"It'll be worth it." Then we got into an argument over how you pronounce 'Gyro' (the g is silent). At least, that's what everyone in Greektown in Detroit has told me my entire life growing up. And then my friend did not believe me that there's a huge Greek population and food culture in Detroit. Long sigh. So was the pita worth $11? Yes. . . . it's a lot of money for the size of the sandwich I think but the meat is so tender, the tzatziki sauce is freaking amazing. I was intending on eating a quarter of it or maybe half when I got home and saving the rest for the next day and ate the entire damn thing. Gyro world has sadly gone downhill, such a disappointing dinner. Started with haloumi appetizer, nothing special and quite pricey. The pita is thin and dry, not soft and fluffy. The chicken bifteki used to be so good here, now it's much smaller and not nearly as juicy or tasty. At first I thought it was slightly burnt until I turned it over and saw it was extremely burnt. As for the gyro salad, they gave us lettuce that was old and wilted. The meat itself was fine. Will likely be my last visit, used to love this place but it's not good anymore. read more

Do not ever give them your business. They refuse to take care of their customers when something goes wrong. We ordered 1 1/2 trays of calamari for a party. They sent more than half the order full of fried zucchini. If you're paying for calamari you should get calamari. I did not pay fish prices to get zucchini. Called to voice my concerns and the manager never returns my call. On top of it the little calamari that was sent was rubbery and inedible. Manager refuses to call me back. read more

Happened to go by on Sunday for lunch and there was no A/C. It was humid outside, so we took the food to go. No air conditioning in the summer is a turn off. I have not been here in a while, i also noticed prices went up as we order 3 Chicken souvlaki and the bill was $32. The person at the counter gave me a flyer that we can use for a 20% discount on the first time i order on the web. Doubt i will use it and there after they offer 10% on all web base orders. 3.5 stars - Gyro world is a great spot to satisfy greek food cravings. However, there are a few things that are done really well, and some things that could just be a little better. The pork gyro platter ($22.95) here is my go-to order. It comes with a healthy serving of pork gyro, your choice of a side, a starter, a pita, & tzatziki. Portions here are generous - one platter usually serves as 2-3 meals for me, so it is well worth the price. Breaking down the platter here: the pork gyro is well seasoned & flavorful, and their tzatziki is one of my favorites. I always opt for the pork gyro for my choice of protein, because the chicken souvlaki and grilled chicken are quite dry. I also don't eat lamb. For my starter & side, I usually get the lemon potatoes and greek salad. I much prefer the lemon potatoes over the rice, which is somewhat reminiscent of cafeteria tasting rice. The greek salad is fresh, & comes with a really zesty dressing, so it helps to provide some contrast to the meat. Avgolemono soup as a side is decent, but not great. I would recommend getting an extra pita and tzatziki (extra cost), but it helps to balance out all of the flavors. If ordering takeout, remember to check your bag for your full order before you leave! The last time we ordered, we didn't realize we were missing fries until we got home. The order of fries couldn't be refunded, but they did offer to provide store credit linked to my phone number, or we could return to the restaurant to pick up the missing order. Wow! I've been gyros for over 40 years and let me tell you the gyro sandwiches from here. The pitas are packed with juicy gyro meats. Flavors are well balanced, not too salty. Buttery pitas (not stale). The tzatziki sauce is so tasty! Yummie!!! These people are not cheap with the toppings: lettuce, tomatoes and red onions. Although we have lived only several miles away for many years, we have only recently come to Gyro World and now it's become part of our rotation of places to carryout from. We normally go for their platters and 2 platters is usually more than enough for 3 people to share. Among our favorite items from here are the beef & lamb gyro, chicken bifteki, avgolemono soup, & lemon potatoes. The food is plentiful, prepared on time, hot & fresh even after the 10- to 15-minute drive home, and fairly priced. Once COVID is done with, we look forward to dining in and enjoying the food at the height of freshness. We 1st had their food at friend's house, and we have "paid it forward" by taking food over to another family's house, and they also complimented the food. Have been wanting to try Gyro World and finally got to try it! Came here with 2 friends for dinner and we ordered the platter with a Greek salad, a side of lemon potatoes, and a combo of 3 meats! My friends and I chose the beef & lamb gyro, the pork gyro, and the chicken souvlaki. My favorite was the pork gyro and it tasted SO GOOD!! I love French fries and any shape and form of potatoes so the lemon potatoes were absolutely delish! The pita bread was also delicious! They only give one plate of pita at first and it was cut into 4 pieces. I felt bad asking for more but that is absolutely not enough for all that meat nor was it enough for 3 people! The tzatziki was also so delicious that I couldn't stop spreading it on my pita bread and under the meat! Service was good and the staff were all really friendly! Look no further, best feta in town as well as the best Gyro platters too. I've been a fan for years but haven't been coming as often giving my picky kids. While it's a local neighborhood gem for sure, my kids have not yet developed the palates to eat Greek or Mediterranean fare. Still a work in progress. So when I can, sans kids, I'll be sure to make a trip. Table service is the best way to dine here. Things just taste and look better plated. Taking it to go is fine too but the presentation is not the same. The wait staff is prompt and the kitchen is always bustling with activity. The pita bread is excellent when hot and just served. I also love the Greek salad with feta and that's saying a lot since I am not a salad person most of the time. Ha ha (And yes, I often order a side of extra feta as I like to have a little more to share for the table). My favorite plates are the "make your own platter" - you can decide 2 or 3 mains and then the sides are the Greek salad and pita. Easy - order what you like. Their menu listed options are fine too but I like to mix my platters up a bit. My most recent visit - I ordered a custom platter - Halloumi (brined grilled cheese mixture of goat or sheep's milk with cow milk) with the bifteki. The Halloumi was grilled perfectly - not burnt and just the right amount of grill marks. You can taste the subtle brine on the cheese. Delicious. And the bifteki was moist and oh so flavorful. It's a cross between a burger like patty or a steak. I didn't know what I wanted to devour first since both are best warm. On other visits I've ordered pizza for the kids and they are a fan. That's not always guaranteed at Greek places since their pizza is not made the way Italian pizzeria's make it. So here's your short list, my tried and true must try for this place: Feta (salad optional), Gyro, Souvlaki, pizza and the Halloumi. Enjoy! Note: gets really busy on the weekends. We pre-ordered, in-person, a large takeout for a party at our house last Saturday. The order was taken promptly and efficiently and in a very friendly manner by the owner/manager, and everything was prepared as ordered and delivery exactly on time. (A shout-out to the friendly delivery man as well.) This place is still open for takeout during the quarantine period. My family in Queens gets takeout here a lot. Fresh authentic greek food at affordable prices. The quarantine has opened me up to exploring local restaurants for take out that I have not tried before. My husband and I ordered from them first on Uber Eats and really enjoyed it. Then we decided to go for a short drive and check them out. If you go to get your order, make sure to order ahead or you will likely be waiting. They have contactless delivery through a window on the side. My order was ready on time when I got the notification on my phone. The food was packaged well in sturdy containers that keep the heat. So if you pick it up yourself, or get it delivery it is warm when you get home. I got the chicken souvlaki dinner and it was flavorful and a good portion. Stopped here quickly after work before the Super Bowl. Ordered a large Greek salad with beef/lamb gyro meat on top. The portion was huge and tasted amazing ! Ok, visited this place last tuesday night 1/30/18 we had a party of 6 people. Very nice place with plenty of seating; we were greeted with a smile and friendly service and sat immediately; our young male waiter was very informative to explain the menu and choices...... We had their fried calamari which was just as good as any top Italian Resturant if not better; we also had their roasted eggplant and let's not forget their spinach pie ... we all shared theses appetizers and we did order a small Greek salad... They give you plenty of hot pita with not enough white sauce so ask your server for a large cup of that white sauce which they gladly give you !!! Next out waiter suggested that we order the Gyro World Plate which comes with an assortment of all the meat they serve they have a small n a large order we were going to order the large but the waiter told us that the small would be plenty and he was correct !!! We really enjoyed everything from start to finish !! We came all the way from Brooklyn suggested by a friend ( thanks Aldo )to give it a try and it was well worth the trip and we will definitely return again....... Yikes. Decided to try this place after a family friend recommended it, all I can say is that there are definitely better places around. Food was ok, it's not like the best I've ever had. Ordered hot wings (which was fried, breaded, and not spicy at all) and 2 platters (one lamb and one chicken+beef). Service was not good. The manager seems okay he was overall friendly. The servers on the other hand were just terrible...our waiter didn't seem to understand English or ignored what we were saying. We ordered 2 platters and each is suppose to come with pita bread and tzatziki sauce. They only gave us 1 pita with sauce. When we asked for the other pita, he was like "yes you got the pita already, it's on the table". We had to explain we ordered 2 platters, he was still hesitant to give pita. And when he gave us the pita there was no sauce. When we asked for sauce he proceeded to tell us it's extra charge...we tried to explain it shouldn't be extra charge but he said he'll be back and disappeared. Another waiter saw we were looking for our waiter and asked what we needed. We explained we needed another tzaziki sauce, he was also like "ok...." and just went on with his own business. Been coming here for a while with friends on Sunday afternoons. The service seems to depend on who's working and whether the boss is in. Recently staff have been a bit more attentive and pleasant than past experiences. Gyro world has an indoor/outdoor vibe. On nice days they open the ceiling to wall windows in the front and you get a nice breeze while having your meal. Typical foods; gyros, salads, pizza, platters, soups and appetizers. They have wall mounted TV's and sometimes they will change the channel if you're looking to watch a sports game. They play Greek music on the speakers. Over the last year or so I have noticed the prices on the menu creeping higher and higher. A platter has gone from $11-12 now seeing prices starting at $16 for platters. I guess with higher rents and such prices go up too but quality of food and staff seem to remain the same, so can't give a win win for it. Their pita and tzatziki sauce are yummy but you pay per pita unless you get a platter. I usually get their pizza slice ($3) or chicken fingers ($10). Both thumbs up in my book. If it weren't for the group of buddies I have, I wouldn't see myself coming here on a regular basis...If you're looking to try greek food for a date then go for it! read more

We went to Gyro World for dinner with a group of 3. The place is medium size and there were few people in the restaurant. We ordered a chicken souvlaki dinner ($20) and two sandwiches ($10 each)- lamb gyro and sausage. The sandwiches were really fresh, meat was tender, juicy and flavorful. However, some issues with the order, the lamb gyro sandwich did not have any lettuce and the sausage sandwich did not have tzatziki sauce. The souvlakia chicken dinner was dry and the potato was dull. Please do not order this. The waitress was very forgetful because she forgot to bring us tzatziki sauce for the souvlakia dinner and didn't check on us to refill water. The gyro sandwiches have lots of meat in them so you won't leave hungry. The fries are the steak fries type but it doesn't come with the sandwiches so you'll have to order them separately. read more

It's usually manufactured in Chicago, a spindle of smooth looking cylindrical ground beef-and-lamb. The Greek-style versions use Pork, and the Shawarma-style Middle Eastern versions (as well as Turkish Doner) use chunky grizzly meat that is sliced (and is also lovely), however, Chicago Gyro meat is shiny and smooth and distinctive. The most common Gyro in the US is the Chicago Gyro. What you think of as a Gyro is probably this one. And Gyro World's version is the tastiest I think I've ever had. Why is this Gyro the best? The meat is delicious, spiced, flavourful, and plentiful. The pita is fluffy, hot, tasty, and perfect. The salad is fresh. The sauce is garlicky and yogurty and exactly what you want it to be. Everything combines into the perfect Gyro. Actually it's fairly greasy, but I love greasy. It's "the perfect greasy Gyro" perhaps. I was absolutely full when I walked in here from eating too much food. And yet I devoured every bite of this enormous Gyro. Well done, GW. Thank you so much Ben. It's not just the food. I think the decor is *so* much fun. I have a lot more pix of it which I will upload later. Their bathrooms downstairs are nice too. While the wait time is often extensive and the price isn't exactly dirt cheap, the service was fantastic. The young guy and young girl serving me were making conversation, they were sweet, happy, excited and enthusiastic, even though the place was really busy. I appreciated it. It made me feel like home while I was waiting for my Gyro. One thing, people. Be really careful crossing Northern out front. People severely speed down this quadruple-lane-in-either-direction main road. They come fast and they change lanes randomly, and if you're crossing the street to get to Gyro World, it can be very treacherous. It's not worth getting hurt, or worse, for a Gyro. Okay, it probably is worth it, but still. Waiting one extra minute won't kill you. Running across this street, though, just might. Gyro World makes a good gyro, now that being said I might be a little jaded since my favorite Greek joints are located in Astoria. One thing they do well here are burgers. My son ordered a cheeseburger and it was cooked well, juicy and delicious. I was able to steal a bite before he ate the whole thing. We ordered the calamari since it was highly recommended by a buddy of mine, that being said the calamari was quite delicious, not over battered with nice size pieces of calamari, complete with tentacles accompanied by a sweet and savory marinara dipping sauce. Now this is Gyro World and I wanted it to rock my world, but I was swayed, not rocked by the Greek (Pork) Gyro. I felt the pork was under seasoned and didn't quite have the flavor profile I was expecting. I also really craved some burnt and charred pork ends, the gyro tasted more like a pull pork gyro, but overall it was good. We also ordered the Chicken and pork Souvlaki. The Chicken was moist and seasoned nicely and the cubed pork was not too chewy. The tzatziki sauce and pita were delicious and not too bready The waitress who served us was nice, but seemed as though she didn't want to be there. The place is clean and I wouldn't mind coming back to try the other many dishes they have to offer. I haven't really travelled and sampled all that Gyro world has to offer. There was only one waitress who was allowed to take the orders but multiple waiters who served the water and cleaned up the table so I had to wait for the one waitress in order to place my order. I got a combo platter of gyro and bifteki with fries and a side salad. The meat was tender and flavorful. It went really well when eaten with the pita bread and the sauce that comes with it. If youre into Greek food, this is a good place to go to, their food is good and portions are generous. We didnt know what to get, so we decided to get a platter, to see which meats we like so the next time we go back, we can just order that. When the platter arrived we were in disbelief that it was a platter for 2, it seemed like a platter for an army. The thing about platters though, flavors get all missed up and at times, you do not know which is which. Some were of course better than others, the chicken and pork were a tad dry but the tahini sauce makes up for that. Their tahini sauce is really good, so when you doggie bag, do not forget to ask for some. I've been hearing good things about Gyro World. We checked it out today and was so excited to know if the experience will beat my good experience at next door neighbor Fontana's. We came at the best time, 6:30 pm , lesser crowd was visible . As we were looking at their menu- "The Gyro World Platter" for two makes sense for me and the hubby. With the price of $26, with variety of meat, fries, salad and pita with the famous tzatziki sauce, we guessed that's good enough. The platter has selections of beef and lamb gyro ( wohoo - was the reason i came here!), beef and chicken bifteki , chicken and pork souvlaki, and pork loukaniko. I googled each definition for me to enjoy what i was going to eat. Holy Molly, we were surprised when our order arrived------- their " for two size platter" could feed 4 people. Who did they based into their standard serving size? :) If my son was just with us, this will make his day! Everything was delicious as expected, lightly seasoned and grilled to my liking. My most favorite was their gyro- thinly sliced tasteful tender meat. Too bad that the white sauce included in the entree wasn't enough for the whole platter by our consumption rate. We brought home the left-overs of at least at third of the serving. The wait staff was accommodating and suggestive. Worth coming here. read more
