I love this place, it's casual and in the summer they open the outside walls so it's like alfresco dining almost! The food is fresh and the service is pretty good everyone is always friendly ... I haven't had much here besides a Greek salad with chicken or shrimp or a gyro but both are always delish as I'm waiting for my salad to go I notice the staff has on the cutest tee shirts with gyro world sayings on them like who needs ABS when you have KEBABS I know cheesy but I love it !!!! Been here a couple of times. And the food here is delicious!! Ordered the calamari and was pleasantly surprised that they was made to order. It came out crispy and juicy. Their pita breads are very good as well but they don't give you a whole lot. We asked for more sauce and pita bread the first time went and they told us we had to put in an order for it. So we did. Overall, everything was tasty. However, I'm a bit disappointed with their service. Getting a server is almost impossible. They don't come around frequently. In fact we gave up trying to flag a server down after 5 minutes. We just walked up and asked for what we needed. Gyro World hasn't disappointed me yet! Their pita bread with the tzatziki sauce is awesome. I love it so much I usually finish all of it before my main dish comes. I love the Greek style gyro and their gyro platters. They give you plenty of food and you will leave satisfied. Their homemade fries are delicious as well. I find myself subconsciously just eating them, and before I know it, I've ate them all! Once, my friend and I ordered the gyro world platter for two people. IT WAS HUGE. It says it's for two people, but it can definitely feed a family of four. When we were finished, it looked like we barely touched the plate...so it became lunch and dinner for the next day... I got four words for you: The Gyro World Plate. It is served with served with pita and tzatziki but why would you bother with the pita because when the rest of of The Gyro World Plate comes out, you don't want to be full of bread carbs so you can try their meat plate full of: Gyro (beef and lamb), Greek Gyro (pork), Lamb Bifteki, Chicken Bifteki, Pork Souvlaki, Chicken Souvlaki, & Loukaniko. My fave is the Pork Souvlaki which comes on the skewer. Yeah, the Tzatziki is good too. If you need extra Tzatziki, it'll cost but it sure is good. The Gyro World Plate comes in two sizes, serves 2 ($29.95) and serves 4 ($46.95-ish). The "serves 2" platter really serves more than two but we always take it to go for the next few meals. The serves 4, Holy Cow...no pun intended. Don't worry, The Gyro Plate comes with a pair of tongs for the table! haha what a meat fest! Don't bring a vegan/vegetarian..might be uber offensive to them! I ordered the Greek Style Gyro platter because it seemed like a good deal. I ordered the platter with lemon potatoes and soup (Lemon egg drop soup with orzo). The soup was delicious and honestly the BEST part of the meal sadly. When the platter arrived. I was disappointed because my lemon potatoes were insanely greasy and burnt. The lemon potatoes are other greek establishments such as Fontana DO NOT come with burnt lemon potatoes that are covered in oil literally. They tasted terrible. The meet, pork or lamb because I couldn't tell, was fatty and greasy just as well. Some of it was burnt too. The tzatziki sauce was delicious though (actual bits of cucumber inside like it should be). Honestly, the best thing is the soup and the bread. Seriously, what about the main platter? I would NOT come back unless to try some of their other meals that might be better like the actual gyro and a different meat. And oh, thank you for giving us a complementary dessert. Food: when a man wants meat and little carbs the gyro platter is the way to go. Sometimes you just need greasy food and lots of meat. The platter for two is more like a platter for 3. Its honestly not that greasy, just the perfect amount of grease for you to feel like a man. A lot of different types of meat, the lamb imo is the best. So tender and so much flavor. The chicken is dry though. I can't seem to find a place that serves good chicken except fast food joints. Again, lots of food at a great price. Service: Not very fast service but then again, i don't think I would want them to be with this platter. They are giving you a lot of different meats, its a whole farm on a platter, don't expect it to be speedy. The people are nice, one of the few places where I always tip extra. Environment. How does this place have lower ratings than Fontana? I used to go to Fontana until I discovered Gyro World. The food here is just so much better and less soggy. Highly recommend the Greek Gyro. The platters for 2 or 4 are great too if you're with a bunch of people. Fries are surprisingly crispy if you eat in. Lemon potatoes are good as well but swimming in grease. I'd ask to get them in a separate container if you're getting delivery or take-out. I'm going to second the review below in saying that their phone service for delivery is great. We tried gyro world in Astoria, so we had to try this one on northern Blvd. We had a party of six, so we started with onions rings was very good, they have two platters that would serve small (2-4), large (6-8). I ordered for pick-up over the phone and was super satisfied by the woman who took my order, I regret not remembering her name. But she was so pleasant to speak with and was very thorough. The reason for the two-star's however is I ordered calamari and the tomato sauce it came with was fermented! I was suspicious when I opened it because it seemed like it almost had a vacuum seal to it and when I opened it I saw it bubble up. After a few indifferent glances between my friends and I, I wanted to give it the benefit of doubt so I tasted it and it was basically carbonated! Super disappointing, calamari pairs with marinara like Tzatziki on a gyro, which by the way! I ordered two Greek gyro platters and specifically paid extra for extra sauce, but it was no where to be found! It would have been just a star, but the woman over the phone recommended me desserts, Rice pudding and Mosaiko, and they could have saved the day but the platters were below average. Gyro World is THE place to go to when you need to fill your hungry belly! The food is superb for the price! The Greek salad is fresh with the right portion of feta and homemade dressing. The lemon potatoes are generous potato slices smothered in citrus-y lemon and herb seasoning. The meats are cooked to perfection and generously portioned, but truly it is the tzatziki sauce that RULES!!! My oh my! You will wish for more of that stuff!! When ordering, please remember the portions are HUGE!!! The Gyro Platter for two definitely feeds four or two very hungry people for two very tasty meals!!! This place is worth the hassle of finding street parking. The service is quick and the food is great. Their fries with mint are to die for, though once I had to ask for them to be made more crispy. The chicken is tender and they are generous with the tzatziki sauce. The chicken on the kabob sandwich is much more tender than it is at Fontana's, though I prefer the grilled veggies on the Fontana sandwich to the raw salad veggies on the GW version. Also, for the platter you need to choose between soup OR salad while at Fontana's you get both. I'd like to start by saying that this place is quite cozy but pretty tight for your average guy. I was seated near the opening windows. The food here was great, everything was nicely cooked and well seasoned. I ordered the gyro platter, it came with lamb, fries, pita bread, and salad. The lamb was a bit greasy and the fries seemed refried. The salad could of had a bit more attention, rather than having them clumped up individually.
