Super late review - I'm sad. I really wanted to love this place but I just couldn't. I don't want to be that person when this place has an overall rating of 4.5 but this is just my honest opinion. I got the blue dream and yes it was very ascetically pleasing, but it was just too icy. Before coming to this place i read a couple of reviews that also said the same thing and i didn't understand what that meant, but now I do. There are a lot of flavorless, just regular, small shards of ice in the bowl. On top of that, the moment I received my bowl, it was already borderline melted. So that got me thinking, how can it be melted and icy at the same time? The only explanation that I can think of is just ice additive/fillers. It's not pure cold acai or whatever is in the bowl you choose, but there's a mixture of ice in it too. Yes I understand, it's Waikiki, everything is more expensive, but the added topping prices on top of the already expensive bowl prices just don't make sense. You want a beautiful looking bowl with a lot of different toppings, yet some toppings can go up to 1 dollar PER topping. I don't know if I've just been spoiled by a couple places in SoCal, but at those places they have unlimited toppings and those bowls are the best that there is. The strawberry smoothie bowl was not blended, so there were frozen chunks everywhere, and the Mac nut bullet coffee also had chunks of nuts throughout the drink. One of my go-to coffee spots while I was in Waikiki. Located right off the main drag, this sort of hidden coffee counter has a great mix of breakfast foods like bagel sandos, avo toast, and pastries. Their coffee drinks are all of the classics, with me gravitating towards the iced americano, the both days I was here. A very smooth drink, that with one pump of sugar free vanilla syrup took the edge off the bitter finish of espresso. Each day I was here, the wait time was very short. Even when they were busy, the most I waited was two to three minutes. There's just small counter to sit at, but most people use it to wait for their food and/or coffee. So close to my hotel a lovely walk over several mornings. Absolutely LOVED the monkey bread, they don't skimp on toppings. Peanut butter, banana, honey, cacao nibs... all on a well toasted sourdough. Very yummy and satisfying. However I did not like the monkey bowl or the monkey shake at all... (I'm pretty positive I'm the minority) but the base that was used seemed to be the same and I just simply didn't like it. Not sure what's going on with this place lately, but it's definitely gone downhill. I'm honestly surprised it's still so popular given all the recent negative reviews--unfortunately, I had a very similar experience. We placed an online order that was supposed to be ready in 20 minutes. I showed up 30 minutes later, only to end up waiting almost an hour because they couldn't find the order. At that point, I probably would've been better off just ordering in person. The staff seemed overwhelmed and poorly trained. When I asked about the status of my order, one of the workers said they'd check--then just disappeared and never came back with any update. Communication and customer service were basically nonexistent. When we finally got our bowls, they were overpriced, undersized, and underwhelming. The açaí was melted and had a weird texture--definitely not the smooth consistency you'd expect. On top of that, the bowls were missing toppings we paid for. Overall, this was a really disappointing experience. Poor service, long wait, and a product that didn't live up to the hype or the price. I won't be returning. read more

Hidden somewhat behind a hotel, it may be hard to spot this acai bowl place, but we had heard good things about it social media, so we were on a hunt to try out this spot as our first acai bowl destination in our trip. Decided to start off with a classic acai bowl. This location does provide the option to get a small size, which is nice if you just want it as a snack/aren't too hungry. The acai bowl is quite simple: not much fresh fruit and mainly granola as a topping. The acai base was alright as well in my bowl, but in my friend's bowl, the acai was literally.... frozen solid to the point where you couldn't even eat it because it was so hard and the plastic spoon wasn't strong enough. I really enjoyed our breakfast at Sunrise Shack! This location is really small and is located in a hotel lobby. I came pretty early in the morning to pick up stuff and then brought it back to our hotel room to enjoy but I can easily see this place filling it up quickly. It's a really cute, sunny interior with bright yellow walls and just feeling like sunshine. We got an acai bowl, salmon toast, and two vanilla lattes. The acai bowl was good! Not too icy, a smooth texture and flavor. I also loved the salmon toast which was paired on perfect sourdough toast with soft salmon, capers, and dills. Love this spot. Anytime I'm visiting the island sunrise shack becomes my every day stop at least once, sometimes twice. I love their coffee, and I love that it is organic. I can trust their ingredients. I also love getting a papaya bowl with a blended base. So perfect and refreshing! I am a little bummed that the rice cakes came off with the menu because those were so good! My only piece of feedback would be to have a gluten-free option for the toasts. The rice cakes were great alternative for me, but I'm limited now in options since the toast is not gluten-free. I also love their stickers. I'm not a huge collector, but the sunrise shack stickers make me smile. I love the brightness they bring, and I even picked some up to gift coworkers who smiled and how "cute" and "fun" the stickers are. I see a ton of tourist at a bunch of the chain coffee spots and I highly recommend you skip all of those walk a little bit further and get to sunrise shack if you're in Waikiki. Over the years I have had every single one of their fruit smoothie bowls and always enjoy them. They're pricey but fun. I went out on a limb this week and got their Pacific Tuna sandwich with side salad and it was the worst. Firstly, not fresh. The lettuce on the sandwich was black-soggy, tuna was sooooo dry, really creating an overall dry tasteless sandwich. I can't believe how expensive this terrible sandwich was. They make it to-order and it took almost 20 min when no other customers were there. Now onto the side salad: it was the same mixed greens that had gone bad (black soggy) and with no dressing at all. We visited this gorgeous little shack in North Shore! Beware of the hungry chickens. They are great entrainment but make sure you keep any eye on your food, they will take a bite! The fruit is fresh and the bowl is naturally sweet. A small is actually a large proportion and it filled me up, no need to get anything bigger unless you're looking to share! My sister and mom ordered sandwiches which came with chips, both said they were great. My sister also ordered the blue smoothie and it was delicious. The prices are pricey, and it's a little off putting but for a one-time visit it's okay. The employees were so kind and so fun to talk to! We briefly bonded over sky-diving and got so into our conversation we almost forgot to finish our order. There is lots of seating and there are even board games such as a huge connect-4 play set, tic-tac-toe and I think jenga. They call your name at a window where you go to grab your food through clear doors. This helps keep the food safe from the very hungry and fearless chickens that hang around the area. There is parking available right next to the little shack along with a surf shop and other spots. At the register they have merchandise available for purchase such as stickers and shirts. The stickers are so cute and unique, I love them! As a sticker collector they perfectly capture Hawaii's vibe and they're a great alternative to the repetitive/tacky stickers at the ABC stores. read more
