Needed something to cool off from this summer heat. Haagen Dazs is one of my favorites, love their midnight cookies and cream! I also love their coffee but unfortunately they were out, so decided to try the pistachio ( nutty, sweet and salty; okay in my opinion). Stood in line for about 15mins for ice cream lol but understandable. The lady that helped us looked pretty burnt out but was soft spoken and nice. Went to the Makai Market food court at Ala Moana shopping center on a busy Saturday afternoon. Hadn't been there in years! My BFF & I had lunch first & then dessert. I first thought the regular size had 2 scoops but when she told me 3 scoops, I was pleasantly surprised. My banana split was so ONO! It tasted as good as it looked. Was only going to eat 1/2 then bring the rest home but my BFF & I were talking story & before I knew it, it was all gone. It was the best banana split I've had in a long time. I selected vanilla, mint chocolate chip, & coffee for ice cream. Banana was firm but sweet, strawberries tasted fresh. It was topped with a huge serving of whipped cream & a cherry. Yummo! I admit that I have a sweet tooth and frozen desserts often fit into that profile...hey, I'm talking about the FLAVOR profile not my girth! Anyway, after returning from a nice long walk, we stopped into this Häagen-Daz for a large serving of their ice cream. Now, mind you, Häagen-Daz isn't really from Denmark as its name suggests. It is an American made product whose parent company is General Mills under its Nestlé Ice Cream Division. We ordered a large serving of Java Chip, Dulce de Leche and Rocky Road ice creams. Service was friendly and quick. We were a bit disappointed with the portion size to price as we mentally compared the 3 scoops to what we normally get at its Vermont-based competitor. We also noticed that the ice cream melted quickly soon after being scooped. I will give credit to Häagen-Daz as they hold the distinction of being one of the few commercial ice cream brands that doesn't use any stabilizers which probably accounts for the faster melt. The flavors were natural tasting and weren't overly sweet. Each scoop was dense, creamy and rich because of its super-premium or high butterfat brand. Yesterday, Sunday evening at 6:11pm female staff member by the name of Liezel was incredibly rude, disrespectful and belligerent towards us. I am a serious ice cream officiando. I'm the kinda girl who can eat ice cream in the middle of a blizzard. I scream for ice cream and it is something we always had in our home. This place lures you in with these beautifully posed pictures of ice cream decadence. That decadence is the more expensive desserts and not the simple offerings. I purchased a cookie n cream sundae and was excited for the creamy texture with the random crunch. There was nothing special about the ice cream let alone the sundae. The ice cream was flat and didn't even try and dance a jig in my mouth. I could have gone to Baskin Robbins for a typical sundae and got bigger scoops for a cheaper price. Don't get this review twisted. My 5 star review is not for the company, but a particular worker. My daughter and have visited this location multiple times. One employee stands out because she is usually the only employee on the line. This last visit again, she was alone. She had a steady stream of at least 10 people and let me tell you, she handled the crowd like a champ. She didn't let anything or anyone shake her. If I had my own company, I would want them all to be just like her. Steady, works well under the pressure, polite, kind, hardworking. She is amazing. Häagen-Dazs itself, the manager here should be ashamed of themselves. Scheduling only one person during the busiest time of the day. We were here at 3 pm. I surely hope that you take care of her.
