I was pleasantly surprised with this H & M, located near the Nieman Marcus. It is not as tragic as the Satan's Row store, which does not have any men's nor kid's section. Though the selection here is not as good as SF (men's), it is also not as insanely crowded as SF. The kid's section is rather large and has quite a good selection to choose from. I love H&M, it has always been one of the very few stores I actually shop at that isn't from online. But this H&M store in particular gets 1 star for location (it's super close to my house), 1 star for selection (most of the time I'm able to find a size 2), and 1 star for the love I have for H&M. Customer service here SUCKS & it's very cluttered. I hate their "new" setup too.. Having only 3 registers in the front & never putting to use the registers in the back of the store.. Regardless of a long line or not. Ridiculous! To make matters worse, the cashiers here take their sweet time. And not once have I ever been greeted with a simple "hello" when I walk in OR even a "have a nice day" after making my purchase. It's my favorite store! Affordable, stylish, and has great variety. Only downfall is that everything they have is out on the floor so if you want a size of something, they won't have it because whatever is out, is out. I really like how this has guys, girls, and kids but it's such a far drive and the one on Santana Row isn't so great. I've always loved H&M. Their stuff is moderately priced and the sales are amazing! Their men's clothing, even regularly priced, are a great value. The San Francisco location is my favorite. This one bugs the hell out of me. It's a pretty good size, but the cashier counter is in an awkward spot. Right in front of it is a clothing rack thingy so if the lines get too long, people end up standing in the middle of the walkway, congesting the front of the store. Not only that, the store itself gets very crowded. Navigating through the store becomes difficult and you end up bumping into people or getting frustrated because you can't get to where you want to go quickly enough. Aside from crowded-ness, some of the employees are lame. Can you not try to stuff a wool peacoat into a small bag? Stop being so stingy with the bags!!! They also forget to take the security tags off the clothes! But it's not all bad. The lead/manager was really efficient in giving us a price adjustment because one of the cashiers forgot to give us the advertised discounts. She took her time explaining to us how she was doing it and making sure that we understood. read more

I buy my work clothes here. I have been buying my work cloth at h&m for a while the qoulity is pretty good. When I first came in to h&m I thought that the qoulity wouldn't be any good because they have such cheap prices. After wearing their clothes for a while I can say that the qoulity is ok which was surprsing. They also have some good qoulity socks and underwear. read more

Update 4/7/08: Subtracting one star (from 4 stars to 3) because the line in this store is RIDICULOUS. If you go in any time slightly near peak, the line for the fitting rooms is long and they let people try things on without getting back in line if they have more than the limit. The line for buying things is FAR worse and don't even bother trying to return something unless you go at 10am on a Tuesday. What a pain in the rear. Good prices for a college student, like myself. Most of the time I go in, I always find an item of clothing or two that I buy. Bad to go with cousins because they just say, "yeah go get it" even though I have no money to buy these items of clothing. I LOVE H&M CLOTHES. I come to H&M a lot and MOST of my clothes are from here. I would have to say this is my favorite location because of the DIVIDED clothes. And @Santana Row they don't have it. I like how it's simple and cute the clothes are. Casual or dressy for men and women. Cute stuff for kids. Nice and cheap accessories. Reasonable prices for good quality, Better than F21. Can't go wrong with that. THOUGH I wish the location was bigger, sometimes it gets really crowded on the weekends, and lines get pretty long. Every single time I come to this store there's always a long line even with 3 associates working the register. The prices are good. I mean... it's H&M. The layout of the store feels very cluttered. The displays are not very nice and clothes are not organized like other stores. I waited about 20 minutes to return something I bought about a month ago. They carry interesting stuff with good selections- women, men, and kids! Where else you going to find cute hats for little girls for under $10? My niece left the store with 3 more hats! The only thing that kept this place to be a 4 or 5 stars --- It is customer service!!! I saw a cute jacket that I wanted to get. The only one left in my size was on the display mannequin in the back of the store. I asked one of the workers if I can try it on. The guy responded 'let me check'. Then he went around the store, got to be 15min, looking and putting things back. I was like 'hum.... did he not hear my question??? I want to be polite so just stand around the mannequin. Then instead of checking, he went to talk to another worker about his break schedule. I was thinking 'OMG, if you don't want to help just say so.' So I left the mannequin, and went to check at the cashier. Apparently, they don't care to make a sale. They said ' oh we can't take it off, but you can put a hold on it. This is my fav H&M location, they've got clothes for every age group! :) I always never leave here without buying! There never is a long a line for me to try on clothes, this H&M always fully stocked here on all the sizes, and if they run out of sizes they don't mind checking other stores for you. The other thing I really like is that they've got a lingerie & sleepwear selection, also stockings and tights (unlike the Santana Row location). H&M's dress shirt sizing is great too since it's European, and great fit for an Asian like me with tiny shoulders :) I own almost 3 or 4 coats from this location and I often run into sales which I love and purchased one of my fav summer dresses for just $10!!! I'd recommend visiting this location during week nights and it's heaven! (I try to avoid weekends because waiting in line is like waiting in traffic... going 5 mph drives me NUTS!) read more

This place is hands down my favorite place to shop. Star 1.) Friendly customer service. Oh my god, people that actually like where they work, check. Star 2.) This store is pretty spacious with lots of clothes to choose from (but not too unnecessarily big). Star 3.) The prices for the quality are epic! This is definitely the most important star. I mean these clothes like a lot of other clothes are made in a sweatshop, so why do I have to pay astronomical prices for it? H and M gets it. Star 4.) The clearance section is well-maintained. Most stores neglect their clearance sections and urge you to buy their unmarked clothing, which in turn makes me walk out, if the price isn't right. Shopability is very crucial and this store has it. This location doesn't carry a large volume of clothing compared to SF. They do have great clothes, cute selections, and great prices. I find a few tops and accessories here that I buy on a few occcassions. Best time to come here is during the weekdays. Weekends, you'll have to wait awhile to use the dressing room. WOW! This H&M is huge! I like how they have their clothes categorized in different sections of the store - there's the "fitness" section, "going-out" section, "casual" section, "professional" section, and of course the men and kids section. They have a few different checkouts so you're not always stuck in this long ass line. The fitting room staff is very quick and friendly. Yay to H&M! read more

They have some cute stuff here, and you'll get the occasional helpful employee. But don't bother coming in an hour before closing, they already started closing half the store. Came in at 9:40pm when they closed at 10pm, walk by the fitting room and an employee loudly yells "This side of the store is closed!", i'm like don't you guys close at 10? and the response is just to get everyone out. Very rude of him to speak the way he did. He yelled at another lady trying to go to the fitting room as well. Came back another time, this time at 8pm, guess what.. they already started closing half the store, who does that?? you're not supposed to close yet! I also went in the fitting room once, forgot my bag of clothes I just purchased and came back in maybe 5-10 minutes and asked about it. Employee at fitting room said they didnt see anything or received anything, cashier out front said the same thing. H&M is a place you will get more of your dollar or even find something similar or better for a lower price. However, this is one of the most insane stores with high number of customer volume. You will have to go literally in the morning because through out the day, you must have patience to go through those jam racks of clothing to find something of your interest. Majority of my female friends love coming to this store, because there are some items that have remarkable discounted, and from a guy's perspective still pretty hot. However, I do find some deals there, but only off seasons items. There's always a moment where I really find something that I like, but they never have my size or they ran out of the color, which prefer. I'm pretty sure, I'm not the only guy that's a size medium. This store is pretty messy, even when days are slow. Back in June, I was looking for a pair of high tide shorts for men, and I found a pair that I like, surprisingly, but when I tried it on in the fitting room. The room was so dirty, there were dust and dirt at all the corners in the room, the mirror seem it hasn't been cleaned, and just piles and piles of clothing everywhere. I'm not sure if I probably came on a bad day, but I didn't even want to put my clothes on the ground it was so dirty. I would agree with some of the customer service comments that some Yelpers mention. For example, when I was trying on the clothing in fitting room, the guy, who was running it, was saying if I didn't like the item I was trying on, to put it back where I found it and close the door when I leave. I do recall, I'm NOT here to do your job. It wasn't a big deal, but still. I work in retail myself, and do all the "run backs,'' and still manage to fitting room too, at the same time, beat that! The line is always long here, but I wouldn't blame the workers too much for it, because when I do buy something there, regardless the number of items I have, they're pretty quick. Yes, they do have their side conservations. Majority, of time its people, who wait the very last time when they're in line to make their decision whether or not to buy whatever it is, they're buying. Trust me, it happens pretty much anywhere. My own customer do the same thing, and I witness it as a customer, for other stores. In conclusion, it a "OK" store, but I rather go to Oakridge Mall and shop there instead. read more

I came yesterday for a puffer jacket and came back today for it. I tried looking in different areas since they had puffer jackets in different sections and wanted to make sure it wasn't missed placed before asking an employee. At first I did and the employee that worked at fitting she said whatever they had was on the floor already and I was bummed out but she did informed me to download the h&m app and it would let me know whether they have it in stock in others stores so I still had hope that it might be here. I finally scanned the barcode and the item was still in their store. The app has an option to check their store if the item maybe be in stock including the sizes. I finally asked another person which I'm assuming is the manager named Stephanie and she gladly helped us out and even checked on the floor again and went in the back. She was super friendly and helpful in really getting the item I wanted. I don't know why this store has a 3 star when the workers and manager really do try their best. It's the holidays and I really hope customers can understand that these workers do work hard to get what you need in store. Just patiences and be FRIENDLY. I got really excited when there was H&M opening up in the South Bay but had feared it because then it would be widespread. After all, you don't want to show up in the same place with the same item of clothing as another. Shopping at H&M is great because you can find different items of clothing that you can put together and make your style work. The H&M shopping experience I feel like has translated poorly from SF to the South Bay. Whenever I shopped at H&M in SF, I felt the mood was a bit more alive and the selection was more fun. I felt like the Great Mall is a poor location for the store and it will probably end up closing. They really should have just bought a bigger space in Santana Row with only one location and a better selection to boot. That's what they should have done. I think that Santana Row is more central and to be in a place like that is surrounded by more disposable income. I would love to go to London and go to an H&M there, I'm sure it's quite more fabulous. read more

Used to love H&M, everytime I went to the Great Mall, it was one of the first stores I would go to and check out, but either there clothes got too small and tight or I got too big and fat. LOL! Anyways, I still come once in a while to check out what they have new. They always have the best windbreakers because they don't have a big brand name on them. Great store for cheap fashionable clothing. Perfect staple for day-2-day wear. The place is a madhouse and the lines are long but given the business they generate the place is surprisingly in order. H&M (like Zara) turn their inventory like 12-15 times a year - meaning that you will see more 'cutting edge' styles quicker than at most retailers. Good for tall/thin people as well! read more

Two words: Kids' department. Some of the little one's cutest outfits have come from this H&M. So I will drive all the way here rather than BART to SF just to shop for the little one. Today, I bought three dresses. For me! Usually I don't find much for myself especially since 80% of my high school students love to shop at this chain. Nevertheless, I've been a fan since back in the day when you could only find H&M in New York or in Europe. I have a wedding to attend tomorrow plus it is back to school/work season so I treated myself. Our cashier was rearranging the ropes used for keeping the line orderly which caused my child to stumble. He apologized profusely and was otherwise very pleasant. Much more so than the off-duty employee who told her supervisor, "you look like a stylish pilgrim" which made all the cashiers get distracted into laughing and lapsing into some of the personal convos some of the other reviewers have criticized. I went to return a sports bra that I purchased online, but the cashier guy quickly turned me away saying that all underwear are final sale and it should stated online(which I didn't see it at all). I went home and called customer service and was told that bra might be final sale but sports bra are not. I went to the Santana row store and got my refund right away, the lady didn't even ask anything. Very poor service and not coming back to this store since the store is a mess anyway. read more

Very similar layout to the H&M in Westfield Mall in downtown SF. This store is very organized. You can easily manuever in the lanes without any problems. Clothes are cute and affordable. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything I liked this round. Now I don't need to travel as far to shop at H&M, but I still like the two stories H&M in SF. read more

It can get pretty busy here (especially on weekends) but overall, h&m has alot of different styles for men and women. For the most part, alot of the things are priced very reasonably. Service can be kinda whack. from my experiences, if you can't find it out there don't even bother asking because the sales associates won't be that helpful. The Him & Mom collection of the Great Mall gets mobbed by anyone and everyone looking to fresh up their bar-hopping fits for downtown San Jose. Leathers, bomber jackets and hoodies are either getting snatched up or left to slump hangerless on the store floor. Personally, I find the best things towards the back section for all the new merchandise in the front ends up getting tattered and dusty thanks to swell employee keep-up'ins. It's nice that we don't have to drive down to SF to shop at H &M anymore... this store has a variety of Men/Women/Kids line. However, the quality and style are not as comparable as Zara. It's probably in between BR and Forever 21 in terms of chic-ness and quality. Love this H&M for lots of reasons. My main reason is that they have a variety of clothing for all occasions. They also have your men's and children's section including an intimates section, which they do not have at Santana Row. Well, the H&Ms in SF are still clutch, the one at Santana Row sucks, this one is nice and right in the middle of the spectrum. I was expecting crap like the SJ one (seriously, how can one in Santana Row have nothing worth buying?), but I was pleasantly surprised. First of all, size-wise, it's bigger than the SJ location and has men's clothes (makes no difference to me personally, but I think it's a plus).
