Gyro King is a dive in the best possible sense of the word. It shares a dining area with a brick over pizzeria and you order off a menu board so packed with items, your eyes cross. I have only ever ordered the gyro and fries here. Why try anything else when they tell you what they do best??? The portions are monsterous and the price reflects that. But the flavor of the food is fresh and excellent. You are full after the meal and don't mind spending the money for quality food. Again, don't let the building turn you away. 0/5. VERY RUDE. First, the chicken wings are not actually cooked raw, which is the more professional way to do it. Recently I had an encounter of coming in on a Monday when they changed their times to opening at 12 instead of 4 for the first time. When we went in early that afternoon, there was a very sweet woman, who I later found out was her first day. We asked if they were doing their bogo for their Monday wings. She said yes, and was not told anything about bogo starting at a certain time. We ended up going elsewhere, but went back the following week on Monday, at around the same time for wings. when we walked in and asked about flavors, we were told that if I wanted bogo I would need to come back at 3 because that's when it started. We initially were okay with it but asked if they had changed the times because the previous time we were not denied because of bogo time not starting yet. Some guy who seemed to be maybe a manager or owner started to say that I did NOT come in and was NOT told I could get wings at that time. When proceeding to say that yes, I did come in and was told I could get it, which is why I came back he was very rude. Later, saying something similar to "if you keep talking, we will kick you out". The nice woman as we were leaving mouthed "I'm sorry". Obviously, she could see his actions were extremely unprofessional, unnecessary and inappropriate. I hope others have a better experience, but I would never talk to a customer like that. We were just getting clarity on why we were being told something different. We live within walking distance so we come to Gyro King frequently for lunch and dinner, but now they serve BREAKFAST! We got a chance to check it out this morning, and just like every other thing we've ever had, their breakfast is on point! Bagels fresh out of the oven, the most delicious raspberry cream cheese made fresh, egg sandwiches...they even fixed up a single scrambled egg for my kiddos to eat! The owner was there this morning and he chatted with us making us feel like family. We have eaten here, on average, 5-6 times a month for the last 4 years and we have yet to have a bad experience. Disappointing. This business does not require, nor follow, the health and safety protocols in place during this pandemic. While serving and handling food, no associate was spotted with gloves nor face coverings. I will not visit this establishment again. The owner of the restaurant was quite rude and arrogant. He held no respect for my concerns and blew me off. The characteristics of an owner matter when running a business and unfortunately for Gyro King, his characteristics show in the lack of cleanliness and standard of the restaurant. I've been going there for the stuffed peppers for about a month. As close to my grandmothers & moms as I've had. Super yummy. I went today, got my stuffed peppers and on a whim got a small margarita pizza. Mind you, I am a borderline hater of pizza, but this was by far the best pizza I've had and has made me a believe...but only of theirs! We ordered the special which was 2 for 1gyro on a pita. We chose to add feta 50 cents each. The gyro was LOADED with meat plus some onions, tomatoes and tzatziki sauce. It was completely delicious. Also ordered their curly fries which were very good. Fresh and hot and tasty. Not over done. Inside the place was pretty quiet. I saw one table of people. The menu is very large and if you would rather try a pizza or italian walk over to the other side of the place and order that. It truly is a place to try. Prices are right and friendly staff. I am a Chicago, midwest born & bred native, who grew up near Greektown and true/legit Greek gyros; so I know really good gyros. I can say that these gyros are absolutely DYNAMITE!! I just picked up a Pizza for the first time, a New York Style Slice of Heaven! They make monster sized Calzones and Strombolis. A Specialty is made, called the King's Crown by the Owner & Pizza Pot Pie by the staff. It's baked with whatever pizza toppings you want and looks like a cheesecake! 2/1/12 I've eaten at Gyro King ~6 times since my first review. Still great as always and they've added a nice brick oven pizza section right next to it. I haven't found any better gyros in the area. 9/1/2011 You know you've hit the the jackpot when you're grabbing a late dinner at 8:30pm, the rain is pouring down, and there's a line of hungry diners that stretches from the counter back to the front door. You also know you've landed at Gyro King. I scoured the restaurant review sites for this area looking for the best gyros in town, and Gyro King was at or near the top on every list. It's a well-deserved reputation. I haven't had every gyro in the world, but I've had them from Greece to the west coast, and GK's gyro is one of the finest I've ever had. Gyro King is located in a small strip center, with about 7-8 tables and 3 TV screens to the right of the ample counter area. In fact, the area allocated for lines at the order/counter is about 20 feet deep, and I'm betting there are days they need every bit of that space. Nothing fancy going on here, everything is very clean and neat, and you couldn't care less once you're eating GK's tasty food. I got a gyro for dine-in and a steak (actually, the "Steak Bomb" with provolone/onion/peppers/mushroom) to go, as both sandwiches were highly recommended on the review sites. The gyro was packed with hot, moist meat fresh off the spit, served on a warm, very tasty pita. Seems like so many gyros seem to have second-rate pitas. Gyro King makes no such mistake, The gyro could have easily filled me up, but I decided to take one for the team, as the lure of making sure I tried the steak fresh and hot was too great. Gyro King makes no mistakes, and absolutely nails the classic steak by piling huge servings of moist/hot steak that overflows the fresh Amaroso bread brought in straight from Philly. I had planned on just taking a few bites for a taste test, but found it impossible to resist eating the half I picked up. GK's meat seems to be sliced just a bit thicker than Delco's (the best I've had in the area before trying GK's), and choosing between the two will now be a tossup for me, with a slight edge going to GK for the abundance of steak crammed inside the Amaroso. Service was fast and friendly, with the sandwiches served up promptly in spite of the busy line of customers. The young lady at the counter was handling all the orders with ease and friendly conversation, More big bonus points for their carrying at least a few brands of beer to wash down their great food. I'm sure there are reasons most sandwich shops don't bother with it (licensing, I'm guessing), but I'd just say a big thanks to the GK owners for this detail. It really put the meal over the top. And finally, as if there isn't anything more that could make Gyro King a must visit, check out their website for great weekly specials, like 2-for-1 gyros served every Wednesday from 3pm to closing (10pm nightly, except for 9pm Sundays). I've found no better value for reasonably priced, great food in the area. I'm definitely headed back next Tuesday to try their 2-for-1 special on hot-pressed Tampa Cubans, and to try a Chicago-style Italian beef. The menu is very complete for a simple sandwich shop, and I'm looking forward to more visits to try things out. After driving 17 hours from Philadelphia to Tarpon I made Gyro King the first stop. Being from Philadelphia I was very skeptical of their cheesesteaks but after trying one I was pleasantly surprised. They actually import authentic Amoroso rolls from Philadelphia. Anyone who calls labels themselves a cheesesteak connoisseur knows that the bread choice is critical. After many years away I looked forward to eating at the first place I'd ever eaten a gyro, and fallen in love with them. I couldn't have been more disappointed. I happened to be in the area on their BOGO day. Maybe that is why it wasn't good. The place had maybe about 100 already made gyros stacked up on a shelf behind the counter. I ordered my gyro and the guy stuck 2 in a bag and gave my food. They were cold and soggy. They never used to have BOGO. I think it may be different owners. There was always the same guy (I think his name was Chris, and he owned the place) Everything was made to order. Hot fresh delicious. Maybe the fact they stack them up to handle the demand of BOGO is why it wasn't good. I don't really know. They've also expanded. They've knocked out a wall and added pizza on the other side. It kind of looked like a different business, but it was connected so I'm not sure. I hope the bad food was a fluke because I've really missed those gyros. read more

BEWARE.... They claim to give approximately a 10% discount for paying cash. When asked why I pay more using a debit card. I was told that was the credit card fee. I told the girl that was not true. I know that the fee for a resturant to use a credit card is between 2-4% dependant on the type of card. In my case 2%. I told her that this practice is shady. Great food. I've had their cheesesteaks and their pizza. The cheesesteaks ARE yummy and their pizza is pretty good too. Try their Lasagna pizza, no pasta on it but their special sausage, ricotta and some other stuff, it's really yum. I can't eat more than one slice. Their spinach pizza is good too, more like a spanakopita in pizza form that the Italian version as they use feta, but still good. Burgers are excellent, but dont slop on too much as I feel like the lettuce tomatoes and stuff and pretty limp. Everything is pretty salt and always greasy.
