What a wonderful restaurant to celebrate a friend's bday. Upstairs - open air- view of the beautiful sky on a mild summer night? This is the spot. I won't say the in and out isn't complicated. It's almost like a wee city once you turn off Peachtree. Lyft-ing was a good option to avoid the parking below or going the wrong way on a one way like the gentleman our driver almost ran into who did not realize he needed to back up- even though security was trying to tell him. We waited by the outside bar for everyone to arrive. Nice seating area, full but not painfully so, and managed to snag a seat. We had a table outside - in the shade with a nice breeze. Tapas are the thing. Small plates and don't forget to order more than one. We had paella- touted as a bigger dish but still not big. Everyone shared- cocktails were yummy. The wait staff were excellent and we had churros and champagne for friends bday- including a brilliant sparkler that was difficult to get a photo of. I really enjoyed Gypsy Kitchen. The ambiance was very nice. The food portions are extremely small, albeit delicious. so I wouldn't recommend coming here without eating first but it's definitely a good place for drinks. Also, the music is very loud so if you want an intimate night where you can actually hear the person you're with, I wouldn't recommend going there either. We arrived 10 minutes before happy hour ended and had a million questions about literally everything on the menu. Our server was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and just all-around cool. We were able to take advantage of some of the happy hour specials. Four dollar bubbly, four dollar tapas. Ended up trying half the menu anyway. Almost everything was good. The mushrooms were the flop. The churros were my favorite. The menu said they'd come with caramel but they were out and served it with chocolate instead. Thankfully, the churros were excellent without a sauce. Another fave -- the brussel sprouts. They were tender, too. Reminiscent of cabbage in flavor. The portion was larger than a typical tapas spot, so I could really appreciate that. It's very dark in this restaurant, AND in its bathroom. We had drinks with a group of friends last night and it was a bit of a disappointment. We had dinner across the street at le Colonial (great spot!) and decided we didn't want to end the evening yet, so walked across to have a couple drinks. We walked to the outside area to see availability and it was mostly empty and there were heat lamps available (great!). There was a big sign that said please see host to be seated outside, so we walked back to the front and checked in with the two ladies at the front. They were nice, but said disregard the sign and please check in with staff near the sign for seats, so we walked back and did so, but the gentlemen there said we need to speak to the desk for a seat - told him what they said, so he said unless we are having dinner, we can't sit on the patio... I do understand the rules, but did ask politely would it be ok for seven of us to have a table at the patio anyway being it is almost empty? I said that will be at least 14 drinks and it was 10pm, so not likely to have many more additions outside... he said, sorry no. He did show us to two couches that are just outside the patio which we decided we would try - no service there, we had to go to the bar ourselves which was totally fine. Couches were a bit dark, but we asked a very nice staff member to light the heat lamp for us (he was awesome and I apologize I didn't ask his name) and we covered the outside speaker with about six pillows being it is next to the couch and was at volume 100 (same staff did ask someone else about lowering the volume a bit, but was told it was for everyone outside (literally the other six people at the patio). Sorry for the long review: - looks great and has a chic feel for drinks - check-in was a bit confused sign says one thing, desk says disregard, staff lead in section says go back to desk - we did get sorted and got a couch and made our own good time - understand about the need for food outside, but being so empty, not sure why they were willing to turn away a larger party who were committing to a $300 (or more) bill. However, they got our money anyway, so I guess they know what they are doing. - bartenders were a bit indifferent, but that seems to be the case for much of Buckhead. When you find a great bartender (and there are several in Buckhead) please tip them well! We will skip next time and try another of the other nearby spots. I would recommend you try for a drink, but if you feel a weird vibe or service isn't in line with pricing, there are several other options within a quick walk. read more

My husband and I had never been here before and decided to give it a chance. Oversold and under delivered. We booked weeks ahead of time for Valentine's Day, and we had to wait two hours for dinner. I booked an 8:30pm reservation, and we weren't served food until 10:30pm. We never even received a text that our table was ready, and this was after I went up the hostess. I feel like someone majorly dropped the ball in their reservations department. Everyone we talked to was booked for around the same time as we were and no one had a table for at least an hour or more. When we did finally get a table, the food we ordered came cold. It was insulting that we ordered an expensive lobster paella, and the guy had the nerve to carry the dish with an oven mitt like it was super hot. The pot the paella came in was cold and you could immediately touch it with your hands! The dish had definitely been sitting out for some time, and they didn't even put in the effort to heat it back up. I felt bad for our sweet waitress who was doing everything she could to make our meal better. It was such a letdown for how they handled everything. I get things happen, but let people know before they spend time and money to wait around for a meal. Having a subpar kitchen and reservations system is unacceptable for a desirable city location. Gypsy kitchen is great for so many occasions! Group dining, a date, or finding new love. This place has a huge patio for outdoor dining as well as ample space inside. It does get busy so if you want to sit down it's best to make a reservation. They also have happy hour from 4-6 with most wine at $6. Their wine and sangria are delicious as well! Especially for red wine drinkers. I recommend the duck al pastador as well as the potatas bravas. The chickpea pancake is also delicious. read more

I went to Gypsy kitchen Friday around 445. They open for dinner around five so I grabbed a drink at the bar and sat outside (hanging out til I got food). First, the restaurant and the space it has is absolutely beautiful. I would definitely come here for the ambience. It's located in high-end shopping area in Buckhead. There's street parking (meter), garage parking (about $5) and valet parking (ranging from $5 up depending upon the day and the time you're there). There's tons of high-end shopping there and across the street there's lots more restaurants that are also expensive. I would say given the choice of restaurants in that area I would probably pick somewhere else to eat. I would come here to hang out for drinks and the ambience. I got a glass of Riesling, spring salad and patatas bravas. That ran me about $30-$32. The drink was as expected. The potatoes were not that good, lacking flavor. I've been to Spain but I've also been to other restaurants in the US that serve this and this was my least favorite.The spring salad was supposed to have ham and cheese and candied pistachios, which it did but it in very small quantities. For the price, I expected better. The service was OK but not great. They had me open a tab outside (I guess the outside bar area) and I closed out the tab right away and got the bill before I even got the food (not used to that). I think I expected better or different. They do have more food options and maybe there's other food that is better than what I ate. It's a tapas style bar but they do have entrées. Again, it's an average place and I would go here for the ambience and some drinks outside. It's beautiful and well decorated. I would not come here for the food. I'm a self-professed foodholic, and this place continues to feed my obsession. When it comes to tapas plates, Gypsy Kitchen boasts some of the best selections, from the Grilled Spanish Octopus to the Moroccan Spiced Lamb Skewer to the Patatas Bravas and that delicious savory tomato sauce served with it. Whenever friends come to visit Atlanta, I bring them to Gypsy Kitchen for the verve and brightness. My friend and I always choose GK as our "girls night/date night" spot because our energy feels matched by the atmosphere and welcoming nature from everyone at GK. If you're looking for incredible food, whether it's classic patatas bravas to seasonal lamb skewers, you'll be satisfied you tried this iconic tapas spot. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants, but the new management is unprofessional and rude. I went for my birthday lunch (with reservation) and had to wait over 40 minutes. The place was nearly empty. When we were seated outside, the hostess told us if we wanted a different table to ask the server. It started to rain, so we asked to move under an umbrella, the manager came out and aggressively asked what the problem was. We explained that his employee told us to ask and he kept cutting us off while talking and he said "we're not doing the whole switching tables thing you can sit inside" He also lied and said everyone was moving inside. Our server was visibly uncomfortable by his behavior and apologized when he walked away. by that time my appetite was ruined and I wanted to bring my business somewhere else, especially to celebrate a birthday. As a manager, it's your job to make the customer comfortable and want to do business with you. Honestly, it felt like we weren't wanted there. In addition, the food and experience isn't what it used to be. I would not recommend this place anymore. read more

I have mixed feeling about the restaurant. First, the positives: great location, beautiful decor, and good service (but the servers can be inattentive at times). The food, however, is generally underwhelming. Our favorite dish was the scallops - ultra fresh and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Other dishes that we like (enjoyable, but nothing special) are the crimini mushrooms, patata bravas, and merguez montadito. Dishes that we think are average or below are the medjool dates (ham is overcooked) and gypsy fried chicken (too much batter, too little chicken. Although the red dipping sauce is heavenly). Dishes that we think are failure are the duck al pastor (dry, flavorless duck in store-bought flour tortilla) and the vegetable paella. While I realize that Atlanta in July is hot, muggy, and full-o-bugs, there must be something you can do to make your employees weather the discomfort while dispensing customer service. She said she was hot, sticky, and uncomfortable. Having worked in a restaurant through college, I empathized with her plight. It is this honesty that earned her the tip. Oh my this place is great one the outside and had all the bells and whistles, but problem number 1.They don't respect reservations and that's a no no in dining for me, if I make reservations for a special occasion I expect to be served at our around that time, Not a hour or more later and not be compensated smh. 2. Was out outside without a option for inside seating until I told them it was just too cold and they only had 2 warmers working on their patio which was unacceptable. 3. The kitchen must of been rushing that night or they didn't want to cook my food was horrible, chicken thigh pieces for gypsy fried chicken were so dry and the lamb lacked the flavor I expected from the description, and my paella wasn't fair to say the lease. The bone in ribeye was great that saved the day. My waitress was amazing she was attentive and helpful but I didn't have any of the tapas taken off the bill I paid my bill and tipped the great waitress. But I didn't enjoy my experience . The Grilled Spanish Octopus looked beautiful and had ok flavor but came out room temperature and over cooked. The tuna tartar had too much going on and ironically didn't taste like anything. The Patatas Bravas we're good but let's be honest- can you mess up fried potatoes? The Chickpea Pancake was interesting. I personally enjoyed them but my bf could not disagree more. I love love loveee tapas and Spanish cuisine. Unfortunately, it's hard to come by. My family and I were very happy with the food we had at Gypsy Kitchen. We ordered over half of the tapas menu they served and loved all the dishes! From the lamb chops and steak to the Patatas Bravas and hummus you can't go wrong here! I love patatas bravas-- one of my favorite foods I had in Spain. Many bravas in the US don't live up to the hype of those in Spain but I really thought these did! They were quite spicy but tolerable and had lots of flavor. I liked the scallops dish and the lamb was cooked perfectly. The seasonings all around we're fantastic. The steak tapa was great as well, I liked the chimichurri on top. The hummus, this tied for my favorite tapa with the patatas bravas. We liked it so much we ended up ordering a second! The brussels sprouts were fantastic, I loved the seasoning there too. After that, we had some chicken croquetas which I thought tasted great. They were perfectly fried and crispy, but melt in your mouth after the first bite. Overall, we really enjoyed this restaurant and next time we're in Atlanta we'll be sure to stop back! read more

Came for dinner on a Thursday night - it was obviously a little too cold for the patio, but I heard their patio is really nice! We made a reservation and had no trouble with being seated when we arrived. Keep in mind this is a tapas place, so many of the dishes are small and shareable plates! What we ordered: - grilled octopus - pretty good!! Although, don't expect too much octopus - seared scallops - pretty good, but also super salty. It comes out on a bed of chickpeas - seared tuna tataki - not bad, just okay - Mediterranean salad - i liked this one! simple and good - skirt steak al jerez - not bad either, just okay - chicken croquetas - my least favorite, just kinda tasted like mush to me - garlic shrimp - probably our favorite dish, flavorful and well cooked shrimp we were debating between the chicken croquetas and the crispy potatoes, and the server recommended the chicken croquetas. However, I regret that because someone next to us ordered the potatoes after we ordered, and they looked really good. Parking is validated if you park in the garage, and I think if you valet they will take $2 off. We parked in the garage - and you have to take an elevator to the restaurant. All in all, service was really good, but I can't say I ordered anything I would come back for. read more
