I used Uber eats so did not see the actual food truck! But it was quick and delivery was fast. Now the food, wow it's a huge portion but it was delicious, I got the combo (chicken and lamb) over yellow rice and had lettuce and cucumber on the side, I drizzled the white sauce on top and wow it was so good!!! Yno there are places that do the gyro in cubes. Or chunks of meat. There are places that do it in thin slices. I personally am a thin sliced kind of guy. I think the flavor in the meat is strong, and can be a bit overwhelming when clunked together. So I believe to create a beautiful harmony within the gyro it must be thinner slices. This place is cubed or chunky meat pieces. Again. You may like that but I do not. The flavor gets a bit too salty and overpowers everything else I'm eating. Luckily the place can serve it quite spicy which I truly appreciate. There were a fair amount of vegetables. Even and balanced. Never felt like "o dang... This is a ton of veggies..." It felt like a solid good amount. But.... I have had better. The flavors didn't sing as it should. Or could have. I liked it. Trust me. Nothing gets me going than a solid gyro sammy. Gyro King is the real deal. My friends and I needed a quick bite and happened to stumbled across their page on yelp. Gyro King is a food truck located in a gas station parking lot, but don't let this deter you- their food is so fresh and well seasoned. We ordered a falafel wrap- definitely one of the top 2 falafels I have ever had. Falafel is normally too "bread-y" for me, but this one was so full of flavor and texture. I also ordered the chicken over rice and I highly recommend this. I really enjoy the way they season their chicken- you can tell it's unique from other popular chain halal restaurants. There are a bunch of Mediterranean and halal type food options in this area of town, but so far this is my favorite. We had been going to gyro hut across the street but decided to mix things up and I'm glad we did. While the menu options are pretty similar, gyro king had better portion sizes and imo, seems to be more freshly made. Food is made quickly and staff is friendly. We have gotten combo rice platter and chapli kebab platter and really enjoyed both. I've also had the fruit juices in the past and they are excellent (they have a super impressive juicer if you watch them make it!) Of note, this is a food truck and does not have any seating (which is ok by me during this pandemic time). They have a sign that says they will be opening/?moving to new location, so not sure if that will be another food truck or a sit-down. I asked for the salad on the side because I was going to take it home and heat it up and eat it later but I realized they could've just put it on the side instead of the foil and probably give u more. I hyped this place up in my head and it just fell a little short. My apartment is only a 10-minute drive from here so it was convenient to stop by and check it out. There were several people who ordered before me waiting for their food. Once I placed my order everything moved really fast. I received my plate in about 10 minutes. I ordered a lamb and chicken combo plate. Usually, it's $9 but if you pay with card they add an extra charge which they do inform you of. My total ended up being $9.75 however when I checked my bank statement I was charged $10.44. Not sure what went wrong but it wasn't a big deal. Wonder if anyone else has had this problem. Rushed home to dig into my meal. Overall it was meh. There wasn't anything special about it. The white sauce was underwhelming and the red sauce was not spicy what so ever. I honestly could have finished the whole thing in one sitting but decided not to be a pig and ration it out. I have another halal place in mind that trumps Gyro King and it's cheaper so I would most likely choose that place than the latter. Gyro King was the first food place I ate at when coming to Houston and what a great start to my foodie adventure that was! This food truck is located in a gas stations parking lot. I don't think the truck has soft drinks, however, they do have fruit & vegetable juices. I will sometimes go inside the gas station to grab a drink and maybe even a treat while they work on my meal, which doesn't usually take long. Because this is a food truck, the food is meant to be to-go; There are no tables or benches for you to sit and eat at. Brays Bayou is a nice park just down the street @ 6532 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77021 (a 3min. drive) and would be a nice place to eat at if you are trying to find somewhere outdoors to eat... especially during sunset! I love the chicken over rice platter with the sauces on the side! Also highly recommend the falafel! Portions sizes for the bowls are pretty nice, I can usually get two meals out of it. I don't often eat in the med center but I was in the area for lunch on a Thursday. A friend of mine had hyped up Gyro King and I finally had a chance to check them out. They're a food truck located in the parking lot of a gas station. It's a grab-and-go type experience as there isn't anywhere to sit unless you eat in your car. I went with the lamb and chicken combo over rice with the sauce on the side and my dining companion ordered the gyro fries. The dishes are pretty much the same if you swap out the fries for rice. Considering my combo platter, you get a good amount of food. Definitely enough for two meals unless you're a fattie. The white sauce is what I put on mine and I'm not big on spicy so I passed on the red sauce. Between the lamb and chicken, I definitely preferred the lamb. The chicken is marinated in a reddish marinade and the spices tasted like what you often have at Indian restaurants. The lamb was your typical gyro meat. For the other dish, the fries were crispy which I liked. I enjoyed Gyro King but would go with the lamb over rice next time. Above average but not regal. Food came out quick. We park nearby and get out, as we wait behind these people. The ordering guy says, "how may I help you ladies?" My sister immediately says with a smile, I would like a number 2. To my surprise, she already knew what she wanted. Then the guy, talks to my sister about her job as a labour as he prepares the food. She talks to him about her job as a hard-worker, they talk. I just listen and smile. Then boom!, the food is ready. My sister says, "Wow, that was quick!" I say, "Yup, let's go!" When we sit our butts back into her Ford, we both can smell the aroma of the styrofoam box: a ventilation system of sweet tasteful smells. She opens the box to reveal, not just a sexy fully dressed meal, but a beautifully dressed lamb, vegetables, yellow rice covered in a white gown of Tzatziki sauce (T-sauce). All I could think of was, "dang, I should have gotten some", but I had eaten a grilled cheese sandwich earlier and was full. She says, "wow, they put two forks in here." and asks if I wanted some. I tell her, "heck yes!" We both had an orgasm in the mouth after tasting that seasoned to perfection lamb and that cinnamon spiced rice. Oh, my, oh, my...even the vegetables were freshly prepared. My sister ate the whole thing in a bite, only carefully taking a few breaks in between. After my third bite, I wanted more and even dreamed about having more in my belly as we drove around completely lost with nowhere to go, but home. I stopped to get gas on the way home from the gym and decided to grab dinner from this food truck and it turned out to be a great decision. I ordered half rice and half lamb over rice and the food was ready instantaneously! Without a doubt my favorite gyro food truck. The lamb over rice is just addictive. There are many gyro places, food trucks and otherwise, but the lamb here is just so great. I recommend getting the sauces on the side because I think they go a little heavy, but the sauces are also tasty. The red sauce isn't the spiciest, but it has a nice tang to it. The gyro itself is also very good. The pita is just so pillowy. But without a doubt the lamb over rice is where it's at. The portion size is also pretty big for the price. During this past year the convenience of getting food from a food truck has made this an even better recommendation. You know it's good when people have waited in the pouring rain for some food from here. Side note: if you're looking for falafel, I recommend going somewhere else. It's not really good here.
