great taste, and she mentioned that she tended bar nearby. We went on to our lake rental and met our other friends. It was a fun weekend! The birthday boy wanted to rent pontoon boats and so we begrudgingly agreed even though the forecast was menacing to say the least. We managed to avoid the t storms and enjoyed a frigid dip and sunshine out in the lake. After cookouts, a sing-along with acoustic guitar and an 11 month old, deep fried Cornish hens, and plenty of late nights, it was time to go home. Monday morning we went for a last hike and it was the perfect amount of exertion. On our way out of town we stopped at Gyp's. The reviews seems like just what we were looking for. The owner wiped the most recent downpour off a patio table for us, we grabbed amazing tacos from the truck out front (food trucks on mondays), took our beer and cider out by the lake and later fed the fish. The woman with great taste was our bartender. Goodbye, Poconos!

Gyp's is one of those local watering holes that just happen to be "in" Stokes State Forrest! They have a wide range of alcoholic beverages including the seasonal pumpkin cider on tap that was refreshing! There is is also a bar menu with some classic choices and highlights that included on my visit Chili and Goulash. I am a vegetarian, so I didn't get those, but had a bag of Aunt Vickie's crips( potato chips) with my cider. As they say, "location, location, location" is a big pull, and the best part of Gyp's is walking around the back where you can prop yourself up at the edge of the South Kittatinny Lake!!! Perfect!!

Went to Gyps after a long ride with my husband on the bike. We haven't been here in a long time " What a treat !!! We met the new owner Andie (What a nice lady) engaging and sweet . Great atmosphere, they changed the set up in the back (much cleaner ) more chairs to sit in and a covered patio (they no longer have the dock) two hearty thumbs up

Great stop, beautiful lake front views, and yummy food! Cash only so head up but reasonably priced burgers, fries and bratwurst. They have a full bar and even ciders on tap. During covid the are not seating inside but the back area is full of tables, Adirondack chairs, and fire pits.

I've passed this place a 1000 times. I dropped in over the weekend and of course because of COVID, there was no seating at the bar, I didn't see anyone eating so I don't know if they are doing food but I had an ice cold beer and an amazing view of the lake. I can't wait to visit this place in the summertime

I bookmarked this awesome spot after reading about it on NJ.com. So happy we made the journey and so sad it is this far away. I totally want to hike nearby more often so we can come back! Loved the view of the lake and the relaxed atmosphere here. On our visit there were three Appalachian Trail hikers at the bar. Note to those hikers, leave your pack out back, come in and order your beer and connect to the free WiFi. We both had a Fat Tire draft and settled into an Adirondack chair along the lake. We watched some fish do what fish do and relaxed. We did have a grilled cheese which was good but took forever to come out. Seems like Gyp's ran out of bread, no biggie as we had it on a burger roll instead like at Jack Brown's Beer and Burger Joint in Roanoke, VA. We loved it! The husband had to drag me out and $20 for 4 drafts and 2 grilled cheeses makes this place amazing! Can't wait to return!

***1 1/2 stars***…read more It's pretty rare for me to go below two stars, but we literally couldn't find any redeeming qualities other than a kid-friendly chalkboard off to the side. Rough, rough lunch and I'm picking the places going forward. I came here with my top-tier chum and #1 honorary young pup chum for a midday meal yesterday. This was an unfortunate recommendation by my chum, but in her defense, the biggest selling point was that they had a young pup section of the menu (which many of my suggestions didn't). This may have been a sign that it's time for the young pup to just order off adult menus going forward. This is probably a weird time of year to be over here anyway; this restaurant recently moved next to the baseball stadium, and December just isn't the greatest page on the calendar for America's pastime so it feels a little wasteland-ish right now. There were also a few random amusement park rides that we had to walk around to access the entrance (apparently more for a nighttime winter festival of sorts?) so the vibes were a little off to start. The interior was fine though - there's an interesting looking bar off to the left and high ceilings, so it feels more spacious than it actually is, given the overall square footage you're dealing with. I also enjoyed the cow decor, though I might be missing the joke with some of the cow/pig hybrid animals on display. My chum remarked that it seemed like the menu was designed by someone who'd never actually tasted the food, and certainly wasn't the same person who cooked it. Definitely a possibility, but my general impression was that this is ostensibly a family restaurant (remember the chalkboard?) with a menu only targeting young female adults, from the bar food to the cocktails. It's very strange. I wish there was a nicer way to say it, but the cocktails were terrible. I had their version of an Old Fashioned, which had coffee in it. Just did not go well together at all; there's a reason why Irish coffee with Bailey's was invented - not every dark spirit is going to work with coffee. I find it hard to believe this was taste-tested before being added to the menu. Never again. I felt worse for my chum though, who got a holiday twist on a margarita with cranberry. It was so beyond tart I could barely swallow it and it honestly tasted like cough medicine. In a quasi-NSFW comment, my chum mentioned that this drink might be helpful for a UTI, but alas, we were at a restaurant, not a pharmacy. At the very least, they need to retrain their bartenders on basic portions of a cocktail, but when the ingredients clash, that's a management issue. We got the Cow Wedgies to share as an app - basically, flattened mozzy sticks. I like the flattened concept but these were pretty bad. I'm assuming the issue here is they were in the deep fryer for too long because they had pockets of grease that would pop when you bit into them, almost like a pimple. One of those pockets exploded and stained the front of my hoodie. Not great - an unappetizing appetizer. The impression I got was that The Barnyard were pretty aggressively touting the chicken/waffles section of the menu. I went with the Winner Winner, which was another example of not understanding basic palates and taste profiles. This is a savory item - it has chicken, mashed potatoes and this gravy/corn concoction. Inexplicably, they then added this weird tangy sauce that would be better served on a bang bang shrimp app that completely ruined the dish. It's such an unforced error I don't understand how it happened. It's going to come as no surprise, but the service matched the overall quality of the meal. There were very few customers on the premises and yet our waitress was mostly MIA. She never came by to check on us after serving the food, despite making multiple trips to a table near us to inefficiently clear it practically one item at a time. It's very hard to give constructive feedback when an experience is this bad, but to me it starts at the very beginning - make sure the items on your menu taste good and that your staff is properly trained on basic hospitality concepts. The Kingdom of Sussex deserves a lot better than this.

Here is what I have learned about this building: Built in 1883, it is the second-oldest continuously operating business in the county. Hainesville holds the second-coldest temperature in New Jersey and Sussex County, at -32° F. Like you'll find in small Vermont towns, this is a local place that has a little bit of everything on the shelves and behind the counters. It is truly a general store in the big box era. Like you'll find in small Vermont towns, everyone in this building is wonderful to talk to, including everyone behind the counter (young and old) and anyone who walks in. This is clearly locals serving locals, and it survives on this community spirit. It also survives on the delicious food they serve. I ordered up a custom melt and my companion had one of their menu lunch items. We agreed that the deli is generous with ingredients, the food was delicious, and fresh-cooked. One of the best hidden gems NJ has to offer. Don't miss Hainesville next time you're up this way for any reason. High Point. Mahwah. Catskills.
