for the life of me, I hope this rating will change in the future. and, in all likelihood, it will. visited san diego's first H&M yesterday on a whim. why they chose to put the first one in northern mexico - er, chula vista - is still beyond me. a half-tank of gas later, we got to the otay ranch town center; though far from most of san diego proper, it's easy enough to get to. being a guy, I understand that the majority of H&M's product line is geared toward female customers. but come on, does the men's section have to be purposefully placed in the VERY back corner of the store, hidden like some lost city of el dorado for fashion-forward males? also, compared to the H&Ms in san francico, san jose, milpitas, and irvine, the men's section was tiny. miniscule. a veritable liechtenstein to the rest of europe. keeping in mind that the store had opened less than a week prior, the lack of inventory was understandable, but wow, there were maybe seven or eight pairs of make jeans out. workers there were friendly and helpful, and were doing their best to deal with the first-week madness, so credit to them. three stars, but only for now. I'm sure things will get better once the crowds die down and inventory is replenished. regardless, I'm just glad we have one in san diego now. read more

I went to the one in the Plaza Bonita Mall, I was shocked by the prices after walking in for the first time. Definitely cheap prizes for the quality of clothes they sale, the only problem I had with the place was they were selling all fall wear. I know it's that time of the season, BUT we live in San Diego. I come here a lot because it's close to home. The selection they have is great, they're always up to date but the stuff is not arranged properly. Many of the clothes are spaced out awkwardly. Customer service is horrible, they don't say hi or acknowledge you whatsoever. BOOO - I stood in line for an hour and a half on opening day. I thought the first H&M in San Diego would be in the likes of the ones in New York (two story, awesome selections, cheap prices). Little did i know that after my hour and a half wait in the Disneyland type line, that the store "GYPPED" me out of a great selection. The store is probably great for women, they entire store is pretty much women clothing and accessories, leaving one wall, in the back, left for men's clothes. Damn it i expected more. pros... well if you are into this style of clothing then you are going to be happy. that is the case with my wife. she really likes the clothes here, i describe it as the ikea of clothing. lots of stuff for women and even men, they are pretty complete, shirts, pants, vests, dresses, hats, belts, and even bags. i think if you can put it on your body they make something for you. cons... well as for me, i don't fit in these clothes. i am the proverbial fat ass. my big fat belly just gets in the way of a good fit. as for this particular store, it is just like the rest of the mall, way too small. i think i called the whole mall like a bonsai mall, i prefer a bit bigger store. otherwise nice. read more

I have died and gone to hipster heaven. This H&M blew my socks off. Its massive. Like effing huge compared to the Fashion valley clusterfuck of a store. I think its a requirment for the dressing room attendant to hate their life as well as you, the customer. I have never encountered a friendly H&M dressing room attendant, but who cares! There were about 30 stalls and only about 4 were full! And I could take in more than 6 items! Let me start at the beginning. I got to talking to a coworker who lives in Otay Ranch about H&M and my love for their clothes and prices but my loathing for the fashion valley store. She said I had to try her store, so I made the trek out to Otay and had only minor trouble finding the store. (its right near Macy's). I walked in and almost wet my pants. Its huge! and there were like 5 people in the store. I was able to peruse at my leasure and when I got to the accessories and dressing room I was about to turn in, I looked over and saw a whole nother store in the back! Seriously, an entire nother store with all the work type clothes as well as MORE accessories. I about died. If they close this store (like I heard a lot of them in that mall are since they dont get the clientele) I will seriously cry. And the lady who rang me up was sooo friendly! Regular shopper, majority of the time I like their products in the mens section, there was a shirt that they sold during summer but I was late to purchase it but the manager Balthazar tried if he could find one for my size closeby in the area and he tried for 20 minutes. of all the H&M locations in sd, i think this one is my favorite. typically, i like shopping at places like pac sun, but H&M provides that "more than just a t-shirt & jeans" look that i like to pull off every once in awhile. i give this location 4 stars because i feel like they have the biggest selection (& section, btw) and i never have any problems finding something i want (not need) to buy. :) i especially like H&M because they don't have designer emblems plastered all over them like AE, A&F, Hollister and the like. if i wear anything that has designer emblems/logos it'll be hurley, famous, rvca, or volcom... but that's just me. read more

The only miss for me which is why I took down a star is because I brought my dog with me and everyother store let me bring him in (it's a dog mall otay town center) but when I walked into H&M I had to CARRY him while I was inside! I like this location better than the one in plaza bonita. I feel like the clothes are spread out nicely not all bunched up like in plaza. The only down side is they don't have a kids section. This location is nice because it's never busy and it's way cleaner then plaza Bonita. The only thing that sucks is that the store is smaller so it does get crowded in the isles of the clothes. I feel like plaza has more to choose from and more clothes. read more

I like this H&M because it never gets crowded and they have a divided line. some of my quarrels with this place is that 1) they don't have a clear way of organizing the basic clothing (plain tees and tanks) from the rest of the clothing 2) there is no sense of warmth at this location, it's like a giant hole sucked up the energy or something. read more

Bought a couple of things on a Thursday not realizing that they were on sale online went back the next day to try and price match and the employee said that they couldn't price match on previous purchases that it was policy which I understand since I work in retail.i asked if I could return and re buy since I had just purchased the day before, I had the clothes with me tags still attached to it and he said that that's still qualifies as an adjustment I told him I would like to speak to manager and he said that he could call his manager but his response would be the same. I was just really frustrated and I understand that there are policy's but I didn't buy the item a month ago I bought it the day before and it was brand new. Technically I could return it and re buy the items (they can't deny a return when customer is with in policy) or buy the items again with price match and return at different location, but why put your customer through all that if you could just take care of the customer right there and then. I think employees need more common sense on understanding situations like this and learn how to assess a situation and be more flexible or maybe h&m needs to review the price match policy. There are many retailers that offer a window in which you can come back and price match. read more

Been standing in line behind 2 people for 40 minutes now. An employee came up and took the two last people in line to another register. I would think they would take the next customers in line. Clothes are great. Prices are good. All other employees were on their phones talking. Service was terrible. The pink hair girl was the only good employee in the store. Worst customer service. The employees are always talking to themselves and ignore you. There were three people standing on line at check out. We had to literally wait until they finished their convo. Also, I just called because my toddler dropped her hat there. The person that answered the phone. Right away told me, nothing had been turned in. She clearly did not want to check the lost and found. Being what I call a "temporary San Diegan," I had mixed feelings when I found out H & M was coming to SoCal. I like being able to wear clothes and not see someone else wearing the same thing -- or at least rarely see someone wearing the same item. Best of all, I was used to packing only half a suitcase on frequent trips to NYC so I could return home with some new clothes from H & M or Century 21...and then H & M opened in San Francisco while I was still living there. Still didn't phase me. But then H & M opened in LA, Orange County, and now here, and my beloved "Ikea of clothes" has become like Old Navy, and I am not into looking like everyone else. I decided to check out Otay Ranch H & M, and I felt like I could've been at The Gap at UTC or something. I felt gross and dirty. Everyone there (workers and shoppers) was like 12, the clothes were decent, but definitely different stock from other regional stores. I am now relegated to shopping online or at boutiques. I still love H & M with all my heart, and will buy a few items here and there when I feel the need to add to my closet. But I am not a happy girl at all about it moving to the suburbs of San Diego. And now another one is opening up in Bonita? Sheesh. Maybe I should jump onto Uniqlo? read more

I have never had such a bad shopping experience in my entire life!!! The clothes at H&M are fine, but the service I got here at this store in the Otay Ranch Mall made my head spin! I cannot believe that any store with this terrible level of customer service can stay in business. I was stunned and annoyed by the how overly rude the sales people where the night I was shopping. It was an ordinary Tuesday night, there was no huge sale or overcrowding that might make the sales people stressed out. No, it seemed to me that they are immature girls who wanted to go home so they started the closing down process at 8:15 even though they close at 9pm. They stuck a clothes rack in front of the fitting room to close it! No trying in clothes. They turned off the music at 8:20 pm to warn us that they were closing! I'm a conscientious shopper so I was already keeping close tabs on the time. I never stay past closing in any store. The sales people never smiled and I can't tell you how many times I had to move so I wouldn't get run over by them as they were on a mission to putting clothes back. One girl never looked at anyone or smiled, but had loads of clothes in her arms and you had better get out of her way or she'd run you over. No kidding! Look, I know H&M is no Saks Fifth Avenue... I get it. But it is one of the classier malls in South Bay. If I wanted this kind of service I would shop at the swap meet. Store manager, please hire appropriately and train your staff to deliver better customer service. Your sales could go thru the roof! read more

Like H&m and have been satisfied with them in the past but I am very annoyed with my last order. They sent me an email to let me know my item had shipped about 9days ago. It never had a link to track the shipment like previous items I've ordered. When it hadn't arrived after a week I emailed H&m but received no reply. I tried their online contact form but again no reply. I decided to call customer service to contact them in regards to the shipment and tracking only to find out their number is out of order!!! I can't understand how such a big companies main toll free customer service line is out of order! I still haven't heard back from anyone. Failed to mention that I also returned another online order before replacing it in another size (the one I have not received yet) but they have not refunded me for the returned merchandise either. So now I have been billed twice for an item I have not received and have no way of contacting H&M online to find out what's going on. Very disappointed. If I don't hear back in the next few days I'll have to call my CC company to try n get a refund thru them! Will update if I hear back! read more

This particular location is by far the worst h&m I've visited. Almost all of their clothes have a serious flaw be it a snag in their sweaters or buttless pants (maybe my fault for having a huge butt). That's not even my issue, though. The staff is atrocious. And that's me being generous.. If you need to try something on, you shouldn't even bother waiting for a fitting room because the attendant will just stare at you from across the store and laugh. Yes that's right. If you need to actually buy something, hopefully you aren't in a hurry (and hopefully you know Spanish) because they will talk for 30+ minutes to the customer they're with in Spanish before they even realize you're there. And if you ask for the manager so you can complain about these things, they tell you point blank that the manager is unavailable, or my favorite, the 16 year old who tried to tell me she was the manager when I already knew the manager! this store is awesome I love shopping there but my wife went there last week and said that she received poor customer service from a employee, my wife said that she was rude and insted of offering more help she left in a rude way and besides her face was like if she was annoyed but after that my wife said that there was a very helpful chubby curly haird girl that she was smiling all the time her knowledge of the stor was poor but she apologized for her lack of knowledge and for her coworker and explained that they were new and she went sprinting to ask her coworkers with more experience for some ideas and advice to help my wife even though my wife didn't buy anything but she was grateful for that nice girl that made her have another perspective of that store read more
