Came here for a traditional Japanese curry lunch. They had all the traditional curry dishes that I miss from my time in Japan. My wife was tempted by their Gyu Don bowl and the Beef Sukiyaki Nabe. However, she decided on the Gyu Curry and I chose the King Curry. Since the King Curry serves two we shared both dishes. Such a great decision. Sauce was perfect. Meat was juicy and crispy. Even the rice was "super awesome" as per my wife's review. Highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you are visiting Toronto or if you live here. We would definitely come on a regular basis if we did live in Toronto.

If you are a katsu lover, this is a must go. The meat is fried to perfection and there are many sauces and ways to eat it, owners are Japanese and cooking is authentic

This Japanese curry rice is decent, but the meat is a bit tough and not really to my taste. 呢間日本咖喱飯不過不失,但啲肉都係偏柴,唔係太啱我口味。

this is my second time at gyugyuya - the first time was awhile back. I did notice that the portions now aren't as generous as before, but it still did fill me up. the curry definitely isn't as flavourful as I would have liked, but it wasn't bad. I got the gyu cheese curry. I'd say I liked this one more than the ton katsu curry. their katsu tasted too dry for my liking. definitely can't miss this restaurant with their yellow painted interior.

A homey comfort food We went here after Jays game. I have not tried this place for a while, so we decided to give this place a visit. The portion was smaller than what I remembered. The food is kinda average and homey (I can cook something similar at home). the taste is somewhat basic. I would recommend if you have never tried Japanese style curry and want to give it a try.

The restaurant itself is spacious for the amount of people that it can fit. The ambiance is really nice because it fits the idea of eating fried Japanese food; the music is always nice and the tables are always clean. Service is also very fast and the waitresses always check up on how you're doing, and will always be ready to refill your water! I had the gyu curry with chicken kaarage on the side; this is always my favorite dish to get. It comes super quickly, the amount of food is alot for one person which is awesome. The kaarage is always the right amount of crispy and juicy, though I do hope that the gyu curry had more beef on it but you also have the boiled egg and the shredded cabbage as well. I love eating lunch here all the time, I am definitely excited to try another dish!

Craving Japanese Curry so we went to Gyugyuya by Dundas! We got the Gyu Curry, their signature dish. It's beef slices with sliced egg and curry at the bottom Their Chicken Katsu was pretty decent as well! Easy & quick service if you're ever in the area Usually a takeout spot, but there's plenty of tables around. Food: 8/10 Service: 9/10 Ambiance: 7/10

Food was delicious and service was quick and nice, but if you are craving generic Japanese curry then this place may not be it as their curry is more unique. I didn't really taste too much curry flavor and it seemed more like a beef-broth based brown sauce. If you can overlook the difference, the food honestly is delicious and hits some junk food cravings. I was super estatic about their aji furai (fried horse mackerel) and their korokke. My sisters and I definitely enjoyed this place.

Curry is ideal for this time of the year! Gyugyuya opened years ago as one of GTA's first Japanese curry houses. To this day, it's yellow theme is synonymous with the food. They've got solid Gyu Don too with beef slices simmered in sweet soy sauce on rice. Chicken Katsu Curry has a perfectly deep-fried crispy chicken on rice and a thick layer of rich Japanese curry sauce. A perfectly hearty lunch meal, tempered with shredded cabbage & egg. What's there not to like! Look for the huge cow head logo & the bright yellow exterior, you can't miss it!

I'm a big fan of Japanese food, especially Japanese curry! I ordered a few plates here, including the pork cutlet with curry and rice with beef. Honestly, it was very comforting food, and I enjoyed it a lot. The prices were very reasonable, and I'll definitely be coming back!

Absolute go to spot for curry and katsu in Toronto. Surprisingly the kaarage was absolutely amazing. Fast service and no frills restaurant means that this is a staple weeknight meal.

Came here with a friend after going festival hopping and we were looking for something that would be filling since we were starving. We both decided to order the gyu cheese curry because we figured the mixture of meat, rice, and cheese would do the trick. The curry sauce, beef, and rice were good, but the cheese ruined the dish for me. It just tasted burnt to me, and I couldn't mask the taste of it in the curry. I would be willing to come back here for the other dishes, but definitely not this one again. Staff here were nice, polite, and friendly, and service was quick.

Here's my recommendation: For best value, get the Gyu Gyu King Curry. For a curry meal, I recommend the Aji Hurai Curry or Gyu Curry. For a non-curry option, the Oyako Don offers a good amount of chicken. I visited Gyugyuya with friends for lunch. The restaurant's bright yellow exterior and bold bull logo make it hard to miss, but the interior didn't feel very inviting. Their menu focuses on rice dishes with curry. Here's what we tried: Gyu Gyu King Curry: A massive dish featuring pork, chicken, and shrimp cutlets. Perfect for sampling everything the restaurant has to offer in one go. Gyu Curry: My favorite. Thinly sliced beef served over rice with curry sauce. Simple but delicious, with just the right amount of flavor. Aji Hurai: Surprisingly good! The deep-fried horse mackerel fillet was light and fluffy--a refreshing change from the heavier fried meats. Oyako Don: A safe, no-frills option. Boiled chicken, egg, and a sweet-salty sauce served over rice. Chicken Karaage: Deep-fried chicken served with a lemon wedge and mayo. The texture was soft and crunchy, but the pieces came out a bit too dark for my liking. Nabeyaki Curry: A slight letdown. It had too much rice and not enough toppings for my taste. The service was attentive, and the restaurant was clean, including the restroom downstairs. While the curry tasted authentic, it was a bit on the mild side. It's a decent spot for an affordable Japanese meal. I'd return if I'm in the area and craving some Japanese comfort food.

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!

The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done.
