This was our first time here and it was good. We chose this spot because my friend was bringing his dog so there was a patio that we could sit on. It was a very casual vibe. Perfect for dinner to catch up with friends and have a couple drinks. The service was great. Everything came out rather quickly. We ordered buffalo cauliflower bites, ahi poke nachos, jalapeño burgers, and the western birder. The poke nachos and cauliflower bites were really good. My friend had the jalapeño burger and he thought it was really spicy but still good. I had the western burger and it wasn't bad but there was nothing fresh on the burger to break up the oiliness of the burger. If it had some lettuce and red onions on it, I don't think I would have any complaints. I would go back again and probably try something else on the menu. read more

What a nice little gem of a place. We stopped on our way home for lunch. Got three appetizers and had leftovers. The queso dip and chips was amazing. Flavorful and generous portion. She decorated and applied the perfect touch to the back room, perfect for this very special event. We live in the area and go to all the beach areas. We've been to a lot of San Clemente restaurants, Capo, Oceanside, Laguna, Dana, and I was served one of the worst spoiled plates of food I've ever seen. We're not out of towners or ignorant either. I'm going to do 2 stars because our server realized it was bad. She is professional. This was Loco Moco. So they put cold slices of roast beef on the grill for 20 seconds. Then covered it with eggs and cold gravy. And the bottomless mimosa? $14 1 serve. I originally did 2 stars because I was sitting in the restaurant. I didn't want anything bad to happen to our server. She was as I noted, professional and decent. I've been thinking about this and everyone who knows me knows I don't want to be hard on servers, hardworking restaurant staff, and others. Anybody can see most of my reviews are 4 and 5 stars and if I don't care that much for a meal, I'll usually not leave a review. The manager of Cottons came over after our server had agreed to comp my meal and my $14 1-time "bottomless" (not) mimosa. There are 2 things people need to know about this place: 1) the food wasn't just not fresh, some dish ingredients were obviously spoiled and I tasted mold. Everybody who eats loco moco knows it's supposed to be a hamburger patty, not cold slices of mystery meat with a couple of hasty grill marks - maybe even "painted on" grill marks. 2) The manager argued with me. She went back to the kitchen twice and came back and argued with me. She made statements like "well, this is our tri-tip. It can be tough (good to know, thanks a lot) and ...." (I forget how she explained it was cooked even after I informed her it was cold, most of the dish was ice cold, and it tasted like MOLD). I even told her, "Ma'am, I'm not in the restaurant industry but my daughter is. I know that these foods weren't served properly and I don't think they were fresh. It was inedible." HOW MUCH MORE CLEAR CAN SOMEBODY BE? Since when does a customer state a meal is "inedible" and "tastes like mold" get argued with? When we went in, the restaurant was not crowded and it filled up after we went in for the lunch hour. I think our server was the only person working. I noticed the bench seats were worn and cracked. Cottons is charging high-end prices not just for low-end (inedible) food, they're not maintaining their restaurant to the standards of competitors and they have staff who would seriously argue with a customer about this type of plate going out of the kitchen. I flat out told this lady that I knew the kitchen staff would lie to her and I added, "Why don't you ask them to eat that plate." She said she would! As I said, I'm not in the restaurant industry nor am I the "complain to the manager" person. The absolute minimum was done - they comped my inedible meal and the mimosa. I'm serious this would have been a great episode for Kitchen Nightmares and I was picturing Chef Gordon Ramsay because I spit that meat out just like he spits out similar food. I can just imagine what that kitchen looks like back there. We paid for my husband's edible, passable regular breakfast and gave our server a $5 tip. I'm sure it is not fun to work somewhere where they're cutting corners this much and doing this type of work in the kitchen. read more

I'm so glad I finally got to check this place out! At the time, they were only doing mostly outdoor dining with minimal indoor seating. You ordered inside and they brought your drinks and food out to you. Their cocktails are pretty good. My favorite was the cotton blossom. I had seen marketing in the restaurant that this particular drink won some food and beverage award, so I felt compelled to try it. I'm so glad I did. It was so refreshing, tasty, and beautiful. Bad ambiance because a baby shower group was in a "private" area but the door wasn't closed and they were spilling out into the main area being extremely noisy, disturbing other guests, and breaking glasses multiple times. How absolutely embarrassing for this restaurant! I've eaten here several times since they have opened. During these unlawful shut downs we have tried to frequent as many local business as possible to help keep them stay open. Of the dozen or so times I have been here, I have found a gross lack of management, a lack of consistency in food quality/ portions, and not to mention weak/slow customer and even rude service. But we know places can have an off day, so we continued to show our support. After all its usually the shift manager that lacks experience and or integrity. On Sunday, my husband and I choose to have dinner there. We walked up without a mask they told us to take a seat. We were not told to stay outside, or to put on a mask. We were not told that we had to wear one when we order. We took the closet open table about 5 feet away from the register. We were close to the bar where people were sitting shoulder to shoulder, drinking, laughing and ordering ALL while barefaced. Not to mention both large windows and the front door were wide open. It was really nice to see people enjoying the local life. My husband purposely went in line when there was no one there, he waited about 10 minutes to do so. Shortly there after, another gentleman came up behind him (barefaced) to place a drink order. Since his order was only for a drink, my husband let him go ahead of him. Shortly after, a very intoxicated man walked up behind my husband, less then a foot away from him and began to yell at him stating he was rude for not wearing a mask. Even though my husband tried to get distance, the man kept crowding him saying her was rude to be there without his face covered. At that point it was clear that this was not welcoming or professional environment and the policies were confusing, hypocritical and inconsistent. It was clear that this place lacked good leadership. BTW, Some staff wore the mask, some wore a dirty mask, some sorta wore them and some even walked behind the bar bare faced. When leaving, the intoxicated man began to mask shame and insult me. The fact the Bartender (who seated us and saw everything ), DID NOTHING to mitigate the argument or take controll over the situation. He allowed a customer to verbally assault another customer(s) making it very clear that this is NOT a place that I will ever spend another dime in. Shame on all of you! A restaurant that does not stop discrimination and ignores violence is a very dangerous environment that I would not want any family to witness. I hope you remove the bad actors in this business and you pull it together before you end up loosing the business or being sued. It ALL comes down to management!!! Because after all, its about the leaders not the employees who are responsible for training , leading and enforcing policy! How embarrassing for all of you! read more

I can count on 1 hand how many negative yelp's I've given. This is one of them. This weekend my husband and I went to eat at your restaurant, as we've done so for years. What we witnessed by several of your staff to one of your customers made us so mad and disappointed. A guy walked up to the bar to order a drink. A really rude customer looked at the guy and said "it's really rude that you are not wearing a mask". Mind you, no one sitting shoulder to shoulder at the bar was wearing a mask. None of the customers sitting at the tables eating were wearing a mask. The man that was mask shamed said a few words and looked away. His wife saw what that man did to her husband and went off on the man. There was a lot of yelling. The bartender looked at the woman and said "take it outside". While this was happening I saw another employee go to the back of the restaurant and clock out and take his mask off. He said goodbye to everyone and he was not wearing a mask. It's frustrating that your restaurant allows no masks while at the bar or tables but while standing in line to order, you have to wear a mask. It also makes no sense that you can have your food delivered to your table but you can't have the waitress come up to your table to take your order because that would be too dangerous. Until you stop with these games and start standing up to people who aren't living in fear, we will never eat at your restaurant ever again. You have no idea what trauma people who can't wear a mask might have gone through. These masks trigger so much PTSD. With 3.176 Million people living in Orange county and the daily new cov*d cases are around 50 or less, it's time to stop the spread of fear. ENOUGH! read more

Made reservations here because they let you reserve for brunch. Since my friend and I were going to a wedding later in the day, I wanted something on the lighter side for breakfast. The Waverunner parfait sounded good so I thought I would give that a try. The parfait was really good. The yogurt was sweet but not overly sweet and the berries added another sweet and sour element. The granola they use was good too and it did not contain peanuts so that was a plus. It was also the right amount of food that I wanted because it was not too small and it wasn't a full bowl of yogurt. My friend loved the sausage as well as the waffles. Overall I would come back and dine here again for any meal. The service was very nice and took my allergy seriously which is always appreciated.
