I hit this food truck up on a Monday at 6:30p and WooHoo, no line!! My friends and I decided to go with lamb & Chk combo rice and I was not disappointed. The lamb had great flavor and even though my friends kept saying how "different in flavor" the chk was in comparison to Halal guys, I enjoyed it. You can't beat the price given how HUGE the portion is; I easily made 2 meals out of mine. So, as for the sauces: the white is definitely not like a Tzatziki sauce that I thought it was going to be....it was more like a lite tangy ranch version. Tasty but different. And the red sauce, it pretty much tasted like straight up Tabasco sauce lol. If you prefer your sauce on the side like I do, they will give you 2 white sauces and 1 red but I do feel they put more sauce on it if you order it the regular way. As for my verdict, I am def a fan! Yah it's a food truck located in the parking lot of an Exxon gas station who cares, I'm no stranger to a food truck located that someone may describe it as a sketchy" location. Wow... the moment you park, it smells like heaven. Food smells AMAZING even before eating it. Oh my goodness. One of my favorite comfort foods is lamb. Ever since I had me first gyro with lamb and tzaziki sauce, I knew from that very moment that this would be my all time favorite food to eat. I've been meaning to try Gyro King just because of the distance from home and work, as well as the raving reviews. For some reason, I never got the chance to try Gyro King until today. And I regret not eating food from Gyro Kind years ago. I called ahead so that I could just have food ready by the time I came. All the reviews talk about having to wait a while and you would have to call in advance. So I did that. I will repeat. The moment you drive up. You instantly smell amazing food coming from the food truck. I ordered 2 lamb over rice with extra sauce. When it came time to pay, the owner asked if I had cash. Unfortunately, I didn't. He suggested that next time when I come, to pay in cash because if I were to pay with my credit card, I would get charged for taxes and extra fees. That was nice of him to suggest that. Now the food. FREAKING AMAZING. OH MY GOD. The sauce. The chopped up lamb. The crispness of the cucumber and lettuce. The cooked basmati rice. So simple, yet so delicious. One box is enough to feed two. Just make sure they are up and running, the start up can be tough but once they start slinging these platters out you better watch out. I have had Halal Guys in NYC and Halal Bros in Austin, both are better, but this place is better than Jones Fried Chicken in my opinion. And it's an added bonus that it's minutes away from my house. When I looked up Gyro King on Yelp, I thought it was a sit down restaurant, but its actually a food truck! It looks kind of sketchy since its right next to a gas station, but the food is definitely worth it. On this visit, I tried their combo platter, which was comprised of a variety of meats, including lamb and chicken. Gyro King definitely doesn't skimp on the protein like other places. There was so more meat than rice in the platter. Anytime I am in the surrounding area, I will be sure to make another visit to Gyro King! I'm ready to try all of their wraps and platters! read more

The food here is just amazing. I recently moved to the area and I'm so glad this food truck is so close. I've had their lamb over rice platter, combo platter, chicken platter, and tried their juices. The rice is delicious and perfectly cooked, the meats are very well seasoned and their sauces are just a must. Today I attended their free food event because of their 6 year anniversary and they didn't disappoint. They had lines going on all day before they had to announce they ran out of food and had to close by 4pm. Also the first 30 people received 20$ (almost made it I was number 36) Anyway if you're feeling like trying something new, delicious, quick, and great quality, try this place out you won't be disappointed. This food truck holds it own when it comes to halal food. Having lived in Houston for the past three years, I've found myself craving NY's street halal food. I used to get a chicken over rice at 5 in the morning after clubbing/karaoking around the town. I've tried different halal spots in H-town and none of them really hit the spot like the NY ones. However, this truck is the closest to that edible experience that I've missed. I got the chicken and lamb over rice, ordered through uber eats, and the entire experience was pleasant. One downside to this location is the parking. When I moved away from the Houston Medical Center area, this place was one of the reasons I missed living there. The best bang for your buck is the rice dishes. I arrive around 2:30 and ordered lamb over rice ($8.50) with both white and red sauces. It took about 8 minutes when I got my order. IT IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY (especially after trying Jones Fried Chicken). 1. Jones gives you bigger portions... Way more than Gyro King. 2. Gyro King's white sauce was too salty! I added a bit of steamed rice to balance it. 3. Gyro King's red sauce is not spicy whatsoever. I don't even remember what it tasted like. Jones' red sauce makes me cry, but I keep eating it because it's damn good. 4. Oh, Jones is cheaper than Gyro King. 100% recommend this place. This is and has been my go-to stop for quality gyros. It's located in the parking lot of the Chevron gas station in a bright yellow bus/truck. The food is always ready fast, and the employees have always been nice. I like the gyro meat more than the chicken as I think it's juicer and has more flavor, but they're both good. The gyro meat does not taste gamey at all, which is something I'm wary of when eating lamb in general. I always get the meat (gyro or combo) over rice rather than in the pita and when I remember, I ask them to grill the onions quickly to get rid of the raw onion taste and that makes the food so much better. Their white sauce is really good, and they're generous with it. The hot sauce is pretty spicy, so ask for it on the side if you can't handle spice. The portion of food you get is huge. When I'm really hungry, I can sometimes finish it all in one sitting, but there's usually a little leftover. Give this place a try; you won't regret it! read more

Hands down one of my favorite gyro places in Houston. If I'm ever eating in the Med Center, I try to come by here. The food is cheap, abundant, and delicious. What more can you ask for? I highly recommend the lamb over rice. The meat is seasoned and cooked perfectly. Even if you don't like lamb normally, the flavor is different from your lamb chops, so I think you'll still really enjoy it. The rice too is great - fluffy and just barely flavored. Definitely top it off with the DELICIOUS white sauce and you're good to go. Did I mention that the food they give you is PLENTIFUL with a capital P? The box is huge, filled to the brim. You don't want to top off your food until you're ready to eat, otherwise it's going to spill everywhere. Mix it all up together - the meat, sauce, lettuce, and rice, and you'll have a good time. I drove here from the north side about 1 hour away. The food is simple, prices are reasonable, but I wasn't a fan because the meat doesn't really have any good flavor to it. Though the prices do not compare to New York's halal carts, they are decent for Houston! For the combo lamb / chicken platter, it's $9.75 if you pay with a credit card. New York's were flat $5 - $6. The other dishes range from $7 - $8. There is a 69 cent charge if you pay with a credit card. The platter came with fresh vegetables (actually fresh and no dead leafy ends!) and you can elect to have the sauce on the side. The portion was HUGE! I got the lamb and chicken combo, and the lamb was delicious!!! The chicken was a bit dry and tough, so I wouldn't get the chicken again. The truck was located on the property of the gas station and there were about 4 parking spots right next to the trucks. It is NOT in the VA - I made that mistake! I usually have their chicken over rice, sauces on the side. Very well marinated chicken, and beautifully cooked rice. You could tell they use good quality ingredients, specially the rice, unlike other middle eastern places that are too cheap to offer proper basmati rice. The rice is also always well seasoned. I can really only compare this to Halal guys and bros. If you're looking for something similar then by all means, come here. I ordered the lamb and chicken combo and it was quite aromatic and flavorful. If you peer inside the truck the rotating slab of meat doesn't seem like much but man oh man does that opinion change when you open the box of that sweet sweet goodness. Juicy, flavorful, spiced perfectly pieces of meat on top of the bed of rice with the perfect amount of their sauce layered in... for about 8.70 I think. I forgot. Portion was large and I got full 3/4 of the way. Though I find it a TINY bit pricey. One gripe I had was the vegetable side, which was simply mini chopped cucumbers that didn't serve their purpose in cutting the fatty savoriness of the rest of the plate. Also this is a food truck and there are no tables so you're gonna have to get it to go. The area is kinda shady but just go when there are lots of people. There was a homeless guy that approached the truck while we were there and the guys in the truck actually made him a fresh plate of food for free. Baklava had expired long ago. Falafel tasted like it had been left under a heat lamp since last week, the "salad" that accompanied the falafel looked more like it belonged on an episode of fear factor, and the gyro itself was an absolute gut bomb. 10/10 will never be back.
