They locked the door 20 minutes before closing. I just wanted to check to see if they have leggings for kids, no worries if they don't, but just wanted to pop in and see if they had what I was looking for. I had my 3 year old with me, so shopping is pretty quick. Just got looked at by the 1-2 employees there and they gestured to go around. They wanted me to go to the back of the building which would take me about 5-10 mins to get there with a toddler, not worth it. I've been coming to this mall more often since I moved here and have been slowly checking out the restaurants and stores. I can say that this H&M actually carries better options than some of the other locations I've been to. One thing I've noticed is that the staff can be a bit more on top of you while you're shopping, which can feel uncomfortable at times. I understand loss prevention is part of the job, but it can feel excessive. That said, I promise I'm actually shopping Ultimately, the employees at the registers and in the fitting rooms are pretty friendly and helpful. There are a few areas where the clothing selection isn't the strongest, but overall they have really good choices and the store is very clean. All of these stores in this area have a real bad undertone of prejudice. For some reason the return process is always so intense as if, it isn't an option for the consumer. Extreme screening of the pieces as if I can't afford a $10 shirt & god forbid change my mind about it. This is the 2nd incident where I returned to this location. I've shopping here for years and have spent probably thousands of dollars. When I just tried to return defective products, I was told I couldn't because they'd been worn and washed. My daughter was looking all over the place for a particular outfit and I couldn't find it anywhere in the store. I approached an associate who directed me to someone who could better help me. Although it was not out on the sales floor, she remembered seeing it in the back. I believe her name was Ashley. At the same time she was training someone. I needed a different size and she was more than happy to help me. Now I need to mention it was really busy in the store. The first person I approached actually checked us out and she asked if the person she referred us to was helpful. It was a great experience overall even while it was busy. Located in the middle of Otay Ranch town center (mall)... Lots of parking in the back, with entrance to the store.. Customer service here is standard. Although I've experienced some that were friendly and helpful.. Others seemed a bit snotty though.. This store is a bit smaller than the H&M in plaza and fashion. This location doesn't have a children's section (I wish it did!)... The store is pretty packed with merchandise... And they have some good sales pretty frequently. Be on the look out for 50% sale items. They do that a couple times a year... Great deals! The clothing themselves is of decent quality. Obviously not high end or high quality, they're okay though, and you'll get some wear into them. read more

I really like H&M. It's appropriate that it's a Swedish company, since it's the IKEA of clothing -- generally cute things, affordable, made by calloused Bangladeshi hands. I used to go to H&M in Stockholm when I was broke and living with my crazy Swedish girlfriend. She would buy up half the store on credit and I would get their colorful underwear, which I have yet to see in the States. And I miss H&M more than I miss going out with her. ... So now I want to take my current non-crazy, non-Swedish girlfriend here, and I may very well do that, but I am very happy to discover that the company is building a store in Fashion Valley which is supposed to open later this year. I live in central SD, so it seems a little silly to spend $7 on gas to buy a couple $9 shirts. Trivia: H&M stands for "Hennes & Mauritz" and it used to sell hunting equipment. So, trendy people, it doesn't sound so cute any more, does it?!! read more

This is by far the most organized H&M in San Diego. I don't think they have the largest selection but I would rather an organized location! I walked in on my lunch break and was able to purchase a top and dress in enough time to get back to work. H&M always has special deals and sales. You would wonder how they have survived by these low prices. I shop here not only for their sales but they also have the style of clothes that I want to wear. There's a lot to choose from casual wear to formal wear. The staff here are very helpful. They're there to answer your questions. The employees here are never happy, and always rude. They don't care to greet you, they are more focused on putting all clothes on the return rack in its place. I only ever have time to shop on the weekends and at night they've already turned the music off an hour before close and they make sure to give you the stink eye to guilt trip you coming in an HOUR before they close. Then they wonder why you come back a different day to return your items because you feel like you can't try anything on, or they tell you that the "fitting rooms closed" (true story). After our lunch on Thursday afternoon, with nothing to do and a pocket full of twenties, Apryl and I decided to make the 30 minute trip all the way down to the ass crack corner of San Diego. It's located in the middle of nowhere, also known as Otay Ranch. Parking was easy. Once inside the mall, finding H&M was a little bit more difficult. Not sure if it's because it is so new, but it lacks the large signage screaming to the county that it has finally arrived. Inside, the store is very well lit and organized nicely. The store is pretty much woman's clothing with a smaller section dedicated to me and my metro-sexual peers. I understand that H&M is from Sweden, so it's acceptable to refer to it as the IKEA of clothing. Really though, it is. Mass produced in third world countries around the world, it's stylish, colorful and cheap. Our bedroom is furnished in IKEA thingamabobs, so why should we stop there? I bought a very slim, almost personally tailored gray cargo shirt, a white blazer, a white sleeveless hoodie and a black vest for myself and several colorful tank tops, a floral jumper, a pair of sexy green booty shorts and a scarf for my misses. Our total for all was just shy of $200! Nice. I have never purchased so many items of clothing for so little money. We strolled out to our car in the lot, a huge bag of clothes in tow, smiles on our faces. After our 30 minute drive back to La Jolla there was quite the fashion show followed promptly by a post shop-a-thon nap. read more

The men's clothes is nice as well. This one doesn't have a kids section but the one in Plaza Bonita does. If you happen to go at the right time you can get some stuff on hella clearance. $5. $10. Holy shit, this place is huuuuuge with a very large selection of items at such a low-low cost, it makes me wonder how much money they are paying the Somalian five-year-old workers whom are obviously being ripped off... But I'M not! Wow. Um... The clothes here are definitely super cute but I felt about four years too old and one hip too wide to be buying anything. I grabbed Larges and nothing fit. That's lame... well, they had these linen pants which are awesome and comfortable but they purposefully cinch at the bottom and look like genie pants. Ew. Would I go back to H&M? If I'm ever in Eastlake again, and if Shimmer doesn't satisfy my shopping tastes... but probably not once I start making enough money to shop at Anthropologie. They have a boat load of sunglasses to choose from, but they're all kind of meh - you can get a better pair at Susie's Deals in La Mesa. On a positive not, I found the Q-test dress that this girl was wearing a few weeks ago and made me want it... I thought "Aw... she has such a great fashion sense and always looks so cute." I'm not going to comment on the clothes because I'm sure you all know about H&M by now. Instead I'm going to base this review solely on this location. The store itself is very spacious which makes for a good shopping experience. You won't be bumping into anyone or squeezing in between the racks. I personally think this store is a hit or miss when it comes to inventory and I think that Plaza Bonita gets better stuff. I also hate how there's no lingerie section in this location because I honestly love H&M bras. I also wish they had some of the sport items too like H&M stores up north in OC. The employees are a bit snobbish at times but if you can get passed that and focus on how big (and relatively empty) this store is compared to the Fashion Valley and Plaza Bonita then you will have a pleasant experience shopping here. read more

It was a hot sweltering day, in New York, when I stepped into my first H&M (short for Hennes & Mauritz of Sweden). The floor was filled and the walls were lined with the coolest clothing ever. Not only were the clothes fashionable, well made and stylish, they were relatively inexpensive. Catering to both men and women, the stores that I've gone to were almost always guaranteed to be filled with customers. Whenever I've gone to NY to do some shopping at the European-based store, I've always thought to myself, "Dammit! When is California ever gonna get one?" Two years later, H&M opened it's doors for the first time, in California. Unfortunately, they opened their stores in both LA and San Francisco. Apparently, San Diego wasn't cool enough to get one. A big complaint of mine - San Diego was always was the last in line to get the coolest, trendiest stores. But, at last, I can stop my complaining....at least, about H&M. My prayers were finally answered. Today was the first day that H&M opened at the Otay Ranch Town Center, in Chula Vista. Located on the south side of the mall, it sits in the building next to Macys, right next to LensCrafters. As expected, my sister and I already heard that there was a super long line, before the store opened. And though we went there an hour before closing, there was still a freakin ton of people. The line to the dressing room was uber long, as well. I don't ever recollect seeing such a long wait. Thirty people in line? To try on clothes? WTH? As expected for a grand opening, I wasn't surprise to find that I couldn't find many of the things I wanted, in my size. But, crazy as it was, I got caught up in the moment. With the few cute outfits that I could score, I decided to stand in the fitting room line, with all the other crazy shoppers. I couldn't resist grabbing a few cute tops at $12 a pop and a pair of moss green capris at $20. Most clothing items are in the $15 range. Great deals for trendy clothes. Overall, trendy store, awesome great quality clothing and great price makes this one of my top shopping spots. read more

I came here to buy a full suit & shoes for my son and ended up spending $180. You'd think that kind of purchase would earn a customer some decent service but not here. The cashier Brittany was extremely rude making us wait until she put a bunch of returns on a hanger while we stood at the register. When I politely mentioned we were in a rush, she laughed and went on to put the clothes on slower. Brittany, not only are you not at all friendly, you're also not cute enough to have a bad attitude so it's honestly a mystery why you work at a store where you need basic people skills & competence. I don't plan on returning to this store but Brittany will still get my prayers. Let us discuss the cluster that is this store... Usually when I've been here the staff is exceptionally rude. My sister and I went shopping there and she wanted to try on some clothes, it was pretty close to closing time, but it wasn't CLOSING TIME. So she walks to the dressing room and someone had already blocked it off! The store was still open for another 15 minutes! Is this quality customer service? No! Most of the time the staff seems like they aren't happy having to be there, and I get that most people don't like their jobs. Just please don't take it out on your customers. I ventured down to San Diego County's first H&M location today after being shut out on Thursday when it opened (foolish me tried to be one of the first 200 to win a gift card, only to learn that I was #732 in line) and it was everything I hoped it would be. First, to everyone who moans and complains about how far the South Bay is from everything else in San Diego, hush. I happen to love the Otay Ranch mall because they have some of the best stores (Anthropologie - hello!) and it's never crowded, so it's the perfect place to put an H&M. The store itself is huge and has a great accessories section. I made friends with one of the staff and she was very nice and accomodating, as were the rest of the employees despite the state of madness in the store. If you're unfamiliar with H&M, come here for fashion-forward pieces, good basic tees and the HANDBAGS. Oh, the handbags. I've been rocking the same $21 H&M bag for the last year and the compliments continue to pour in. read more

One of my biggest fears is that of seeing a teeny bopper wearing the same shirt as I am. That being said, I try to avoid popular chains like H&M and the like. It also doesn't help that my 16yr old brother gets most his wardrobe from this store. Starting a debt diet has put my brand snobby ways in check. After being away from the malls for 2 months I was down to buy anything. I just NEEDED something new. After scoring a $20 skirt at Anthropologie (PTL!) I was still hungry for that high. With not much more to spend I gave this store a try. Within 10 minutes I had 6 items in my arms to try on. Not the best quality but the prices reflect. I had to size up on everything and I couldn't get past the lack of quality in most of the items I tried. But I did find a fierce solid blouse and walked away content for the day and hopefully for the pay period ;) Just gotta add that I agree with the reviewers that mention their crappy customer service. Chick at the fitting room automatically assumed that the bundle of clothes in my arms were over the limit of 7 before counting it. Awesome. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the customer service at this mall is stellar. I walked in here at 4pm yesterday with the intention of purchasing a few new black tops for work (my shift started at 4:30 mind you). I was not finding what I needed and so I decided to ask a sales associate to help me out. Sweet and friendly Joseph was a little lost at first himself due to their having reorganized the store recently, but nevertheless quickly found me a few tops to try on in various sizes. He escorted me to the dressing room and returned to check on me within a few minutes, giving me his honest opinion on the fit of each style. He proactively brought me a few extra sizes so we could compare and contrast. After making my decisions he escorted me to the register to pay, and then back to the fitting room so I could wear one of my shirts out the door. I left the store at 4:21pm. Very awesome. read more

Reasonable prices for stylish clothes. If you're a young professional looking for affordable prices and stylish garments, you should definitely check out H&M. The customer service is alright. The staff don't go out of their way to greet you or ask if you need help but if you're like me, I don't like to be bothered shopping anyway. If you're in the area, stop by and see what H&M has to offer. If you live up north and drive south to H&M, don't complain about how far it is. You knew about the distance from the jump. I usually shop at this H&M more than most locations since it's one of the closest to me and it has their Divided line. Every time I come in this store I cannot leave empty-handed. Most of my wardrobe consists of H&M clothing. The clothes are fairly priced and make you feel like a million bucks when you wear them, or at least me. I also enjoy of the sales and other deals they have when you subscribe to the H&M emails. I usually never have a problem shopping here except when there isn't some piece of clothing in my size. read more

Omg such a bad experience! I went in on June 13 @ 7:30 and i got a jacket from the sale section but when they scanned the tag it gave them regular price and even do it had a red sticker with a sale price, they said NO and that it was a brand new release, the woman barely saw the jacket. I couldn't verify what she told me because the app was down plus I wanted to register a previous purchase for my rewards and another employee said "NO we don't do that here" so negative and with a bad attitude at the end i didn't take the jacket and they did register my purchase because i had proof that the app says they can do it. They made feel so bad like if they were doing me a favor. Oh and btw the jacket wasn't a new release I did verify that later on the app. Store is big and clean but don't expect to be helped if you have a question or problem. read more

Maybe the cashier was having a Bad day but she was extremely rude. When I walked up she groaned and said "fine sure I'll help you" I was just doing a straight exchange because I had grabbed the wrong size an hour earlier and hadn't realized till I got home. She told me to swipe my card to be charged a penny. I asked why and she said "I don't know" and just stared at me. I asked her if she could find out why since it was just a size exchange in the same store and she scoffed, took a penny from the counter and tossed it in the register. Clothing prices vary here. I have gotten a few jackets and shirts here at reasonable prices but you have to look pretty hard. This store is pretty organized and everything is fairly easy to find. The styles of clothes are stuff you could wear to the club or parties. I have also found some laid back wear you could wear daily to work (hoodies and sweaters). read more

This place.....such a disappointment. First of all, the store is very small for an H&M and the layout is just awful. I hate how its just very narrow. Then, theres the guy's section. What the hell? It's soooo small. It's like a 1/4 of what the guys section at other H&Ms are. I'm sure I'd be happier if I was a girl. But even so, it is very crowded. Yea, I know it just opened, but the store is so cramped that it makes it even worse. I've been to many H&Ms in the past including the huge ones (the NYC,SF, Chicago, and London ones). The majority of the clothes seem to cater to tragic-looking hipsters who wear neon-colored rags and the other half is for white blazer uber-metrosexuals. I more enjoy H&M's classic Euro-chic look and there are always only a few grabs. I did overhear an employee telling someone that their selection was 'more casual' than the others in San Diego. The employees are really friendly and the store is clean and welcoming. Had a good conversation with a few of them. Just wish the store had a more balanced selection. The location is spot on. The store is big and has many different clothing styles. I enjoy looking at the clearance section, though it is not that big at this location it doesn't hurt to look. The racks aren't messy, so you won't have to use your upper body strength to move the hangers to a certain side. Whenever there is a big sale throughout the whole store it is every person for themselves. That is when all the clothes are on the ground and the clothes on the racks are misplaced. Two thirds of the store is women's clothing and the rest is men's clothing. The fitting rooms are clean and there are two registers at either side if the store. read more

Went to this location yesterday at about 8pm. I walked around the store browsing for about 25 minutes. Tried on several items. Not one time was I asked if I needed help nor was I even greeted or spoken to at all the entire time I was in the store. I walked by an employee with items I was undecided about buying. He said nothing. So I kindly put my items down and walked out. Will never go back. Walked in to another store and was greeted right away. Okay, reviewing this makes me sad because H & M is my FAVORITE store. First off, it's TOO FAR AWAY. I couldn't even believe how long it took to get there! Secondly, the guy section is like the size of a shoebox and only has vertically striped shirts (for all you downtown lame-o's) and polo shirts. The girls section is...not that great. I MUCH prefer the Beverly Center one or the one in Irvine. This new H & M reminds me of the one in Las Vegas at the Town Center.
